Artifacts is a locally owned, small business that specializes in mostly handmade gifts, jewelry and home decor items. I spoke with the owner, who told me that most of the merchandise originates in the U.S. or Canada. The staff is friendly and checked with me several times to see if I needed help. During my visit yesterday, the shop featured Christmas decor with lots of handmade glass ornaments. I fell in love with several of the turquoise inlaid cutting boards and handmade pottery. The prices are high, but inline either what you'd expect for hard-crafted art. I purchased a few wooden snowman ornaments for the kids. The shop is located in a historic building in Broad Ripple. Good luck finding street metered parking. My advice is to shop midweek, during off hours to find parking. read more

Found this gem while taking a walk in broad ripple! Haven't heard of it before, so was pleasantly surprised by the selection of items. Feels like a more elevated version of silver in the city, and I would recommend for a spot to find gifts for the women in your life (girl friends, moms, grandmothers). Once a week I take my baby daughter on a stroll through Broad Ripple. Sometimes we stop in Artifacts to pick up gifts for birthdays and other events. The staff are so sweet to my girl and helpful when I'm looking for something particular. This is a wonderful place to find unique jewelry. I've purchased classic looking pearl earrings as a gift and have my eye on a pair of hand painted wood earrings depicting birds (they are over $200 but I told hubs about them so maybe a bday present?). I've purchased a puzzle, glass flower vase and other small gifts. All excellent quality and at what I think are fair prices. Oddest thing I've bought are little Japanese paper cats filled with flower seeds. Expect the unexpected here. So fun! read more

While an awful lot of businesses have come and gone from Broad Ripple, Artifacts has been a steady presence over the years. Founded in 1977, the shop continues to be "in the family" as it is currently owned by the daughter of one of the co-founders. Artifacts features the work of American artists and craftspeople. Items include jewelry, artful objects, ceramics, wood, glass, home & body accessories, paper goods, gifts, and other stylish wares and wearable art from the handmade movement. Artifacts is fairly accessible. It's located in a relatively small building right off the avenue. Parking is along the street. Broad Ripple has become mostly metered these days, though a bit of creativity can also result in some free spots not too far away. There's actually an accessible meter in front of this building. This is an older building - the door can be a bit heavy, though I've typically found the employees here to be helpful. The front counter can easily see the door. Because Artifacts has been around so long, they tend to be popular and the crowd on my most recent visit was steady. In terms of interior, accessibility is fairly decent - going toward the back, the left side is a little tight but I was able to squeeze through. I could not get through the right side of the aisle toward the back. They also have a clearance section that is not accessible (the entryway is too narrow). One important note - Artifacts carries a lot of fragile items. As a wheelchair user, I found myself being ultra-careful at certain points to make sure I didn't brush a table. I didn't have any close calls, but let's just say that doing figure eights is not a good idea in here. Artifacts carries quite a few really cool items. I found myself particularly taken by home interior items. This is definitely not a discount shop, though this is Broad Ripple and one should expect Broad Ripple pricing. Employees were friendly and I always enjoy stopping here. On this visit, I didn't end up purchasing anything but I certainly have before. This isn't necessarily a shop I treat as a destination spot, but if I'm in the area I'll definitely stop by. It's right down from The Vanguard and across from 317 BBQ and Dad's Kitchen. Curb cuts in this area are a little hit-and-miss. Broad Ripple has a whole lot going on these days, but there are still signs it's an older village. Broken sidewalks in places and uneven curb cuts can make using a wheelchair a bit challenging, however, generally I find it pretty passable. While prices can definitely go high here, there really is a pretty wide price range and it's relatively easy to find small gifts for reasonable prices. I'm notoriously cheap, hey it's true, and I find the prices here pretty workable with everything from truly affordable to definitely premium. read more

