Nice park to get some exercise or picnic. The loop around the small reservoir is about 1 hr or 2mile in walking pace. There are warning signs for gator but I don't see any. I saw plenty of ducks and turtles. Not too much trash laying around, fairly clean. I think there is only one public bathroom near the south side of the park so beware. It needs to plant more trees for shade on the trail; it was scorching hot in the middle of the day. read more

This park is near my hotel, and admittedly the more recent reviews were less than stellar so I was apprehensive. I was pleased to find I felt completely safe here. Lots of families were walking the trail with kids playing. Probably the only thing that's gross is there is some trash in areas, but honestly a community cleanup day could handle that. read more

An Arthur Storey. This is an absolutely wonderful and underrated park in the West End of Houston right next to Chinatown and Vietnamese Town. You honestly can't get much better than Arthur Storey Park when it comes to public parks around Houston. In some ways we like it better than Memorial Park although there are much less gorgeous people using it - but it's quieter and more secluded and has some pretty amazing views of the surroundings, despite being right next to the Beltway 8. The view of the temple from here is amazing. And the food options around here are way better than Memorial Park. And way cheaper too, and within walking distance unlike Memorial. And the track won't mess up your shoes with red dust. This is a highly underrated park where we saw some really attractive people, but mostly it's unspoiled and undiscovered - and not what I was expecting at all. Definitely one of the better parks in town, and one which I will continue to come to on a regular basis in future. It's close to Chinatown as well, and within walking distance of all of the great Vietnamese and Chinese places. Like, 200 5-star restaurants and 20 great Boba shops and 30 great bakeries within a mile of this. In fact it's situated right between Chinatown and Vietnamese town so it couldn't be any better really. You have to watch for all the adorable little fuzzy bugs thoug, because you might step on them cuz they're always trying to cross the path - and it's kind of sad but I love them so much, fuzzy little angels. They crawl on my shoe and won't get off. And I love them and I love this park and that's all there is to say. read more

Right off of Beltway 8 / Bellaire Blvd intersection, this park is quiet with a playground, a beautiful lake, and a loop for running and biking. The grassland area is well kept allowing for picnic activities as you overlook the lake or watch others run/walk/dogwalk/ride along the trails/loop. Parking can be difficult from 5 until close as the lot fills and you're driving around hoping someone pulls out and you can pull in. Getting here earlier is key. Weekends are more crowded with nice weather so plan accordingly. While there are better parks in Houston, this one will fulfill your needs of getting outdoors and being physically active. read more

The grass was so green and healthy; no overgrown weeds invading the area. As we strolled along the trail, roughly a 1.7- mile loop, we met plenty of joggers and bikers passing by. There were collections of water, where turtles were basking in the sun and dragonflies speeding by. A fish flew out of the water, catching us by surprise. White herons also decided to join the party. The scenery was undeniably beautiful. The park was located by the highway and busy street, yet the ambience was astonishingly motivational and peaceful. Seeing everyone stay active on a Sunday morning was a very encouraging sight. People would also branch off the trail to do yoga or tai chi, finding their zen. Parents brought their children to enjoy the playground. Not to mention, this place is a good location for a date to chit chat and squeeze in some exercise. Benches were scattered along the way to take appropriate breaks as needed. Parking...so spacious. You won't have to worry about finding a parking spot. Overall, this is such an amazing park. With miles of hiking and walking trails, Arthur Storey Park is the perfect park for a quiet stroll in the Chinatown area! The park is very large, and a walk around the wide paved 1.8 mile perimeter of the park took us about an hour to do. The main trail takes you around the large lake in the center of the park. The atmosphere of the park is very quiet and peaceful with lush greenery surrounding the lake perimeter. The park provides home to many wildlife including birds and turtles. There's even a sign to beware of gators! Luckily, we didn't see any gators, but we did see some bees pollinating wildflowers. Great to see ecology in action! As a covid safety measure, most people were walking in a counter-clockwise direction around the park, which limited interaction with other groups of people. There's also a tai chi court, playground for kids, gazebo, and exercise gym for adults here. Added perk is the parking lot is huge! read more

