Reviews were good so we came in on a Monday evening. The interior is so cute! Velvety comfy green chairs at the wine bar, smaller lounge tables and couches in the rest of the place. There is a separate room for gaming. We sat at the bar and were warmly greeted by Aria L. She was so courteous and helpful, offering us suggestions on the wines and snacks. They have a great happy hour from 4-7p for $20 wine bottle which is fantastic. The house white was good, although they ran out after a glass and I went for the Simi sauvignon blanc which was so good. The parmesan truffle fries are a MUST. Just $8.99 for a nice sized bowl of crisp, tasty fries with fresh parmesan shaved on top. MM! I had the 12" cheese lovers pizza which had burrata cheese on top oh my GOSH that is gooooood. It's rich so I had plenty of leftovers for the next day. My friend got the 12" Diavola pizza which she loved. My other friend got the Italian panini ($13.99) which he said he was not that crazy about, but he did enjoy the atmosphere and the Guiness. It is a chill place to have a nice conversation without having to compete with loud music or chatter. We are planning to revisit the next time I am here, this was a very enjoyable evening.

I had their cabernet sauvignon and it was delicious. The bread was excellent. The crust almost reminded me of a salted pretzel. The chicken meatballs were flavorful. Calamari was ok. For the 2 pastas that I got to try, the spicy rigatoni was good. Chicken vesuvio was tasty and moist. For the grand finale we had cheesecake and tiramisu. Service was excellent. Park in the orange garage as that is the closest to the restaurant. I left around 8 pm and the restaurant was busy. I definitely recommend reservations.

The space is beautiful, though the tables are... let's just say neighborly. Great if you enjoy bonding with strangers, less great if you like a little elbow room. The menu is interesting and inviting. We started with the parmesan artichokes. Crunchy and satisfying, with nice pieces throughout, but a bit shy on flavor. It felt like it almost got to the party but stopped just outside the door. For mains, everyone genuinely enjoyed their dishes. I had the gnocchi della casa with porcini ragù. The gnocchi were soft, light, and pillowy, though just a touch dense and missing that subtle potato flavor that makes you close your eyes for a second. Not quite at the level of my mom's or grandma's (but let's be honest, nothing ever is). The mushroom sauce was tasty, though it leaned slightly vinegary. The pistachio-crusted whitefish was a standout. Perfectly crisp on the outside, flaky and tender on the inside. Definitely a win. The risotto of the day was creamy and comforting, but it felt like it was missing that little spark, that "something" that takes it from good to memorable. Drinks were a highlight. The Sicilian Negroni and Fields of Tuscany were both well-crafted and delicious. No notes there. For the price, it's a solid spot and worth experiencing at least once. Come for the energy, stay for the drinks, and maybe bring your best "I don't mind sitting close" attitude.

I read one review that said the place was dark and gloomy. That is not the case at all. The food is outstanding. I had the crispy stuffed chicken. I've had this same meal (although it wasn't crispy) at 5 or so other local restaurants over the years and Mattone's was the best hands down. I tried my friend's meal, Rigatoni Contadina, and it was excellent as well. I just went here last night and I've already told a couple of friends about this place. I'll certainly be visiting again.

Mattone has a pretty standard menu of Italian food like spaghetti. A lot of the familiar. The flavors may not be as good as they used to be so just know that and it will seem like better quality. Certainly the happy hour is the best time to come. It's expensive already so save a few bucks and it makes things quite an improvement. There's a lot of what to expect on the menu. Cocktails and pasta of course. They took forever taking everyone's order and then there was even more waiting. It's about $12 for the cheapest cocktails. They have a few bucks off martinis at the happy hour thankfully. A serious lack of vegetarian choices. There's even salads covered in bacon and pancetta. Has a few weekly specials to check out. It's $20 for the classics specials on Thursdays. Among the options are lasagna and spaghetti. This also comes with a choice of soup so you get lots with this. Actually a pretty filling meal. They can make the spaghetti without meatballs and stuff. Got to say it gets busy. It's only open in evenings. There's limited options for vegetarians.

More importantly, does it offer the kind of service, ambience, and experience that would make you want more? I would say 151 kitchen and bar in Elmhurst does meet those expectations. On a recent work night celebration with colleagues, we ended up here for a nice dinner. Beautifully outfitted, the service was spot on, and the food was for the most part really good. Key points for me for the honey and ricotta with bread - absolutely excellent! I ordered the Atlantic salmon, which came on a bed of tiny potatoes and broccolini absolutely what was expected, the flavors were indicative of light seasoning, and I can truly say I loved it. Needless to say, the food was fantastic. You can see the photo of my entrée below? It looks very inviting right? And indeed it was. One of my colleagues was kind enough to let me take a picture of his chicken bowl - which is below as well - and he pronounced it as pretty good. Coming from him that is high praise, indeed! The tomato bisque soup I had as an app? Pretty delicious - the only concern I would indicate was that it was just a tad too sweet, but otherwise it was served at the perfect temperature, and really hit the spot. Nicely done! So - will I bring hubby here? Yes, I think so. Definitely a worthwhile place for him to try for sure - and I will make plans to bring him here soon.

My challenge is and why I'm giving two stars is that their food is priced on a higher side with mediocre quality. They serve lamb loins, but listed as chops. I ordered lunch all the time and I've never had two mediocre loin. I asked our great waitress of how thick were the chops and where they double boned. She led me to a manager who said you get plenty of food and dodged my question. He simply should've said we don't serve chops. I spent almost $500 for six of us. I think they're a better spot to spend your money for that amount. I did reach out via phone call and email as suggested with no return calls or email. I don't plan to go back for a high priced meal plus a 3% surcharge.

However, I'd join when you are 10 minutes away as sometimes the line goes quick and you get passed. After we are called for our seats, we wait in a small line as they prep the table. After we were seated, the staff quickly gave us water as we looked over the menu. I was not in the mood for a fancy breakfast so I went traditional, Two Eggs over medium, veggie patties (homemade), hash browns and pancakes with decaffeinated coffee with honey. The food came in a nice time, not too long and not too quick- enough to have a nice conversation while waiting. When the food came, everything was cooked to perfection. The eggs over medium, the hash browns were cooked and had that bit of crunch from the skillet. Pancakes were a nice size. And the veggie patties were tasty! The coffee with just honey hit the spot. It appears everyone else really liked their food as it was pretty quiet. Lol. I enjoy this place especially bringing family and friends from out of town. Good times and great memories.
