The tailoring service at Art Lewin is attentive and impeccable. So far, I have taken in two garments that have been altered to fit my very unique measurements, and have been assuaged by the results. I will definitely be retirning to get more garments tailored.

Had my first consultation on 05/12/22 to discuss a custom 2 piece bespoke suit at the *base* price of roughly $2500. This option included a custom shirt, tie or bowtie complimentary with a turn around time of 4-6 weeks. Additional costs added to the base price for premium material choice and I'm sure for some detailing and alteration for a total price in the range of $3-4K. Seemed reasonable considering the custom fit, lifetime repair/adjustment option, and expected 10 year lifespan of the suit with proper care. I planned on attending a wedding 06/22/22 and scheduled to meet with Art at his downtown SD location. This was my very first experience in purchasing a suit. I had perviously gone to multiple men's suit places and as a woman, it was very difficult to find the right fit. Even with tailoring it was obvious that women were not their main customer base so of course everything just felt off. The material for each suit I tried on felt so synthetic and unfit. For this reason, I decided to go all in and invest in a custom made suit. My first meeting with Art was fantastic. We talked about my expectations and he was very thorough with all the suit details. Art was very professional and even measured me himself. It was extremely apparent that his experience and expertise was exactly what I had been looking for. He was super reassuring and even gave me his direct number since it would be a bit of a tight turnaround. I reached out again via email on 06/03/22 and got a response the very next day regarding my suit status- which was 7-10 days out. I was scheduled for my first fitting on 06/21/22. The suit looked amazing in the garment bag, but when I tried it on for the first time I instantly knew Art had given me the masterpiece he had promised. The jacket required one final alteration, which Art himself recommended. He could have let me walk right out the door but instead he showed me his integrity and the high caliber standard to which he held his brand. I agreed with his recommended alteration and he told me he would have the entire suit pressed and overnighted to me since my event was the very next day. To be completely honest, I was not thrilled at the idea of shipping as it would leave too big of a risk in my opinion. I believe that Art could sense that I was a bit displeased and he actually was able to catch me on my way out and schedule for me to pick it up the very next morning. Aside from the fact that it fit like a glove, I love that the suit material felt of high quality and was incredibly breathable. Which is something very important to me as I tend to run hot. I love the detailing that went into the pattern inside the jacket and that I was able to have my initials on the sleeves of the shirt and full name on the inside of the jacket. Nothing felt off (oversized/boxy/saggy or too tight) and my confidence was soaring. Thank you so much for this great first time experience, Art and team. I can't wait to do more business with you in the future!

Marcos took care of all of the alterations on my dress perfectly!

The manager of the store refused to let the bride try on dresses because of a 6-month rule! (Basically your wedding can't be more than 6-months away) It was the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard! Lol Anyway, although the location/selection of the shop is impressive for dtla, I would 1000% NOT recommend this store. There are several stores that carries higher end selections -- this store carried the cheap versions but their "new rule" is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. Haa 9 months out is not unusual to look for a wedding dress as you need to set the tone of the wedding. I wasn't going to argue -- dresses like theirs are a dime a dozen down there so we just left. She found a nice dress 5 stores down so their loss. Very disappointing as an event stylist, as I have brought/sent several clients in to purchase dresses from this establishment... not no more. Of course their attitude changed a bit when they saw that I was with them and not 4 young girls alone.... not sure if the sales team thought a set of girls were trying on wedding dresses for fun in the shithole of LA.... news flash, people only go there to find a deal haa. As an event stylist, my advice is to try other small stores in dtla before this one. Pretty much all stores carry the same dresses anyway-- we found the same styles approx $25 cheaper elsewhere, sales reps were very accommodating (although the sales girl at Trendy looked mortified when the older asian manager told me the aforementioned) and the other store threw in alterations of the bodice/sleeves included -- SCORE! My bride really only needs to pay for a hem and bussle so the new bridal shop saved her more, more, more!! Will NEVER have one of my young brides be embarrased & feeling discriminated against. Shame on them....