Bought myself the prettiest sterling silver necklace here. I have sensitive skin and absolutely cannot wear costume or plated jewelry so I always ask about the materials used. It's a beautiful piece that I can wear everyday or for an evening out. The sales ladies were wonderful and answered my questions promptly, even advised that the maker of this piece does videos online and included a card with instructions on how to care for my necklace. I ADORE this store!!!! I think they have the most fabulous mix of merchandise anywhere in the Indianapolis area (including Carmel, Fishers & Noblesville). I hadn't been in for quite some time and decided to make it part of my morning out with my stepdaughter. I wish I could have purchased so much more and had a tough time making my final choices. We got our purchases boxed up nicely and ready to be gift wrapped at home. There was a nice little crowd, all wearing masks of course and the owner was mindful of the number of people inside the store. Found a lovely amathest circle rink, ($30), and a perfect graduation gift for a new college dorm student: see pic: it's a fillable "pouf" that doubles as a floor pillow, but great place to store towels, linens and other soft items in a small dorm or apartment. My wife and I stopped in during a day trip to explore Broad Ripple. This shop is located next to "The Corner" at Guilford and Westfield. It is filled with jewelry, home decor/gifts, and appears to do custom framing too. The shop is small but is filled with a lot of high quality items. My wife kept finding many cool things to look at. I love handmade items, so when I learned about Artifacts on Yelp, I had to stop in to browse. I visited on a Saturday afternoon, and the shop was hopping with people. The store offers a variety of items, from pottery to glass work, to wearable art. If you're looking to find a unique, one-of-a-kind gift, this is the place for you. So why three stars? The store was understaffed and everything I wanted to see was locked up in cases. There was also no pricing in the cases, which I found annoying. If you are shopping with a budget in mind, you want to know how much something costs before you ask someone to unlock the case. However, since there wasn't anyone available to assist me, I finally left in frustration. Artifacts is a fun place to shop but I recommend you stop in during the week when it might not be as busy. Ladies and gentleman, stop your worrying. I have found my imaginary wedding ring from my imaginary fiance for our imaginary wedding. For quite some time I have said that I wanted a natural looking pearl for my ring - not a diamond kind of gal. My gypsy hands would look silly with a sparkling diamond. What better way to pump some mula into the local art community than with an item you're going to be purchasing anyway? DONT bother going in if you have children!!!!! My son was rudely scolded for "walking between cases" that a grown adult could walk through easily (which my mother who was with us actually did). Interesting little joint in Broad Ripple. I enjoyed the local artists whose work was on sale, but at the same time they just shoved it with the rest of the inventory. That should be something to be proud of!!! It took me 20 minutes to find they had PUP...It was just placed towards the back on a shelf. Take pride!! Other than that slight annoyance, they do have a serious collection of jewelry and such that would make any girl max out a credit card. Some is expensive, others are not. I bought a cute pair of earrings for $12 and some goat milk soap as a gift for $7. Not shabby at all. Definitely a place to find some eclectic jewelry or a neat gift for someone..maybe I just wish they were like a certain Irvington store that specifically sells local wares. read more

This place definitely has some cool items... I enjoy walking through here, but very often I will just take a photo of the item that interests me and try to find it online through the original vendor. The markup on items here is insane and I just can't justify spending the money they charge when you can buy the exactly same things for half the price elsewhere. Whomever prices their inventory definitely needs a reality check. Staff is also incredibly rude and smug... I was interested in a ring, but was unsure about wanting to spend the money, and she acted like it was a hassle to show it to me because it was taking away her valuable computer usage time. I wanted to write and tell everyone what excellent service I had at Jared's at Keystone Crossing in Indianapolis! Many people were very helpful every time I called to inquire about my custom made wedding band I was having done. Tara Griffin was my main jewelry expert that helped me immensely! They were most patient during the design phase and produced sketches of what I wanted to do with my rings. There were various steps that occurred. After the sketch was perfected, then came the wax composite just to make sure it was what I wanted. I had to do some slight changes to the design. Therefore it went back to the sketch stage, then to the wax composite stage and then to the final product. The ring was just beautiful and just what I wanted. The staff were so professional and kind. Artifacts always has a decent representation of jewelry and art. It's on my list of stores I goto/buy from on Anniversaries, Mothers Day and Valentines Day. The store is well laid out. The front is small to medium priced items, cool items you might find in a museum gift shop. The middle part starts getting into higher priced merchandise, but its made by real artists and is always interesting and different. As you move to the back area, it gets a bit more pricey and bit more high gallery cool art. I always peruse the entire store before buying something. I am always helped out by friendly staff no matter where I am in the store. I would definitely place this on your list of shops when you need to buy something for someone special. read more
