I decided to get out of my comfort zone and enroll myself in the Prelude to Pole class. I felt like for one day, 1.5 hours long, I could handle it. I'm so glad I made that decision, because Addie is awesome!!! She's super nice and really good at teaching! The class I was in had 5 other participants. We first showed proof of vaccination and our ID before filling out the waiver. The lights were dim and the studio itself doesn't have many mirrors. I felt that this promoted confidence because I didn't have to feel self-conscious in the mirror, or worry about how I looked in front of others. Because I'm more cautious, I kept my mask on. I appreciate that there was no pressure to have to take my mask off. Anyway, so we start off with a warmup that focused on flexibility and core strength. Spoiler alert: I lack both, but I did my best! We also learned how to crawl and do some sexy leg work. Then we got to pick a pole and we learned some moves: a spin, how to walk around the pole, and how to uh dance around it? At the end of the class, we learned a routine and had the option of recording ourselves. We even got to try on heels! Uh a little heads up on the heels: your best bet is to size up. I normally wear a 5. The 6 fit me fine, but I might've felt more comfortable wearing a 6.5 or something. I'm really considering taking the 5-6 week series. read more

Such a fun place to go for a birthday party or bachelorette! I went here this past Saturday for my friend's bachelorette party and it was so much fun. It's a really good place to start your night out. The owner and staff are so friendly and so much fun. We walked in with a warm greet from Nicky and Patricia. You fill out a waiver and take off any hand jewelry, put your belongings in cubbies and they lock up the front door while you're in session. I believe we were there for about an hour and a half and we learned the basics of pole dancing. It really is a fun place to try out and a great workout. read more

I've been coming here for about five years (!) and I love it. There are tons of good things I could say about it, but I'll try to keep it short and useful. These are my favorite things about this studio: - The classes are very balanced. Besides the actual training for spins or tricks, they include a quite hardcore warmup and stretching that will help you gain the strength you will need later on, and time for dancing in the end. - They get you to freestyle from very early on. Instead of just teaching you cool tricks that you can only do for a photo, they actually put a lot of emphasis in dancing. After just a few weeks of class, you'll feel comfortable dancing and freestyling. The studio is super supportive and encouraging, no matter how you look or how experienced you are, and you won't feel shy or insecure even if you're just starting and can only do a few spins. - The instruction is organized through series, so you'll get to know your class buddies and you will learn step by step, building strength and form for whatever comes next. You will also get a lot of personalized attention, because the instructor will actually know you and spend time with you. I find this particularly useful if you're not the kind of person who is naturally skilled or gets tricks super fast, because you won't arrive or leave a class feeling completely lost, useless, or frustrated. - It's very safe! They don't use crashmats, and that doesn't make it unsafe, but the opposite. The instructors won't let you do stuff unless you're actually ready to do it, they'll spot you until you're confident about it, and eventually you will feel comfortable enough to do it by yourself and incorporate it in your dance. And again, they'll spend time with you to make sure you're doing it right. - The owner, Nikki, is very good at identifying why you're not being able to land a trick, and will give you specific tips to actually do it. Not only that, but she trains her instructors to be aware of the details people find challenging, and address those. If you've ever had the feeling that an instructor was just too good of a dancer and they just couldn't understand why a move is difficult to you, you won't have it here. This probably won't be the right studio for you if you can only drop in every now and then, if you learn very fast and are able to get many tricks right away, or if you just want to learn tricks and don't care about the dancing itself. read more

Ladies, if you wondered (in my case... fantasized)... stared at the 14 foot high pole... chin up, thinking about pole dancing, I high recommend it! Pole dancing is an amazing form of fitness. It works on your core and building strength, all while having a really fun time. The community and support at E&S is so positive. You're surrounded by women who are there to learn pole, house lights are dark and dim, with red accents. No one (except) your teacher watches you (to correct your form or if you can't do a particular swing) while you connect with your body and dance. 2 hour classes goes by way too fast and I'm addicted. I look forward every week, as it's on my #CannotMiss item on my calendar. Personally, it's super sexy. You connect with your body, even if you're too shy to admit it. You sweat. You work hard and you'll want to get to the next level of this fitness faster. You gain confidence, you watch your teacher swing on the pole thinking "no I can't". But in reality, you're swinging along just as soon as you can lift up yourself on the pole. Friends have laughed at me when I tell them what class I'm taking. They/ society may have a negative connotation on what/ who a #poledancer is. I'm a pole dancer student because I love love love everything this form of dance teaches me. I'm not working towards a "performance" so please don't ask me . I feel stronger every time and it's mind over matter when my body is telling me no. I can't wait until I can climb! I don't know