This lovely, yet quite park is located right off the tollway. It's perfect for biking, walking and running. All paths and trails are paved. The trails all circle a small lake that appears to be fed through surrounding bayous. The bird population is lively here, I counted as many as 50 birds, ducks, geese and other varieties of birds paddling and flying along. There is a small picnic area with several gazebos. This area is perfect for light strolls and romantic scenery as the sun sets! read more

If you find yourself jonesing for a walk while you're staying in Houston's Chinatown district, give this place a shot - it's real close. It's just shy of a 2 mile loop and entirely paved. Waterfowl galore can be found at this park. Most of it is in the sun, but it's still good for a quick walk. There's plenty of parking and there are 3 entrances from the Sam Houston Tollway frontage road, so don't panic if you can't change lanes quick enough to get into the first entrance. A local park with a big loop for a nice walk. I have been coming here for years whenever I need some exercise or nature. It's not the best park in town but it's doable. A good spot for a picnic. Nice playgrounds and swings for kids. Also a great park to walk your dog. Parking is usually manageable here depending on the time. It does get crowded at times but the park itself is pretty big. I would not recommend taking pictures for special occasion. The park doesn't have good sceneries. Sometimes it can get muddy in certain part of the park due to rain. After a flood or a hurricane, the park hasn't been looking so good. I've noticed a lot of trash and residue from the flood. In addition, they also have an area solely for tai chi, something you don't see at other parks. read more

I came from another town and love of nature to walk and exercise my dog but finding the trails that are behind Heb have found dump of toilets, broken chairs. Broken bottles, lots of trash. Also there are some homeless camping. I find it very sad. Trail signs with bullet holes. Some with gang graffitti. The trash in the lake in the left side. I found this park right off of beltway 8 and Bellaire exit adjacent to the highway. I had never been to this park before and found it to be an ideal place to burn off some calories that we undertook in Chinatown. The paved track around the park is about 2 miles long. So if you are a walker or a jogger you can enjoy staying on a non dirt. It's ideal for you. Scenery along the trail is nice too. There are bathrooms and water fountains around the front of the park. There are BBQ grills, plenty of play ground equipment for the kids, open area for picnics, and plenty of space in the park for playing sports (futbol, soccer, frisbee etc). The lake in the center of the park is a flood control project and supposedly a good spot for fishing. The parking lots get full on the weekends and the entrances are tricky so watch for the signs or you will miss them. There are at least 3 entrances to the park, so don't panic if you miss the first entrance. It gets pretty busy during rush hour and especially during the weekends. This is when parking becomes a challenge. I usually notice law enforcement officials towards the front and its nice to know about their presence. A nice chill spot for hang out at. read more

This is a place to enjoy the nature and recreation in the suburban neighborhood. Believe or not, Arthur Storey Park is one of the successful flood control projects in Houston since 2008. Once awhile, we get heavy down pours. Like the Memorial Day floods of 2015, it routed water from Brays Bayou to prevent area flooding. The low-laying trails along the basin could be buried. It's not a good idea to jog in a heavy rain. The entrances to the parking lots are tricky. When you approach the park, be sure to slow down and follow the entrance sign. If you missed the 3rd entrance, you have to come around the toll road and try again. So, who doesn't like the benefit of this 210-acre green space in your backyard? I used to walk or jog on the outer loop (3/4 mile); I could also make it a mile by adding the trails around the pond. Lately, my favorite pastime is to feed the ducks and turtles in the pond (watch my in-app video). The picturesque sunset and reflection at the pond make me want to stay longer. Like the Chinese proverbs said 夕陽無限好, 只是近黃昏 - the beauty of sun-setting sky doesn't last. If I had a real camera, I would love to photograph the wildlife. They are especially active in the galley and near the waterline. However, the "watch for snakes" signs got me concerned. read more

