Background: About a year after Elliot had finished his excellent work on our front plantings in 2006, I'd asked him to do our back yard, but never heard back. I worried something had happened, and hoped he was okay, but found Alma Hecht (Second Nature Landscaping), who did a lovely job...although, sadly, she passed away some years later. Since then, we've done most of the gardening work ourselves. Update: Now we're seniors and can't do all of the gardening. In 2022, I learned that Elliot had opened a garden center next to Bay Natives. So in early 2023 he finally came back to give us an estimate on both front and back garden improvements. He spent plenty of time with us, especially in the back. About a month later, we got a $200 invoice for his time/consult re: plantings, irrigation, setting up work, etc., which we gladly paid. However, now it is May 6th, and have yet to receive any actual estimate. We would have totally understood if he'd just said, "Sorry, I can't take on your job, I'm too busy," up front. But instead we've been left hanging. Disappointed! Guess we'll move on to find someone else who wants to do the work. read more

We had Elliot come to give us an assessment to start a regular, ongoing landscaping/yard maintenance arrangement. We were quoted $300 for this initial visit - that would include Elliot's time, as well as $75 each for the hourly rate of two gardeners working with him, and a gameplan for ongoing service. Both my husband and I looked at our yard and saw no difference after the hour-long visit, and we received no follow up whatsoever, until around one month later a bill for $470 arrived. read more

Tried to get into contact with Elliot over the course of two months. Was interested in having a hot tub installed in our backyard in San Francisco. Sent a set of drawings with what we had hoped to receive a quote for. Called three times to follow up with a promise each time I would receive a call back. Each time I was also asked to re-send the email to him. After two months, I receive a text message saying he was looking into my project. That was the last thing I ever heard.... I understand people are busy and maybe this was not a project that they were interested in. It would have been easier to say they were unable to provide a quote, and I would have looked for other companies instead of waiting for a response. read more

I had a stump removal job and a small masonry project. Elliot came by, asked a few questions, gave me some options on the masonry, and a couple of days later a full crew showed up and finished in one day. Elliott "fixed" our sprinkler system as it was leaking into the neighbor's yard, where he had a big contract. But, he really didn't fix it. It leaked terribly and would not spray. I asked him to come back, and he did so only after several emails and some harsh words. Then he made up some story about an antiquated part and said he could not proceed. Further, Elliot turned off the water at the street and the valve got stuck, requiring me to make a call to the city. The next guy fixed it for $150. No problems. read more

We started with a 50 x 12 ft cold, scary, concrete slab yard and now have an inviting warm city garden. I can't believe it's the same space. We wanted a new look for our backyard garden removing grass and replacing with a patio. We got but beautiful, thoughtfully laid out new plantings. Elliott worked with us to make the most of what we had, salvaging or moving or trimming the best, removing the rest. The entire process from initial conversation, to drawings, to the potentially messy removal (we have access to garden only through a lower level master bedroom suite!) was professional, courteous, careful, and done on time in a very reasonable amount of time. Among the least expensive of the estimates we got but at $12k we expected much more. It's been several years since the install and all the plants are totally out of proportion. Huge, huge plants in the front of a pretty small garden and little plants in the rear. I suspect that we ended up with a lot of plants that Elliot happened to have sitting around in his warehouse. We are planning to hire another landscaper to come in and fix things up. read more

We called Elliott based on a referral from one of our neighbors he did work for. We made an appointment with Elliott, and he pulled a no show. No call, no nothing. We called him again to make a second appointment, and this time he said he would call us back to schedule the second appointment. Again, he did not call. We never heard from him again.
