Second time is a charm! We attempted to try this highly regarded pizza last week, got all the way here and they were sold out. The owner advised us to order online next time which is what we did today. They are closed Monday to rest and Tuesday to prep as everything is scratch made. We ordered a simple beef pepperoni pizza and the cost was $24. All of the toppings are beef as this is a halal restaurant. The crust is by far the freshest most neutral I've had; airy, crisp and almost clean tasting if that makes sense. The sauce was my favorite, it also tasted very fresh. If you consider yourself a pizza connoisseur I recommend you give it a try. read more

I really really like this pizza. I had to check it out because of Portnoy's review. I would give it a rookie score of a 10/10. Perfect crisp on the dough yet still chewy. A very light and approachable pizza, I could've easily dominated the whole thing if I didn't have to share it. Yet it still had the delicious, savory greasy cheese and pepperoni toppings to satisfy your primitive needs. It was nice to talk to the owner and her new Worker (that I think was her daughter). Tiny little space but we did eat inside on the ledge. But this is definitely a takeout spot. I have thought about this pizza every day for several days now. read more

Artisan Pizza Cafe is brand new to the short north! The cafe is cute with some outdoor seating if you want to eat your yummy pie right away or it's great for take out too! The owner is so nice & passionate about her pizza! Currently they only are taking orders in person, I recommend coming early and after you order, enjoying a nice walk in the short north or stopping for a drink nearby while you wait! Update: Decided that it was a pizza type day. I stopped in at Artisan Pizza Cafe. They are located at 91 E. 5th Ave. Jasmin was working today, she is the owner. I ordered a pepperoni/mushroom/hot honey pizza. She makes the dough herself, fresh for each day. While she was preparing my pizza, she said that she will soon be offering Gelato's. I knew she had bought the machine for it and recently had some people come in from Italy to teach her how to prepare it. Can't wait for that. Back to the pizza. It finally was done. I got home and it was TIME!!! The pizza had a nice crispy crust with dark leopard spots on it. The sauce was a really nice fresh tomato flavor. She uses a blend of cheeses on it. It had the perfect amount of flavorful pepperoni on it. She also sautéed the mushrooms at the beginning of each day. Everything is cooked perfectly and makes for a phenomenal tasting pie. It's an amazing experience. The pie and talking with Jasmin, it doesn't get any better. My first time dining here and likely my last. I have been searching for a great Napoli style pizza place in Columbus. Someone mentioned this new spot just around the corner for me so I knew I had to give it a try. They have a nice selection of coffee, pizza and milk tea. While the dining room is small with a couple of stools, there is always sidewalk dining. Unfortunately, this is where everything goes really sour. I called to order a pizza and I was told they don't take orders over the phone. She told me to come in and that it wouldn't take long at all to cook. Although, I found this odd, I popped in the car. I got to the counter to order and she said the dough would not be ready for another 20 minutes. Disappointed, I offered her some honest feedback that it would have been nice if she would have communicated that before I made the drive. But being excited to try the pizza, I'd wait. She offered me a coffee while I waited. I didn't accept the coffee because I wasn't wanting something for free. She then began to have like an emotional breakdown and apologize. I explained I wasn't upset and that I accept her apology. I explained it was just honest feedback because I'd like her to succeed. I just wanted her to understand my experience from a customers perspective and that I was excited to try her pizzas. But she continued to spiral and said she didn't want my business. I was shocked at her emotional overreaction. Nothing I said seemed to help. I kept reassuring her that my feedback was simply to help her because my experience so far had been really frustrating. I know it can be hard opening a new business. Based on this experience today and her overreaction, I couldn't see this business lasting very long in the location they are at. There isn't ample parking for people to wait for pizza. I left here without any pizza and with a horrible taste in my mouth. What's disappointing to me is, she could have graciously accepted the honest feedback and used it to get better, rather she chose to overreact and lash out at a customer, thus alienating a customer who had the potential of being her biggest fan. I was trying so hard to do business with her, yet she chose to escalate the negative experience and make matters worse. I've had the best pizzas in all of the biggest cities in America - NYC, Chicago, LA, Detroit. Columbus' pizza scene wasn't great, but there were some standouts like Paulie Gee's and Harvest Pizzeria. I have to say that this place changes all that. This is legitimately the best pizza you can buy in Columbus, and up there with the best pizzas in NYC. The crust is so crispy and flaky like an artisan pastry. The ingredients are super fresh and it shows in the taste of the pizza. Every ingredient tastes like what you expect from a homemade pizza using ingredients straight from your garden. The place is small, but kinda looks like a small coffee shop that actually makes pizza. Most people will probably get take-out due to the limited seating available. If you want high quality pizza in Columbus, this is the place. It's now the #1 pizza place in the city. read more

