I had my wedding ring designed over 3 visits with Dan Trudeau following recommendations from friends and family and I still cannot believe how smooth everything went! I was not sure what I was getting myself into or what I even wanted, but knew it would be non traditional and unique. He spent time looking at my inspiration pics and "pulled me out of the ether," regarding what was and was not feasible. Was able to use a diamond from each of my grandmothers' wedding rings. He was transparent about the cost throughout, provided education on different jewels with thoughtfulness around important specifics I would not know to ask about; ease of cleaning, shades of gold, size of my hand, finger webbing, how settings and light will impact my choices, factors that influence longevity and maintenance. He was mindful to not insert his opinion outside of the structural capacity of my ideas, despite my requests. He searched and found different stones for me to see in person, much faster than I imagined was possible. At The final appt before the ring was built, he created wax version of the ring. I was initially concerned due to size/bulkiness, though he walked me through the details of how it would look differently upon completion which put me at ease. The ring was created with subtle details that he learned through our appointments about me; he specifically balanced diamonds on the band to support straight alignment in relation to my specific finger webbing (with only measuring my ring size and eyeballing my hand), "you can go rock climbing in this thing." Overall, this was a special experience I shared with my mother and finance in my home town. I will return for cleanings and highly recommend this place. My mother also had multiple items resized and repaired with prompt and beautiful results. The entire staff was kind and personable. They engaged intermittently along the way with their past personal and professional experience with different stones, designs, jewelers... After our first visit, I was just not sure if I was on the right track in part due to my severe indecisiveness, but all visits after that confirmed this was the right place to be and I am in love with the result. I recently sold several gold items here, including a 14k hunter case pocket watch. During the evaluation, the items were taken out of view and I was not shown individual weights or a clear breakdown of how the value was determined. The watch, which had multiple gold components including an inner cover, was discussed but ultimately folded into the overall estimate without being separately accounted for. The explanation given for its lower value focused on a "broken crystal," which does not materially affect the scrap value of a gold case, where weight and karat are the primary factors. I was paid approximately $400 for the watch. Without seeing weights or a transparent calculation, I've since found it difficult to reconcile that figure with what a multi-component 14k gold case would reasonably represent. I would strongly recommend that anyone selling gold ask to see weights and a clear breakdown before agreeing to a final price. read more

I wanted to provide an update and additional review of the Harlem & Co jewelry repair services. Staff were wonderful and went above and beyond to repair my ring. Not sure how it happened but shortly after I received my ring one of the gems in the middle went missing so I called them up and explained and they gladly were willing to help. This is the place I build time for any time I go home to visit my family. My mom is always happy to acquiese - she has had Dan, the in store jeweler creator stylist magician, make her more pieces than I can count. I make a bee line for the estate case - I have found some really incredible vintage pieces over the years. I also take time to look at all the cases - its like a museum in there for gem stones and also inventive new ways to display them. Their customer service is AWFUL. They are not friendly at all. My mother in law told me to go here and since it's one of the only jewelry stores in Sonoma I did. When we got there they told me it would be over a week to get my wedding ring sautered to my engagement ring. They never even called me when it was done I had to call them. Well my husband gave me another band for the other side and I wanted it done the same way so they looked the same. I took it back and they rushed it and barely welded the second one to the engagement ring. It made the whole ring look bent. They did not look the same after it was done. I took it to a shop in Petaluma to see if I was crazy and they told me they didn't weld it on the top which caused it to bend and they would fix it for me. When I just went to go pick it up they told me they had to completely take apart the ring on both sides because the jeweler said there was no way of fixing it and had to redo it completely. It now does not look bent, looks like it's all one piece and it is way more sturdy. The jeweler in Petaluma didn't even charge me to take it apart and redo it because it was so messed up in the first place. I will NEVER go back to this place again. The customer service and actual craftsman ship is terrible and I'd rather drive out of town then trust them with anything again. read more

I feel so lucky to have found Halem. I was looking for a special piece and was having no luck until I went to Halem in Sonoma. The feel there is different. Carmen allowed me to browse freely without hovering over me. Then when I requested her assistance, she was happy to help and show me several pieces until I settled on the one I wanted. Once I had selected the piece, Carmen let me know that the jeweler, Dan, was onsite and called him to help me with alterations. Dan further explained the construction of the piece and the special aspects of it. I could tell that he was genuinely excited about the piece. Dan is an amazing designer of jewelry. I brought my wedding ring to Dan to resize and possibly add a band of lab grown diamonds but not change the look of my ring too much. Dan came up with the idea to bezel my diamond and follow the shape of my original ring with the diamonds. The ring pops and is absolutely beautiful and exactly what I wanted. We talked with a few jewelers before we decided to work with Dan because so many of them refused to listen to the things that were important to us. This experience is many years overdue in bringing to light, but because it still upsets me to this day, I have decided to write it. In 2002, I brought in a diamond necklace that my daughter had given me and asked if the diamond could be used to make a ring. I was told yes and assisted in designing a ring for which I paid close to 3 thousand dollars. When I came to pick up the ring and before leaving the store, I noticed that the diamond looked odd. The jeweler inspected it and I was told that the diamond was cracked. I was shocked and asked what happened. The jeweler stated he had nothing to do with it and it must have been cracked when he received it. The diamond in my original necklace was not cracked and no mention of a cracked diamond was ever part of the conversation during the design for the ring. The jeweler was arrogant and I was intimidated by his gruffness and left the store. To this day, I have never worn the ring and I still feel deeply wronged by this company. read more
