I have walked into many a cute shop and admired the goods, and still left without a purchase because there really wasn't anything there I fell in love with or fit the vibe of my apartment, etc. After brunch with a friend today, we stopped in Global Heart, where I've purchased a few other things I really love, and immediately saw a table runner I knew I had to have, because it just "fit" with the all the color I'm trying to add to my new place. Staff here are consistently helpful, upbeat, and kind. Easily one of my favorites in the neighborhood, and from my perspective, a good place to find nice touches that won't break the bank. read more

Global Heart - Table runner. I'm smitten with this one. Had to have it. - Home Decor Near Me - Sonoma, California

I could buy out this whole store, there are so many high-quality and lovely items for sale and the staff and owners are really nice. After a visit there a month ago I realized I wanted a couple of more items and I reached out to them by email and they were so responsive and quick and items are being shipped to me less than 24 hours after the conversation started. If you're in Sonoma and looking for good quality gifts for your people or yourself, do not miss this lovely store. read more

This place has super cute things that are eco friendly / fair trade/ etc. I bought a wall hanging for my keys, a snack baggy for my doggo's treats, a wrist wallet, a decorative gold wall hanging, and some guitar pick earrings from here. I've used the wrist wallet every day since I bought it. It's super useful for every day wear. I also use the little dog treat baggy, it's attached to my keys, so I never leave without it. And I've started using the wall hanging for my keys every time I come home. No more looking around for my keys. I know where they are now! The lady that runs this shop was super friendly too. And was super dog friendly. She didn't mind my Lilo in her stroller at all. Spent a good bit of time here finding things just because it was dog friendly! Will be back on my next trip to Sonoma! read more

I was surprised at the vast selection of unique items available! The shop has many well organized sections. I purchased several items at reasonable prices. I will certainly tell friends and relatives traveling in their direction to stop in to be surprised at the many items available. Service is excellent and very helpful. I am generally not a "shopper", but I am already planning to return soon. Fantastic experience. read more

We came in the evening when they were closed and saw the perfect gift for our neice's graduation! So we came all the way back to adopt this little guy. There is an adoption fee of $30. They're ethically sourced, handmade little llamas from Peru made from real alpaca fur. They're so soft and my neice loves llamas, so we got a little something to remind her of her family as she goes off to college. And my husband got one for us too. Service is wonderful and welcoming. The shop is geared towards sustainable handmade products from around the world: beautiful hand woven baskets, hats, etc. And yes, the cutest lil llamas and alpacas! read more

Such a cute shop right in the heart of Sonoma. My friends and I actually visited this store at least twice while in Sonoma Plaza. The first time I was tempted by so many different items and I told myself well if it's open the next time we're in the area then maybe I'll make a purchase. Alas, they were open and I bought the cutest little llama banner of sorts, cute headband, and a couple motivational metals that I plan to use on my keys. I love that this store is a fully fair trade store and I love the wide variety of items they have. Seriously, from coffee to olive oil to jewelry to kids clothes - they have it all from around the world. If I wasn't traveling, I probably would have purchased one of the magazine bowls from Vietnam but I guess that's all the more reason to come back! I'm a fan! read more

I visited the heart of Sonoma right after the crazy wild fires ripped through in the Fall and was so enlightened by all the support for the firefighters around town and local shops like this that had signs in the windows saying thank you, Sonoma strong, let's come together, and other lovely supportive messages. That is what got my in the door of this shop but their products are what had me staying for hours on end.. Global Heart Fair Trade is such a beautiful concept of a shop. It's a perfect example of thinking on global scale and helping on a local level; everybody wins! All items in shop are Fair Trade from around the world and things vary from wallets, bags, jewelry, cards, holiday decor, home decor, chocolates, and so much more. Locals and tourists alike should shop for their gifts for others here. I bought a ton of stuff while in town and will definitely find more shops I can visit like this for gifts in the future. The products have amazing stories behind them too and when you purchase they give you the information card to wrap up with the item so you can share the story with whoever you're giving it to as well. I caved and bought a necklace hanger for my wall for my myself - It has the word Love made out of old bike chains on it and painted over looking brand new. At first sight I fell in love then hearing how many jobs it created to have that product selling in shop and the beautiful story behind the people who made it.. I had to have it, and it hangs on my wall now always making me smile. I will definitely come back and would recommend it to all! read more

There is some thing for everybody in the store. So much eye candy! I could've spent all morning in there. There are tchotchkes and gifts and beautiful wall hangings. I've been into this store twice yet haven't had a chance to walk all the way thru it. The ladies that work there have been very rude. Fake nice I can deal with because I can ignore that but rudeness is uncalled for. The spirit doesn't match the intention of the store. read more