why it's taken me so long to review, but i LOVE this studio. It's definitely my favourite pole studio in the city so far E&S has open houses every now and then, which are free and it's a great time to check out the space and meet some of the students and teachers. Plus there are snacks and raffles and even demos so you know what you're getting yourself into ;) lol. You can even try a few spins if you want after the demos are done. I went to one of these open houses with a few friends. At first glance, the studio was smaller than I was expecting, but I like that they have plenty of poles (there's even a back room for private use if you book, or for smaller classes). Since i've taken some beginner classes before at a pole studio in Canada and a couple in sf, it was suggested i come in for a pole perfecting drop-in class to check my level. While in the end i ended up being back at square 1 - passage to pole (intro) - i was glad i stopped in. essentially, i had open pole time to do my own thing and practice a bit. And i was able to meet a teacher and some of the other students. The teachers i've met so far and the other students are fab. Everyone is friendly and welcoming to newcomers. Its definitely a warm community, not just a quick in and out type of studio. Since that first class, i've also been to pole silks classes (which is actually the main reason i came to the studio in the first place) and started the passage to pole intensive series and i'm never disappointed with how the classes turn out. This studio is a bit aways for me (need to take a couple buses to get there) but i don't mind since it has such a positive and open learning environment. Everyone kinda has their own reason for being there, whether it be for fitness or wanting to feel sexy, and the studio caters to all. For polesilks, everyone has their own pole. For the series classes, the max ratio I've seen is only 2 students per 1 pole, which was great for getting lots of practice in. That was the issue I saw at other studios where you have to share with a lot of people and don't get a lot of actual pole time. So, so, so many reasons to LOVE this place. 1) The work out is great. You will be quickly and SAFELY trained to do moves and dance that you once thought was only possible if you were an acrobat. 2) All the instructors are top notch: Nikki, the owner, trains them all on her own; her classes are her curriculum, which she designed, that is based on good and safe strength and flexibility training. 3) It is ridiculously fun, the kind of fun that should be illegal or sold in mass quantities. Jk. It fulfills my deep need to party, hangout, and dance my ass off. I almost don't want to write this so that other people won't come and over run the studio.:) Like, you go to bed early, give up wine, and eat veggies b/c you get to pole dance Sunday. (Ok I'm a bit nuts but it feels so good to be able to get every minute out of each class.) 4) The classes are small. No more than 10, with 6 poles and plenty of space. You only need 1.5 hours. So you really get to practice and get your moves down. After, you will try in vain to put your shoes on you are so tired. 5) You won't get bored. So much to learn, but that's not what this studio is all about. They pretend to be teaching you when really you are just having fun. Dancing is key in this studio, it isn't a bunch of tricks but floor and vertical dance! 6) The space is lovely. Very feminine but not cheesy. There are shoes and props for you. There are cubbies for your stuff and a changing area. 7) You can buy nice swag! shorts, bras, etc. 8) The other girls that go there are so nice and fun! All ages, shapes, and athletic ability. You will feel the lady love:) Very supportive and non-competitive. 9) You can find ways to get your fix w/o going broke. Yes, $30 may seem like a lot for each class in the series, but it is more FUN than anything, like worth eating PBJ for a week good. You can get unlimited packages and large packages for drop ins lowering the price to $20 a class. 10) I hate work-outs but I go to pole 4xs a week. I have great muscle tone, lost weight, and can do side splits. But I don't care about all that BS because when I leave, I am so, so, so happy. This review is long LONG LOOOONG overdue. I kept sitting down to write one and getting overwhelmed - I just have too many good things to say! When I think about Entangle, I want to just wax poetic through volumes and volumes about how this little studio has taken me on a breathtaking journey through myself, movement, and music. How this little rose-filled safe haven has led me to gain not only incredible physical strength, but the courage to express myself in ways I never thought I had in me. It all started a little more than a year ago, when I came to my first Passage to Pole class. I had a Groupon and that's about it. I had no idea what pole dance was about, only that I had seen some exotic dancers in Portland and I had admired their strength, grace, and flexibility. I was shy, intimidated. I had no dance background, felt clumsy most of the time. Yoga gave me some flexibility but I balked at the thought of having to freestyle dance without guidance. All my fears were alleviated very quickly. Nikki, studio owner & radiant beautiful supportive pole mommy extraordinaire, took us all under her wings and step by step taught us to crawl, walk, float, and then fly! I learned to let go and surrender to the music and my body and move in ways that were just natural to my own self. This studio is so unique in its emphasis on creating a safe environment just to explore our own strength and elegance. For the most part, there is no choreography. The classes emphasize incorporating tricks and spins into an integrated, natural, and fluid freestyle. It feels wonderful and it's breathtaking to watch my fellow students. Which leads me to the thing I'm the most appreciative of this