They appear to have done a great job on a small to moderate roof repair from a leaking easement on my home. They were very responsive from the Yelp inquiry and sent out someone a day or two later who seemed experienced and forthright (Dario). He was able to immediately diagnose the source of my water entry (something another company had missed or tried to upsell on diagnosing it a different way). He was willing to walk me through what he was seeing on the roof and also took photos clearly showing the issue. While he was up there, I brought two other minor issues I'd been meaning to take care of and he was happy to take photos and add them to the quote (cracked vent seal and small area of entry into the attic). They put together a formal quote and proposal within a few days and I was able to talk with one of the owners (Jason) on the phone to discuss the questions I had. He was willing to work with me on alternative (less expensive) options on one of the repairs I was requesting and walked me through the pros/cons. Felt like he really understood what I was looking for and took the time with me, even though I know it was a small repair for them. They completed the work in one day, within a week of deciding to move forward. Payment was easy and online with an immediate receipt. Price seemed fair --- bay area expensive, but worth not doing the work myself for this situation. I'd look to them first for any future work.

Typical sales scare tactics were used like telling us a leak was from condensation due to the lack of ridge vents. We have gable vents and so does every other house on the block. By his logic, every old house without ridge vents should be leaking water. I've been in my attic, there's no condensation issue. Their price for a new roof seems fair but given our roof is 12-15 years old with two leaks, it's far from needing a full replacement. They also offered no warranty if we went with a repair. He also estimated my roof to be 25 years old when my home inspection and other roofers estimated 10-15 years old.

Despite my reservations about the price, Ivan got the contract, because of his responsiveness and because I preferred communicating with him and sensed that he cared the most about doing quality work. Having lived under the burden of a defective roof for 18 years, I have learned that choosing a roofer who cares about doing quality work matters more than price. The experience with Roofing Solutions was very positive, resulting in a beautiful work of art that catches your eye even a block away. At the end of the project, as Ivan and I stood in the street admiring his work, neighbors pulled up in their cars to express their admiration. Ivan's team did a great job throughout. The only major disappointment was a large change order that drove the already very high price even higher. The issue was a lot of rotted wood that needed placement. If I noticed a stray water bottle in the bushes, which was rare, it would always disappear by the end of the workday, as would any other traces. Getting a new roof is loud! But the team was as unobtrusive as the nature of the work allowed, and they left no footprints. Every flowerpot and piece of furniture that was moved was restored to its original location. Nothing was damaged. I like that no subcontractors were used. Everyone on the roof was on Ivan's regular, permanent team. Ivan himself was there every day, which I also appreciated. He regularly texted me pictures and progress updates. I like the fact that he has a permanent team. They work well together, and 3 of them are brothers. I think with a regular, permanent team working under the watchful eye of an attentive boss who cares about his reputation, workmanship problems are less likely. You never have to remind him of anything or ask twice. Whenever I tried to remind him of something that needed to be done, the response was that it was already done. When I texted him to ask if he could give me the remote controls for the new skylights the next time he was on site, he texted back immediately that he'd send one of his guys up with them right away. And within 10-15 minutes my doorbell was ringing. Whatever else Ivan may have been doing during those 2 weeks, he always made me feel like I had his undivided attention. With a roof, the most important thing is the installation of the underlayment beneath the tiles. No matter how good a roof looks, you can't truly know the quality of the workmanship until 5, 10, or even 20 years have passed. But on the professionalism of the execution as I observed it from the ground, and on the aesthetics, Ivan's team gets an A+. And the care and attention to detail that I observed gives me confidence that the underlayment was installed correctly. I am also fully confident that Ivan takes sufficient pride in his work that if any issues were to arise, he'd address them. Since our roof was still under warranty we gave a call to Element who said they'll come take a look soon. Unfortunately, there were several scheduling mishaps on their part which led to a bad initial experience but Suzie in the office and Chad came through. They did a great job fixing the leak, and months later when we noticed a different leak around the large skylight they were on it quickly. To solve the issue correctly they even did some metal fabrication work (the large flashing surrounding the light box) which they graciously covered under the warranty. Few more months went by before we noticed what seemed like a slight damage to several shingles on the south slope where the neighbor's tree guy dropped many Redwood branches during a heavy pruning job. Element concluded the issue was ultimately cosmetic but again, kindly replaced those shingles under warranty. Finally, last week we had termite tenting done which predictably caused some shingles on the ridge line to move out of place along with other minor damages. Chad came out quickly to do a full survey using a fancy drone and in a few days Roberto and crew showed up fixing the small issues. They really didn't have to but they did this work under warranty, which was a pleasant surprise (and a big relief given all the new homeowner bills!). All in all, I highly recommend Element Roofing, especially Suzie K, Chad M and Roberto!

So, when I moved into a new home without solar I called them again. They also did a great job with our new Enphase solar system, including backup batteries, and an EV charger. The team led by Alex Padilla, with Carlos and Francisco, were great to work with. Carlos and Francisco worked in very hot conditions and still got the job done quickly and accurately. One of the things I love about Sierra installing solar is that they are also roofing experts. They are very careful about the roof integrity. Plus, they route the wiring through the attic so there are no ugly wires visible on the rooftop ... just clean, neat solar panels. Never hire a solar company that isn't also a roofing company. By coincidence, just days after going live we experienced a grid failure. The backup batteries kicked in so fast we hardly noticed that we had lost grid power!

So we got in touch with ELM Roofing and had them come out to do an inspection. Lucas was great. He identified the issue quickly, stepped us through what our options were, and kept us in the loop the entire time. He checked the roof out with a drone, since it was too high to run a single ladder up, and we got to watch the neighbor's resident hummingbirds go nuts trying to threaten it away. Evidently hummingbirds hate drones! We had our entire roof and the garage roof replaced, because the builder had cheaped out on underlayment materials and is a pain to get to fix anything under warranty. So, y'know, forget him, but this isn't a review about him. We've got a much tougher underlayment now, all the chipped tiles we had have been replaced, and it is quite honestly better than new now. They did clean work, too. Didn't mess up the yard at all, they were fastidious about noise levels and allowed work times, everything you'd hope a certified contractor would do (but do they? Well...many don't, believe me). Quick and thorough, and when the project got interrupted by rain, they kept us informed about that, too. They came out on a Saturday to get ahead of the weather and even let us know exactly what the local weekend construction ordinances were ahead of time so we'd know what to expect. I think that's what I'd say about them the most: No surprises. They don't do anything unexpected with the final invoice, they don't jerk you around, they don't treat you like you won't understand what they're doing. You're fully in the loop at all times and you're treated as a partner in the project. You get exactly the work and quality promised. And it's good work, with a 20 year guarantee. The facts are Derek quoted me almost 11 grand to fix that leak! You guys were way out of line. No other quote exceeded $3,600.00. It is my opinion that you don't want small jobs and were not the right fit for me. I'm entitled to my honest opinion and that's how I feel about it. All my roof needed was the mortar patched, and the hole fixed. There was nothing wrong with the underlayment. We checked! The company I hired patched up ALL the holes in the mortar on the whole roof and replaced 19 broken tiles in addition to fixing the leak for $3,600.00. To just fix the leak would have been $1,600.00. That is an appropriate quote for a simple leak, not what you did.
