I bought my dress online somewhere else but came here to get it fitted. It was the second place I went to, and Arlenes was a much more reasonable quote. To get hem shortened, there was 2 months to wait, so don't delay, ladies. The seamstress Jessi seemed very nice and like she knew what she was doing. When I came back 2 months later, it hadn't been done because the chalk marks had worn off, which sucked. Jessi said she could get it done later in afternoon but woman you make appointment with said that wasn't possible and I had to come back a week. It was still a month before my wedding, but I would just tell women to give plenty of time in case of delays. When I did get it, it fit well and the price was right, so I'd still recommend if time isn't of the essence. Parking is super minimal and almost no street parking, so if possible, hand someone else be able to quickly pick you up so you don't walk several blocks carrying a dress. Right now they are appointment only and keep door locked, so again, early preparation is critical. read more

I got married in July 2023 and had an amazing experience at Arlene's. Jules listened to all my preferences and pulled the perfect dress for me. Trying on dresses with her was fun and stress free, there was so many different styles to try and all were within my tight budget. I also had alterations done at Arlene's and Jessie did an amazing job! My dress had a couple difficult alterations that needed to be done and she did a beautiful job (my mom is very into sewing and was very impressed with the job Jessie did). There were no issues with timing and my dress fit perfectly and I felt so beautiful on my wedding day. Service: the worst. Don't order dresses here, they don't know how to take measurements and they'll yell at you when the dress doesn't fit. They ordered my dress several sizes too big. Then during the fitting, one of the women slapped my boob several times to tell me that the dress is too big because I need a bra to make it fit. I told them I don't plan on wearing a bra with that dress because it had spaghetti straps with very low back, and the dress itself has padding and boning, which should be supportive, and she continued to yell at me that I need a bra. I left and took the dress to get majorly altered at another business. I regret spending any money here in the first place. It's with a very heavy heart I write this review, because I happen to really like the seamstress here. However, not everyone has a connection at a Bridal shop, that can call in a favor, two days before your wedding. If you end up at Arlene's, just make sure you give yourself plenty of time for your dress pick-up and have a plan b. I ended up at Arlene's, at it was the closest location carrying the Maggie Sottero dress I wanted. I realized from the get-go, that the staff is a bit curt and the place is in a bit of disrepair, but whatever, I wanted to stay closer to home. The ordering process was uneventful, but at alterations I sensed a potential problem, when the shop owner asked me "if I was a seamstress", lol, because I was not happy with the initial pinning of the dress. She also told me I could take the dress home if I wanted to, for someone else to alter. Yep, she is a doll. A + in customer service all the way! Fast forward to 6 fittings later, I ended up buying a corset bra with a mismatched extender, at the store, to "fix" a really odd creasing and bulging issue with the bodice of the dress. I was told that my "fat" was creating the issue. I tried it with the bra on and the fit was better. If you wonder why so many fittings, it was because I noticed the ill-fitting issue at the bust and kept coming back with different products: i.e. breast stickies, cups etc. Not only did I spend $400.00 in alterations, but also wasted a lot of money buying undergarments to "correct" my "droopy boobs". So, fast forward to the pick-up day. I went and picked up the dress yesterday, as my wedding is this Saturday. I begged for them to let me try the dress on one more time. It was very close to closing time, yet, I literally barged myself in and tried this dress on my own. I realized then that this "bra" would show thru the v-neck of the dress. The owner gave me a complimentary package of fashion tape and sent me on my way. I was supposed to tape the dress to the bra the day of the wedding. Concerned, I got home and tried it one more time. I realized things were even worse, as within just 10-15 minutes of me wearing the dress, the bra would ride up even more. Desperate I took photos and sent them to my stylist, who used to work in bridal. She was sweet enough to get the shop she used to work for, to keep open, so I could get the dress in and review the alteration. I really was not comfortable with the explanation of the issue, and at least needed to rush the dress for a second opinion In short, the new seamstress found several issues, but I would let the images speak for themselves. What prompted me to write this review, is not the fact the alteration was not done correctly, it is the response from the store owner. I have captured screenshots.I asked for at least a refund on this bra, but no, it's all my issue, the dress was perfect, I'm just impossible to please. Overall, I cannot, in good conscience recommend this place. I was lucky I knew someone good that could fix, but most people are not that lucky or can move that fast. I spend $450.00 between alterations and this bra, which were lost, as I had to pay again. The lighter photo is the before. You can see the ill fit at the bust, to the point that the top of the cup looks like a flat pancake, there is fabric gathering below my bust and my waistline is not delineated. The yellower photo is the after. You can see that the cup is now properly shaping my bust, the wrinkly, excess fabric below the bust is gone, and the dress follows the curve of my waist, without bulging. The beauty of this review, is that the pictures speak for themselves. Arlene's Bridal, a dash of humble pie, working on having a better manner with your customers and being open to criticism, are key. If companies like David's Bridal and Kleinfield do, so can you. read more