Arthur Storey Park is the the closest park to me that has a running trail. Conveniently located next to Home Depot off of Beltway 8 South and Bellaire, the park is less than 3 miles away from me. However, this is definitely not my park of choice when I go running. Why, you asked? Well, simply because one whole lap around the trail is only 1.85 miles. So, if I wanted to a 5k run (that's 3.1 miles, mmkay?) that means, I'll have to go a couple of laps around. But by the time I'm done, I wil have done 3.7 miles, which I shouldn't be complaining about. However, since the trail is so short and there's not really much of a view, especially if you're running alongside the beltway, there's nothing in front of you except concrete and home depot (if you're running South) or the restroom building (if you're running North). Simply put, I get bored running here. But Belly, if you get bored running here and the view is horrible, why would you still give it four stars? Well, the park is clean and nice. And I do take my little Barney here for walks/runs. It's real close to me and the pond in the middle of the park makes a good view. Also, the trail is not flat. It has hills so it makes the run a little bit more challenging. This park also has some picnic area with benches and swings and what not. I guess it's good for quick family gathering or barbecue. However, I've never done that here. But I've seen plenty of families having a get together here. If I'm pressed for time and looking for a quick run, I'll make my way to Arthur Storey Park. However, if I can force myself to drive to either Memorial Park or Buffalo Bayou Park, then that's where I'll be heading. Yes, I know I didn't mention Terry Hershey Park and that's just because I've only been there once and I ran the short trail. Maybe one of these days I'll go there and try to run the long trail. But for now, Arthur Storey, Memorial, and Buffalo Bayou parks for me. read more

I have driven by this park many times during the day and have seen different birds flying around so I thought I'd come and see if it was good for photographing. It's not. They do have a lot of birds - I saw herons, pelicans, and even a beaver there (I know, a beaver is not a bird) but since there are so many people walking around, except for the ducks, the more exotic birds hide in the little island in the middle of the water drainage lake so even a 400mm lens has trouble reaching them. Now I know, this park wasn't made with this purpose in mind and I think it's pretty great that the park's main function is to be a run-off for rainwater and prevent road flooding and it's turned into a place for families and such, but like most jacks of all trades, it's mediocre at being an actual park and trail. The problem is, they have a narrow trail that's for everybody - casual strollers, joggers, and bike riders. If you go to Memorial Park, people there know the unspoken rules of trails - slow-ass people stay on the right, ring the bell when approaching slower people, etc. No such rule here. This area is also a somewhat working class/poor immigrant neighborhood so the crowd reflects that (not being snobby or anything, just mentioning the reality) and I think the park is wonderful for the area and gives people who might not have a chance to go to other parks to have a place to enjoy a little bit of nature and fresh air. For me, I'm kind of a spoiled brat so it wasn't my cup of tea. Maybe I'm mad that my shoes got all muddy. read more

I LOVE, Love, love this park! I think I love EVERY park in Houston but my friend and I have made a promise to each other to walk more in 2019 and THIS is the place. I intend to come here often by myself as well as I am going back to school and this will help clear my mind. There are a lot of people here when you come to walk and the police are usually here so it is pretty safe. Once the sun goes down the park is closed and the constable will actually drive the track and advise you to leave the park. I can't imagine anybody, especially if you were by yourself, wanting to walk around while it's dark. Too much nefarious behavior in Houston after dark! The park is lovely and you can walk many miles in one loop. I don't know the exact distance but it is more than a mile and close to two. It is very scenic with a lake that draws ducks to it. I did see someone fishing in the lake which was cute. It's great to breathe in the nice, crisp air while enjoying nature and I am sure it will be just beautiful in the summer time! There is a nice park with swing suits and so on for children to enjoy, bathroom facilities and PLENTY of parking! Can't wait to return!!! read more

Arthur Storey Park is located on Beltway 8, right next to Home Depot. Since it's close to my house, I go here once every week. Although it's not exactly the cleanest park I've been to, it's one of my favorites! The track/trail is one of the best things about this park. It's a huge circular path, circling the park. Near the front of the park, there is a lovely pond. You can just sit on the grass and watch the peaceful ripples of the water--perfect for meditation. The path on at the back of the park is my favorite. You can walk/run alongside a river, where you will find baby fish and turtles if you look hard enough. There are numerous cylinder stools along that path. You can use these to sit and enjoy the air. What I like to do is use them for step-ups. Doesn't hurt that the water is so nice to look at. They have multiple playgrounds, which consists of 8+ wings, seesaws, monkey bars, slides, etc. If you have children tagging along, definitely let them try the climbing tower that they have. There is also a large grass field for sports and exercises. I use their small hills to run up and down for cardio. They have 2 small houses. One of them is located right next to a duck pond, and you can stay in it to feed the ducks. There are also many picnic benches, so if you want to have a picnic, this park is definitely it. It's perfect for barbecue. You don't have to worry about the sunlight since there are a lot of tall trees to provide sufficient shade. The reason why this park is not is a solid 5 stars (sadly) is because the environment isn't as clean. You'll occasionally find trash around the park. I tried their restroom once and never used it ever again. The locks didn't work and the toilets did not flush. There were toilet papers everywhere and urine stain all over the toilet. NOT a good experience. The parking lot isn't so bad if there isn't a lot of people, but do try to avoid their prime time (5pm-7pm). There will be cars literally blocking traffic just to wait for someone to leave. The parking lot is only enough for cars to park on one side, and you'll have to parallel park on the other side. It's really hectic and bothersome to get out during traffic time. With that being said, I enjoy this park every time I go here. I love the layout and even though I have yet to make a full circle, I intend to in the future! read more

