I came across VRV3 Studio on ClassPass and gave pole a try in the summer of 2024 just to try something new and different. I could barely hold myself on the pole but loved the challenge and atmosphere. Fast forward eight months later, I'm now an unlimited member of the studio (highly recommend for overall $ value if you get hooked and go to the studio 3+ times a week), can do cool tricks I thought wouldn't be possible for me to learn, and pretty much spend the majority of my free time here. Why do I love VRV3 and recommend to literally anyone with a body to try it? 1) Super supportive atmosphere and great sense of community. I've been to fitness/dance studios in the past where I felt judged for not being able to get something quite right, but everyone here is kind and cheering me on! 2) Extremely thorough and knowledgable teachers. They're also great at giving modifications that work for your body. 3) Well equipped studio. Crash mats, yoga mats, grip, and even ginger chews if you get dizzy on spin pole. 4) If pole isn't your jam, they also offer lyra, silks, straps, calisthenics, trapeze, and flexibility classes. 5) You may have the pleasure of meeting Merlin if you're taking a class with Melanie :)

Are there a lot of plus sized people who come to beginner pole classes? I feel like I will be left out bc I'm extremely out of shape and a large lady. Do the classes accommodate plus sized people? TIA!

It's exhilarating, it's a little scary because it's so different, but it's addicting. I had muscles hurt the next day that I didn't even realize I was using. The best part about it (besides the fact that you can go flying through the air) is that my knees and ankles didn't absorb the impact like it would in a normal jump or burpee or jog. This is great for all people, big, small, athletic or not, if you try something and you don't quite get it, it's ok you're tethered to the beams above. I made a reservation ahead of time, I did a drop in "Intro to Bungee" class $45 because I was just visiting from out of town, but everytime I'm in the bay area I am gonna come back because it was that awesome. Everyone is required to do the Intro class first, and even though my instructor (shout out Malcolm, he was pure awesome-ness!) said I could move onto Level 1 next time, I would take the intro class again if I had friends that want to try it too. I did get to see some of the Level 1 and Level 2 moves, which looked really hard to do, but THAT IS MY GOAL! I wanna be a flyer! I couldn't stop thinking about this class for the entire plane ride back and then several days after I got back home. P.S. You do have to jump on the scale before class because they need to know how much weight the bungee needs to support. If they went by my drivers license weight or what I *thought* I weighed that day, the bungees would not have supported me and I would've fallen flat on my face.

There was no advance notice to arrive early for registration or equipment fitting. We had to fill out about two pages of forms (personal information and a health questionnaire, including weight) and then get fitted for the bungee sling. With three staff members assisting around 13 participants, this process took some time, and the class didn't start until around 1:00pm. Wendy, the instructor, did a good job leading the class and provided clear guidance overall. However, some very simple movements were explained in a more complicated way. For example, when moving diagonally, she described it using specific angles: moving at a 35-degree angle, placing one arm at 90 degrees and the other at 45 degrees, then transitioning the 90-degree arm to 45 degrees: which made a basic movement harder to follow than necessary. The actual workout lasted about 35 minutes, and we finished around 1:35pm. Wendy mentioned that the studio has been open for about a year and that classes are typically around 40 minutes. The workout itself was very low impact: I didn't sweat at all, so it felt more like a fun experience than a real workout. No photos or videos are allowed during class. Participants are also expected to wipe down the bungee equipment at the end as a courtesy for the next class. Overall, it's an interesting and unique class to try once, but considering the price and the shorter workout time, the experience felt average.

Having previously taken an initial trial class, I consulted your staff and later purchased a 1-week trial package online. The system allowed the transaction, and I scheduled three classes. At no point during my consultation or the online checkout process was I informed that this purchase was invalid. After attending one class, I contacted the assistant to upgrade to a 10-class package. Instead of facilitating this, the assistant informed me that I was ineligible for the weekly trial, abruptly canceled my remaining sessions, and demanded I pay the full standard rate for the single class attended. It is highly unprofessional to penalize a customer for a system loophole and staff oversight, especially when I was actively trying to purchase a long-term plan. I request a review of this matter and a fair resolution.

I'm so glad I made that decision, because Addie is awesome!!! She's super nice and really good at teaching! The class I was in had 5 other participants. We first showed proof of vaccination and our ID before filling out the waiver. The lights were dim and the studio itself doesn't have many mirrors. I felt that this promoted confidence because I didn't have to feel self-conscious in the mirror, or worry about how I looked in front of others. Because I'm more cautious, I kept my mask on. I appreciate that there was no pressure to have to take my mask off. Anyway, so we start off with a warmup that focused on flexibility and core strength. Spoiler alert: I lack both, but I did my best! We also learned how to crawl and do some sexy leg work. Then we got to pick a pole and we learned some moves: a spin, how to walk around the pole, and how to uh dance around it? At the end of the class, we learned a routine and had the option of recording ourselves. We even got to try on heels! Uh a little heads up on the heels: your best bet is to size up. I normally wear a 5. The 6 fit me fine, but I might've felt more comfortable wearing a 6.5 or something. I'm really considering taking the 5-6 week series.

I typically book day of, but best to book in advance when it comes to special guests. I wish there were class packs of some sort because I would love to come more consistently. I used to come a few years ago, and I recently started coming back. I was pleasantly surprised because the current batch of teachers is much better than it was before. I took Eddie Mina's class on 6/24/26, and I absolutely loved it. The vibes were great, the choreography was taught thoroughly, and Eddie is an excellent instructor. I'm only taking off one star because I wish students were more aware of dance class etiquette. I understand that dance classes are supposed to be fun, but constantly joking, talking, and being unfocused with your group of friends while the instructor is teaching is disrespectful (not only to the teacher, but also to everyone else who paid to be there and is trying to learn the choreography) It was distracting enough that it made me hesitate to come back to this instructor's class if his crowd of students continues to be like this. (I didn't experience this in Austin's class, so I think the crowd varies by the teacher) In LA, most dance studios and instructors emphasize class etiquette and remind students to stay quiet and focused while the teacher is demonstrating or explaining choreography. I think that really helps create a respectful learning environment for everyone. I hope City Dance Studio can consider reminding students about class etiquette at the beginning of class or by posting a simple reminder on Instagram. I genuinely enjoyed the instructor and would love to keep coming back but the student environment is the only thing keeping me from coming back.
