We had dealt with another contractor in the past with good success. Synergy said "It sounds like one firm has done right by you. Why don't you see what they come back with, and we're happy to offer free advice." We sent the other contractor's proposal to them. They responded the next day with suggestions to improve the design. They also said "if you have seen their work and are comfortable with their quality, then you should go with them. It seems like a fair proposal." Unlike most contractors who bad-mouth the competition and will try to sell you on any job, Synergy genuinely cared about our results as a homeowner, first. We tried to shift the project to Synergy, and their owner said "I think the other guys earned your business. Please consider us for the next one." WOW! This is the kind of company you want to work with!"

It's difficult to express, in as few words as possible, our satisfaction with their product as there are too many factors involved in a major construction to be able to include them all. I will touch on the major points. Mark and Mina and their team became like members of our extended family; they talked with us and asked questions to uncover the aspects of the house that could be changed to make our home one where we would use the space, inside and out, to the greatest extent possible. The team examined every inch of the house, in order to discover it's potential and to avoid problems. We learned quickly that we could trust them completely, their diligence and attention to every detail allowed us to leave the job to the team, which we did. They delivered a design that was, frankly, beyond what we could have imagined. Their architect, Tom, is a hidden gem with significant talent and skill. He monitored the entire construction for oversight and to maintain the integrity of his design. The quality of the construction is superior, the carpenters are highly skilled. The people who work for Mark and Mina are some of the nicest people I've ever met which made working with these creative, helpful, skilled people a pleasure, it was never a burden. We were greatly blessed by the work of the hands of this company and it is my hope you will consider using them for your project. If I had another project, I would not hesitate to pick up the phone and call Mark. If I have a problem with the project they've completed, I know they will respond graciously and quickly. We chose the Northwood construction, Inc. Their fee was reasonable, not the lowest nor the highest. We did not have to pay up to 10K for the designer fees as in other contractors' proposal. Tran, the Northwood designer, worked fast and diligently with all the drawings, dimensions, selections of cabinets, counter top, tiles, etc. We texted Tran very late in the evening or weekend with our concerns, questions. She always replied right away. To her, client's satisfaction is very important. Thumb up for her work. Charlie, the Northwood main staff for my basement project, is a conscientious, knowledgeable and hard worker. He meticulously put in all the needed wood blockings during the framing of the bathroom walls so he could install all the grab bars and the wall hung shower seat. So, as we get older and we must use the grab bars, we will feel safe because they were installed correctly to the blockings behind the walls. Our ALU passed all Fairfax county inspections. We truly appreciate Charlie's workmanship. Our basement project started and finished on time as planned. We are very please with the results.

Bob Benedict, the owner of Northwood, has an extensive background in construction and is thoughtful in his approach. Whitney Simons is an incredible designer and problem solver when it comes to designing around tricky spaces. She is super organized, has a great design eye, and very responsive to any questions/concerns during your project. Dan Clark was our dedicated project manager and contact throughout construction. You would be hard pressed to find a more conscientious, detail-oriented, thoughtful, and experienced project manager/carpenter. Our project was a kitchen remodel and reconstruction of our back kitchen stairs leading to our basement. The remodel involved removing a wall between our old kitchen and dining, replacing the entire kitchen floor and weaving it into existing hardwood, replacement of 90+ year old stairs and reconfiguring our stair landing, installation of a full-house generator, and full replacement of the kitchen cabinets and appliances. Bob and Whitney spent a lot of time at the beginning of process talking and listening to me and my husband about our needs and wants for the new space as well as our expectations for the experience. They were genuinely interested in learning what our priorities were to ensure that their design and budget met our needs. Once we had a working plan for the kitchen and stair designs, Whitney and I met regularly to make product selections and finishes. Following the selections, Bob and Whitney provided us with a final budget and plan. Northwood's over all approach and process make it stand out from other design build firms. Firstly, they do not start work until all of your materials are delivered and in their warehouse. As a result, there are no surprise work stoppages because an item is back ordered or was late in being ordered. Secondly, they have a dedicated project manager for your project during the entire build. From soup to nuts, the same PM will be at your house every day and communicating with you regarding the daily work and upcoming schedule. If a sub-contractor is on-site, your PM will be there facilitating the entire appointment. Thirdly, the quality and professionalism of their sub-contractors is bar none. The electrician is incredible--he is so knowledgeable and really works with the homeowner to troubleshoot potential issues and make sure the final electrical plan really fits the homeowners' needs. The tile installer is an artist. His attention to detail and meticulous cuts really made our backsplash shine. We installed wallpaper on our ceiling and the installers were so gifted. Our house is nearly 90 years old, and the ceilings are not close to being square, but the installers did an amazing job. Finally, the Northwood team are so friendly and genuine you will be sad when the job is finished. It is clear they take a ton of pride in their work and strive to make the remodeling process as smooth as possible. For instance, they provide an induction plate and pots/pans to use during your remodel. We are over the moon in love with the final work product and kitchen. While we are glad to have a new kitchen, we do miss seeing and talking to the Northwood team. Without any hesitation, I highly recommend for any remodeling project you may have.

Bitarchitects provided a prompt response, prompt call phone consultation & next steps. Within 1 week of contact I was able to discuss my concerns, the engineer completed a thorough walk through of my home & gave me ample amount of time view discuss my concerns. More importantly they didn't drag out the walkthrough for hours!! I appreciate the honest responses to help distinguish between normal settlement & items that are concerning. I'm waiting on the written report (inspection was completed one business day before writing this review) to proceed with the fixes. I strongly urge spending time & money on an inspection from a structural engineer before spending $$$$ for repairs that aren't needed. Prior to contacting I had 2 vendors try to sell me solutions for problems I didn't have. The price I paid for the inspection literally saved me $$,$$$. My selection of Bitarchitects was because they heard my initial concern, were quick to provide service, & provided communication from initial inquiry to the day of service.

Terry Bitar and her team were great to work with every step of the project. They handled things large and small to successfully complete the project. It was easy to communicate with the team, both on big picture issues and on smaller logistical issues. Bitarchitects listened to us and provided us with options and expertise to navigate the task of structural reinforcements for our 100-year old DC home. I also appreciated that, in addition to talking through things, they neatly put things in writing so there was a clear documentation of the project. -- We had an urgent concern with a structural issue in our old house so we reached out to Bitarchitects based on their good reviews here. We received a prompt response and soon had an engineer evaluating our house. The engineer was thorough, helpful, and went above and beyond. He provided a lot of valuable insight both on site and then in a comprehensive written report. I also appreciate that Bitarchitects is able to help me find vendors to complete the work recommended in the engineering report. I have had a great experience from the start and would recommend Bitarchitects to other homeowners.
