Without fail, I am ticketed each and every time I try to use the Amon G. Carter location. This is in spite of "checking-in" in order to get a parking pass. What a mess!) The Ryan Family YMCA is smaller by comparison, but with a few extra amenities, such as an outdoor pool. The weight equipment also seems a lot newer than what I was accustomed to. Overall, I thought this particular YMCA was a good fit for the neighborhood it's located in; however, I may try to give the downtown location another chance. Who knows?!

The showers take 10m to warmup... the drains are clogged... a bunch of equipment is out of order and some is broken with no sign on them... seems like someone stole a bunch of the cable attachments and the owners just never replaced them... and it's fairly dirty compared to other YMCA I've been to. They are putting cheap soap in the EcoLab soap dispensers... Just a lot of corners being cut here and the owners aren't reinvesting into the quality and maintenance of their facility

I arrived a little late, about 15 min, and was expecting to get a word or two from the instructor about what we were doing. Nothing - just yelling a 4/4 count at the class of 8 people for some kind of waltz partner dancing. I didn't expect to do any partner work, so that was a bit off putting. Again, no one informed me that the class would include partner work. Not receiving a welcome or directions but just told to get a partner and then being yelled and counted at - again not knowing what we were doing - was very off putting. The instructor would demonstrate with another employee what looked like advanced waltz movements and expected us to get it immediately. The guys present weren't used to leading in dance so it felt like a jumbled mess. All the while the instructor was rudely yelling for us not to look at our feet or yelling her 4/4 count. She then puts the music on the last 10 min of class and plays two 6/8 songs - a totally different count from the 4/4 count she'd been yelling at us the whole time. I could tell the instructor didn't want to be there. She was rude and impatient. Also, in the same room right next to our group of 8 there is a one-on-one private lesson going on which was very distracting. For $30 a person, the lack of clarity, kindness, teaching decorum, and doing a completely different genre of dance was highly disappointing. I'd be justified in asking for a refund. It was not a good experience at all.

We learned a four step dance with a spin and dip, and Emma was a good instructor. I'd gladly do it again. Convenient location and top notch facility.

My daughter started when she…read morewas two and was very shy and attached to me (that's why I wanted to try dance out just to see how she would do with other kiddos and a teacher that wasn't mom). The first day of class she walked right in and didn't even miss me. I was shocked because she would not stay with anyone besides mom, dad or grandma. She had a blast, the teacher was very kind and welcoming. She has loved all of the teachers she has had throughout the years. They are very professional at dance academy of Mansfield, but also are kind and understanding to the girls as well as the parents. I like that they incorporate different muscle groups in their practices as they do core, balance and stretching as well as dancing. I have notice improvements in my daughters feet and core strength. She has always had flat feet and has had some trouble with balance/coordination and I have noticed since starting dance that has improved. Lastly the production they have at the end of the year is amazing. So cool to watch as a parent. I love that DAOM is not ashamed of their faith and to talk about the Lord and pray; and for that reason is why I drive from Waxahachie to come here. My daughter loves it. I also like that they have classes during the day so homeschool parents can take their kids as well.

This was our first year at the DAOM and will be our last. Our daughter was in the pre-k group…read more The staff was nice and she had a lot of fun while there. The instructor seemed in control of the classroom from what I saw on the two observation days. However, restrictive policies make this a bad choice for parents. Classes for that age group are an hour long and go from September until June. If you believe your four-year-old might become disinterested after nine months of dance, please consider this factor heavily. If your child misses more than five classes in that time, she will not be allowed to dance in the production. You will not be refunded the $180 in production fees. This year, the academy followed the MISD schedule. This means that for those of us that signed up for a Monday class, we were scheduled to receive 5 less classes than those signed up on other days of the week and there was no cost offset. With the multiple bad weather days, we were actually out of class 8 days and got one makeup class on exception (as the policy is that academy does not schedule any makeups and your child may not attend a different class). I suppose I bear some of the blame in this instance since I simply assumed there would be an opportunity for make-up classes and did not actually ask. I emailed the director regarding my dissatisfaction with this issue. We were told they would not follow that schedule next year, but no price offset was offered for this year. They also follow the MISD schedule for bad weather regardless of current conditions. For example, when MISD cancelled school at 6am due to possible ice then at 10am the roads were melted and completely clear, the evening class was still cancelled. Your production fees do not include tights for the costumes. They do not include alterations, those will come out of your pocket or the pocket of your stage mom. If your child has ripped tights or the wrong tights, she will not be allowed to dance in the production. If your child has too many absences, she will not be allowed to dance in the production. If your child will not be still long enough for you to put on red lipstick, mascara, eyeshadow, foundation, and blush, she will not be allowed to dance in the production. Yes, even your three year old. There are no exceptions to refund the production fees per the policy. My daughter doesn't know, nor would she care, about all the restrictive policies of this studio. She had the stamina to go 9 months with little complaint. She got to do worship dance and talk about God while doing tap. But, for me, there was just too much in the way of bad policy for me to enjoy taking her here.
