Cons: Toxic--students are clique-ish, teachers are condescending, and moms are snooty. I can't stress enough the frigidity of this place. They only encourage a career in ballet, not love of dance. If your child isn't serious about ballet, consider going elsewhere. They are very obvious with who their favorite students are. Every time you walk through their door, be prepared to get snubbed by teachers and/or parents. Cheap--tuition may be low, but they will nickel and dime you for every little thing. Those things may be optional, but you will stick out like a sore thumb and be made to feel like an outcast. Also, there are kids who run around acting like they live there, bringing in fast food and stinking up the place. (Contradicting right? How dare you snub people but bring in fast food?)

We always refer to the teachers as our kid's second, third, and fourth (and so on) mom! They absolutely look out for their best interest. The director is amazing. Her knowledge of ballet and her expertise is not something you'd expect to get here, and if so, definitely not at the prices she charges. It's so affordable and there are no costume purchases or crazy fees! You will not find anything like this elsewhere! She also loves and cares for her students so very much. This place is a rare diamond that Arlington is blessed to have. It truly is an honor to be a part of this dance family. She was livid that my daughter told us things that happened at practice, saying she could no longer trust my daughter, as she expects the girls to keep secrets from their parents. They also enroll way too many kids for the number of coaches. My daughter was seriously injured when she fell from the bars when the coach walked away while he should have been spotting her. There were too many kids for the number of coaches and they had knocked the mats out from under the bar, so her fall wasn't cushioned. No coach even called us; my daughter had to call to be picked up for X-rays. (The coach made her call from the coach's phone for proof they had contacted us, but she told my daughter she didn't actually want to talk to us.). And when we arrived to take her to the ER, the head coach did not even come speak to us about the injury. Empire will take your money. But they won't keep your child's well being at the forefront. They will expect her to keep secrets, and if she gets hurt at practice, they won't take care of her. So just be warned.

She has never shown any fear when it comes to being in or under the water. So after the summer ended, we decided it was important to enroll her in swim lessons--not only for her safety, but also to give her more structure and proper instruction. We started lessons in mid-January. At first, progress felt slow because some of the coaches seemed more focused on following their lesson checklist than allowing her to actually swim and build confidence. They often held onto her, and we felt like she was regressing a bit. Then we found Coach Ryan, and everything changed. He has been fantastic! Instead of constantly cradling her, he gives her clear instructions and allows her the opportunity to learn and swim on her own. It has been so much fun watching him work with her and seeing her confidence grow. Within about three weeks, he had taught her how to float on her back by herself! Now we're working on more consistent kicking and helping her confidently roll from her belly to her back. That's one thing I would recommend though is consistency of the coaches. They have high turn around and I feel like everytime we have to change coach she regressed. On the positive note. I also want to give a huge shoutout to Taylor. She is absolutely amazing! She is incredibly attentive, always willing to help with scheduling, and keeps everything running smoothly. Honestly, I don't know if the parents would be nearly as happy without her. Overall, this is a wonderful place for children to become comfortable in the water, learn essential water safety skills, and build confidence while having fun. We highly recommend it!
