My boyfriend bought a Groupon from this studio for a fun date. I'm so glad he did. He purchased 4 private dance lessons which was really good for our different skill level. The one on one interaction is great since you don't feel the pressure from the other dancers in a standard class. There were at least 15 different dance genres to choose from and we opted for: bachata, salsa, marangai, and swing. After the 4 dance classes, we feel very in-sync which each other's body language and the music! Would highly recommend this place. It's located in a good location and the space is great as it has big rooms with high vaulted ceilings and lots of natural light. Go check this place out, if you're looking for a good time!!

Arthur Murray is the BEST dance studio!! My husband and I took dance classes there for our wedding first dance, which took place back in October 2019! This review is long overdue :) It was a classic ballroom style dance with a waltz flair, and we loved it! My dad and I had a surprise father daughter dance that incorporated elements of the songs "Baby Got Back", "Sexy Back", "YMCA", and "Baby Dont Hurt Me". NURIYA and TAYLOR are the BEST!! They went over our choreography seamlessly and made my husband and my father so so comfortable. My husband has two left feet and he literally danced his way out of the studio!! Especially for the surprise father and daughter dance! It started off as a classic ballroom style dance then turned into a hip hop choreography and Nuriya choreographed it so easily for my dad, he LOVED it!! It was so fun and a huge surprise for our wedding guests, our dance was a hit at the wedding and made guests get up and dance!! My husband and I are so thankful for Arthur Murray, this is definitely the studio to go to for your first wedding dance and Salsa dancing and ANY dance in general!! Amber at the front desk is super super kind too and ALL of the staff!! Thank you team!!!!! You made our wedding dances so special and epic!

Laughing and relaxed on the dance floor, thanks to Christina and Arthur Murray San Francisco

My husband and I signed up for classes with Arthur Murray San Francisco to prepare for our wedding. When I called the studio to inquire, a friendly woman named Eva answered the phone, she answered my questions and set us up for our lessons with Christina. I was very excited to start lessons. I danced tap-jazz-ballet as a child and young adult, but only "free styled" on the dance floor at events throughout my adult life (same for my husband). Eva welcomed us to the studio and gave us a lay of the land then introduced us to Christina. Christina was our instructor throughout our wedding prep sessions and found ways to manage both of our learning styles and strengths. She built us up and gave us moves that felt comfortable and natural to the both us, building our confidence dancing together (and apart). She took a genuine interest in our success. The wedding came and went, but we weren't ready to give up our dance lessons, especially because it gives us an outlet to work on building a skill together, being active, and having fun. Christina keeps us focused, but KEEPS IT FUN. A natural people person, she makes you feel comfortable when you make mistakes and gives tools to counteract the "mistakes." Highly professional and experienced, she gives us 100% attention during our lessons. If she wasn't as fabulous as she is, I'm not sure we would have continued with lessons post-wedding. The studio is very well run and the group classes provide a great outlet for practice and dancing with other partners as well. It's an investment, but one that is well worth it. If you are looking to learn something new and have fun in the process, the team at Arthur Murray SF can get you on the dance floor and give you the confidence to stay there! PS. In 3 1/2 months, we've learned the basics of rhumba, bachata, merengue, hustle, swing, foxtrot, salsa and tango. I'd say that's a great start!

There's several class types for all genres (kpop, hip hop, popping, jazz funk, house) - for different levels! So many teachers to choose from, recently I've been taking Jepoy's Beg Hip Hop on Friday nights and they've been so fun! I plan to take others! Each class is $25 unless there's a special guest, and you can book the class online or do a drop in when you're there (They accept Venmo on site!) I typically book day of, but best to book in advance when it comes to special guests. I wish there were class packs of some sort because I would love to come more consistently. Parking is pretty easy on Fri nights, but I can't speak for the other days, as it is located in the city. They also have spring performance workshops, which I plan to do in the future! I'm excited to keep coming back!

