Consistently good, no-frills comfort food--hot dogs, pizza puffs, rings, and more done right.

Two good things from here: the Customer Service and their Chicago Dog. I ordered the Chicago Dog Combo, includes fries and a drink. I also ordered the loose hamburger (think sloppy joe without the sauce). And added a tamale. The service was great. Super friendly, easy to understand, helpful. I used the drive-thru and it was quick and efficient and their menu is easy to read. The tamale is just awful. Meat covered in breading. Nothing like a tamale. Don't get this! The loose hamburger tasted way too salty! Not sure if you can ask for no salt or less salt, but it was just terrible. The bun was also cold. Who gives cold buns with hot food? It makes McDonald's hamburgers taste like a top of the line burger! Do not waste time on this. And - when it says loose, they do mean, loose. It's messy! The Chicago Dog was the only thing I actually enjoyed. It wasn't as sloppy as some places. Maybe too much mustard, but otherwise, everything was good and went well together. The hot dogs are smaller than I remember, but still decent. The french fries though - awful. Just soggy and tasteless. I remember Arnie's to have decent crispy french fries. But if you like the soggy ones - here you go! I won't be going back - it's not worth a trip just for a hot dog when there are better options around. I think Five Guys hot dogs are already 10 X better. read more

My experience was customer services was great but the food had no taste they gave you so many plain fries just to honestly throw away

I grew up with the original Arnie's in Whiting/Robertsdale and whenever I am in Munster I like to come and get food there. For the last few times the wait time was extremely long. I don't know what is going with this place but it definitely isn't the same like it used to be. It's terrible to wait that long for a couple of hot dogs and polish. So disappointed bc I won't be stopping there again. They need more staff. read more

Chili is odd and tastes terrible and there's no cheese on the fries that was too pricey for what I received. read more

I came here from Merrillville expecting the great hot dogs I always received, instead received 2 hotdogs that the ends where hard and dry. I will never returns. read more

I came here yesterday and ordered two sausage pizza puffs, and an order of mozzarella sticks. The sausage pizza puffs were very very salty. These are the same pizza puffs that you can get at dollar tree for $1.25. But they tasted overly salty. The mozzarella sticks were good. Service was good. Drive thru was quick. read more

Food was really good! (chgo style dog and italian beef sandwiches, in particular) Employees were real nice too! I'd suggest cleaning off the dine-in tables after people have used them, and filling up the napkin containers too. read more

Wanted a mom and pop shop for Chicago dogs. This was my first time here and It is what they boast about.. Being so close to Chicago you'd think this place would know how to make one. They don't. Onions and tomatoes were warm and mushy...fries were limp and under cooked. And now I'm sweating profusely. Gonna stick with Portillos. read more

Born and raised here in Munster, it took me nearly five decades to try this place, one my brother frequently. In the end, it was just okay. I got what I wanted - Chicago dogs - but nothing about them made the glaringly great or better than some other places I've gone to. I did like the fries - it was my style - soft and not crisp or dry. read more

Would never recommend this place! I visited this establishment last night and the experience was terrible! After the guy took my order he immediately went to prepare my food... with his bare fuckin hands! I only ordered a hotdog and this idiot actually grabbed the hotdog with his dirty ass fingers and placed it in the bun which he was holding with his other dirty ass hand... fucking disgusting! I told him to either put on gloves and remake it or give me my money back. Mind you this idiot never washed his fuckin hands not one time! I got home and didn't even eat the shit straight in the trash! They got 5$ out me but never again! And he even said they don't wear gloves... what kind of place is this! Just nasty!! read more

Negative issues: ordered double-dog and polish. We both took 2 bites and the taste was awful. Poorly made, ton of relish, onions, and mustard, buns fell apart...after scraping off condiments, meat still tasted bad. We trashed food after 3 bites. Cola was somewhat flat. Positive: service was fast, fries were ok. They immediately offered a refund but we refused because we wanted to make a point that it was the taste of the food that caused our dissatisfaction. read more