studio for: the girls! I've made friends with so many wonderful women here. It's incredible how diverse the student body is and it really is a reflection of E&S being a welcoming safe space. Everybody is supportive and encouraging to everyone else. I can honestly say I've never met such an empowered, sweet, and loving group of women. All the instructors here are wonderful and dance with heartbreaking beauty, each in their own style. They all make sure that everyone advances at their own pace and teach good form to minimize injury. No one is rushed into things they don't feel safe doing and we are fully prepared to the learn the moves we are taught. One year in, and I know this is only the very beginning of my pole dance journey and it keeps getting better and better. I've been taking classes with Trisha, the head instructor, for 2 years now. She was my first pole instructor and by far my favorite instructor ever. I've had a few others, and while I've liked my other instructors, Trisha is the person who made me love pole and I always come back to her. She creates a great mixture between fitness, dance, and tricks/inversions/spins. I feel like I'm always learning something with her, whether it's in my dance or in my inversions. She's encouraging, fun, and inspiring. I aspire to be better after every class with her. And if you've ever seen Trisha dance (which she does at the Open Houses and after every class) you too will have a jaw-dropping experience and want to be like her. I also have to say that I love that they've made it affordable here. Other studios around this area are charging upwards to $40-55 for one class. At that rate you can only afford to go once a week and honestly you don't learn as much when you go only once a week. E&S has made it so much more affordable that if you want, you can afford to go multiple times a week (they offer a free drop in class every time you sign up for a class too...who does that?!?! Freaking awesome!) I love the space here too. It's very inviting and safe. This is my haven to come when I want to be myself. The two ladies (Nikki and Trisha) who created this studio have worked hard to make a place where you can workout and not even realize it. The warmup at the beginning of class just flows so well and one minute your'e flowing and dancing and then all of a sudden you're doing an ab work out or leg portion and you're thinking, "oh yeah, I'm working out!" and then you melt back into the flow of things and it's so smooth and beautiful. This is my space to embrace myself and love me for who I am. I know it's all cheesy, but it's truly empowering. I've never felt so comfortable in my own skin and been so happy with myself for who I am. This is where I go to be me and to find myself. I also love that anyone can pole dance...and Trisha breaks it down in a way that it's easy for anyone to learn! I've seen women of different body types and ages doing this. It's pretty awesome and this is hands down the best studio I've been to in the bay. The other studios seem to either focus on the dance more or on the tricks more. This is a great combination of both, you learn a new move every class and you always get to dance too. It's pretty awesome, it's the best of both worlds of pole dancing! Oh...and be prepared to get addicted. Pole dancing classes can be a bit of an investment at times but OMG are these worth it at Entangle & Sway! The studio is really comfortable feeling, dim lighting and no mirrors, and Trisha has the best taste in music to really help you relax and get into the dancing! I just started my 2nd series of classes here and I have a feeling I'll be sticking with it for the long haul. For beginners, they have a nice intro workshop too that you can try and get just as addicted as I did! Trisha and Nikki (the owners) are so great, very helpful and supportive! It's a great location, easily accessible and not at all in a sketchy neighborhood. I don't know what else to say other than if I could give them 10 stars, I would. You've got to have a lesson here if you're going to try one in SF! This review is not related to the actual pole experience and instrucutors. This review is about the lack of customer service and response. I am extremley annoyed and feel unwelcomed by this company. Why would a person need to leave 3 voice messages and not get a call back? After two voice messages, I did email and received with a 24-hour turnaround response from the owner, Nikki. It was really sweet of her to apologize on the lack of voice messages given to her, and she provided all the detailed information. She even mentioned a Sunday, 2/11 class availability. From there, I responded back later that Tuesday, 2/5 evening indicating I am unavailable, would like the following Sunday if available, and had a follow-up question to the information. However, I did not hear back. So I decided to call and leave a voice message on Saturday, 2/10. It also turns out I was not leaving town and would be available to take a course on Sunday, 2/11. I did not hear back via email or my message. So I never took a class this past Sunday. It's now Tuesday, 2/12 and NO response either email or phone call. I'm sadly disappointed on their professionalism. Why would a client need to be the proactive one? I've gone above and beyond. I know us, Americans, are always expecting top customer service and that "customers are always right," so I try to not be too much of a burden. I try to be proactive to make things easier for them. However, this is just ridiculous. They lost a customer who would have been a long-term one. read more

