Community projects thrift is actually a very good thrift shop. It's well rounded. It has many categories of products, such as clothing for both men women and children. A selection of China that ranges from vintage/high-quality to more ordinary items with high kitchen value. I've certainly purchased my share of mixing bowls and measuring cups. The clothing is a little bit more hit and miss. I tend to show up when the entire store is 50% off and by the time you do that the store has been picked over. So my impression of the clothing area is worn with very unexciting brands. The book section isn't too bad. I'm a big fan of cookbooks and gardening books. There was actually a quite decent selection of both. But let's face it my home library of both has a better than decent selection. I always succumb to the fabrics. I can't resist something beautiful no matter how tiny the swatch. The stationary section is usually quite useful. I'm always running out of a little bit of this and that and this particular section always has a little bit of this and that. Usually, I run into at least one appliance where I think I might need it, but not right now, but the price is so compelling that I'm tempted to buy it just as a backup. However, space considerations put a quick stop to this type of thinking. The truth is, I always find a lot of stuff that is very compelling, but I'm unable to buy it because I have no place to store it. On the other hand, I've discovered that Napa has so many outstanding thrift stores that community projects thrift is slowly fading into the background. I'm a bit sorry about this because clearly I have a soft spot for this thrift. But realistically, it's a very well, run thrift, that fits a specific niche. It will take care of a good part of anyone's Thrifting strategy. But there are thrifts that are so outstanding, that community projects clearly cannot compete. If you want a thrift that is also well rounded, but with more selection ( not necessarily better.) consider Eco thrift in Vallejo. If you want a very large thrift that specializes in furniture, dining room, supplies for renovation, home building. You need to go to Habitat for humanity ReStore. It literally has no competition. If you want extremely high-end, unique, designer clothing, and absolutely superb home accessories you must go to American Cancer discovery shop in Napa. Yes it's kind of pricey for a thrift. On the other hand, the odds that you'll find items of this quality in any other thrift are low to none. Goodwill in Napa was an eye-opening experience for me. My previous experience with Goodwill was, lack of any quality products, surprisingly high prices for well, I thought of it as crap. This particular Goodwill is extremely well stocked with clothing, primarily for men and women. The quality of the clothing beats the eco thrift, Sutter, Solano, and community projects thrift. It sure beats hunting for that one item that is of acceptable quality, style, and fit, and reasonable price. There isn't enough space for the other items that you expected a thrift. Small selection of books, almost 0 selection of furniture, tiny selection of electronics, even the knickknacks were puny. I was surprised by the amount of luggage. Some of the pieces were actually kind of desirable except I have all the luggage I need. All in all I would not bother with this thrift except to hunt for some nice clothes. I love the Echo Shop in Saratoga. The major reason why I hardly ever buy clothing at any other thrift is because of the Echo Shop. My wardrobe is completely stuffed with clothing that I adore. Just fair warning, first I became a customer, then I became a donor, then I volunteered, and then they elected me to the board. So obviously, I am deeply invested in this store. And for those of you who are either on a super tight budget or just love, amazing bargains, go to the Sutter Solano thrift in Vallejo. It's pretty small so the selection is limited, but the prices are the lowest I have ever seen. Ok, this Thrift Shop is in Downtown Napa, it was quite busy on a Saturday. Parking be a little challenging but worth walking a block or so. Super friendly staff. My wife found two flannel shirts that are of great quality and will be warm during our chilly weather. Pricing was fair, my guess is 50% off of retail. It's a not a big shop like a Goodwill or Salvation, but it's larger the a boutique Thrift Shop. 1st room is mostly clothing, second room is books, dvds, CDs , houseware and electronics. This thrift store is located near downtown Napa. They do have a small lot next to them, which is also where you donate your goods. Otherwise you'll be hunting for street parking. Once inside, the building is divided into two rooms. The larger room houses, all the clothing, glassware, jewelry and shoes. The small room is given over to books, housewares, furniture, bedding, toys, knickknacks, and more glassware. Everything is well laid out and merchandised with plenty of room to walk around. I usually only go here Wednesday mornings when they first open so I can only really speak for that day but they have a great selection! This place runs like a well oiled machine. Everyone is friendly and helpful! It's very clean and they seem to do a really good job vetting their donations. I rarely find anything with stains or rips. It's always very busy first thing Wednesday mornings because it is the first day of the week they are open. I would imagine after that it's pretty picked through but I have heard that they constantly restock. Best thrift in Napa by far! I also love that the proceeds stay in our community! read more

Not a kid friendly store. When we go to the thrift stores and have our two small kids pick a toy and they usually stand or are right next to us as we browse the store. We have gone to so many stores and never had an issue. The kids were playing with toys that made loud noises. The lady at the register yelled out Kids, kids several times like they were bothering her. There was nobody around my kids, they weren't touching anything else but the one single toy that they each had. My husband over heard her say she didn't want our kids to play here. I didn't understand the reason and when I went up to her a few minutes later she apologized but still didn't answer when I asked her what the issue was. This made me feel very unwelcome and to tell you the truth in these times i consider the brown color of our skin. read more