Arlenes Bridal was my saving grace! I got engaged in August, and we decided on 2/2/22 for our wedding date. After 2 completely failed appointments elsewhere I became discouraged. Finding my dress at Arlene's was by far one of my favorite wedding planning experiences. I would call every bride in the world personally if I could, and tell them that this is the ONLY bridal shop you will ever need to go to. I cannot say enough wonderful things about Debbie, Jewel, and the rest of the staff here. I went in for my dress appointment with a style in mind completely different than what I ended up with. I told Debbie what I was looking for, and she found me the exact dress to try on. When I realized I hated it on me, and no longer wanted that style, but didn't know what else I would have liked, Debbie immediately knew what to show me- She pulled out a new Essence of Australia dress that had just come in, and told me that she just knew it was going to be perfect for me. I was skeptical at first, because it was not something I would have chosen on my own, but I decided to trust the professional and try it on. I was SO happy I did, and when I saw myself in my dress, I cried. She knew right away what I was going to like, and helped me pick a dress that quite literally felt like it was made for me. I knew right away that was my dress, and she came out with a sign and a bell, and did the whole " are you saying yes to the dress?" thing. It was beautiful, and the whole experience was everything I could have wanted and more. I ended up bringing all of my bridesmaids there to get their dresses, and Debbie set up a whole "Sunday Funday" for us. We had the entire store to ourselves for 2 hours, and were able to bring snacks and champagne, and have such a great time finding all of the girls their dresses (I also had each girl in a different color and style, and they were all patient and great at finding the perfect dress for all 6 girls !) My dress arrived much earlier than expected, with no issues, and when I had to postpone my wedding for a year due to Covid, Debbie offered to store all of our dresses for the entire time without question. They are all just amazing there. Debbie and Jewel are an absolute dream team, and made this whole process not only easy and seamless, but also so fun and actually enjoyable! I read all these reviews about how good Jewel/Jules was but I have to be honest... Disagree. We called in last minute to see their availability (mind you, she didn't have to say yes) and we came in. Jules tended the bride and I but wasn't very welcoming. Didn't take the time to get to know what the bride wanted and sort of disregarded the photos that the bride had shown her. Brought out every dress that wasn't near what the bride showed. Also failed to help the bride carry the trains back to the fitting area. David's Bridal did better than this and were much more kinder and attentive. Also the owner came downstairs complaining about how she didn't know what another bride wanted and didn't have anything in her price range. All Im saying is complain less and inquire more. *UPDATE* I was going to let this go, but I guess you could say I was pushed over the edge with this one. For an accurate portrayal of how this business owner talks to paying customers, check out the messages I screen shotted below. --- I really wish I read some of the reviews before coming to this place for a bridesmaid dress. Regardless of the fact that our party's dresses had to be ordered here, I feel like had I known, I would have gone in with thicker skin. The appearance of this place didn't quite bother me, though others are right in saying that it's the size of a closet, with hardly any (dressing) room to try on a floor-length gown. What did bother me was the professionalism of this place & their ordering/sizing system. We got measured for our dresses and the woman sizing me didn't let me know the size afterwards. I stupidly trusted them and waited until the dress came in to see that she had ordered me a size 10... I'm not the world's thinnest, but I wear a pants size two and most of my dresses are sized two to four. Thinking it could have been a mistake, I asked another bridesmaid in our group (about my size, but shorter) what size she had gotten -- an eight. I was assured that these dresses run "pretty small", but when I got my dress, it looked like an oversized sleeping bag, made for someone whose nearing seven feet tall. The next time I was in the bridal salon, I noticed a beautiful young woman (probably a teenager) getting her bridesmaid dress. After getting measured (unlike me), she asked what size was being ordered, because she usually takes a double-zero, however orders a zero to take in where necessary (and yes, she was very thin). The woman attending to her was quick to quiet her and said that because of her height (maybe 5'6?), she had to order her a size four to make sure the torso fit correctly since she was tall and thin. Bullshit. They ordered her a four so that they could squeeze another $60 out of her for alterations. When a member of our group called to make alterations, the woman answering the phone was very rude and snippy. Since the dresses did have to be altered, she moved forward with trying to book an appointment regardless, figuring the alterations would be even more expensive elsewhere. The woman barked that the dress would take six to eight weeks to alter (even though the wedding was in seven weeks). It's truly inconvenient that they only do alteration appointments on Saturdays & Mondays -- especially when they seemingly take so long to make alterations, but that isn't as bothersome as the way this salon treats its customers. After picking up my dress, I went to a family seamstress to have my dress altered. When I put it on, the seamstress LAUGHED. I was hugging the dress against my body pleading for her to make it work. She took in over two and a half inches on each side, over four inches from the bottom, and I will have to go again for a second fitting (keep in mind this is a bridesmaid dress -- not a wedding gown!). I'm disappointed because had they sized me correctly from the start, I wouldn't be spending an arm and the leg to have my dress more-or-less remade. More than that, I'd probably have actually trusted them to make my alterations. I'm truly disappointed in Arlene's and had high hopes, but at least I know now to not come back, and hopefully this review is helpful to someone whose considering them or has to order from them in the future. read more