I love this gift shop in the heart of Sonoma. It is worth the trip during your visit to wine country. The store has three rooms filled with unique gifts from jewelry to home decor. If you like... Putumayo World Music Hour National Geographic's Novica And the idea of "thinking globally, acting locally" ...stop here. This lovely little store located on the historic Sonoma Plaza sells fair trade goods of all kinds (including - but not limited to - decor, accessories, clothing, jewelry, and even a select supply of food items). If I had unlimited funds, my entire house would look (and smell) like this shop! Global Heart Fair Trade is MUCH bigger than it looks from the outside - rooms filled from floor to ceiling with beautiful, inspired, worldly items. I like that things (at the least the ones I looked at) were also clearly labeled with where they came from: I got a very cool, simple, one of a kind silver ring from India that represented earth and water for $9... great way to remember my time here (which was filled with, as you can imagine, a lot of wine). Prices seemed beyond reasonable to me, and if you bring your own bag or decline a bag for your purchase you'll be gifted with a bit of chocolate. It feels (and tastes) good when you do good, doesn't it? read more

This is the one store I have to visit every time I'm in Sonoma. I pretty much love everything about it -- from the way it looks and smells to their honorable fair trade practices and global outreach/awareness. It's like a smaller World Market without all the wine and beer, but still a pretty large storefront considering it's location on the Sonoma Plaza. You'll find 3 rooms full of unique goodies from around the world. Scarves, headbands, jewelry, bedding, kitchenware, candles, decor, a fantastic children's section, coffee and tea, artwork, chocolates, all kinds of knick-knacks, wind chimes... Everything is hand crafted and has a story to tell. Items here aren't cheap, they're a bit on the pricey side, but you have to consider the product and where it came from/how it was produced. Check out Global Heart's website to learn more about how they source their products and interact with their business partners/crafters/builders/artists. You can feel good about spending your money in a shop like this. I walked away with a beautiful new headband, a ring, and an adorably unique cat carved from stone and painted in vibrant colors. It's the perfect place to find an eclectic gift. read more

Baksheesh is an interesting Middle Eastern take on Cost Plus World Market. Like it's much larger Corporate doppelganger, there's lots of cool looking tchotchkes (over 3 big rooms) which are reasonably priced, yet leave you wondering what you're going to do with them. I think I remember an old Business School case study that pointed out that these places are low price - high margin establishments. That or the possibility that they own the building might explain why they're still here within this "high rent" district. In any event, it's worth the time to look around, because in terms of useful uses from causal purchases, you never know. read more

I was on a time constraint when I was visiting this store. I couldn't stay long to browse and look at all the merchandise that they had to offer. The handmade scarves in various colors were beautiful. Some of the items were pricey. I fell in and out of love quickly with this handcrafted blue bag from India - the cost of $25 had me looking for something suitable to my budget at the time. I did find another canvas tote bag at $16, which I went ahead and bought. There were purses, greeting cards, clothes and jewelry that my heart so desired, but alas, I had only 5 minutes to look at their merchandise. My husband and I can always come back in the future to shop and dine in Sonoma. read more

Great fair trade retailer that sells items made by people in developing countries. Lots of jewelry, purses, rugs, etc. The back room contained interesting toys, nativity and Christmas items...one I remember was a wooden card that when opened contained a carved nativity scene. I purchased a unique necklace of turquoise, green and navy disks made in the Philippines. I liked that you can choose a shopping bag or receive a small chocolate bar! Chocolate for me; necklace was wrapped in tissue and went down in my purse! Kind of a small store. Although it's all on one level, someone in a wheelchair may find it difficult to squeeze through. read more

Global Heart - From Baksheesh web site - Home Decor Near Me - Sonoma, California

Global Heart Fair Trade is a delightful little imports store. They were formerly known as Baksheesh, but changed hands back in 2014. They have a good selection of http://www.putumayo.com world music albums, but it's all about the timing. You may end up getting it online because it's more convenient. They've cut down on their food selection, but that could be because even mainstream coffees like Folgers have gotten into Fair Trade/Rainforest Alliance. Their handmade cards help victims of sex trafficking&landmines, so they do champion noble causes. It's still a great imports store in light of all its changes (they recently changed store layout- mistakenly thinking they no longer sold music) Friendly service, found some music. Pleasant little spot. read more

Super friendly gal working the front both days I came here. Decided to pop in while wandering downtown Sonoma and was so glad I did. They have very cute handmade Covid masks (ended up visiting again so I could buy two more cause they fit so well!) and a bunch of beautiful boho style items like quilts, baskets, purses, jewelry, ornaments, and also a good selection of edible goods. Picked up a 12 bean soup to make at home! Glad we stopped in. Will be back! read more