I arranged a pole party for my friend's bachelorette party and I must say, this was the highlight of the night! Frankie was our super friendly instructor and made us feel completely safe while keeping the party going. She gave plenty of attention to the bride to be and even gave us a choreographed dance at the end of the party to put together all our moves. Nikki, the owner, was kind enough to take posed pictures of us at the end of the lesson and posed us so we looked like stars! This was my bride's favorite party and I'd definitely recommend Entangle & Sway for a super easy and fun bachelorette! Tip for those attending a pole party- wear some lingerie! I love Entangle and Sway! The location, the adorable studio and the amazing instructors (both Quynh-An and Nikki). I've been taking private lessons from Quynh-An and have nothing but amazing things to say about her as an instructor and as a person. So friendly, patient, accommodating & so talented. Both as a dancer and as a baker (I've been the lucky recipient of her masterpieces on several occasions now). PROS: 4.5 stars if I could give it. Nikki is a fabulous and supportive instructor who really instills confidence in dancers. I felt welcomed here and it seemed like a very warm and safe environment for women that want to feel good about themselves and express themselves through pole. In general, the pole world is divided into three factions: sensual, artsy, and fitness. E&S is MUCH more about the sensual side of pole, encouraging more advanced dancers to pole in high heels (performance and competitive pole is usually done barefoot like gymnastics). Slinky, sexier moves during the freestyle portion as well as tricks are also encouraged. Classes are fun (e.g. the pole play class where you pick music according to a theme and each girl is given time to freestyle). Classes usually include a freestyle element which gives this studio a more whimsical feel. CONS: Only 2 mirrors! Mirrors go against the self-esteem building that the studio emphasizes but I truly believe that mirrors help you correct your form and perform a move safely and in the proper way which is critical. Mirrors don't take away from developing musicality unless you don't emphasize feeling the music during classes. And honestly between musicality and doing a move correctly and beautifully, the latter is more important. No boys allowed. I get that they want to make it a safe and accepting environment for women but I think all people who are genuinely interested, should be given the chance to pole. Nonetheless, E&S fulfills a niche that you won't find at other studios. You will definitely channel your inner strength being here. Nikki is also an incredibly detailed instructor who truly cares for her students. The environment is not for everyone but do yourself a favor and check out a class and it just might be for you. read more

My favourite thing about Entangle & Sway is that Nikki and her very talented team of instructors maintain that every woman can take part. They've created this amazing little refuge where every woman is welcomed and celebrated and encouraged to really find out how their body can move. Not only that, their system of classes is paced in such a way that you find yourself learning amazing feats of acrobatics and grace at exactly the right pace. All the instructors love the dance so much, they are willing to be as patient as it takes to teach everyone what they want to learn. They have a focus on freestyle dance rather than routines. This breaks you out of the regimented style of dance that everyone is familiar with from childhood ballet classes - your dance becomes an exercise in getting out of your head and focusing on the flow of your body's movement. I also love the fact that each trick is taught with emphasis on being able to work it into a dance as an effortless movement and not just as a stand-alone trick. When I first started at E&S, I only wanted to learn tricks and I thought the sexy fluid dances were not for girls like me. So, I was really wrong about that. Dancing your tricks makes you feel empowered and beautiful. It is Pole Dance after all. So, if you're interested in Pole, but are a little reticent for all the reasons that most people are, or think that it's not for girls like you, come along to one of the intro classes at E&S and be converted. read more

FABULOUS PLACE for Bachelorette. I can't rave enough it... Totally back all the other positive reviews. I planned my best friend's bachelorette here and it was delightful starting with the pre-planning party arrangements and all the way through to the very end of the sway pole party. Leslie was incredibly prompt, professional and easy to coordinate with via email. She made the whole planning/payment process easy and stress-free. She wasn't pushy and gave great suggestions. Thank you SO much again for everything! The pole party was a huge hit and everyone left with a big smile. The bride-to-be was left extremely satisfied. Our instructor was Patricia. She was super friendly from the moment we walked in the door, throughout the class/party. It was hard to say goodbye and rush off to the next event. Everyone was having such a fun time, they were almost reluctant to leave. We had a class of 9 girls and everyone let loose and just danced. Even the shyest girls in the group got up and let go of inhibitions in this non-judgmental/non-competitive environment. Patricia guided everyone each step of the way and was very encouraging to everyone with positive feedback. She also made sure that we took some (fantastic) group pictures throughout the course of the class and before we left. A sincere THANK YOU for a very memorable and fun party. If you're planning a Bachelorette Party, I highly recommend including a Pole Party at Entangle & Sway. The bride-to-be had an amazing time and is still raving about it. I worked with Nikki, the owner, to set-up the party. She was so helpful and even danced for us (and was fantastic!). Quynh-An, our instructor, was awesome! She was very attentive, made you feel comfortable, sexy, and really showed us a great time. The class was fun, empowering, and a great workout! For the party, I added cupcakes (delicious!) and a special gift package (the cutest surprise ever!) for the Bachelorette. We had a theme for our party and every little detail was tailored to our theme which made it extra special. Nikki and Quynh-An went above and beyond to make this pole party unforgettable. Love this place! I decided to buy a Livingsocial deal for this place. I had always wanted to try pole dancing because it looked like a lot of fun. I was a little intimidated because I am not the most fit of person and was afraid I wouldn't be able to do certain moves. I got there and the ladies were so sweet and welcoming. They really make you feel comfortable. It is a good thing to comfortable in these types of classes because the moves are sometimes very intimate. I also enjoy that it is an all woman's studio, which makes you feel really comfortable. The instructors are very encouraging and really work one on one with you during the class. Pole Dancing is weirdly very empowering! I have been now to 3 classes out of 5, and I am so happy I've gone to this place! I am not perfect at pole dancing, but I feel like I can work at it! If you are a beginner and EXTREMELY nervous about learning Pole, this is the studio for you. They've got the best instructors, the best atmosphere, and the most supportive group of ladies you would find. Trust me, I know because I've checked out or researched all other studios in SF, if not, in the Bay Area. I did a thorough due diligence on a-lot of the nearby studios through Yelp, talking to other people, Instagram, studio's official website, and all other possible means. (Yes, I am that serious about this sport and I wanted to make sure I go to the best studio since I am spending $$$ on this!) oh by the way, their prices are affordable compared to other ones. I didn't realize how fortunate I was to start my pole journey at this studio until I've learned about the other ones. Their class size on on a smaller end compared to others which is GREAT because you get more individual time with the instructors. Most importantly....no one here will judge you but to support you and cheer you on! So...even if you are scare/nervous AF, you should totally give this place a try! read more

I started the Passage to Pole series (all new students are supposed to start here) with a deal voucher. I really like how their website has a lot of information and it's easy to sign up for classes online, so that when you arrive for class, there's no payment or paperwork or asking questions -- mostly, you just get right to dancing. Many pole classes have a suggested wardrobe of short short shorts and other things not everyone has at the ready in their closets, but in the beginner classes here they don't do climbing, inversions, or other skin-on-the-pole tricks so you can wear whatever, which is nice. For later classes, you'll figure it out as you go along. Now that there are many pole fitness class options at gyms around the city, you might be wondering why you should pay more to go to an actual pole studio. There is a big difference. At Entangle & Sway, you get an environment -- dim lighting, beautiful curtains, carefully selected music; real professional instructors -- Nikki and Trisha know how to teach in a slow progression so you can really learn things inside and out and put your own spin on them (pun a happy accident), and keep you very safe along the way; and a secure and supportive network -- everyone there is there to explore pole dancing with you. It is a feel-good workout that also can change your life by discovering a side of yourself not often encouraged. I've been getting some serious bruises, but I would still go here several times a week if I could afford it. I respect the studio for trying to keep prices as fair and affordable as possible, but it is still an expensive hobby (aren't all the good ones like that?). Wow, never thought I'd be taking a pole dancing class, but my ridiculously sexy friend convinced me to give it a try. She found a deal where we take an intro class for $30! Basically, the class consists of the students sitting in a room with mats and poles. The instructor stars with a warm up, then walks you through basic moves that you practice on the pole. It's a workout for sure! My abs hurt and I had random bruises on my arms and legs, probably from spinning around on the pole! Our instructor was really nice and patient! She knew most people had never done pole dancing or they had limited experience with it, so she was more than willing to help out any way she could. Plus she showed us a sample routine and she was SO AMAZING! The classes are for girls only! A major PLUS! I don't think I'll be back because I'm just way too awkward and uncoordinated, BUT this is a fantastic place to learn about pole dancing! If you're into this kind of thing or are just interested in it, then I highly recommend coming here! The workers here are SUPER nice and the place feels like a safe haven for learning. Of all the pole studios I've tried, in SF and otherwise, Entangle & Sway is by far the best. I have so many positive things to say that it's hard to know where to start. The owner and instructors are phenomenal. They are super impressive and knowledgeable, for starters. They are also super positive and encouraging, which creates a very comfortable and approachable environment. I honestly can't imagine a place that is more inclusive. Along similar lines, the community here is great. It is truly a wonderful, supportive group of people. The studio itself is also pretty rad. First of all, the community at this studio is amazing. Very supportive, very communicative and worth the money you pay for a class! With that being said, I've been going to the studio for some time but have run into some awkward and uncomfortable points just in the last few times I was there or communicated with the teachers. I made a mistake choosing my class because I already had some experience with higher level classes and thought it'd be okay to skip a few levels. Instead of taking me aside to tell me I need to be in another class, one of the teachers booted me from the class in front of everyone. It was embarrassing. Shortly before the pandemic as well, I paid for a lower level class no problem, and then the studio closed. I tried to get my money back because the class is pretty expensive and I could use that money instead of letting it sit. I was told that I paid for an in person class and would be able to take it when all was back in session. Basically, the answer was no. So, just take discretion when going to this studio, but also enjoy the experience. read more