They told me that the reason I didn't continue to honor the price they originally gave me was because the bride did not buy the dress from their shop and we were only 3 bridesmaids. This bridal shop was amazing from the start! I was originally a July 2020 bride and went back in August of 2019 to try on dresses. My consultant was awesome and let me try on whatever I wanted, even encouraging me to try all styles in case a style I may have been against fit me the best. She was even okay with my mom pulling dresses on her own. She helped me find my forever dress and was awesome about letting me take pictures! Fast forward to 2020, the owner was very responsive with my emails about potential fittings and called me as soon as my dress came in. Because of COVID and the shop being closed, she suggested I take my dress home for safe keeping. Obviously I paid the balance on my dress, but it was in my possession so it makes the most sense. She was understanding when I emailed her again to tell her I was postponing. When it was time for my first fitting for my postponed date, it was easy for me to schedule and they were super nice on the phone and in person. It was nice to be put at such ease with the horrible mess the world is now. They listened to my every concern and fixed anything I voiced. The owner even read the look on my face multiple times to fix things on the dress to put me at ease. On my last visit, they fixed some last minute things because I wanted it done and they kept stressing they would rather me walk out happy and feeling great than calling in a panic in a week with something. A one star is way too high for this business. I am in a bridal party for one of my childhood friends and the customer service has made ever step of this joyous process horrendous. Let's start with ordering the dress. I do not live local and had to give my measurements. First of, they only accepted these measurements via fax. I have no clue who stilll owns a fax machine. After sending in my measurement, they called too review. This I thought would be a confirmation phone call, I was wrong. They called and immediately insulted my measurements. They had never met me or seen a photo of me. I am a curvier woman and the woman on the phone asked if I had recently delivered a baby based on my hips being larger. I had never been insulted based on my body before. And for someone I had never met is unbelievable. The dress was order the end of August and was suppose to arrive early December. Instead the dress arrived in the middle of January. The bride asked the shop if tthey would pay for the shipping for me sInce the dress was delayed on their end and I was planning to arrive in December for the dress. They sAid no. Once the dress we arrrived, it was WAY TOO SMAll it was too small Because they changed the size after insulting my measurements without my permission or agreement. The shop did not apologize and had no solution to help me have a dress that would zip. The dress was about 6 sizes too small!!! That's not a small error. I am now paying more than the dress cost to fix the dress did. I am not in the bridal market regularly. But I do buy clothes often and I have never had this lack of and extremely rude customer service. read more

