I recently moved into a new home that came with an array of beautiful plants and flowers etc. Front and back were well maintained and beautiful. The landscaper the owner had doing it before had moved on to a corporate landscaping situation so I had to find someone new. I was really nervous to use my old guy as I had only seen him do a standard yard. I was fearful that the plants would be cut wrong or ruined etc. So I searched and found Glenn. He has a degree in botany and absolutely knows his plants, trees and flowers. He came over with his very nice wife to do a walk through so he could get me a quote. I explained what I wanted exactly and his wife assured me that he would do it as I liked. During the walk through I had my husband and the owner's brother with me for the part where I explained I really need the wall ivy cut as it's getting heavy and I am afraid it will all fall. It had already started to fall in a small area. The owners brother even explained how far back it should be cut etc. I told him this was my top priority. A few days later I finally get a quote of $55/ hour and it would take 3-4 hours. I was pretty floored because the front and back yards are pretty small. They were a little grown out but nothing crazy, not many weeds...nothing obscene by any means. We have a lot of beautiful plants etc. but I could not fathom it taken that long. However, I felt based on what they said that it would get done exactly as I asked and the plants would be taken care of so it would be worth it. So I agreed. The day he came they got to work at around 12:00 pm. by 2:15 I got up and looked in the back yard and noticed that nothing looked different. I went to the front and the 1 guy he brought with him was still blowing out the front. Everything in the front was cut except the Aloe Vera plants that were huge and we had discussed him cutting them back during the walk through. No go. Didn't do it at all. So then I started to worry. If we are 2 hours 15 minutes into the work and only the front yard is done (which had very little to do in the grand sceme of things...how long would the back take? Well..they didn't cut back the wall ivy or do any edging or cutting back of the ground plants in the back. They did around the pool though. The one plant I said I didn't want cut, they chopped into an odd square shape...it's not meant to be that way. I was pretty upset about that. Let me put it this way. My daughter got home and went and looked in the backyard then turned to me and said... I thought the yard guy came...the front looks done...did they not do the back? I just laughed. They told me they would clean out the pool but my pool is full of leaves etc...worse than I have ever seen. So now I am going to be spending hours trying to get all of it out. I don't even know where it all came from. It's sitting at the bottom of my pool. When I addressed the ivy his answer was tugging on it to show me it wouldn't fall. Even though it had fallen in the other area. I wanted it cut but I guess it's his yard not mine. I address the aloe vera and he said other clients got really mad at him for cutting them back and cutting the flowers. I am not other clients and explained what I wanted in the walk through. So with all of this said, he is not worth it. My regular guy would have done and extremely better job for half the price...maybe not half but $70 less for sure. I am so disappointed that my backyard (my main priority) was hardly done. I think the problem was...he brought one guy and he himself moves at snail pace. I think he realized he was running out of time so my back yard paid the price. I would never recommend this person to anyone. Not for who he is, but for the work he did. Now I have to pay more money to get the job..actually done. He might have a degree in botany but that doesn't mean he will do a good job on your yard.

He then got back to me upon learning my address, and told me that he could squeeze me in for my relatively small tree after a job he had in the neighborhood. His communication leading up to the appointment was fantastic, and his demeanor very professional. He and his guys did a great job on my Honey Mesquitte, and were cleaned up and out of here within about an hour. I was very nervous about hiring somebody to trim our Mesquite trees because a couple of years ago my husband hired some guys based solely on the cheapest price and they completely butchered one of our mesquite trees which resulted in a lopsided mess that I am surprised the tree survived. The old adage "you get what you pay for" is definitely true. Needless to say, I did not have them touch any other trees on our property. So, although our trees were now seriously overgrown and monsoon season was upon us, I was really hesitant to have that tree and our others trimmed. I didn't want to make the same mistake again. So, I convinced my husband to pay more and hire a tree specialist. I mean it is not a wise investment to spend 15 years growing a tree only to have it hacked to pieces because it is momentarily less expensive. In the long run, trees are valuable assets of your home and it is really worth spending more to get someone who truly knows what they are doing. I did my research on Angie's List, Yelp and NextDoor. That led me to Mike Macchiaroli Tree Company. He had other great reviews and plenty of "before" and "after" photos in which I could see that the trees still looked like trees afterwards. I had Mike and a couple of other companies come out to give me bids on the project. Mike was not cheap or the cheapest by any means, but he really knew what he was talking about when we walked our yard looking at the trees and I decided to go with him. I am so happy that I did. I can honestly say that Mike Macchiaroli is a true craftsman/arborist. He really knows his trees. He even made my large lopsided, previously-butchered tree come back to life. It is finally starting to look like a normal, healthy tree again. All of our trees look beautiful! They are healthy and thriving. I am sooooo glad that I found Mike and that we used his service! I am including "before" and "after" photos of our trees so that you can see the end results and judge for yourselves. The photos helped me immensely when I was making my decision. I am beyond devastated by the loss of my saguaro after paying this company $450 to replant and…read morecover it. I encourage everyone to think twice before using this company. Despite the text message below not stating that bracing was included in the cost of re-planting, Miguel stated that the saguaro was healthy, had good roots and would be fine without bracing. He deducted $50 off the quoted price because he was not going to brace it. When I asked Miguel about covering the cactus to prevent further sun damage he told me it was not included. I trusted Miguel and paid the $450. As you can see in the attached photos, the cactus broke near where the saguaro was strapped to the wench / lift. It appears to me that the stress from being strapped combined with the saguaro not being braced caused the break. I contacted the company as soon as I saw that the cactus had broken and fallen. I was advised by the woman who answered the phone that she was referencing the text message agreement and they followed the agreement. I told her that they did not follow the agreement because the cactus wasn't covered and that Miguel had deducted $50 for not bracing it. She told me that she did not know about the deduction and stated that Miguel would call me back. After not hearing from Miguel for a week, I called again. The woman and I had the same conversation and she again stated that Miguel would call me. Weeks have passed without response from Miguel. I'm disappointed in the follow through of this company. My observation is that they will respond quickly to new work, but they lack integrity when things go wrong. I apologize to anyone who used them at my recommendation.

The brickwork that was put in by the previous owners was not level. And I needed to be pulled up.They were able to level the ground and patio. Miguel installed a drain line and a French drain. This moves the water away from the house and gives it a place to go. He added a pony wall that serves as a bench and also a small retaining wall to help divert water away from the pool, and keep rocks from being kicked into the pool pair.He if we removed old brickwork and installed new bricks with a nice border to make it look seamless A nd inviting into the backyard, He refreshed our our ground covering rocks front and back. He moved some decorative boulders and also trimmed up the yard.And removed some bushes. He and his crew were on time. Communicated well and cleaned up after themselves.