Boy am I glad I did! I absolutely LOVE this studio. Nikki (the owner) is amazingly dedicated to her studio and it shows. The instructors are patient, encouraging and incredibly talented. They work with you individually at every class to make sure you are learning the moves and working at your own pace. The women who take classes are all different shapes and sizes. The studio has an intimate feeling and lights are kept dim to make you feel comfortable about working your stuff on the pole. I love it so much, I've just signed up for the next level series. I'm a big muscular rugby playing/muay thai fighting gal that scoffs at dancers and laughs at all the pretty girls in little outfits. A girlfriend and I wanted to try "pole dancing" with a Livingsocial deal for their 5-week introductory course as our gift to each other for the New Year. It's been 6 months since my first class and I've proudly joined the ranks (bootie shorts! 7 inch heels!) and coming back once I return from my summer trip. The things that make this studio a place I love coming back to: 1. All the classes are structured in a building blocks kinda way. You're not going to be launched upside down in your first week. So you work up to building shoulder and core strength. You learn how to move from wall to pole to floor to couch. It's not just trick after trick after trick. You take is slow. You move gracefully. Things get easier as you continue doing them. A series is $180/6 classes (including a drop in) so that works out to be $30 a 1.5 or 1.75 hour class. Pretty sweet deal. 2. All the instructors and ladies-who-pole are super-duper nice and supportive. They were there with you once - they know your struggles EXACTLY. No one is there judging - everyone's trying to keep the poles dry, keep their legs from being slick and work the new tricks into their dance. At the end, EVERYONE hoots and cat-calls at you while you dance - even if you're doing a simple back hook spin or a crazy inversion. 3. Nikki, is the owner and runs a tight one-woman ship. Sometimes she doesn't respond on the phone calls immediately but it's better to email her - she'll get back to you within 24hours. The studio is CLEAN and kept dark (so you don't see every love handle creak down the pole) and you can pick your song to dance to at the end. There's cubbies and a changing area and a bathroom. 4. There's all these fun little workshops they have for spinning pole, Australian pole champions coming in for a booty bumping workshop, and drop-in classes with themes. You can jazz up your fitness routine with a fun dance-like class on the weekday AND/OR weekend. The classes are structured to have a warm up, you learn a spin/inversion and a transition. Then you dance. In my first class, all these girls were sliding gracefully down their poles and my fat ass thudded hard onto the ground. I wanted to cry. I can deadlift 280lbs but I can't slide down a pole??? WHAT A JOKE! But my darling instructor Ashley told me: Sometimes you just gotta walk away from the spin and it'll come to you. Oh and it did. The same applies to climbing up the pole, falling head first from the pole, dancing on just your tip toes REAL slow to music. My sister planned my bachelorette party here, mid April at 7pm. She said the booking process went well and communication via email was sufficient. My girlfriends and I had a blast. GETTING HERE: driving to SF is always a pain, so its expected you need to parallel park. The location is not in a very busy area, but spotting the place is a little hard. Thank goodness for phones with GPS. We saw the little sign, looks like an apt/house, next to a locks shop. We arrived early, but there was a class already inside, so we waited in our cars. No, there's not a waiting area or lounge. When you arrive, its a cramped space, so i was a bit turned off... but after you settle in, it doesnt even matter because its so much fun. You are to sign a waiver before you begin anything. APPEARANCE: the place looked good for a pole dancing studio. It's dim, a few mirrors, curtains for privacy and six poles. There are cubbies for your belongings against the wall, a small bench to sit on, and a curtained off changing room. Through the studio, there is another area for the bathroom. It does seem somewhat crowded when there are 15 girls there at the same time, but doable. I'm not sure if my sister arranged it, but there were ballons in my wedding color up in the studio. :) THE PARTY: all 15 of us ladies had a great time. we did a warm up, we practiced some simple moves, and then our instructor (Patricia) showed us a routine. She was very patient, and she wasn't rude, but very professional, and let us all do our thing when we got distracted with socializing. She helped us take group photos, and didnt just push the camera button, but she made sure everyone looked at the camera and such. She wasnt pushy at all, always gave us options, but also kept things organized. I did feel our pole party went by quickly. Very understandable, we had 15 girls so we had to rotate to share the pole (the bride gets her own pole), we did waste our own time talking, and we did do a toast in the middle. The music was appropriate, and Patricia