I am so happy I purchased my wedding dress at Arlene's. From the beginning of my dress search to the final fittings, Debbie and her staff were absolutely amazing. When I found a dress I liked at a different shop, (but was way out of my price range) I showed it to Debbie and she was able to show me a similar dress in her inventory that I totally fell in love with. The best part? It was about half the price. She even helped me manage about 10 of my family and friends during the shopping experience, so I wouldn't be overwhelmed with opinions. By the end, she helped me convince all those women (who spanned three generations and several different tastes) that this was "the dress." Once my dress arrived, and my fittings had begun, I was even able to send her a Facebook message during off hours about some concerns I had with the back of my dress, and she promptly set me up with a new appointment the very next day to address them. Gessie, her seamstress, worked wonders and Jewel (one of the shop employees) sat with me throughout every one of my fittings. Gessie made my dress perfect for me and, as she said, I am "going to wow" when I wear it this weekend. I feel stunning in my gown and that's exactly how a bride should feel, thanks to Arlene's. First of all id like to say that ive read some of the bad reviews from this place and they are ridiculous. Theres no reason to buy a wedding dress 2 years prior to the wedding, that is just utter nonsense. First of all, styles change every season/year. Secondly, your weight can undergo a drastic change in much less than 1 year. What if your dress becomes too small? Then what? You have to buy another one...like hello...... anArlenes has a totally beautiful yet affordable collection of dresses. The other thing i love about them is that they are totally honest...if something doesnt look nice they will straight up tell you because they WANT you to look your best. The seamstress is so good that she corrects things on your dress that you didnt even know was a problem. I had a great experience here and i would ( have) recommend it to any one. Of my friends who got married recently, 3/6 of them got their dresses here, and all were perfectly satisfied. I am only sorry I didn't wind up getting a dress here. With all the positive experiences, Arlene's was my first stop. Unfortunately, they have an extremely limited number of plus sized gowns to try. They few they do are all in a very similar style (A-line), when I had my heart set on a column. Service was absolutely amazing. As soon as the girl seeing me realized she didn't have what I was looking for, she brought out a floor-length bridesmaid dress that I have kicked myself ever since for not getting. She said it could be made in white, and it fit me and flattered me perfectly, and it was everything I wanted. I just really wanted to buy a "wedding" dress rather than a bridesmaid dress. Fast forward 11 months, and I am having a terrible time with my fittings at the location I did get my dress at. Depressed, I called Arlene's crying on the phone, I begged if they had anything I could come in and buy off the shelf, since I hated my dress (that my other place refused to alter to specs) and my wedding was 2 weeks away. They had me come in, and showed me a few things, but mostly just talked to me, to find out why I was unhappy with the dress I bought. They told me exactly what to say, and how to say it, to demand the alterations I needed on my dress from the other store. They calmed me down and comforted me, and asked me to call them to follow up with how it went. I never bought a thing at Arlene's, but I was treated like a close friend, and given time and amazing advice when I really needed it. read more

