ARTEFACTS, Cornerstone, Sonoma, CA

This is a wonderful shop...full of interesting salvaged items....do go look in the back lot...just amazing. I have not seen items in the size and scale they have here anywhere else. Downside...the prices are very high. I was in love with a rusted , old piece of black fence...1.5' x 2.5'...it was $120! Perhaps they give discounts to designers?! This was the best thing about our trip to Cornerstone.

Is it still a knick knack if it's 18 feet tall? I think what attracted me at first was the English Bulldog flopped outside in the sun, lying there, just exuding laziness. Her name is Uma. I watched her being still for a bit and then noticed the store behind her. I am generally not a fan of antique stores, as they are usually full of junk you wouldn't buy at a garage sale, but this place was pretty cool. Who needs an 18-foot iron clock face salvaged from a factory? Or a set of three gigantic heads, replicas of the David of Michelangelo? Or maybe a large tin lion from Belgium? I don't. Nobody does, I guess. But it'd be pretty cool to have a space big enough to decorate with some of the pieces here (I'm thinking the clock face for you Roy H.). Pots, some cool books, neat furniture, vases, spice pods, etc. all contribute to making this a pretty unique space. Maybe just because of its scale, but still... Inside the Cornerstone Gardens Compound, this store occupies a large barn and a yard and is just a great place to browse. Some items are actually reasonably priced, too.

Forget buying this stuff to fit in my tiny Nob Hill apartment... I'm moving in! This place is unbelievably amazing and gorgeous and when the Boyfriend and I bought a petrified wood soap dish we both cooed as the saleswoman wrapped it up and put it in a bag made out of a newspaper from some exotic Asian country. I made a solemn vow that when I make my second million, I'm going to spend every dime here. I'm going to splurge on pendant lights and distressed turquoise chairs and wooden tables fit for a King and random street signs and a miniature polkadot teacups that will be displayed on a window sill. How awesome would it be to have the owner's job of traveling around the world and bargaining for fantastic pieces of furniture and decorative accessories? This is definitely on my top ten career paths; somewhere between human rights activist and travel guide.

Hands down the best place to find really amazing salvage from all over the US and Europe. Some of the best designers in the country use this hidden treasure to find one of a kind gem. Stone fountains, amazing wrought iron, stone statues, wood doors and on and on. The owner is often on the road finding and collecting treasures from around the world, but you can often find him walking the space organizing and showing off latest finds. Defiantly a great stop when you are up in the Valley Wine Tasting!

Lisa also designed my wedding band, consulting with my and my fiancee to create my dream ring while sticking to our budget. I couldn't be happier with my rings. Lisa is awesome!

As someone who is not a ring or jewelry wearer I wasn't sure where to begin the process of purchasing the ring I had been thinking about for many years. Lisa was incredibly helpful in guiding me in metal/gold choices, ring shapes and sizes that would look good on my hand, and cast versus die struck signets, and designs. Ultimately, I decided on a gold signet ring with a custom family coat of arms (which Lisa and I modified from images of my family crest found online). Although I was nervous about providing our own design, Lisa assured that my design was skillfully replicated in the final product and I am thrilled with the results. Working with Lisa was a pleasure. I highly recommend Lisa H Jewels without reservation. I wear my ring every day and frequently receive compliments on its uniqueness and high quality.

VINTAGE MAP/POSTER STORE - GREAT FOR GIFTS AN SF MUST SEE…read more*tip - very limited hours check beforehand Schein & Schein is a San Francisco staple. I've never been to another place like it. Walk in you'll be greeted by a quiet dog who sometimes relaxing on the sidewalk or on the bench in the store. Make sure you come with extra time because you can spend hours looking - which I do. There all types of maps from all around the world and posters of all kinds. It's hard to call it a map store, more of a manuscript store because they have drawings, pictures, old advertisements. I hope this place is there for years to come. The owners are friendly, helpful really seem to love what they do and are more than happy to help. I will be coming for that Eddy Map one day!

Want a treasured & priceless photo framed in museum quality materials? Ditto. We checked out old maps of SF. Before Coit Tower & after Coit Tower. And pics of the GG Bridge being built. Crazy. There's even a "library series" of scented candles. The selection is pretty astounding. Maps are organized in a drawer filing system by city &/or country, or in binders. A great place to explore the world & get lost in it. 5 stars.

I saw a really cute littke Snoopy figure in the window and went in to ask about it. I stood in front of the salesperson who was behind a counter on a phone or just distracted and I said hello. I asked about the Snoopy in the window. He told me it was $50. I asked if I could see it. He told me I would need to buy it to see it. What kind of store does that? Apparently this store that I won't be buying a Snoopy at. Ugh. There's so much random stuff in this store that I don't understand it at all. Unpolished silver, used vintage silk tops with armpit stains, hats, art to decorate your oldest living relative's house...and a Fender Knock off guitar in the window selling for $450, but worth less than $60.