Baksheesh means donation. This is a superb store and must see if you love to see small decorations from all over the world, there was stuff from Peru, India and Pakistan just to name a few places. Great prices and located in beautiful Sonoma downtown. The whole family enjoyed the visit. read more

I like the idea of this store (disadvantaged folks in other countries making stuff and hopefully making money from it), but I really don't like the store very much. There isn't much in there I'd buy for myself, and maybe only a few things I'd give as gifts. There's a lot of the usual gimmick-y "Hey, look at this bag. OMG it's made from soda can pop tops." or "Hey, look at this cool bangle. OMG it's made of old copies of Cosmo!". There's also a lot of predictable ethnic looking jewelry made in other countries that the people in those actual other countries don't actually wear. There are a lot of really boring looking chino-clad rich ladies in there going, "Oooh this is so *different*. You know I'm into the funkier stuff." I would really prefer it if the store had things that were made by impoverished people in other countries, and that those things were things that those impoverished people actually used in their day-to-day lives. That would be much more interesting. The only thing in there that I would buy was the elephant dung stationary. It's made of elephant poo that has been dried and pressed into paper, which is cool and slightly humorous, and it comes in beautiful colors and features whimsical animal designs. read more

If you like Global exchange in SF, don't miss Baksheesh. No middle men costs so gifts of beautiful papers, cards, scarves, bags, and home decor here are intentionally reasonable. Some generic looking things if you've never seen a recycled tire bag before but others are a little funner. If you have a latent hippie chick inside of you that needs a little release with under priced accessories, this, my girlfriends and cross dressers alike, might appeal to you. Headbands and headwraps here are $5-8. stock up ladies. read more

What better way to spend your day that wine tasting followed up by a spree of impulse jewelery purchases! This place is a great way to end the day (of course after a glass of something bubbly to end the day first) All of the items are fair trade and really look like one of a kind finds you just won't see everyone else wearing. Plus the prices are very reasonable! They also have clothes, crafts and other items for sale as well. read more

I come here for the jewelry (its reasonable and super cute), the trivets (they're made of magazine pages and are really neat-o), and the scarves (they're made from alpaca fur or something and are so warm and soft). Baksheesh is socially responsible shopping, too, since they're fair trade. I like how they offer you a chocolate if you don't use a bag for your purchase. Great spot for an usual gift that won't tap the bank account. I stop here regularly before Christmas to stock up on presents for others (and maybe one or two for me.) read more

Form, function and fair trade. What? We've never written a review about this place we have visited so often and have purchased a lot of great gifts and housewares from? Great store. Unusual stuff. Generally, such places have standard fare and items for sale. But this place has very unique gifts. I saw many unique items from India, which I've never seen in India. Its a great place to do some guiltless shopping, as it helps people in other countries. read more

My brother and I were street performers in front of this establishment once. Well, not really, but we bought some sick instruments and played poor executed music outside. I ALWAYS buy something super cool in here. I've gotten Guatamalan worry dolls, necklaces from Peru, and of course my drum. I can't not buy something, it's wayyyy too awesome in here. And it's unique, I get compliments on all the jewelry I buy. Although it's hard to get around - hence the docking of one star. The elders usually glare at me...I'm not sure why. But seriously, visit this place. I may even perform for you. read more

12062007 Update: - FABULOUS ornaments in stock! Other great purchases made today include: Cylinder basket made in Bangladesh ($7!); Textile hanger ($18). They also have a wonderful selection of jewelry and children's toys and books. I WILL drive to Sonoma just to visit this store alone. Three rooms of fun shopping! ====== Great store with handcrafted gifts from the "developing world." They're a fair trade retailer and their prices are incredibly affordable. You'll definitely find unique gift items here. There's something about the political correctness of being a fair trade establishment that makes it quite easy to shop here - even if you know you really don't 'need' anything... read more

We decided check out Sonoma area since we were out there for the Infineon Raceway. We've been to many wineries in Napa but we've never really gone to Sonoma area. Thanks to yelp, the most popular ones were in downtown area. I was so excited to check out Baksheesh - FAIR TRADE, HAND MADE & DECENT PRICE. I was crazy about their earrings but I decided to browse around. Soon I found cute dresses for little ones. Handmade baskets, scarfs, toys... you name it! They have everything handmade. So beautiful! Some are not cheap but I would say it's worth it. It was Sunday so we had to head home - work day Monday! My hubby promised me to come back here again & bought an earring for me. The coolest thing was that they offered chocolate if I don't take a bag. =) What a great idea! I love this place. I wish I live here =) By the way, the downtown was beautiful, especially the park in the middle which reminded me of east cost. read more