Tl;dr: If you have a thing for clothes and want to experience the "best of the best" (in every…read moreregard), Jerry and Ivan at JB Clothiers are the guys to see. Period. From the first call to the final fitting - and their post-delivery followup - every aspect of my experience with them was aces. In too much detail: Absolutely fantastic in every regard - JBC isn't merely the finest tailoring Los Angeles has to offer - it's literally a "Destination Clothier." This is going to be a long review - but then again I had a really wonderful experience, and in so many ways, that I can't sum it up quickly. Personal background - I have 25 years' experience selling exotic cars to very high net worth clientele in Los Angeles, and I am very aware of a what a luxury experience looks and feels like. So I sort of walked in the door "loaded for bear." My other experiences had the veneer of luxury, but not the substance of luxury nor the quality of product. A glass of wine doesn't overcome the fact that the end result is a disappointment. Anyway - I could no longer find clothes "on the rack" that were made of fabrics I wanted (sport coats and suits in particular). I had tried two "made to measure" clothing stores (Suit Supply and Indochino) and been disappointed with the results, so I searched for a literal in-Los Angeles custom tailoring service (where I could consult *directly* with the tailor - not just an on-site rep for a tailor half a world away). After much deliberation, I made an appointment with JB. I must admit I was somewhat skeptical by this point, when I arrived for my first consult, even after all my investigation. The feel of JB Clothiers is EXACTLY what I was hoping to find when I walked in for my first consult. After meeting Jerry (the founder/proprietor) and his partner Ivan, I had great confidence that my research had paid off. The conversation about what I was looking for and how they could achieve it was quite in-depth (and I actually learned a few things about my taste). Jerry and Ivan suggested subtle ways of "expanding my taste envelope" while still well within my taste bandwidth. There are myriad choices to make - and with each one I was getting more excited to see the end result. The measuring process was thorough and precise, having me adopt different postures and re-measuring many times. I was there for the better part of an hour. About a month later, Jerry called to set up the first fitting appointment. I about died when I saw my coat for the first time. It's gorgeous and not so much a coat, as a garment, I think. The details are exquisite - and they are everywhere, beyond the special embroidery you'll be offered. It is quite literally a work of art. We tried it on, and made various adjustments, and I left not sure I'd be able to wait until it came back. Long story about how I Dunning-Kreuger'd the first alterations, which were literally put back on the 2d fitting. Sorry I wasted your time, guys. But by this time, I was so hooked on both the product and the experience, that I added a matching pair of slacks to the coat, turning it into a 2-Piece Suit. Going back the third time, I picked up the pants - they are not only gorgeous with the same attention to detail as the coat, but they fit me unlike any pants I have ever owned IN MY LIFE. They are utterly incredible. Fantastic! At the last fitting all of this was immediately and obviously worth every penny and every second of time. And admittedly, I'd added considerably to the time by the alterations I thought I wanted in the first fitting. I have tried this suit on with nearly every shirt/tie combo I can put together - it it so wonderful! This experience was very much a splurge for me - and I plan to do it again as soon as I can. Yes - I spent about 50% more than I would have for a Canali suit off the rack. But I got 5x the suit as a result. I'll never again waste money on clothing - what JB made for me is a lifetime investment, and no clothes I've ever had fit that description. Really not sure how to better convey my enthusiasm than to say I can't wait for the next time I decide to tread myself and add to my wardrobe. At the end of the day, the expenditure at JB will actually saved me in the long run - no more wasted money on clothes that are sorta "close enough" but never right. And no more wasted time trying to find them, either. Did I mention I love this suit? I love this suit! And I had a total blast along the way! Thanks guys!

This place is nice but maybe a little overrated…read more Jerry's not a bad guy and probably not a bad salesman. I thought I was coming in for a consultation, and I liked the fabrics and patterns we came up with, but he was disappointed that I was not ready to throw down $4,000 for the custom suit that day. (He convinced me that anything cheaper in his shop wasn't worth my time.) I can see why he likes to close the deal the day of. The more I thought about it, the less comfortable I felt throwing down than much for this suit... I had a few other reasons, too. Anyway, I sent a message to the store the next day, politely explaining why that I appreciated Jerry's time, but the shop wasn't for me. Jerry ended up calling me, and I wish I hadn't answered. He started trying to get me to get his cheaper stuff that had already talked me out of. He was pushy, dismissive of my reasons and all around unpleasant. I think they have some off the-rack suits available, too, and I believe they offer tailoring, but I am no longer interested. He'll probably respond to this and be dismissive again, but those are my two cents. He has a nice assistant. I won't pretend it's bad quality. Still three stars.