Its a big park with lots of greenery, hills, water bodies and different aquatic species. So many outdoor activities are seen here. Walking, running, picnicking, kids playground, football, tai-chi, meditation and even fishing is allowed here, and of course many more. I especially enjoy the fresh natural air here, which is really so relaxing. Its a nice escape from the daily mundane life and I can rejuvenate for the rest of the day. I have just one complaint. The small pond in the middle of the park with fountain and a gazebo, is dirty. I have often seen chips packets in the pond. Its probably because feeding ducks/fishes can be seen here. I'd take away one star from rating just because of that. Irrespective of that its a very nice park. Its open from 7 am till dusk. There are plenty of seating options all over the park including chairs, picnic tables, swingchairs etc. Parking is tight in the evening. However, there are often ample empty spots facing towards Home Depot. When you take the first entrance instead of taking the left, you can check towards your right parking lot. This is one of my favorite parks in Houston. I always enjoy a walk here by myself or with some friends. Like any good park this park is good for barbecue and any outdoor activities like frisbee or maybe just to lay on the ground with your gf and cuddle with a blanket. The park provides the grill. It is also a good place for a walk with your dog or not. They have several jogging trails, one that even goes down the bayou and to Bellaire then looping back behind Home Depot. It seems that everyone respects the park because I have never seen it littered. They have a big pond here with ducks, turtles, goose and a gazebo in the middle of the pond. This park used to be festered with very friendly squirrels that are too friendly. I haven't seen any lately. In the past, I have had squirrels come up to me and I fed them with bread out of my hand. They are mischievous rascals that will steal food from the ducks and little kids, lol! I love messing with these squirrels! I almost managed to pet one once when it was nibbling bread from my hand. This park is beautifully designed with several basins to hold excess flood water that also attract migrating birds . Brays Bayou feeds the reservoir here. There are sunfish and channel cats in these waterway. I have seen people fish in this bayou before. This park is unique. There is actually a designated area here for Tai Chi practitioners in a circular Yin Yang paved concrete. Grandmaster Cheng Jin Cai and his school http://www.yelp.com/biz/international-chen-style-tai-chi-development-center-houston helped open this part of the park. There is a group of Tai Chi practitioners here at 10AM on Sunday or Saturday. Not only is there a designated area for Tai Chi but the water fountains are designed to feed the dogs too! This is a great place to take kids because of the wildlife and the playgrounds. There are two restroom area here and they are both in the cabin looking houses. One of them white and the other a natural wooden look. My only complaint about this park is the parking space. It is a huge park that attracts many and the designated parking space is just too small for the park. After 2PM during the weekends, there is absolutely no parking space and people tend to park anywhere on the pavement. This park closes at certain hours at night and the parking entrance is completely gated and closed during those hours. read more

I come here once every few months to burn off the calories after a lunch in Bellaire's Chinatown. This park is more beautiful each time I come. There are interesting water birds and ducks in the pond, reservoir, and surrounding ditches. I saw a juvenile eagle tearing away at a squirrel here and countless white herons. There are fish, even catfish, in the bayou. There are gentle hills to practice uphill running on. There are two nice restroom facilities that are clean but never seem to have soap. The outer paved loop is 1.7 miles. The inner loop is 0.9 miles. I wish the loops were gravel instead of asphalt. You won't feel alone or isolated at this park on the weekends. Tons of young families can be found here on weekends having birthday parties or barbeques. The car entrances are from Beltway 8. Arthur Storey Park is the south neighbor of Home Depot. Unfortunately, we can't hop the fence between them. Walkers and bikers can enter from Bellaire Blvd, though--the fence only keeps cars out. read more