again, gave us options of what we wanted to listen to. In the end she showed us her sexy moves on the pole, and we were all impressed! First off, a disclaimer: I've never gone to any other pole studios so I don't have any others to compare this one to. That being said... I began taking classes here in September 2013. I'd seen a deal on LivingSocial and had always seen my cousin's posts about pole dancing and how much she loved it, so I thought I'd try it out. I purchased the intro 5-week series and followed the instructions for redemption, which said to email the studio. I heard back from Nikki, the owner, right away. She was very friendly, sent me information on class dates and what to expect, what to wear, etc. (She also mentioned that email is the best way to contact the studio. There isn't anyone there if class isn't scheduled, and if class is in session the ringer is turned off so as not to disturb it. Every time I've emailed the studio I've gotten a response within a day.) I was a little nervous before my first class - I've never been much of a dancer. I even had a couple of glasses of wine before I went. When I got to the studio, I loved the environment. It's kept dimly lit and there are only 2 mirrors (which are mainly there to help the girls doing inversions work on their form). The instructors were super friendly - all of the girls there were, really. The girls leaving the class before mine were excited for us newbies and really supportive. After our warmup, the instructor told us what she'd be teaching us that night, and said after that we were going to dance. I literally thought, "Yeah, I'm not dancing." But surprisingly enough, I did! And even more surprising, I loved it! (Like I said, not much of a dancer.) After the intro series, I signed up for the beginner series, and then the intermediate, and now I'm trying the inverting classes. Here's why: 1. The ambiance. Like I said, the studio is dimly lit and there are only a couple of mirrors. This really helps to not make girls feel self-conscious. I'm a bit of an introvert and was really nervous about dancing in front of others. The fact that the lights are low and there are other girls dancing at the same time really helped make me feel more comfortable! 2. The people. The instructors here are so friendly and supportive, and I've never seen them do or say anything that might make someone feel self-conscious, even when we're having a hard time learning that week's spin or inversion. They're always cheering us on and telling us how great we're doing, and when they give us pointers it's always positive. The other students are amazing too, giving each other pointers and cheering each other on. Everyone is so supportive; it's amazing. I love spending time at the studio. 3. The curriculum. I love how they have the classes set up. Nikki has talked about how pole is a progression, and I've noticed that the classes are set up that way. They teach the basics first and progress gradually from there. Before you know it, you'll be able to do things you never thought you'd be able to! I've been taking classes for about six months now and really feel like I've come such a long way since my first few weeks. The scheduling of the classes is also awesome. After my first series was over, the next class in the progression was offered on the same day at the same time, so I didn't have to worry about fitting it in my schedule. They've continued on like that, with the next class starting up the week after one ends. In addition to the two instructed classes I take every week, I also take advantage of the weekly drop-in classes. I've been getting stronger and more flexible since I started coming here, and it's also helped boost my confidence. I've been trying to get my friends to come check it out, and those who have have gotten addicted too. I think that some of my friends are skeptical because think it's all about stripping. This might be true at some studios, but not here. There is a sexy aspect to be sure, but it's so much more than that! I recommend that everyone give it a try, it's a blast! This is the first time in years that I've found a workout that I've actually stuck with. I was there for a friends B-day party Pole lesson party and it was great! Our group is not a loud party crowd and was a little apprehensive but Trisha made everyone feel comfortable while at the same time creating a fun party atmosphere. Everyone wears comfortable clothing and dances barefoot but they let you use fun accessories to play with like feather boas and candy colored fluffy tutus=Superfun! AND at the end they have some killer heels you can pose and take pictures with as proof! (but if you have giant size feet like mine bring your own shoes to pose with!) You dance mostly to slow "sexy" stuff but extra points for playing Mariah Carey's "Heart-breaker"! Our group was small, 5 people so everyone got a pole to dance on and didn't have to share, a definite +! I go there super late (sorry!) but they were able to get us up to speed and pretty soon everyone was doing fun tricks! They give you a little routine to do with mostly easy stuff sexy stuff with hair-ography etc and some "real" pole tricks so you feel like "Wow, I'm actually doing this!"