The Old Brewery is just that, Old - which is a great find. Traditional British decor and several craft brew on tap. Ordered a cold craft beer which was poured into a textured glass mug with a handle which was a nice touch. Walked it over to my wooden table in the courtyard and quenched my thirst from the gyro I just inhaled purchased from the Greeko Grill booth next door. The four bathrooms were "old school" with only enough room for three dudes to stand a steel trough urinal and one porcelain against the was. They had a mini kitchen set up in the courtyard cooking up huge burgers and french fries "chips"(See pic). read more

Fish and Chips 10/10- this is hands down my favorite spot for fish and chips in London! The portion is absolutely massive - the fish is huge and perfectly battered, so crispy on the outside while staying incredibly moist and flaky on the inside. They serve it with two sauces - a tartare sauce (which I normally hate but it's actually perfect here as it complements the fish so well) and a curry sauce (haven't seen this served with fish and chips before but I love it - works better with the chips than the fish though). They also give you mashed peas on the side which have this amazing mint flavor to them - another thing I usually dislike but they do such an amazing job with it here! Spiked Hot Chocolate 8.24/10- this was really good but definitely strong on the whiskey! I could tell they used Cadbury hot chocolate which I absolutely love, and surprisingly the whiskey paired really well with it. The hot chocolate itself was super rich and creamy, and the whiskey added this nice warmth without overpowering the chocolate flavor. Perfect drink to warm up with on a cold London day. I love how this pub is so dog friendly - they have blankets and dog treats available which is absolutely adorable! The location is fantastic too, right next to the water. I've eaten at the Old Brewery before but today was different as it was a Christmas Day meal. Upon arrival it was busy, to be honest it was busier than I expected but I guess more people want to eat out and not worry about cooking. I have to point out our meals were pre-booked. We were offered the drinks menu and promptly ordered our drinks. The staff were attentive and our wine choices came quickly. Our starters came promptly once we indicated we were ready to start eating. Portion sizes were ok and while my initial thoughts were they looked a bit small once onto mains and the fact you could get more roast potatoes, parsnips, gravy and other additions all in the already paid price for the meal. They gave us sufficient time to allow each course to settle before the next one arrived. We had a good time and the food was good so if you are Greenwich way it's worth popping in. read more

Having wandered around London all day and travelling back to Greenwich we needed a pint but with somewhere to sit. Sunny day in Greenwich with all the pubs filled to the brim, no complaint, its good to see but I needed a seat. We found outside seating at The Old Brewery luckily. We were on a Thames River tour boat that stopped at Greenwich. You know: Cutty Sark, the National Maritime Museum, GMT, the Observatory. Lots to see. Plenty of places to eat. This place was right in the middle of everything. There was outdoor seating and it was a nice day. I went inside to order at the bar. Prosecco for the wife and a Coke for me. We split a cheeseburger. Came with fries. Altogether pretty decent. The tables are numbered outside. Pick your seat so they can bring you your food. Very nice young lady delivered a decent sized burger with a decent side of fries. It's a nice place. read more

Great location to grab lunch. The weather complimented the food. The lines may be a little long outside to order but you can go inside as long as you remember you table number. Tip: grab a table first and then order. I witnessed people order with a table number and someone else grabbed the table. It wasn't very expensive and they have a nice selection of draft and bottles. LOVELY! The bar is so beautiful. I came here with my parents whilst visiting Greenwich park and they have a lot of outside seating but we still had to act a bit like vulchers and attack the first table available. We have skills like that. Anyway, we ordered our food at the bar and it came out like any British Sunday roast would- with bells and whistles and all the hoody hawdy you can imagine. No but really, the roasts were freaking beautiful and we didn't even order a proper one! The chicken was insane and the veggie was FREAKING DELICIOUS! The beef or pork (or whatever a normal Sunday roast looks like) was insane looking. I was THIS CLOSE to taking a pic of the person's next to us, but I restrained myself. Can't say I have the same self control with puppies. So, to wrap things up, it's a lovely, proper, and proper delicious pub right next to Greenwich park with plenty of outside seating on a nice rainy summer day. ;) read more