The migratory birds are coming back through Houston this time of year and it's time to head back over to my favorite outside the Loop park for some nature enjoying! The paved track around the park is about 2 miles long. So if you are a walker or a jogger you can enjoy staying on a non dirt, brush free path for your exercise. There are bathrooms and water fountains around the front of the park. never used them but they are there. BBQ grills, well kept play ground equipment for the kids, LOTS of open area for picnics or playing catch or even kicking the soccer ball around. The lake in the center of the park is a flood control project but there are plenty of fish if that's your thing. No boats, just bank fishing. Take your dog on it's leash and enjoy! The parking lots get full on the weekends and the entrances are tricky so watch for the signs or you will miss them. There always seems to be a cop of some kind on the property. usually sitting up front. But it's nice to know they are there. They are pretty serious about getting you out around dusk though. It sits right off the Sam Houston Tollroad and sometimes you can hear the traffic. But for the most part it's a wonderful oasis in the center of the Energy Corridor. read more

Dogs running around unleashed kind of wrecked our experience. We have a rescue dog who is very reactive, if a loose dog runs at him while he's on his leash, he becomes aggressive. We keep our dog leashed and always walk off the path, allowing plenty of space between us and another passing dog. There were about a half dozen dogs running loose and their owners really didn't have much control over any of them. So we only walked halfway around-we didn't want to put our dog or someone else's at risk. The park has some beautiful water birds-pelicans, egrets, pink spoonbill, etc. and it felt very safe...other than the loose dogs. read more

This park has my vote for the Best Man-Made "Natural" Park. You'll have to do the research to figure out the mileage, but Arthur Storey Park which is located at Bellaire & Beltway 8 has some of the most gorgeous running/walking trails in Houston. Memorial may have the Terry Hershey Park trail system, but Storey Park has a beautiful path that goes around a sizable man-made lake with truly vista like views. Built "deep" as part of Harris County's flood control system, the trail actually has a decent amount of elevation change. The western portion follows the original bayou and the southern border is open to an additionally huge scenic, natural-looking flood control area. There are plenty of play areas for the kids, but NO big open areas for the serious soccer/organized game players. As has been mentioned in other Yelpviews, the park can get crowded and parking can get tricky. But despite the crowds, my family and I have always enjoyed ourselves. My Tip: If you suspect it's crowded, pull into the parking area immediately after the Home Depot (the only eyesore out here). Otherwise, you'll be making a long U-turn around the Beltway if you can't find good parking in the lot closer to the playgrounds. My Tip x 2: Come out here closer to dusk and enjoy the beautiful sunset. read more

I often come to Arthur Storey Park to run during the week and sometimes on the weekends. From a runners perspective, it definitely has its pros and cons, but overall it's a really great park! The park amenities include a gazebo area, ponds, exercise stations, a tai chi court, a playground and of course a trail for walking and running. The restrooms are decent and clean, so if you have to use them it won't be a dreadful experience. The trails are asphalt and circle the entire park at 1.77 miles. There are a couple hilly areas along the route, which I enjoy as it makes my run more challenging. The park is very open so wherever you are, you can pretty much be seen at all times which is a plus. Unfortunately, there is not much scenery here. Once you've made one full lap, you will have seen all that there is too see. The most I've ran at this park is 5 miles and please believe, by the time I'm done I'm totally ready to chunk the deuces and be out due to boredom. There are quite a few steep grass hills throughout the park which is great if you're looking to get in some outside strength training. I often utilize them to do hill sprint workouts. If you are here mid-day or before sunset, definitely throw on the sunscreen because the sun will have no mercy on you while pounding that pavement. There are no shaded areas on the trails, which really sucks when its scorching hot. However, there is plenty of shade throughout the actual park area. Quick tip- if you come early morning or in the evenings before 6:30 during the weekday, you will beat the crowd. After 6:30pm is when people start to pile in, so beware because parking can get pretty hectic. The crowd usally consists of people coming to exercise or families hanging out with their kids and/or pets, which brings me to another issue- trail ettiquette! Public Service Announcement Arthur Storians- keep to the right of the trail so others are able to pass if need be. This rule seems to be non-existent here, mainly among people who only come for leisure. Having to constantly dip and dodge around groups of people at a time while I'm running is just not cool. Period. My hope is for the park to eventually place signs along the route enforcing this because it has gotten out of hand. A 3 1/2 star rating would be ideal for Arthur Storey, but since that is not possible I will give it a 3 as a reflection of my running experiences which have been good, but not great. On the flipside, coming here to experience the park with family, kids, the boo thang (hahaha) or simply just to get some alone time is certainly not a bad idea. read more

