    Fish & Chip....so good!

We came upon this place by accident....just walking around. There wasn't many people inside, but we were so glad we found this place! Service was topnotch! Food was excellent! Loved the place for its quaint-ness. Would definitely recommend!

We wanted a quaint pub with British beer and fish and chips. We found it here. The staff were friendly and inviting. We had incredible fish and chips upstairs and then had a fun time downstairs in the bar with locals who were happy we were there. A great spot we will return to.

What an amazing experience. In a little alley near the Tower Bridge sits this beautiful historical pub, complete with welcoming staff & a live open fire in the fireplace, burning coal and wood. Historically it has been said that a pub has been here for the last 800 years, and general sentiment is that the current structure was built circa 1671, yet was spared in the great fire of London in 1666. In any case I'd love to travel back in time to listen to the thousands of conversations that happened here. Just about a 5 minute walk from the London Bridge tube stop, it's well worth a visit. This ended up being my favorite pub in all of London.

Really good pub experience. Good selection of beers from Samuel Smith Beewery. Warm and inviting interior with a Billiards room and Beer Garden in the back. Bartender - Becky, was Really nice. Recommend your visiting!

A great place to have a break during summer

We were glad to find this place during summer stroll around Tower Bridge area. They do offer dining upstair but we didn't, we just wanted a beer break from the hot sun. I ordered a pint of cider, it is light and fruity. They have a outdoor seating at the back, it is a good place to catch up with friends.

After spending £10+ on two (bad) pints at another Shad Thames drinking establishment, the Anchor Tap welcomed me with its cheap, cheap Sam Smith's arms, poured me two Alpine Lagers, gave me a packet of salt and vinegar crisps and let me sit in its dark, cavernous drinking rooms to my liver's (dis)content. With some characteristically steep, winding staircases and low overheads, I felt as if I were in the Cheshire Cheese on Fleet Street, but I was actually a bit more comfortable out of the comforts of the City. Plus, this place has a beer garden. And a pool table. And a dart board. And old men drinking beer quietly by themselves in a corner.

The samosas were good but spicy. I really liked the hosin like sauce drizzled over them. We had one order of roast, planning a late lunch snack before dinner. It was covered in a red curry gravy, slightly spicy. It came with roasted potatoes and broccoli, and a Yorkshire pudding. Plenty. We left a couple potatoes and broccoli on the plate. From the owner to the chef. Quirky and good selection of drinks. Food was yummy, only had nibbles but will report back on more as will definitely be returning for mains etc. Cute little rooftop patio place for a couple of tables, and peaceful there too! Just had a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon here and couldn't get over how much they went out of their way so you can carry on, enjoy and have fun. Top top banana.

We were immediately sold. We lucked out on a table during a hopping Sunday and were able to snag the last couple plates of their Sunday Roast. The roast was fantastic! Before I go on, I have to thank the staff for allowing us to be seated because the restaurant was fully booked yet they managed to squeeze us in. That was so generous of them and we just want to acknowledge them. Ok. So, the portion was generous and beautifully plated. The steak was tender, rich, and slow-cooked to perfection, packed with deep, savory flavor from the ale. Every bite was hearty and comforting -- exactly what you want when you're in London. The gravy was silky and robust, perfect for dipping those thick-cut chips, which were golden on the outside and fluffy on the inside. It also came with fresh greens, roasted tomatoes, and crispy onion rings that added great texture and balance to the dish. You can tell this is proper pub food done right -- no shortcuts, just bold, satisfying flavor. If you're looking for a classic, filling English meal that absolutely delivers, this is it. I'd order it again in a heartbeat. Not a bad start to our first night in London. Bonus: They have a downstairs pub that stretches across 3-4 rooms so definitely grab yourself a pint after dinner. Charles Dickens visited the site when it was a coffee house and it's mentioned in Little Dorrit. But the real reason to visit is for the food. Borough market, just across the road may offer a world of different foods, but The George Inn offers traditional British pub food at its best, in warm, historic rooms. This is your place if you're looking for authentic fish 'n chips--they're fresh, lightly battered and perfectly fried without being greasy. I also had the mac 'n cheese which used real vintage/sharp cheddar--and a lot of it--excellent! So you'll get good food while enjoying a historic inn where, for hundreds of years, travelers changed horses, got food, drink, and lodging before the railway era. IMPORTANT TIP: You order food at the bar--but you will need a table number. So you'll need someone in your party to sit at a table in the adjoining room. There'll be a brass plate with a number on it which you'll give when you order--so the food can be brought to your table.
