I've been going to the surplus store since I was a young teenager. Being into paintball and airsoft, the place stocked lots of gear for those hobbies. I remember buying an HFC Darkhawk GBB pistol back when Army Navy had airsoft guns. I used that airsoft gun, like played every weekend and just ran it hard. I wore the slide out and casually told Dan about it, to which he said, "I can try to polish the slide burrs out and fix it." The Darkhawk worked for a good while longer, and he didn't charge much. Dan and Marcy were always a joy to talk to, they were funny and always kept it real. The selection of gear was awesome, you could find WWII to modern era stuff. I bought many nifty army surplus stuffs like a leather flap 1911 holster, Bianchi M12 flap holster, American Optic aviator sunglasses and lots of paracord in various colors. Dan helped inspire me to join the military since he is a USAF veteran. I got to experience many adventures (good, bad and indifferent) because of this, and it was worth it all. I came by the store today after work and noticed it was closed, I'll miss it lots. But I'll always remember all the great discussions and nifty gear I got here! read more

Anyways, to give a little update to my past review, I have been to this shop 4-5 in the past week!! And bought gear on every trip. I live pretty much right in the middle of Army & Navy Surplus in Simi and Supply Sergeant in Burbank. And I go back and forth between the two. Dan at Army & Navy Surplus is really a great guy and business owner. I hate it when I walk into the store and immediately have eyes on me and salespeople pushing a sale. Dan is laid back, soft spoken and a pleasure to deal with. In the past week, I've bought shirts, patches, knives and miscellaneous other gear. Been meaning to get out here for awhile, as my faithful cammo pants needed replacing. What a clean, organized well stocked shop! Found the pants at a great price, brand new, and a perfect fit. The owners were very nice and helpful! The heat was up, but the A.C. was down and it was a tad warm inside, so we didn't stay as long as I'd have liked. Dan and Merci are owners here scince 1992. They have most things. If not they usually can get it. The best Knives in Simi Valley, survival food, ensignia items, assorted flags, uniforms etc. Sometimes they get in unusual and cool surplus stuff. If you buy something here you CANNOT return it. This store is small, not to fault the owners themselves. I've only been here once but Dan and Merci are incredibly friendly and helpful. I was wondering how to use a shemagh and she demonstrated several ways to do it. The prices aren't bad, but it won't beat wholesale for sure. We came here to get MREs and their selection, again, was limited. It's a great place to go to for basics and to browse but nothing for particulars. My husband had a birthday two days after Thanksgiving this year and my son bought him two Marine Corps covers at the Simi Army & Navy Surplus store. We were thrilled to find out there was one here in town. When my husband tried the two hats on, they did not look good, too narrow and not sitting high enough on his head, the way he likes it. Since they are close on Sun/Mon, we waited until today, Tuesday, to go in and see if he could exchange both of them. The man who met us at the door was very nice and cordial, welcoming us and offering to help if we needed it. Told him we wanted to exchange the two hats, didn't fit right, and he helped us look for some more. When we couldn't find any others, the store is pretty limited in its inventory, so we decided to look at t-shirts or maybe something he could exchange the hats for. We found a t-shirt and when we approached the counter, the woman who worked there pointed a sign to us that said "no refunds or exchanges." Who doesn't exchange a gift with tags still on them? We told her they were gifts, didn't fit right and it was a bad policy and certainly not good for business. Not a word from her! Oh well...guess we won't be patronizing that store in the future. read more

So called up looking for good pair black boots for work. Guy who answered named Dan. This guy was friendly and eager and willing to help quickly looked at the booty having stock got my sizing and found what I needed. I told him I'm heading over. When I walked into his store place was clean well organized. After I bought the boots asked about polish and knew jest what I needed. I've been going to this place for years. I love stopping by here and getting all my random needs for costuming and random projects. I love getting ammunition boxes for my jeep and storing tools and goodies inside. Anytime I need something that's awfully unique and specific, I know exactly where to go. I just got an orange jumpsuit to make a friend into an X-Wing pilot from Star Wars. And I just got an Alice backpack frame to make a Ghostbusters proton pack. Like I said, probably not what these things are intended for, but I would never go anywhere else for finding such unique and amazing items. I love this place! read more

He is good about telling you what is mil spec gear and what is not, unfortunately he has to carry both because lots of the mall ninjas don't wanna pay full price. Went just about everywhere looking for Burning Man gear with no luck but this little shop really turned out to be a hidden gem! I didn't want to resort to driving to Hollywood to get gear for Burning Man because everything over there is overpriced tourist trap... and I just about went to every single sporting goods store from Agoura to Moorpark and not one store had anything I was looking for! I needed basic dust mask, face cover, scarfs, bandannas, goggles, and some camping things. This store had options and I was able to get pretty much everything I was looking for and their prices are great! I spoke with the lady about my struggle and she said she'll note the dates of Burning Man so that next year they can stock up on even more stuff, which makes me excited to check back next year! Definitely recommend, although the shop is pretty small it was a great shopping experience, well stocked with every size available, and it felt good to support a local shop and not having to resort to checking out Walmart! 10/10 read more