I came here with my bridesmaids to check out some bridesmaids gowns. One of the girls was pretty helpful. I told her I was looking for hot pink and she showed me some swatches. From there she told me what brand of dresses to look for, which was super helpeul rather than have me check out dresses only to find they dont make then in the color I want. After that, she quickly ran off to help someone with a fitting. After she left, I was stuck with a sales rep who wasnt very friendly. She offered her opinion when it wasnt welcome, and was less than helpful. To top it all off, I asked her to write down the dress manufacturer/number of the dresses that were "potentials". I get home...turns out she wrote down the bridal shop super secret number that I couldnt use to look up the address on the internet. So much for my maid of honor seeing the dresses (she couldnt make the trip). I was able to find one of the 2 on the internet... I really wanted to like this place. oh well. Even if I decide to go with the 1 dress I was able to find, I wont be going back there... OH AND NO PICTURES ALLOWED!! It is a small family owned establishment so it is a very intimate experience where they know who you are when you call - they don't have to look you up by a wedding dress number which is exactly what I wanted. My 12 (yes 12 lol) bridesmaids got there dresses there as well with 10% discount off bc I purchased my dress there which was nice for them. I will say that they certainly have the bride in mind at all times and can be tough cookies with the maids during the process! That was my gfs feedback to me., but as a bride I was very pleased and loved working with the entire team :) I will most certainly recommend! I'm getting married and wanted to support local business with the purchase of a wedding gown, bridesmaids dresses, mother of the bride gown, my junior bridesmaid and flower girl dresses, tux rentals etc. Usually, I don't do many yelp reviews or negative yelp reviews and I sent this very feedback to the email listed on the website of this shop. But other brides BEWARE!! I contacted this shop a few months back to find out information and set up an appointment to try on gowns. The person I spoke to told me that it was "too early" and to call back in a few months - without regard to whether I had $4, $4,000 or $40,000 for a gown since "brides always change their minds". At that point, I should have gone with my gut and never went back to these people. Against my better judgement, my mother wanted to go. So we went, last night, in the pouring rain and decided to go in and just look. As soon as we walked in no one greeted us - at all. The blonde from the counter was helping another customer - looked up and saw us and couldn't be bothered to even greet us. And she was snarky. Like are you designing these dresses?! Do you get stock options from these designers?! Get over yourself. We waited around quite some time, waiting to be acknowledged. That is, until this other woman walked into the store right in front of us, and when the clerk was finished with the previous customer, proceeded to greet the young woman while still ignoring us. You know, I could not care less, if I had to wait 10, 15 minutes for someone to assist us. But at least greet us and let us know you'll be right with us. Not greeting or even acknowledging us is rude, unprofessional and disrespectful. By the way, as we walked out, the clerk smirked and giggled behind us. I literally don't even know how to express how much of a waste going here was. I wouldn't consider it a bridal boutique at all. I'd call it a shop that has really ugly prom/mayyyybe bridesmaids dresses that also happen to have bridal dresses from the year 2000 to 1983. Arlene herself was there and although it's nice they do alterations and custom work- she couldn't have been less interested in helping me. Because one of my bridesmaids made a two hour trip in the snow, and another an hour trip in the snow- I tried to make the best of the situation and tried three dresses on that maybe could've been 'okay' at best. Fortunately a bridesmaid was there to help me try the dresses on because Arlene was as useless as her shop. We entered the teeniest dirty dusty fitting room and came out to seek clips...Arlene handed some to my bridesmaid and I asked her if she could clip it the way it was supposed to look and her response everytime was "no she did okay, you get the idea" NO ARLENE, We actually don't get the idea! Also- She told my bridesmaids husband/my brother inlaw to be to stay in the corner until I was done because it was inappropriate. Went here in December to look at bridesmaid dresses. They have a large selection of dresses compared to other places (like Davids Bridal). I made an appointment because I have a large bridal party of 8 girls, but there was really not enough room when we got there which is a little frustrating but whatever no biggie they made some extra room for us. The options: there is definitely quantity here, but not really much quality. Sales person: Really aggravating. I had a general color I was aiming for, deep red, and I wanted to make sure every dress my bridal party tried on was available in that color so we werent wasting any time. They seemed to get very aggravated everytime I made sure that X dress came in Y color. I mean, I have 8 girls here possibly buying a $250+ dress, you would think that they could give me the time of day? ANyways, picked out three we liked that we were assured came in the deep red (burgundy) color. We are now 2 1/2 hours in to the appointment when the lady says she is mistaken, that NONE of the three we narrowed it down to came in that. At this point, we were all exhausted. traveled way too long to deal with this, the sales person really didn't have answers to our questions and kept having to ask another lady the answers which STILL were incorrect. Then insisted that they never told us it came in our colors. OK. We were treated very rudely by the end because they were seemingly getting frustrated (?) even though we jsut spent hours trying on gowns that we couldn't even get. PRICES: very overpriced. The designers are popular, so if you go, find your dress, right down the number, look it up online. It will be at least $100 less than in store. read more

I really wanted to support the local dress store rather than Macy's or Davids, etc...but I didn't end up buying from this store because I got such a bad feeling from the owner, the way customers are treated, and the way the place was run. The way you treat people makes all the difference, and this place has a negative vibe. I got to experience this store as a bridesmaid and a bride--both weddings were within a few months. While I was there, I heard someone--maybe the owner--have two harsh arguments with people on the phone and in person about owing her more money. Bad first impression! She also refused to take my measurements as a bridesmaid if my dress order went through the bride's dress shop and not hers. It takes one minute to take measurements, and is an opportunity to connect in a positive way with a potential bridal customer. She lost my business with her negativity. On a positive note, there was a young girl that helped me briefly try on bridal gowns that was nice; but it was clear her laid back and warm style was not the way the shop owner rolls--I had the feeling that she was unhappy working in this shop's environment. It is a shame because I was hoping for a nice small dress shop to recommend to people in Bloomfield. :( read more