This Review is for Thursday October 15, 2020. so today we did not have such a great experience as the last 4 or 5 times that we have been hear. Honestly not sure if they have new employees or if their is some sort of an issue with serving food here with portion wise. I usually give 5 starts for service and food based on portions, flavor, and etc. Today we ordered the following: 1 order of chili cheese tator tots 1 order of the shrimp basket 2 orders of beef sandwiches 2 orders of funnel fries 2 orders of corn dogs So the funnel fries were on spot as they should be. The shrimp basket is as we had expected it to be for fast food, not a bit issues but it is fast food establishment so we should not have expected anything great. The corn dogs were not great, but not bad either. The problem was with the chili cheese fries, I am unsure if we maybe got someone else's order they did not want or what because when you see the picture I took, it looked as if the chili was sitting out as it looked dry, sadly not as flavorful as it has always been when we would order a chili dog. Our beef sandwich were not dipped what so ever, they were 100% dry, and the meat portion was very stingy for what we payed for. Te last 5 times we had been their they dipped the bread / sandwich and it was all flavorful, the meat portion was nice too, but not sure what happen with our order this time, I am honestly unsure if we will be back after this issue. I guess depend how desperate we are for beef sandwich or hotdog. read more

45 MINS for a hot dog and fry combo.. called in the order waited 20 mins to show up, stayed in the drive through for 15 mulore mins and was STILL TOLD THERE WOULD BE A WAIT. When I mentioned that it was pretty ridiculous of a wait time the cashier offered a refund and the cook offered his loud rude opinion. never again. read more

This place is a joke! I have to pay extra for tomatoes to top my polish sausage? Oh wait, you mistook a hotdog for a polish because that was definitely not a polish I had. Or did your vendor tell you these were polishes - because that was a LIE!! I also asked for sweet peppers but you apparently can't tell the difference between sweet and regular bell peppers. I've never been here before after nearly 20 years of living here. I won't be back. This was just a waste of time and money. Have to go back to Chicago for the good stuff because apparently you're just confused here!! read more

Public service announcement: do not order the beef at this place! They serve processed deli style roast beef. It's really sad...I know this isn't technically in Chicago but Munster is right across the border. They should know better. The bread was stale too. My pizza puff wasn't good either...it didn't taste like a traditional puff but rather an off brand version. read more

Don't get me wrong as I love Arnie's and have been coming here since I was a kid. True, I don't like hot dogs and can't say anything about the quality there as I would get stuff like pizza puffs, a fish sandwich, and chili cheese fries. What I liked kept me coming back. My gripe with Arnie's is how they do carry out in the evenings. I have "lunch" for my terrible job at 8:10pm and Arnie's closes their doors at 8pm but still allows drive thru service up until 9, which you're stupidly supposed to pick up your carryout at. That's fine and dandy, a clear adjustment due to Covid. During lockdown I put up with calling ahead and sitting through a couple cars taking up the majority of my lunch time in the drive thru but in 2023 won't tolerate that nonsense. The other day I called and placed a solid order at 8:10 and told them that I would be five to ten minutes, which I was. As I arrived there were six to seven cars deep in the drive thru. Am I expected to sit through all of those cars, who may or may not have ordered and could be waiting for their orders when my order should be ready? That's preposterous. I walk up to the locked doors and the workers just stare at me like I'm supposed to wait who knows how long for an order that I placed 5 to ten minutes ago. There were no signs of anyone coming to give me any kind of customer service, I'm just expected to chill in a parade of cars. It's beyond stupid. So I called and said "I'm not waiting behind six cars. Cancel my order". How is that a business decision that dumb justified? I have wasted so much of my lunch breaks for their broken carry out system. Well never again. If I have a taste for Arnie's I'll try somewhere else and just hope that Arnie's goes back to logical practices. read more

My second trip to Munster to pick up my grandson, on our way home he asked for a chili dog(he's been here before) I must say they serve an awesome "Chicago Dog" and they include French fries. I enjoyed the decor, and a very clean facility. I will be back, next time in town. Kudos to the owners, very friendly staff. read more