True story. Featuring some of the best beer in the ENTIRE WORLD behind the bar, and with the best of Meantime's beers on tap, this place will blow your mind. They have Meantime's brewing equipment on display (and they actually use it!) plus a massive timeline of London's history with beer on the walls, AND a huge beer garden! I was a little shocked this place only had 4 stars. We decided to try it because our feet hurt from sightseeing. Let me tell you we were glad we did. We decided to sit in the courtyard which was casual. Typical that you order inside and they bring your food to you. The food came quick and piping hot, with large portions. I had the pork belly and my husband had the beef and guiness pie. OMG. We both licked the plates clean. Looking around it seemed consistent among others as well. Beer selection was a bit weak but on par with other UK pubs. Would come here again for sure. read more

Came to try the chocolate beer! It was okay, didn't really taste like chocolate, more like Guinness which i love so it was fine. I thought i tasted a hint of chocolate the first two sips before swallowing, that was about it. It was 4.50 and a small glass, so quite pricey..and the food menu was so small...it sucked. The Old Brewery is set in the grounds of the university. I remember when they built it. My mates and I stayed away in the beginning and decided to go after the buzz died down. I've since made several visits here but never wrote a review. There are good and bad bits about it. For some reason the tables in the pub area always seem to be wet. That indicates they aren't being cleaned down. The pub area is cute and I like the lighting in here but the layout is a bit off in some way and they've since added a few more so it's now getting a bit snug in there. The best seating in this area are those along the wall. I haven't eaten in the restaurant area and the style back there is ok but I see some find it posh, I guess I have a different measuring stick on what I consider posh. In fact, I've never eaten here at all but some of the food I have seen does look nice, so maybe at some point I will give it a try. It's perfectly fine to stop here for drinks and stay a little while. They also serve Meantime beer for those who are into flavoured beers. The outdoor space has increased, I see they're going for quantity rather than quality, as it's starting to look a bit too busy outside now in contrast to the historic and well maintained grounds of the campus. For a while I presumed there must be another Old Brewery in Greenwich as I couldn't understand the rave reviews for this place. It's OK, sort of. The place itself is very nice. Bright, airy, modern and clean with seats inside, outside and a broad gateway in to the grounds of the Royal Naval College where you can enjoy your beer. The trouble is I don't enjoy it. Meantime Beer isn't bad but I don't find it particularly pleasant either - just quite plain. Having tried many of the beers on offer and been impressed with none I see little point in making the effort in visiting the Old Brewery when there are other pubs in the area - Admiral Hardy, Gipsy Moth and The Trafalgar to name but a few, there are others - which, in comparison offer more variety at a lower price. Also, I like the beers in other pubs. Perhaps I'm just not a Meantime fan, but I like my beer and I just can't get along with Meantime. Not wishing to tar all of the staff at the Old Brewery with the same brush, for I know there are some fine bar staff there, but I always seem to end up with the slightly dense one. This isn't one specific staff member, it changes every time. Last time I needed to explain my order THREE times to a young lady and even then it was touch and go. As many times as I've been to the Old Brewery, and as much as I love Yelp, I cannot believe that I haven't written about this place yet. As other reviewers have said, the Old Brewery is definitely a trek from anywhere in London, unless of course you live in Greenwich. One of the perks to this, however, is that you do not get the same amount of tourists crowding the area as you would in Central London. If you go, it is absolutely essential that you drink the Meantime Beer (www.meantimebeers.com) It is pretty much the best beer in the world. The building is beautiful. The surround area a paradise. The outdoor seating area is above reproach. The staff is also just incredible, which never hurts. In short, you cannot go wrong with the Old Brewery. read more

