We love our east valley home but our backyard was in the full Arizona sun all day preventing us…read morefrom fully utilizing the patio or pool. Any amount of landscaping would only partially shade the yard and not the area we used most. We did try a couple of gazebo style canopies from Amazon and a very large off-set umbrella from a local store but they both collapsed during wind/dust storms (the umbrella almost immediately and the canopies the second year). We needed to invest in something more permanent that would stand up to our crazy wind storms and the unrelenting sun. We called the Outside Shade Company who quickly provided us with recommendations and a quote for two sails. We made a couple changes (two additional sails) which the Outside Shade Company happily added for us without complaint and at a discount. In the end, they installed four shade sails, three over the pool and pool decks and one small rectangle to shade our covered patio from the morning sun. The poles are sturdy steal with welded rings cemented into the ground and are painted to match the house. The sails are a quality mesh-like material that provides shade and protection from the harmful UV rays without interfering with our enjoyment of the Arizona sky. The complete job took a little longer than expected due to the busy summer season but were installed just in time for peak swimming weather and well worth the wait. The Outside Shade Company is a great company to work with and I highly recommend them for your outside shade project.

I contacted the owner who arranged a time for us to meet so that she could see the piece to understand our repair needs. We came to her place of business where she quickly assessed the best way to repair the canopy so that it would function for at least another demo season. She proceeded to competently stitch the canopy and we were on our way 20 minutes later. Most people would be intimidated by a 53' canopy, but Tatiana didn't even bat an eyelash. They went longer than their estimated time and never contacted us once. When we finally reached out to them the person was rude and just wanted us off the phone. We had to complain to original salesman. They came and installed and left huge gaps and uneven shades. They said this is how houses are designed now and not their fault. They said "these are glorified paper towel rollers do not expect much". They also made sure to let us know keep shades and awning up and never leave unattended. We sent photos and our issues to them. The fix they suggested was to cut a gap in or walk way. We called paver company and they said that is a HUGE safety concern and please do not do that.

Not what I was expecting after paying thousands of dollars. The second item: it's extremely challenging to roll the shades up and down, especially if you're a small person. You have to fiddle around trying to find the sweet spot. And it seems to take forever. So if you needed to raise them in a hurry during a wind storm, good luck.