I always loved this place as a kid. Brian and Candi are wonderful people, and I can't think of how much this place influenced me when I was younger towards appreciating the cultural diversity of the world. everything about this place IS perfect--the atmosphere is a 5 star rating alone. I LOVE the sound of the Colombian/Cuban/Brazilian music playing, the brown walls with earthy tones--the colors match everything perfectly. I can't tell you how beautiful this store is unless you see it yourself. but the actual goods are great too. the music is great, I have a cook book from there, and the coconut soap smells wonderful. Best of all? The people who manufacture the goods in the developing world get to see alot of the profit returns, which is an absolute bonus. read more

A very lovely store -- buy something and you recognize that you're directly impacting the person who made the item! It reminds me of "back-in-the-day" Cost Plus (right down to the smell): all sorts of unique bags and purses, scarves, jewelry, foodstuffs, soaps, and home decor. Plus beautiful blankets made from saris; creative and attractive pillows; and beautiful paper items (including hand-made cards). My favorite items included the nativity sets, which are at the very back of the store. They also had some very cool Christmas ornaments. The icing on the cake: Instead of a shopping bag for my purchase, I opted for a small fair-trade chocolate, which was SUPER good! (They sell them as well.) But, if you spend over $75, you receive a free fabric tote. If you are in the square, and you're looking for a unique gift or souvenir (or you're just interested in browsing), this shop is definitely worth a peek. The items are inexpensive relative to their creativity and quality. Do stop in! read more

What an amazing store!! When I pooped in and spoke to the girl at the register she informed me that they buy everything from artisans in third world countries and pay them fair wages... I don't even know what to say about this store. I visited this shop on Dec 23rd and I would have to agree with the review that the items are wonderful. The staff is HORRIBLE - if I could give it less than a star I would. I frequently visit Sonoma and other small towns up north and love spending my money on hand crafted artisan items but more importantly spend money in stores that are local. The store was getting ready to close and we had about 15 minutes when we walked in to browse. I had mentally selected which items I would buy as gifts and was notified by the lady that they were closing in 2 minutes. I think it's utterly crazy that with the economy and the fact that it was holiday shopping season, someone would ask you to leave b/c they have to close now. UM OK there were about 15 people in this shop. That kind of "customer service" is unappealing. The rest of the stores in the Sonoma square closed around the same time, none of them asked us to leave even though it was closing time or beyond it. read more

I really like this store - Member Fair Trade Federation, certified green business - what's not to love? I especially am a fan of their selection of earrings, from vastly different countries and in a rainbow array of colors. Will come back next time I am in Sonoma. read more

Ohhhh, I love this store. It may even be one of my favorites in the entire Greater Bay Area. I first visited here 5-6 years ago with one of my best friends, and was so impressed by the variety of goods offered. Also, it's arranged in a very aesthetically pleasing manner -- usually by color/size. The presentation leads to a very enjoyable experience -- and the owner was extremely nice. Definitely a must-stop if you're in downtown Sonoma. read more

Fabulous!! I literally wanted to buy EVERYTHING!! When you walk into the store directly to your right will be a section of hand-made stationary. This isn't your everyday, boring, average kind of stationary, this stationary is made from elephant dung...yep you heard me - elephant dung. They're called "Ellie Pooh". It's incredible, each card has a unique design. My friend bought one and instead of giving it to someone she's going to keep it for herself and frame it. That's how awesome they are. The jewelry section is phenomenal. Earrings, cuff bracelets, necklaces and rings. They have it all. The prices vary between $3 to $30. My favorite part was when I bought my earrings the girl at the register asked me if I would like a bag or a chocolate! How great, right? Of course I went for the chocolate...screw the bag! I was really looking forward to checking this place out and I'm so glad I did. Now every time I'm in dwntwn Sonoma, I'll have to swing by. read more

Having just gotten back from India, I can say that this place has done a good job of finding the nicer items for sale in that country and importing them at a reasonable mark up. The Hemophilia Foundation of Northern California did a fundraising event here and it was very successful! They had free coffee samples and a beautiful sign outside to let customers know about the event! Fair trade, beautiful jewelry, scarves, home items and children's books- I am loving this place! Some of the items are priced a little high, but overall you can pick up a few goodies as gifts or for yourself at reasonable prices. Amanda and Lucy were awesome! They watched my bag for me behind the register and started a little pile for all the treasures I wanted to purchase so I could shop freely. I will definitely return! read more