Arnie's "Where man bites dog" is a local institution for hot dog lovers. Personally, this was the hot dog stand I grew up on,whether hitting the drive thru for the grease soaked brown bag, or dining in under the mural of the hot dogs at camp, it was always a happy day. Lately the area around them has filled in with chains and strip malls, but if you find yoursel on Calumet and would rather support a mom and pop than fill the wallets at another chain please stop in for delicious, classic Chicago hot dog stand fare: dogs, Polish, fries, pizza puffs, tamale boats etc.. read more

The lowest grade of fast food you can ever eat. Ground beef served as a hamburger plus a frozen chicken patty for a chicken sandwich and probably the only thing that was okay to eat was their fry's and even them were bad. I think maybe the polish is keeping this establishment a float because several workers walked in and ordered that. Save your money and your time. read more

These hot dogs are GREAT. I prefer to eat those dogs PLAIN. That's right...plain! They are so juicy and tastey, I don't want to disrepect these beef franks with just simple condiments like ketchup or even mustard. Now with Grey Poupon or some other high grade deli mustard, that would be PERFECT. This is definetly where "Dog Bites Man". read more

Made a quick stop in here on our way out town in the late afternoon today. My craving for tater tots was satisfied! It was so delicious with chili and cheese on top. Plenty of chili (enough that my husband dumped his fries into my bowl to consume the remainder after I'd finished the tots). I also had a delightful corn dog. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his hot dog, which I think was a Chicago dog. I honestly don't remember because I was too busy enjoying my chili cheese tots. We live hours away, but this will continue to be a stop we make to/from Chicago. Thanks for some yummy food today! read more

Best hot dogs in town. They are almost as good as Gene n Jude's. Gotta pay then a visit soon.

Great food, good service...our family faves are the hotdogs, chili tamale, & pizza puffs! Never disappointed, frequent customer. Try it out!

Personally I love this place their hot dog and chicken sandwich are bomb!! Even tho it not the most perfect place they still try to make you feel welcome as best as they can. I don't think u realize that a lot of teenagers work here and try to do there best at getting your stuff out on time and trying to keep the place clean . Not all fast food places are perfect!. read more

It would be nice if they had staff that didn't mumble the entire time. Seriously, kids, try speaking clearly.

Yum!!! My choice to go to when I want a Hotdog, Polish or even a Pizza puff. The fries are always fried to my liking... A few times the order may have had wrong toppings on the polish. But won't stop me from coming back. Still my Favorite place to go to that is Local for me. read more

It appears to me that none of the reviewers have ever eaten a REAL CHICAGO HOT DOG. Arnies dose not even come close. There are a few places that have rel hot dogs and Arnies is not one of them. Hey Arnie where is the bright green relish, celery salt and of course the poppyseed bun. I would think about going back. The place should be shut down for a week and cleaned. While cleaning they should put in a grill. Loose Hamburgers SUCK. read more

There's just not much good I can say about the place. The beef is almost assuredly from a plastic bucket. The sausage is the most rubbery, flavorless mess I've ever eaten. Do yourself a favor and find another place to eat read more

I love this place. Their dogs are excellent (and sold only with fries included) and the whole building is very branded in customized art. The characters are murals and cartoon characters created by Arnie's Dog House. Special Note: Don't forget to try their pizza puffs. They are not like hot pockets. They are way better. read more

I felt their prices were a little high for their hot dogs. Keep in mind that they sell Vienna beef hot dogs like most places. If one is going to sell something that you can get other places then you should be market price friendly. If you're going to charge more then make it purposeful with added items to the meal like a pickle spear or something. The food is good but you can get Vienna beef hot dogs most anywhere. They don't taste any different here. I had no issues with the service. read more

The prices are pretty ridiculous. I got two hot dog meals and the buns were soggy. The fries were extremely greasy. I also don't understand why the fries are wrapped together with the hot dogs. The only thing that was good from here was the pop. I definitely won't be coming back. read more

Good beef combo sandwich. The place looks organized and clean. I will return.