I love this park! It's a great place to have an outdoor picnic, walk the dog or an after work jog. I go at least 3x a week to jog. The only downside is that there aren't any lights along the trail during night hours so it's pretty dark. Other than that it's awesome! And although it's so close to the beltway it's actually still pretty peaceful. read more

We stopped by this park after going to the Lunar New Year Fest at the Chinese Community Center. We just wanted a playground for the kids to play at & this place provided that. It wasn't the best playground but it was just enough for the kiddos. PROS: The parking lot had a good amount of spots. It also has a trail around the park which is great for adults to walk/run on. One thing that excited me about the park was the lake. I love being near water so it was nice to be have a lake to enjoy while walking around the trail. read more

I live about a mile from the park and have been running the asphalt loop since before it was paved, which happened around 2008 if I remember correctly. The large loop is 1.77 miles and you can add 0.025 miles by taking the longer route at the only fork. Some of the positives: 1) It is a good mix of flat and hills so you can run for speed without ignoring the quads. 2) Scenery is very nice given the residential surroundings. Something of a gem in the area. 3) There are rarely many people at the park. I have only seen crowds in the evenings. 4) Police are always present. 5) There are two water fountains and two restrooms. 6) You can show up before sunrise and get an early start in the cool weather. A few negatives: 1) The police start kicking everyone out almost an hour before sundown. If you are there in the evening, that is the best part of the day. 2) The police keep the park pretty safe but there is an occasional minor attack. As with anywhere else if you are walking alone be aware of your surroundings. I haven't spent much time on the inner park area but it has some nice features such as: covered gazebos, nice duck pond, playground, open air walking trails with lots of tree cover, large yin yang (sp?) symbol, and an inner field for games. read more

I love this place. Take my 2 five yr old here pretty often. The park has a nice playground, bathroom, water fountains, and quite clean. We also enjoy strolls along the dirt paths, chase after ducks and turtle - gosh, so many turtles! I also like morning walks on weekdays - very peaceful. Once a while we do BBQ cuz it has BBQ pits and picnic tables. Get there early on wkend if you want a table, otherwise there are plenty of space on the grass if you don't want to cook. read more

A nice sized park that's always populated. Every time I go there is some type of police presence, lots of families, dogs, kids and runners circling the pond. It's great for runners. The path is well kept and it provides a few hills. Make sure you bring water, there aren't fountains from what I've seen Be sure to pay close attention to how you enter. The entrances come up quickly. Also, parking can be a bit of a hassle. read more

its a fairly large park, over 2 miles of track on the main stretch encasing a lake, several other paths that branch off and trail off into longer bike routes. its fairly busy on the weekends and you cant even find parking in the over few hundred parking spaces. i recommend parking on the side closest to home depot or even parking at hime depot and walking over. its a very active park right next to the beltway but still very peaceful with lots of open space and trees. you will find people riding bikes, scooters, flying kites, picnicking, cooking at the various grills and park table benches, groups come to fance exercise and some are playing volleyball, doing calisthenics at the fitness outdoor gym areas, there are kids playgrounds, a yin yang area for tai chi(though i rarely see anyone using it). you will even find people fishing there, despite the signs saying wildlife area do not disturb. if you play pokemon go there are 2 gyms here and 3 pokestops filled with noobs so its easy picking lol there are restrooms but they are dirty, humid and always puddles on the floor. plenty of benches and swings to sit on. there are two drinking fountains. its a very large but boring park in the middle of the most busiest part of the city. other than that, nothing really special. come here if you want to enjoy a park experience which can get rather hot during summer. read more
