Eye roll. What a clown show. Well here's the update that I promised, unfortunately it's not in the direction I was hoping. I got an immediate response to my review below, with multiple requests to remove the review. I stated that I was open to updating or removing it, if things improved, and we ended up having a couple positive meetings. So much so that we elected to continue to work with them on the next phase of the project. So over the weekend (Sept 12-13), they sent us the contract for the next phase. We signed it and sent over the requested payment. I was hopeful! I was mentally drafting a positive update to this review! On Monday I received acknowledgement of receipt of the signed contract. Immediately following that, I got an email that said, and I quote "Before we can resume, please remove the Yelp review so we can start fresh and have a positive experience moving forward as we help you with your project." Guys, my jaw DROPPED. (My husband sent me a simultaneous "WHAT THE F***" text lol) Let me reiterate, we had signed the contract, sent the payment, and THEN received an email saying they wouldn't begin the work until a brand new condition had been met. We were completely floored. But okay, I thought, benefit of the doubt, the guy that sent that email has the position of junior assistant on the website, maybe he doesn't realize that what he's doing - withholding work that has been paid for unless we meet a new requirement that we never agreed to - constitutes a word that rhymes with shmextortion. So I responded that this requirement is unethical, inappropriate, and possibly a breach of contract. I gave him every opportunity to walk it back, and then reached out directly to the firm owner to verify that this was in fact the position that Bitarchitects was taking. The only response I got is that we can terminate the agreement, so that's what we did. To their credit, they processed the refund relatively quickly. So yeah, I don't know. I can only speak to my experience, of course. The other positive reviews indicate that other people have had better experiences with them. But this all does make me wonder if other reviews have been manipulated in a similar manner. So caveat emptor I guess. Because I fully expect they will respond and try to spin this in some way that makes me look like I'm the unreasonable one, I'm attaching screenshots of the actual email exchange (just the initial exchange, because the junior assistant started texting me after that email and it went on for a while, until I went back to email to contact the owner). We interviewed three other architects before choosing Broadhurst Architects to design a new 750 sq. foot addition replacing a smaller, inefficient addition for our 1925 built home. The project also included the remodeling of the existing kitchen, a new back porch and interior door and molding upgrades to the original house. I am sure we weren't the easiest customers to work with. Jeff Broadhurst and his team had a huge challenge. I had dreams of large, dedicated spaces built within a tiny footprint. After listening to our quirky idiosyncrasies and complicated list of must haves, Jeff presented many creative options at different price points. Once we reached design Eureka, we sent it out to bid. We chose a contractor Broadhurst had never worked with that I had brought to the table. The contractor seemed agreeable and capable but after construction began it became obvious he had made only a cursory review of the scope of work prior to submitting the winning bid. Jeff and Hisao's professionalism extended to managing a difficult construction process with our disengaged contractor and his lackadaisical crew. We would never have made it through the process without their guidance and their many interventions. Now that construction is over, the end results far exceed our expectations. We have beautiful spaces that are much larger than I could ever have imagined. The attention to detail Broadhurst put into the molding and finishing choices shine through. We couldn't be happier and love sitting in our new spaces admiring the design and function. Everyone who enters our home immediately experience the "Wow Factor". We would use Broadhurst Architects again in a heartbeat and would be happy to recommend him to anyone in need of a patient, proficient, kind and extremely talented architectural team.

We were so excited for the prospect of our kitchen remodel project with Four Brothers after being a…read morefan of their design aesthetic from a distance. Starting the project was a bit shaky, some communication difficulties with our project manager, Sondra, and the site manager (which changed midway through our project). But the real issues arose with the final execution of the project. Our refrigerator & the panels were improperly installed as confirmed by GE, so every time we close or open the freezer drawer it damages the surrounding cabinets. The drawer handle itself has fallen off numerous times as well. Our brand-new dishwasher that they installed broke down and may be due to contractor install issues, Bosch is still assessing the issue. Our garage was used as a staging spot as well as a woodworking studio, but there was no attempt to ensure our gym equipment which is housed in the garage was protected, which led to damage of our expensive belongings. The wood floors that were installed have damage including large dents, gaps and wood splintering. The painted walls have cracks and bubbles, despite drawing attention to these issues early on. We now have to bring in our own contractors to fix the many issues that Four Brothers left us with. My husband and I both attempted to contact Kent and Sondra who had been our main contact people at Four Brothers with no response. We are extremely frustrated and disappointed with a very costly project that left us with unnecessary headaches and messes to clean up. We made sure our home was a welcoming place, leading with kindess for all the people coming in and out each day, with snacks, cold water & access to indoor bathrooms. We feel sad that they have not been kinder to us in return.

After listened to our desires to reclaim our back yard from the mosquitos, Chris designed a slightly modern outdoor entertaining space off the back of our traditional 1920s American Foursquare. The results were the blend of the traditional screen porch (beadboard ceiling, ipe flooring) with modern features (recessed LED lighting, ceiling fans, all-weather speakers) creating a perfect bug-free entertaining space. Completing the project is a small patio containing a couple of chairs and our grill. We could't be happier with the way the project turned out! While the project went slightly longer than expected (don't they all!), the quality of the design and construction were worth the extra few weeks. Chris was very good at keeping us appraised of the progress during all phases of the project (design, permitting, change orders, inspections, etc.), answering our questions and concerns about building process, and incorporating our changes during construction.