All their proceeds go to local charities like college scholarships and organizations that empower girls and low income children with summer camp s. I think I found my new favorite thrift store. It ticks off all the boxes on my list: -Great inventory -Reasonable prices -Clean store -Helpful and professional staff members I stopped in here yesterday afternoon 15 minutes before closing time and discovered it was 50% off all clothing and shoes through this Saturday. I grabbed a couple pairs of jeans ($4 and $5 each with the discount) and two indoor plant potters ($1 each). I loved how there was a pretty big book section, a section for arts and crafts supplies (with fabric!) and even a seasonal section with Halloween costumes. I wish the hours were extended so I could visit on a weekday without taking time off of work. But oh well. I'll definitely be back. Bonus: There's also a dedicated parking lot. read more

This thrift store is comprehensive meaning that there's something for everyone. I particularly liked their home goods section where I saw a lot of great dishwares but didn't buy any because I just don't have the space. Most of the men's and women's clothing is geared toward a mature audience. As the weather gets chillier in the evenings, a plethora of scarves will keep you warm! Everything is priced reasonably. I saw a really cute teddy bear wearing a plaid vest and hat for $1! I seriously thought about buying it! I ended up purchasing a crossbody genuine leather purse with a unique front, got a couple of compliments from the staff as I was paying for the item. All the staff are volunteers and very nice. One of them told me that proceeds go to various non-profits throughout the community. I stopped by here today for the first time and I was really excited because I've heard a lot of great things about this thrift store. But overall, I'm not sure if I'll be returning they had a lot of wonderful items, but the reason why I gave this place only two stars is because an employee made me feel quite uncomfortable. I was walking through the aisles. I overheard someone greet and even offer a basket to another customer I turned and the same employee that greeted another customer looked at me in a really strange manner did not greet me just gave me a funny look that made me feel quite uncomfortable and walk right past me. If you are an employee facing new customers on a daily basis, each one of those customers should be treated the same way as all the other ones for this reason. I'm not sure if I'll be coming back definitely needs to improve on the customer service aspect at least by that specific employee. read more

We came for the NAPA marathon, the weather is in the 50's and we need some clothes to wear in the early morning on the shuttle to the starting point. And also, need to keep warm while waiting in line. Most importantly, warm clothes that we can toss on the track and forget about it. This place has what we needed. Welcome to the biggest darn thrift shop you've ever seen. First, nab a convenient parking space in our private lot, then come through the side door into our bargain housewares section. Things may look a bit jumbled, and sometimes we've been picked over pretty well, but there can be some hidden treasures if you're patient and persistent. You know...like that $3.50 like-new blender you just picked up. Good find! Past the housewares section in this same room are the books. These are much better organized than the housewares so you can go straight to the mystery section if that's your cup o' tea. Or the romance novels. Not that I read those myself...I'm just saying. *coughs nervously* Anyhow, next walk through that big doorway there...into the next room. It's HUGE, right?! The soaring ceiling makes the room feel even bigger. We've got clothes over here to your immediate left, and accessories to your right. Keep walking and you'll run into the section where we keep the "fancy" stuff, like fine china, crystal, and other "nicer" home goods. You'll find seasonal items here too. We've got multiple registers so there's never a long wait to check out. Speaking of which...don't forget to check us out next time you're in Napa! I love coming here. I only just moved to Napa about 5 months ago, and this has been my main go to for inexpensive gifts and gags. The people who work here are very nice & helpful, especially the cashier ladies. It may be a little disorganized, but they have some real neat items. Community Projects is a revered institution in Napa. It's a short walk from the Nations Burgers, the ABC Bakery, and the Uptown Theater. While the lot is small&gets crowded quickly, you can park in public lots as well as side streets. I had a bunch of new, unused handbags&purses that I needed to get off my hands. A Napa institution and for good reason! I always check here before buying anything new (fabric, sewing and knitting supplies, clothing, pots and pans, furniture, home goods, you name it) and more often than not I find what I need at a better price and of higher quality than I could anywhere else. The staff members (mostly volunteers) are helpful and personable. The store is very well organized and clean with lots of turnover in merchandise, so check back often if you don't at first find what you need. It's also a great place to donate high quality used items to give back to the community. 