It exists as a one-woman operation currently, but every single thing on the menu outside of a few desserts are completely hand-made in house with no steps skipped in terms of preparation or ingredients. I ordered the cheese pizza and a slice of brownie cream cheese cake. Both were excellent but the pizza was just fantastic. Firm crust, great sauce balance and cheese, and it looks as good as it tastes. Only been open a month, so after talking with the owner, I think it's only going to get better. She's amazing in her own right, but I couldn't be more impressed. Saved four slices to take home (shown in photos) and they were even crispier and just as good as fresh out of the oven. Definitely a must try for anyone who wants the perfect balance of Neapolitan and NYC-style pizza. read more

I have no idea how this place is in business. They don't take online orders, they don't take phone orders, you have to pay for parking, their hours are different everywhere you look online, they aren't open (multiple times) during their business hours they have posted on google (which are the more restrictive hours I'm assuming are the correct ones). This business owner has been given advice on how to improve their business by reputable people (look at one bite reviews) and unfortunately Portnoy's concerns about their issues as a business were 100% correct. As a small business owner myself, it's not hard to fix these issues, but it is clear the business owner is not competent enough to do so. Take your business elsewhere! Didn't get to try the food or atmosphere because they aren't open and having paid for parking twice to try it and them being closed both times, will not be giving this business a penny. read more

Scammer! Somehow they charged my bank card $32 for a $14 pizza. Pizza and a drink was charged $24 at the register. (A $10 cup of tea?) Then I was looking at my bank statement later and I find I was charged $32. And their pizza wasn't very good. I got the feeling they won't be in business long. read more

MUST READ: Location isn't best because very small/parking. Nice lady owner & love her passionate American Dream story from the critics/news BUT it the story only goes so far & sadly it's mismanaged. I went 2 months ago & they sold out of pizza late afternoon when news came in, the news guys couldn't even sample the pizza, they were not even busy (HIRE WORKERS to help compensate business demand). I went last night. Deep dish was not available & for some reason, it was cheaper despite more crust. I checked online & pizza was a shocking $16 + $3 for every topping. I went to store she changed it to $20 + $3. When I showed her the online price on my phone, she wouldn't honor the price. I went between prime dinner time & not busy? I figured w/ overhead cost the actual pizza cost basis $8 NOT $23. I gave it a chance, and the pizza is not any better than Dominos $7.99 6 toppings deal or Little Caeser's $6 pizza. THE PIZZA 1-10: crust 8 (I liked the crispness but a few burnt spots), sauce 2 (barely any on pizza), peperoni 4 (I liked spice but not a lot on pizza). Overall, 4 out of 10. not as good as the media hype DEFINATLY NOT a $23 pizza! SUGGESTIONS: Have DEALS when not busy. At least make it reasonable price $10 is a fair price for 1 topping 14". If your busy you can increase your price maybe to $14. Have topping deals buy 2 toppings get 1 free or break in price the more toppings. If your deep dish isn't on menus use duct tape to X it out from menu. Honor your online price, until it's changed ONLINE is good management practice. Dock their pay of the person who is in charge of advertising online. I admire the owner's passion, GO to competitors and try their pizza before you price your pizza. She is the nicest person and is very open to feedback as a business owner (we've discussed everything from flavor choices to cups and pizza toppings).