(A little insider birdie told me that Meantime will be sold in Chicago soon? Move over Goose Island...) Reasonable food, stylish interior, erratic service and surprisingly mixed quality beer, the Old Brewery wasn't quite what I expected. My friend and I kicked off our evening here at the bar outside, helping ourselves to a couple of pints whilst we waited for the restaurant to open. I do like some Meantime beer, such as the wheat beer, London lager and chocolate stout. But I also agree with Ian P that much of it is very plain: I wasn't very impressed with either the raspberry or strawberry beers they had on tap, or the special Autumnal ale I mistakenly went for. Unexpectedly however, the Old Brewery also happens to serves a lot of excellent beer from other breweries e.g. Belgian Trappist beers, dependable UK brewer Dark Star and the simply superb Stone and Wood, all of which boost the beer on offer here. The restaurant was rather snazzier, with a dimly-lit, contemporary interior. Food and beer pairings were suggested and the service courteous if not as quick as it could have been. I wasn't too blown away by the fish stew I had, but my friend really liked his dish. Overall? Hmmmm. I liked the foodie theme they're going for in the restaurant but I thought the food and much of the Meantime beer fell somewhat short. Mhh, as a German it's hard to summaries, but quite frank, the beer is very good ;-) Went there by accident the expectations are low, but we are very surprised by the quality and the taste of the beer. Even w/ the strange versions like "Chocolate", it was a very balanced selection and really tasty. Beside of having a few beers we went for a dinner to the main hall and again we are surprised by the arrangement and the style of cooking. Due to the experience we also ordered a desert and again it was great! The guests were very mixed, we guessed lots of student there and a bunch of other people. I almost walked straight past this, not recognising the wonders that lie behind the grand walls. I actually thought this was a posh venue reserved for corporate events and surprised to find a beautiful beer garden. And to find out that the impressive building the pub is based in is an actual brewery!! I visited Greenwich as part of the annual GDIF spectacular and was looking for somewhere to enjoy a quick drink before heading home. On a gorgeous summer's evening, the beer garden was packed and the queue at the bar simply ridiculous. What a nice surprise to find the dining room in the actual brewing hall almost empty. They were happy with us just ordering a few snacks rather than a full-blown meal, served at our table which beats queuing any time. The waiting staff was exceptionally friendly - which deserves a special mention considering what a long day they've had. read more

Aaaah, what a great evening. A civilised journey on a Thames Clipper to see a chum who's just bought a flat in Docklands, then on to the Old Brewery for something to eat. We had a quick drink and booked a table for about 9.30 which was no problem - we were informed that the kitchen closed at 10.30 - and wandered round to the restaurant. The decor is lively, contemporary, with a clever use of old bottles as a light fitting. The whole restaurant is incredible spacious (nice not to bump elbows with your next door neighbour). And the service is excellent. I chose the belly pork and a pint of something "hoppy" (not a fan of lagers!). My Pork was unbelievably delicious! That melt in the mouth delicious. Oooh I could have eaten plates of this!!!! I can't wait fo go back again. And the best thing? The bill! although I only had a pint, a main course and a coffee, It wasn't at all bad. read more

Any visit to Greenwich isn't complete without a trip to the Old brewery. Located only a few minutes walk from Greenwich market its definitely worth checking out. There are two bars one which is much bigger and normally has at least one seasonal limited edition beer on draft. There is also a large range of bottled beer in the fridge mostly American craft beer including rarely found in the UK large bottles of Rogue beer. If you have enough time I'd recommend also trying the food which although a bit pricey is worth the treat. Meantime brewery also have a summer beer festival held outside which is a lot of fun just bring a picnic blanket and an umbrella. read more

The Old Brewery is in a fantastic location in at the Old Naval College in Greenwich. When I've been it has always been a warm sunny day so I've always ended up sitting outside. They do food but the menu seems a little fancy dan and overpriced for my taste, I have only ever had drinks and being Greenwich I insist on drinking the Meantime brews which I am a big fan of since touring their brewery in 2013. My favourite of theirs in the Pilsner. The drinks are expensive (minimal change from £10 for two pints) but overall the Old Brewery is a great place to spend a quiet Sunday afternoon. read more

Having arrived here from the new brewery (my mistake; see other review) I found a very lovely pub with an amazing courtyard and views of both the Cutty Sark and the River Thames. They had a great selection of Meantime beers as you'd expect from a Meantime owned venue. I had a Brewery Fresh Lager which was just what the warm evening called for. My friends both ordered the Yakima Red which is very tasty indeed, if a little heavy for my mood. The best thing about this pub? The location. You're literally minutes away from the DLR and TFL river boat services and so many restaurants with so man different cuisines. You are truly spoilt and would be silly not to pop in for a quick pint. read more

Ok.. so inside you will not feel any authentic micro brewery atmosphere you may find in Europe. But.. this place is awesome.. it has the naval college grounds as a beer garden.. as long as you don't mind the grass. Inside is simple and functional.. the food here is great just had a mutton Burger and chips.. Burger handmade and chips crispy. Eat inside then take your pint of GMT pale ale outside and soak up the sun. There is a small area you can sit outside the bar.. but given Greenwich popularity in summer you may struggle for a table . read more