I used to come a few years ago, and I recently started coming back. I was pleasantly surprised because the current batch of teachers is much better than it was before. I took Eddie Mina's class on 6/24/26, and I absolutely loved it. The vibes were great, the choreography was taught thoroughly, and Eddie is an excellent instructor. I'm only taking off one star because I wish students were more aware of dance class etiquette. I understand that dance classes are supposed to be fun, but constantly joking, talking, and being unfocused with your group of friends while the instructor is teaching is disrespectful (not only to the teacher, but also to everyone else who paid to be there and is trying to learn the choreography) It was distracting enough that it made me hesitate to come back to this instructor's class if his crowd of students continues to be like this. (I didn't experience this in Austin's class, so I think the crowd varies by the teacher) In LA, most dance studios and instructors emphasize class etiquette and remind students to stay quiet and focused while the teacher is demonstrating or explaining choreography. I think that really helps create a respectful learning environment for everyone. I hope City Dance Studio can consider reminding students about class etiquette at the beginning of class or by posting a simple reminder on Instagram. I genuinely enjoyed the instructor and would love to keep coming back but the student environment is the only thing keeping me from coming back.

After work I would go to ODC on certain days. I've been taking hip hop classes since 2007 at ODC. Almost 100% of the hip hop classes I enrolled are taught my Micaya. What I love about ODC is the studios aren't dark inside. Also the studios are spacious enough where you don't feel cramped. Even though I've taken hip hop classes for almost 20 years at ODC it doesn't feel dated. The one complaint I would make is regards to Studio B, which is where I take hip hop classes. Most of the studios downstairs have wooden floors however upstairs inside Studio B the Marley floor has too much grip or can be sticky. I'm surprised that throughout the years I haven't twisted my ankle or knee. Despite the Marley floor I enjoy taking hip hop classes at ODC.

What is more I was made to feel it was my fault when I was doing nothing wrong. Heartbreaking.

They take the time to look at you, what you're doing, and help you learn, adjust, and get to know your body more. I'm an unlimited member, but the $25 per class (or whatever it is), is the best way to spend $25 in San Francisco. Not exaggerating. Jess is such an experienced coach. She moves like water. She watches your body, and understands how it works. She makes hands on adjustments. Being in class with her - I truly feel like I'm with a professional-grade artist. Power Barre is a must, for any dancer, any fan of Pilates, or anyone who just wants a lean, toned dancer bod. And Pop Jam is so much fun. I've also taken Jazz Funk with Tashi, which is the BEST way to start a Monday. It's beginner friendly, but you learn technique. She's fun, lively, hilarious. Every single person is beaming when they leave her class. Drenched with Anna is also a pleasure. She's a delight to watch. A true athlete in her flow. It's a real workout! Belly Dance with Andrea was a surprise to me. I had no idea what Belly Dance was until I took this class. As it turns out, Belly Dance is like a mix of Pilates and Booty shaking. I didn't think I could move so precisely, but Andrea is such a good teacher, and so good at explaining the moves - I believe she can teach anyone how to Belly Dance. She has a thorough understanding of the history, the culture, and the artistry. Hip Hop with Mahi - the most energetic ball of fun there is. She's effortless. Drenched with Diamond - another great workout, and a delightful way to spend a Saturday morning. I love to take my girlfriends and get brunch in Union Square afterwards. Also, the Rae Studios Showcase was SO much fun. You get training in how to perform as a group. The adrenaline is intoxicating. There are people who do four per season, is how fun it is. How many opportunities in life are there to perform? Rae Studios makes this accessible to everyone. The world is tough right now. We could all use a little more dance and light in our lives. Check out Rae!

This could be helpful but even the experienced students are a little off from Tika at times. And then she yells "ARE YOU EVEN PAYING ATTENTION?" at the beginning students for not being able to follow her exactly. She stops the dance throughout class to berate the entire class. Everyone, as a whole, she talks down to. No one is goofing, chatting or not paying attention and she still flips out acting all insulted because we aren't understanding the cultural or historical significance of the dance. In a time in the world there is so much negativity and hostility towards others, this is the last thing I want to experience (and pay for) when going to dance. On her first day, she reported to me that the jazz teacher (Isabela) did not allow the students to take bathroom breaks. She was also unnecessarily mean and said to one of the students she didn't care that they were tired. I wrote an e-mail addressing my concerns, and for some odd reason this same teacher was extra rude to my daughter the next day. She made my daughter do extra warm up reps although my daughter said her back was hurting from practice the day prior. At some point during class, she grabbed my daughter's arm very harshly. All the students in that class agreed that this teacher was unfair and unkind. My daughter refused to go back to dance camp and we had 2 days left of paid camp. Management refused to reimburse me and made excuses for this type of abusive/unprofessional behavior for this particular teacher. All other staff members were very nice. I can make a bigger deal about this matter by filing a complaint with the BBB or even take them to civil court. But I've decided to write my first review on Yelp just to forewarn other parents.
