Visited Armadillo last night at the O2 because everyone in our group loves Mexican food and was excited by the menu.
Terrible food, high prices, offensively rude staff.
Me and a friend both ordered chicken and chorizo quesadillas. The filling was bland, with little spice, and it wasn't held together by any melted cheese - one of the fundamental ingredients of a quesadilla - so it just fell apart from the tortilla far too easily. Also, at least half of each quesadilla was just the two sides of the tortilla folded over. I think I got about two bites of actual filling from each one. £9.
It came with spicy rice that just wasn't spicy and was bulked out with beans that didn't taste of anything.
I ordered some "ranch sauteed potatoes" that should be called "vaguely herby sauteed potatoes".
My friend ordered the Buttermilk chicken skewers. He got four small chicken skewers, and some chips. The restaurant had run out of barbecue sauce, so he was offered some other sauces, and chose salsa. He had to ask again if he could be given it and, when it arrived, it was more like watered-down ketchup. £12.25.
A pint of Blue Moon ale: £6.
The tipping point for our visit came when we noticed two of the staff members. We were sat outside, right next to the entrance, where the two staff members were stood to greet diners and assign them tables.
During down-time between these tasks they'd stand at the front and make offensive comments about every single larger person who walked past the restaurant. There was about 15,000 people at the O2 that night, so they were kept busy by being rude, horrible people in a job that involves working in front of and interacting with the public. They were incredible unprofessional.
It must be said that the water who served us - a slim bloke with short, brown hair - was excellent. He was apologetic when I mentioned about the poor quality of the food, and looked mortified when my friend mentioned the things his colleagues had been saying. He promised that they'd get a talking to, and gave us a discount on those terrible quesadillas as a goodwill gesture. He was the only good thing about our visit.
I am never, ever going back, and I'm looking forward to telling everyone else to avoid this utter hole of a restaurant. read more