Run by award winning Meantime Brewing Company and located onsite at Discover Greenwich, The Old Brewery brings beer back to where it had once been brewed and piped directly to the Royal Hospital for Seamen, where each retired sailor was allowed a ration of three pints a day. This restaurant/bar/cafe is an attractive and comfortable spot, whether you're there to discover Greenwich or not. On my visit, I sampled three of Meantime's beers: the Helles German style lager, the India Pale Ale and the Hospital Porter. All three were exquisite. The lager was crisp, the IPA (my favourite) was hoppy and the porter, rich and malty. The brewery intends to revive ancient recipes that used unusual ingredients such as bog myrtle or wormwood and to create avant-garde beers such as Mojito Pilsners and juniper pale ales. I love Meantime Brewing Company. In fact, I'd go as far to say that in all of my years of drinking in London, I've never had a bad pint of Meantime. But that doesn't mean that I like this bar. It's just not comfortable. Every now and again and shiny new bar pops up in Greenwich and it just feels out of place. This bar is really rather tiny, and once all of the tables are taken up (which I imagine will always be the case), you're stuck standing in the way of people. Either in front of the three double doors (why so many doors?!) or literally sitting over the top of someone. Such a shame, because I really really wanted to love it here. That said, I love the history (the building is the restored brew house), and the beer displays look great. Menu looked fab, and you can see into the kitchen. There's a fab outside seating area too. But honestly, on Friday evening, I preferred that to sitting inside that pub. It was cold. My loyalty to Meantime is still very strong indeed, but not when it comes to this bar. I love the Discover Greenwich exhibition, and it was a much needed addition to the town, but I'm not sure this is a bar I'll venture into often. Instead, you'll find me all cosy in the Greenwich Union. That's still my favourite Greenwich pub, it'll take a lot for that to change. The Old Brewery doesn't come close. read more

The restaurant has a brilliant service and food. Perfect for special occasions like birthdays or a business dinner. The beer garden is more pub like. A really nice beer garden which fills up quickly on weekends and when it is sunny. Good bar - beers on tap from the local microbrewery, Greenwich Meantime. Food a bit hit and miss though - I am sure when it is a table service restaurant in the evenings it is great, but at lunchtime I had a £12.75 burger, which reminded me of the £4 microwave efforts you get on trains or at motorway service stations. Lets just say it was suitably chewy... Maybe if here at lunch, avoid the food and go for a drink / coffee instead and enjoy the view read more

Meantime Greenwich boasts a cafe, bar and restaurant as well as a microbrewery the beer menu is huge and the food is mainly British gastro-pub fayre. The restaurant dining room is large and dominated by beer stills and a giant beer bottle structure. I had the cod and chips which were well cooked, the cod fresh and succulent, encased in crispy batter. All the components of the fish stew ordered by my friend were well cooked but the dish was spoiled by being served in a saffrony puddle. The cheese board looked very good and could be matched with specific beers on request. It is definitely worth a visit and the beer tasting dinner sounds very interesting. Decent place for a snack and a coffee or drink if you're wandering around historic Greenwich and need to take a break. The tables and booths are very comfortable while you rest your tired feet. I can't really recommend the Mean Time beer as I find it very subpar in flavour at quite a premium price. You'd think the beer would be a little cheaper here as you're at the brewery, but the bottles sold in the case are £5 for less than a pint, ridiculous! read more

love it love it love it Until last night had only been to Old Brewery during the day when it serves lunch, coffees etc, nice. At night though it really comes into its own. The bar area is buzzy, friendly and has nice outside eating/drinking area. The restaurant becomes more elegant - soft lighting, white linen tablecloths etc. Because of the high ceilings even if its busy the noise does not crowd in, chilled music playing, love it. I'm not a beer fanatic but asked for a recommendation given my tastes and was handsomely rewarded with a strong Belgian beer which knocked my socks off! I also was pinicky and asked if the pint of prawns available at lunchtimes could be available for dinner as it wasn't on the dinner menu - no problem. My husband had roast lamb and said it was the tastiest he could remember. We devoured devilled whitebait with caper mayo to share for starters, and my pint o prawns and pommes frites hit the spot. The service was very friendly, and helpful. I will be coming back here again and again. read more
