Everything is skillfully handmade and one-of-a-kind, making the prices reasonable and the pieces treasures that I cherish and protect. She uses quality, genuine materials and uses them in such stylish inventive ways, I sometimes come here to look at the pieces just as I'd visit a museum display. I love that she arranges her pieces in cabinets dedicated to a particular color because it makes it easy to find what you're looking for and allows to you see the great variety and creativity of her work. I've taken to buying presents for all my female relatives and friends here and they alway love them. I particularly love her chandelier and hoop earrings with dangling crystals. The downside to the pieces being one-of-a-kind is that there's no replacing a lost piece. A friend lost an earring I'd given her and since Gilbertina couldn't make another one because she lacked the proper materials, she made a pendant of the fabulous earring for her. Gilbertina is also helpful when making selections, respects your budget and is always grateful for any sale. She also issues gift certificates and I once successfully haggled a bit when buying three pairs at once. A Noe Valley treasure trove!

This is the type of place where it's a joy to come in and browse and get ideas for the type of jewelry you'd buy and the urban backyard garden you'd start, if only.... I go to the Mission District pretty often and Laku is one of my favorite stores to visit. It has a…read morevery adorable, vintage feel to it. The clothing and accessories are so pretty especially the woven scarves and fingerless gloves. And the shoes are gorgeous- almost too lovely to wear even. It also has a lot of one of a kind jewelry; I bought a necklace from there and got a lot of compliments on it. My last visit, I bought a very sweet rag doll rabbit (that my brother is convinced is haunted but he's always been distrustful of dolls). But I think my favorite thing about the store is the art. The owner is a very talented artist and much of her work is inspired by Japanese culture or Frida Kahlo, with a surrealist touch. I'm not an art expert by any means but I do know I can spend all day staring at her gallery. Unfortunately, an original painting is still a bit rich for my blood. Fortunately, she also sells greeting cards that are mini reproductions of most of her art as well as prints so I made sure to buy a bunch of those. The only downside to this place is the amount of money I end up spending when I'm there. But she does have a very cute dog, so that's pretty cool too.

I finally had the chance to stop by here today. What attracted me the most was all of the hello…read morekitty merchandise looking at me through the doorway! Anyways this is a cute boutique. While the boutique has an emphasis on Hello Kitty products (including clothes, undies, and the usual store you'd see at a Sanrio store), they also carry a variety of young women's clothing. I saw alot of tops that I thought were very cute as well as some nice dresses. I wasn't too familar with many of the clothing brands but I imagine its similar to the brands sold at other Haight St stores like XGeneration. The prices are also not too pricey. I also got to chat briefly with Sarah (who Im assuming is the owner) who is very cute and friendly! We we talking about Hello Kitty most of the time but she definitely has love for her boutique. While leaving the store I also noticed that they carry a small collection of Harajuku lovers up at the register. I will definitely make Ruru one of my regular boutiques I visit when I visit Haight St in the near future.
