I had used them before, it had been over a decade. They had come out at that time and Joe repaired some broken tiles for an unbelievably low price. It was around the time of the mortgage crisis and as a member of the real estate industry I really needed a break. Fast forward to the present and a similar issue. I had my niece call up some places for me and in the back of my mind had remembered Armtrout. One company wouldn't even come for repairs, another company was pushing to attack the problem from a completely unnecessary angle at an exorbitant price and calling it a "small job" not to mention waiting 1-2 weeks to come out while also even suggesting an entirely new roof. Where is the rolling eyes emoji the kids use? I can't recommend his services enough. I'm very particular about who I have do any sort of work for me whether it's on my house, car, or any service really. After Joe assessed the issue he said he could make it happen the next day and I realize this isn't always going to be the case because he's busy. However, it went above and beyond what I expected and he was more than fair with me on price. We were in need of a re-roof, gutters, gutter guards and downspouts because our roof was leaking in multiple locations. We received a couple of quotes but were not comfortable in making a commitment with either company. We then discovered Armtrout roofing through our realtor's contact. The contact shared that he's trusted Joe for the past 30 years with his various properties. I contacted Joe to schedule a visit for an estimate and he was on-site a couple days later and on time. He wore a mask and introduced himself. He then took out his ladder from his truck and suggested he have a look at the roof. I accompanied him to gain some insights. As he began to survey and take measurements of the roof, he began sharing advice and recommendations for the re-roof. In addition, he also indicated that after the project was completed, the shingles would all be aligned. I almost forgot to mention that he noticed the poor condition of the roof and suggested he could stop by before the rain began to take some precautions to prevent further water leakage (Joe's son showed up a few days later to seal any potential openings). After completing the inspection, he shared some shingle samples and discussed the pros and cons of each. He also mentioned there was opportunity to improve the attic ventilation because it was insufficient. He then provided us with a home address around the corner that he completed recently that had a new roof, gutters and downspouts. We then discussed an estimate and he indicated that he would provide one within a few days. We received an email with all the details and breakdown for costs/materials. We felt that his prices were fair and comparable. Next, we went to check out his finished work and needless to say we were impressed! After that we informed him that we wanted to move forward with the project. Once Joe finalized the weather details he confirmed the start date, within a few days he and his crew completed the project. After each day, they cleaned up and it was almost like they were never there. They installed two Velux venting skylights and even made a recommendation as to where to get them! I am going to start by saying, Wow! I have worked with a ton of contractors and Joe Armtrout is by far the best!! My adventure started with what I thought was a roof leak and I had 3 different companies assess the situation. My roof was 25+ years old so through the process, I decided to replace it to prevent future issues. Joe actually thought I had a few more years of life but definitely saw that the north side of my roof was not in good shape. I was a little stressed because another big rain was coming and Joe sent one of his guys out to patch the roof. He said if I moved forward with him it would be a wash, and quoted me a reasonable price for the repair. Weeks later, I noticed my gutter hanging off and while on vacation, Joe took my call and had the gutter reattached. By this time, I had already decided to move forward with Joe who is knowledgeable, experienced, incredibly passionate about his work and highly, highly competent. Joe did a great job in setting and managing my expectations. He thought it would take 4-5 days to replace my roof and fascia boards. He did it in three days while maintaining his high level of quality. He warned me about debris and the day following my roof completion, he was back with his team checking to make sure everything was done to my satisfaction. He saw my garage had lots of debris and blew it out and not only checked but spot cleaned my garage door. On his website, he references treating his customers' homes like his own, and I absolutely felt this 100% through the entire process. In fact, this was the reason I chose Armtrout's Custom Roofing because I could tell early on that Joe genuinely cares. Super hard to find in the construction trade and I was blown away by the experience! I seriously think Joe and his team are the Rock Stars of roofing here in the Tri-Valley and if you want to work with a real contractor who will give you peace of mind, you should consider Armtrout's Custom Roofing. I could have gone with a less experienced roofer and saved $2K but in the end, you get what you pay for. We just had our roof replaced by Armtrout's Custom Roofing. We asked around before we got quotes and Joe Armtrout's name came up several times. His quote was competitive, his workmanship was top notch, and he was extremely patient with all of our questions. We highly recommend Armtrout's Custom Roofing. A roofing