30 years later I still remember how my elementary school received a fancy new copy machine thanks to a grant from Community Projects! Last week I was in just looking around and a young lady (Dominique I believe) who works there, I see her often, came up and said hello and said she had hoped I was coming in soon! She has picked up on my most commonly shopped for items and told me that a set of mason jar candle holders has just been placed on the shelf and they made her think of me! My aunt heard about this place a few years ago from a AAA guide book to Napa. Ever since she had read about this far away magical thrift store, she's been planning a trip here. I'm unsure what sort of picture they painted in the guide book, but my aunt was severely disappointed and I was just a bit disheartened. My aunt complained about the lack of variety. I thought the hand bag selection was one of the best that I've seen. The shoes section of the store was weird: they only had one shoe out on the shelves. I'm not sure if you had to take a shoe to a sales person and ask for them to find the other shoe or if they only accept donations of one shoe. FYI, the shoe selection wasn't that great. The selection of clothes and hand bags could draw a hipster crowd. Unfortunately I was unable to find anything in my size since I am a hippierster. Obviously there are no fat people in Napa. The thing that's great about this place is that all the same types of clothing (i.e. women's dresses, women's t-shirts, women's pants, paperback books, hardcover books) all cost the same price and the prices are clearly marked above the items. Near the entrance of the store, they have a list of the daily sale items. The women who work here a senior citizens. As such, I treat my elders with respect. I even let some old woman cut me in line to buy $2.18 worth of stuff. She explained to me that she had a long day and that she had been working since 9; at that time it was 11:15. I wasn't gonna argue. I only ended up buying three paperbacks, but I felt okay with it. The paperbacks were $0.50 each. The ladies who work here are SO rude! I approached two employees and they literally made me stand and wait while they finished their conversation for about 3 mins. I've been here several times and I've never once been greeted or even smiled at. They are always rude! They had a nice front window display and I wanted a few items from it. They usually have a sign out saying when they will sell the items but they didn't this time so I went in to buy some of the things. When I asked to purchase some of the items they were very rude and actually told me no. "someone" was supposed to put a sign up. Well they didn't! And they still refused to sell me even one item. The lady I spoke to decide to pawn me off on someone else and I had to go through the whole conversation again... With the sane results. they wouldn't sell me anything. More or less I thought this was a STORE and the point is to SELL things! They wouldn't let these items go for anything! They act high and mighty. Its not like they are the only thrift store in town. Wow! Dive into one of my favorite thrift stores around. Interestingly enough, this building used to house an indoor swimming pool. I still lament the beautiful vintage prints that I once saw here. They were out of my budget, but I haven't stopped thinking about them and its been years! I'm sure that a local interior designer snatched them up as soon as she saw them. I usually love coming to this thrift shop. Always greeted very nicely. We came in at 4:20 pm. Which yes I know they close at 4:30 but we usually have our same spots we check out. We walked in not even all they way in the door and we get told "we're closing in 5 min." Okay that's fine,you actually close in 10 min. But I get it,end of the day,you're tired. That's fine I just wanted to look at the toy case. Got to the case,there was an employee standing in front of it,literally watching me trying to see around her to see the case. "Do you want something out of there?" Ummm,I can't see anything but okay,long day I still understand. THEN she went ahead and said "you should've came in earlier" Still not having an attitude I said "I came as soon as I got off.... she went ahead and "that's too bad" OKAY. And to top it off there was another young lady (employee) that just laughed when she said that. Tried to pick up a carpet and visited 3 times about the same carpet because they weren't ready to show the item. Most staff were very nice but the manager was very controlling and changed the price on me by $50 while being unprofessional during the process. I refused to buy the carpet after all this and just tried to donate some items and after all this they refused items like a wall mount and shoe racks. Will not be going here anymore. I am an elderly woman and I entered the shop at about 9 am , I was rushed at , yelled at that they had too many people in the store and I was to wait outside. It really scared me. I did not know I had to be invited in. It used to be a happy, friendly place. I have not been there for over a year and I will not ever return. What happened to the kind staff? DISABLED PEOPLE BEWARE!!!! Although this is an interesting and well organized store, I was told to leave when I brought my Service Dog in with me! I understand that some people misuse the claim of a Service Dog. However, I am a Commissioner on the County of Sacramento Disability Advisory Commission and well-schooled in the ADA and how Service Dogs are determined. The staff there, in particular Darlene, was rude, told me to leave, my Service a Dog was NOT allowed in the store nor were strollers of ANY kind. My Service Dog is a miniature Long-Haired Dachshund whom I put into a stroller for two logical/medical reasons: 1. I use the stroller for stability instead of a walker or a cane; 2. It is unsafe for my CERTIFIED Service Dog to be on the ground where people could either step on her or trip over her. In addition, on warm summer days, the sidewalks are frankly TOO hot on which to safely place a dog. Nevertheless, I was RUDELY told to leave and when I asserted my rights as a disabled person and refused to leave, this Darlene person continued to ridicule me and make fun of me for putting my dog in a dog stroller (NOT a child stroller). My husband and I have traveled all over the world with my Service Dog. We recently returned from a 16 day Hawaiian cruise that included my Service Dog. In order for my Service Dog to travel with us, she MUST be perfectly behaved. NO EXCEPTIONS!! When I spoke to the President about this is issue, she blew me off and treated it as though it was of no import. So, if you care about persons with disabilities, think TWICE before shopping here. IF I choose to go back to this store, I WILL bring my Service Dog with me and I WILL have my Service Dog in a stroller. If Community Project chooses to call Law Enforcement, then I guess it will escalate to the Court. My husband is an attorney. I am a Certified Paralegal and a Commissioner on the Disability Advisory Commission and this discrimination and FAILURE to provide a reasonable accommodation may well effect Community Project Thrift Store's ability to remain in business.