Not only are they doing my wedding dress, but they were able to completely transform my mom's mother of the bride dress that needed a ton of work to fit her amazingly! read more

Back in June, I had called to arrange an appointment for my wedding dress and the lady asked me when I was getting married and I said February 2021, to which she replied, " ooh it's so early you going to change your mind or get confused." This was even before I walked in the door. I was appalled by her response that I said never mind and she hung up on me. Never in my life have I experienced such terrible customer service. Driving out business before it even walks through the door isn't smart and I thought supporting a small local business was nice. Beware of the nastiness and unprofessional way they handle themselves. Truly despicable and embarrassing they sell wedding dresses and it's supposed to be the happiest day of your life. Truly miserable people. read more

I am the mother of the bride and I went to Arlene's to get my gown. The people there are extremely nice. They know exactly what they're doing and how to fit you for the gown. Prices are phenomenal. My daughter bought her bridal gown there and all her bridesmaids as well . After reading some of the reviews I have to say that I think thst whoever is writing a negative statement must be on something. I am over 50 years old and I must say that the bridal shop is helpful honest and professional. I will always go there for gowns from now on. I had a great experience getting my dress from Arlene's. Jewel is amazing, I highly recommend her. She really listens and understands what you want. I grew to trust her very quickly, which helped because when I got to things that I was unsure about, like alterations, it was easy to take her advice. The alterations were awesome, too. I was very particular about them because my dress was lace and therefore very detailed, and I am a detail-oriented person. I ended up going for 4-5 fittings because they were as determined to get it right as I was. And in the end, every last thing was perfect. The owner is kind of abrasive and probably should just let her awesome staff handle all customer interactions, but she means well. Our wedding was yesterday and I'm still on cloud 9. Everyone love love loved my dress. Not least of all, my new husband. I'm not going to lie, I looked beautiful, and I felt even more beautiful. I was so comfortable because the dress fit perfectly and just knowing that it was exactly what I wanted made it even better. read more

I've had nothing but wonderful experiences with Arlene's. I ordered my dress, accessories, and all my bridesmaids dresses here. They were very polite, patient, and accommodating in every step. I only tried on a few dresses before I found the one, but what I did try on was exactly what I said I was interested in. My consultant Christina didn't pull anything that wasn't my taste or price range, and was very knowledgable and clearly answered all of my silly little questions - and there were a lot of those! She called me a few weeks later to remind me of an accessory trunk show they were having, as she knew I had a specific look and budget in mind for a sash. When I arrived the day of the show they had pulled the dress I ordered so I could see the accessories while wearing my gown. They even suggested assembling a custom sash using a flexible headpiece I fell in love with but didn't work with my hairstyle. I trust Arlene's to handle all of my alterations and can't wait to see the finished product! read more

I think that it is very distasteful for the staff to treat you as if you're a thief because you choose not to get alterations done at their shop. Once I stated that I wouldn't be getting the alterations, one lady started pulling the pins out the top of the dress. I told her she could leave them and she stated, "you didn't pay for these and you can let the other person whose doing the alterations do it." I said wow, okay no problem. Then when I went to pay my balance, the other lady tells me, you cannot pay with a credit card. She never asked me my form of payment, she assumed. You have to pay in cash when you are not getting alterations and taking your dress now. That was my first time hearing that. Then she proceeded with a story by saying this group of girls came and brought dresses, didn't get the alterations done there, paid with a credit card and then cancelled their dresses. I only owed $53 dollars on my dress and what does the girls story have to do with me. I was appalled and in disbelief. I stated to the woman that I was paying with my debit card and not a credit card because I didn't have any cash. She then swiped the debit card. This is why its very important that when you encounter anyone on the first time and you feel that negative energy, you should make changes then. It's too many bridal shops to deal with this kind of experience. When you go into these shops, its a time of excitement and joy and one should feel just that. read more

I had the best experience at Arlene's. I told Debbie the kind of dress I was looking for. She said she knew what I wanted. It was the first and only one I tried on at Arlene's and fell in love with it. It was smooth sailing from that point on. I would recommend this salon to any bride. They made me feel like I have known them forever. Debbie even shed a tear when I came to pick up my dress and veil. It was sad knowing I wouldn't see her again.