project goes through several phases. Before we selected a roofer, Joe would drop off samples, return our calls, and gave us an estimate when he said he would. Apparently it is common for contractors to be inconsistent with their "customer service". That is, calls go unanswered, appointments get missed, and quotes are ignored. Joe did none of these. He showed up when he said he would and told us exactly how much the job would cost. The actual work took three and a half days. Our house had two layers of old roofing that had to come off before the new roof could go on. His tear-off crew was prompt, efficient, and clean. They put tarps everywhere to catch the errant debris. Six guys had the old roofing off and ready for the new plywood in three hours. The tear off revealed some dry rot (one of the extras I mentioned) that had to be replaced. Joe worked with us so we could prime the replacement boards before he nailed them up. This really helped us get a head start on the repainting that we knew our eaves needed anyway. As the project proceeded, it was evident that Joe really cared about making sure we were happy with the work he was doing. He went out of his way to explain the different looks he could accomplish with the details of the job. The valleys of the roof now have a beautiful hand-woven look. The flue pipes are capped with an unusual galvanized cap that we really like. He was careful in placing the roof vents, selecting a style and location to minimize their appearance. We needed to have our gutters replaced and Joe gave us options that other roofers don't seem to care about. Our new seamless gutters have a profile and color combination that we have yet to see on any other house. We kept some of our old galvanized downspouts and opted for a couple of new unusual round downspouts for special locations. We do most of our home improvement projects ourselves, so we are hesitant to hire strangers to do the work we can't do. Joe kept the work site clean, didn't have a noisy radio blaring, and was considerate our neighbors. Have been a customer since 2014 when my roof leaked and resulted in ceiling damage in the living room. After 14 years in our 1976 ranch house, it was time for a new roof and gutters. We got quotes from several roofers. They were all similar prices but I found them to be either high pressure or non-responsive - you know, no warm-fuzzy feelings. I, along with many of you, have had bad experiences with contractors and didn't want to hire anyone without having the utmost confidence in them. I got a glowing recommendation for Armtrout Roofing from a Pleasanton general contractor so I contacted him for a quote. I'm so glad I did. It was early fall of this year so he was very booked with jobs to be done prior to the rainy season but it didn't seem to dilute Joe's attentiveness at all. He presented a timely reasonable quote, explaining all options for shingles, gutters, vents, flashing, etc. Joe explained that it may be several weeks before he could start due to current work in his cue which was fine with us. In the weeks leading up to the work, Joe called me several times with updates for the estimated start date. I really appreciated this - it was nice to be able to plan my other things around it. On demo day the removal crew showed up early as planned, worked clean and efficiently and were done removing about 2000 square feet of roof and gutters at about 2:00. Later that day, Joe and his son showed up to inspect the demo. They said everything looked good except the previous installation of the plywood sheathing. It was installed with really thin roofing nails. They showed me how inadequate this was by easily pulling up several pieces of plywood by hand. Scary to think that a really strong wind could have ripped the roof to pieces. Roof prep started the next day and the shingles were delivered the day after. They re-nailed the plywood on the entire roof, re-flashed 4 skylights, a sun tube and all vent pipes. My chimney is large for 2 back to back fireplaces and in the center of the roof. It had a hodge-podge of sheet metal pieces for flashing. Joe had a custom, 2 piece sheet metal flashing made, all professionally formed and welded, to wrap around the chimney. On the high side it even had a gable formed into it to deflect rain. I was very impressed. The shingles and gutters went on without a flaw. The guys were extremely professional and made sure the jobsite was clean at the end of each day. Joe even went above and beyond and helped me with some construction that I had been wanting for several years. Overall, the experience was excellent. The work started on a Tuesday and was complete on Saturday. They weren't like other contractors that may work a couple hours, then leave for another job without knowing when they'd be back to finish. Once they started, they worked all day, every day until it was complete to our satisfaction. Their interactions with the city permit inspectors also went very smoothly. Every day it's great to come home to see my gorgeous new roof and gutters and knowing it'll be protecting my family's home for many years to come. A long overdue shoutout to Armtrout's! Joe Armtrout and company did our roof almost 5 years ago, with a great crew, great quality materials, and all at a good price too. Joe offered helpful options and choices along the way - not upselling, but just different ways they could make things look or work a little better. Fixed our sagging chimney board that I had not even noticed. We were very happy then and remain very happy now. Well ok it doesn't rain much here any more, but when it does, no problem.
