My husband and I were wondering downtown Napa during a recent trip and decided to wander into…read moreAntiques on Second. Now I am not really the antique type of person, but short of writing a "retail" review, my husband and I found this place fun "entertainment.' A bit unassuming from the front door, but this place just seems to go on and on with so much simply to look at and see. A bit looking for the unexpected treasure and a bit simply entertained by looking into cases and on shelves that simply have so many things, we loved this store. The shelves and cases were not dusty and the store is clean and organized for having so much "stuff." The staff is readily available and the ambiance and lighting is bright and cheery. What a nice store! Be it killing time while wandering downtown Napa or an antique junkie and you love the hunt, I would absolutely encourage people to drop in.

My mom and I enjoyed browsing the antiques but unfortunately, our experience was made uncomfortable…read moreby one of the employees. She followed us around the store and continuously watched us as we browsed. Every room that we stepped in, she would follow closely behind and pretend that she was browsing. She never greeted us or asked if we needed help, which made it feel like we were being treated as though we were there to steal rather than simply shop. Being watched so closely the entire time made the experience feel awkward and unwelcome. I completely understand that they need to keep an eye on merchandise, but there are much friendlier ways to do that. A simple "Hi, welcome in! Let me know if you need help" would have broken the ice and made us feel like valued customers rather than suspicious people being monitored. It's unfortunate because the store itself has some really interesting things to look at, but service makes a big difference in whether you actually want to stay and browse. The other staff were lovely.

I've been going to Dovetail Boutique Consignment since its initial opening. I absolutely love this…read moreconsignment shop. Beautifully decorated! Once a week, usually, I go there, as they always have new items, plus, their prices on items are respectfully honest. After reading the negative reviews, I feel I should stand up for this beautiful consignment shop. The reason being I had my own business on the coast for five years. I started out with all my own items. My mom who lived in Colorado would send me boxes of things to sell. She called them care packages and she never wanted a penny for them. The shop did fantastic in the beginning, but when I started doing consignment for people, I didn't realize how tough it was going to be. I was the only employee in the beginning and there were days, I was so exhausted that I had to close my shop on the days that I was open. That was the hardest part knowing I was disappointing customers. People would leave things outside in front of my shop door and some of it was trash. Yet, there were people who donated items they didn't want money for just to keep me going. These are memories I treasure. I wish people would understand that we have a limited amount of shops like this in NAPA and they're all wonderful. And we have lots and lots of people who want to earn money on their items as times are hard- my point being on this is ..we are willing to get rid of and to let go of our items. Yes, there were glitches in the beginning and ever since I have seen a 100% improvement in Dovetail Consignment Boutiques. I have brought them hundreds and hundreds of feet of bubble wrap to help them package items that are precious to customers that they have purchased.. No one realizes that have never had a shop like this to understand how really, really tough it is and I think they have been vigilant in working out and correcting the issues and problems developing this wonderful store. It takes great patience, perseverance, blood sweat, and tears to meet the Public expectations and demands. I wish people were more patient and understanding. I will always support this shop. As well as the other's in shops in town. This comes from my heart and I wish the reviews weren't as negative as they've become because they don't deserve it. Thank you for reading this. I hope it helps the shop and the customers..

This is an interesting consignment shop, just off the main shopping area in Napa. I make a point…read morewhen I'm in town, to deviate a few blocks over to check out their ever changing and unique selection. While there's a little bit of everything here, I've often found some really cool mid century modern pieces here. Prices aren't outrageous and staff is always very friendly. Last weekend they started adding Christmas items, so they do rotate pieces, seasonally. Always a favorite shop when I'm in the area.

They'll…read moreannounce all sorts of special events, but the big one that I like is the 50% off everything in the store event. They do this periodically. With a sale like this, prices plummet so precipitously that I end up buying oddball items like mason jars just because I want the lid for my much bigger and more useful mason jar at home. I thought I knew the store pretty well, but I was wrong. There were all sorts of little sections that I had overlooked in my previous visits. I found a little set of bins, loaded with useful supplies for some of my favorite but more obscure hobbies. I was really really impressed by the coffee table that was priced at $.85. That is correct cents. This was so unbelievable that I checked the price tags three times. Unfortunately, it didn't fit my car, it doesn't match any of my decor and it doesn't fit my spaces. Oh well There are some sections, such as the stationary area that are so reliably overstocked that I don't even bother to visit office supply stores or check out Amazon before I shop here. In fact when I wanted to measure an item, I wished I had bought a tape measure. But then it occurred to me that the overstocked stationary area would probably have lots of rulers. Problem solved. For once, I arrived early enough that I could donate. I've been diligently collecting my donations and missing the donation times for almost a year. It pays to sign up for the mailing list because they will unexpectedly shut down donations because they no longer have any storage. This has happened to me multiple times until I wised up and got the emails. I rummaged over enough stuff, lost track of time, and finally snapped out of it when my stomach told me to go home. In spite of the attractive sale,, it was not overcrowded. It was still comfortable and gave you plenty of space to look at items and try to figure out what some of the more obscure objects were. I didn't actually end up buying very much. But clearly the fun was in the treasure hunt.