- very fun! We all thought we were doing awesome and then Trisha did her own routine for us at the end and we realized we just touched the tip of the iceberg-thats a real pole dancer! She must have abs of steel! Anyways I can see how it would be really addicting! I would love to go back! (if it didn't mean driving up the peninsula, le sigh) And it really was a workout! I tried a different studio in the city before this one. That studio was focused on the techniques of pole, not dancing. I also felt very slow and behind at that other studio because it lacked a structured format and you were with people of all different abilities in intro and beginner classes. Entangle & Sway is SO different. You take a "series" for 5 weeks that eases you into pole: one choreographed routine, same classmates every week, and there is a huge emphasis on the dancing aspect! The class size was small, and I felt like I actually had time to practice beginner spins without having to rush into something more advanced too quickly. I have zero background in pole, dance, yoga, or rock climbing, so I really thought I would be at a disadvantage. But by the end of the 5 weeks, I was so much more flexible and graceful! Now that I have tried every studio in the city, I can finally write my review! Pros (compared to other pole studios in the area): - You will make a very close pole family - Classes are taught by series, so all tricks you learn are built on and worked through until perfected throughout the entire series. You also learn to connect your tricks and transition in and out of them instead of just learning a trick and then never knowing what to do with it. - Freestyle! You will learn to love freestyle dancing! It was nerve racking (still is sometimes) but it makes you feel great and you discover new ways of connection spins and tricks that are all your own - Really nice, big studio - Studio rentals are the best priced - Classes are 1.5 hours so you get time to do split stretching and a work out instead of just a quick warm up. - Amazing teachers! - SAFE - this is the most important factor compared to other studios. E&S Will make sure you are ready to do tricks before you just throw yourself into one. This doesn't just mean falling from a trick...but building good habits and making sure you don't encounter chronic issues down the line. - The owner, Nikki, is extremely talented at teaching. She knows exactly how to explain tricks and figure out progressions to tricks so that you can build muscle memory. Cons (compared to other pole studios in the area): - No mirrors - Poles don't really spin Conclusion: If you're unsure about this studio, they offer drop in classes so you can try it out. It has been six months since I left SF and on the top of the list of things I miss is Entangle and Sway. At the studio I found everything I needed to feel good even when I was stressed out or upset - a place to dance, laugh, listen to music, relax, feel super-sexy, express myself, challenge myself, learn and get encouraged by amazing women along with a great workout and - probably the best body figure and flexibility I've had since high school... The classes and levels are really well-designed, you feel your body getting stronger and well prepared for the next level. The classes themselves are long which is a bit time consuming, but the intense warm up is what gets you flexible and strong and capable of getting the moves right. And the instructors (and my pole-mom Ashley!) are so patient and seem to know exactly what you need to do to improve. Since this is a females only studio, with few mirrors, you are so much more relaxed and can really focus on dancing however you feel like. And all the girls who instruct or dance here are fantastic, they encourage you from day one even when you feel like an ugly-duckling, and you learn a lot from dancing with them and watching them dance. It took me way too long to start going to the pole play sessions, but they have been some of the best times and I really recommend that you join once you can. Two last pieces of advice: If you think you are not the type to "pole", but you still are reading this, try it out at entangle and sway. It will change your mind, it totally changed mine. And if you are worried about what people will think - don't. Once you start and realize all the amazing outcomes you are getting, you will be proud to tell people about it (ask my dad!), and your significant other will enjoy all the benefits of a more confident, sexier you :). read more

When I lived in Hawaii, I taught pole dancing for three years in a studio just like this. I've been looking for a pole studio just like this one since I moved to San Francisco. It's a peaceful and supportive environment where the women can really be themselves. They have multi-week routines for various levels where you learn freestyle dancing and new pole moves, which is what I love. Nikki, the owner, is very sweet and really spends time with her students. I recently dropped into entangle and sway for a pole connections and a pole method course. Even though I was an outsider Nikki and her team were beyond welcoming! They answered my emails within minutes of me sending them and were very helpful in recommending me classes to take. In particular, I was interested in connecting with the flow aspect of pole, something I had been neglecting in my personal training. Dangle from a single toe at 12 feet no problem! Smoothly move in between tricks... uh what?! Nikki's pole connection class definitely helped me in that regard. First of all, the warm up was super thorough. Afterward my abs definitely felt sore but my body was more than sufficiently warm. In addition Nikki gave clear instructions and necessary modifications for those struggling with some of the moves (ahem me ) The classmates were also super super supportive and helpful. They would cheer for you when you nailed a complex spin or help break a move down if you were struggling. And at the end of class, everyone did a group freestyle. Let me just say these ladies can move! Merciful heavens I have never seen students with such mesmerizing floorwork! I was entranced! So confident and smooth and sensual! They were amazeballs. The space itself uses minimal lighting and mirrors. I think this is probably to have students focus on their own movement and not get too self conscious or critical during floorwork and transitions. All in all I had a wonderful experience and would definitely recommend this studio to anyone who is looking to connect with the sensual side of pole. read more
