Turns out that was a bad choice. I knew all along that the new turf wouldn't match perfectly with the older turf, but that was the least of my concerns. The initial install screw spoke literally no English, so I couldn't communicate with them, and Google Translate wasn't ideal or very helpful. They did a poor job securing the turf, too. They had to send out a second guy to complete the job and correct the poor work of the previous crew. I also asked for an updated quote thereafter to remove the old turf and replace with new turf so it wasn't noticeable at all. I took pics and provided measurements. I was ignored despite multiple follow-ups with my initial estimator and eventually after calling their corporate office multiple times was told their supplier was out and would never have my turf again. Holy smokes these people work hard!!…read more I had a mess in the front yard, but the back was insane. Ficus trees that were huge and dense (couldn't walk under or see through) with one encroaching on the house. Palms that were sprouting little palms growing where they shouldn't, and weeds...omigosh, the weeds were just depressing in how quickly they sprouted up during one rain, and they were _everywhere_. Plus, in several places, the irrigation was broken. Just looking at this mess was stressful. Mr. Martinez showed how the dense growth of the ficus -- no sunlight, no air -- caused the leaves to be mossy and generally unhealthy. He made other helpful observations during the initial walk-through as well. In the end, his crew needed only two full days (one day plus two half-days) to clean it all up. ALL the weeds: gone...including the ones that tried to masquerade as trees. All the bushes: neatly trimmed. The big ficus trees: neatly cut back and airy (by an arborist). The palms cut back. (And the grossly-overgrown saguaro palms in front, removed.) Dead trees removed. Mulch and wood chips in front. Plus, being that Mr. Martinez is a general contractor, they got a painter to paint the shutters requested by the HOA some time ago. Just a stunning amount of work. Two days. And now the back is almost like a Zen garden (minus the sand and rake) in the feeling of calm and peace that it inspires. Not cheap. But holy smokes are they good.
