I loved this dark green coat, but live on the east coast and knew it would be difficult to carry it back with me. The owner offered to ship it, and it arrived within the week with the nicest thank you letter! Talk about above and beyond. The old lady that was running the register stared at me almost the entire time as I tried on shoes. It was a little unsettling. Not a dealbreaker though. She also started to come behind me and try to peer at my phone midway through the experience. I was reading about the shoes I was trying on. When she saw my screen she told me to ask her any questions if I had any, but when I did she became marginally irritated. I asked her, "What model shoe is this?" To which she replied she didn't know and that she was with a customer already. Okay, why did you tell me to ask you if I had questions then? Also, the customer in question had paid before I walked in, and had been shooting the breeze with the clerk about his kids. When I asked to try on a different color she was happy to grab them, but when I tried on the first set again she remarked, "You didn't like those, remember? That's why you asked for the other color." I told her I was just taking my time, but she didn't seem thrilled, and went back to staring at me. At some point I mentioned that these boots, made by Redback, only come in whole size lengths, with the half sizes denoting a change in width, not length. She insisted I get the half size up for "longer length" anyway, with no clue what I was talking about. All in all, I chalk it up to a difference in generations. She was crabby, yes, but she is old. She tried to constantly engage and violate my screen privacy, yes, but she didn't come from a generation that drew those boundaries. In the end, the prices are totally fair and that's what really counts. Although I will add that they had a ton of poly blended shirts, but I was really hoping they would have some nice cotton twill or poplin, which seems odd given the elevated aesthetic they are going for.

For a small store McCaulou's has a pretty good selection. It's mostly casual and leisure attire. Yet for summertime, the store carries brands like Champion, Columbia, Still Water and Tommy Bahama. To me most of the styles are plain, yet one can do lots of mix and match for an outfit. Perhaps, because my thoughts lately have been wandering off and imagining what it would be like to vacation at an exciting getaway place like the French Rivera, I looked for a complete matching outfit. And I found one by Salty Crew. Cool, a bit contemporary but classy. I was thinking...Something to wear not only poolside but also befitting at a nice hotel's lounge and cocktail bar. Will I be able to get away to Europe this year and bask in the sun at St. Tropez? Probably not! But it's nice to be able to dress like I'm ready to go there.
