Stopped by for happy hour and got the sushi combo along with 2 orders of the red snapper. The red snapper was definitely the highlight, really fresh and flavorful. The rest of the sushi was good, but a lot of the pieces tasted pretty similar to each other. It was pretty empty when I went since it wasn't long after opening, and there was only one staff member who was also the sushi chef. Service wasn't bad, but I did feel like I had to flag him down a few times since he was rarely out on the floor. The space itself seems like it would be really cozy and fun during peak hours with the full bar atmosphere. I'd probably come back at night next time to fully enjoy the experience and vibe. read more

Small and unassuming front on wilshire near the intersection with La Brea offering decent sushi and other Japanese dishes are very reasonable price prices. My family and I have come here a few times, they're happy hours are from 3 PM to 10 PM! A number of Rose, appetizers, and other items are on special pricing menu. On weekdays, there's usually very few other guests, so we get great service! I would say their sushi is at par with most other places nearby of similar price point. Because it's not a super popular joint, the dining environment is usually very quiet and pleasant. I think their best item is the rock 'n' roll, and the clam miso soup. Jessica albacore and baked salmon. Roll are also popular items. The cherry blossom roll is good too, but very similar to Jessica albacore, so if you order one, I wouldn't recommend ordering the other. I wouldn't say it is a spectacular place, but if you want a quiet dinner without breaking the bank, and you want sushi, this is a good choice. read more

I came looking for a happy hour and found this place on yelp. Its by wilshire and labrea cross streets. There are signs for free parking in the back but I grabbed a meter on the side. I came in around 5 and the place was empty. There was a guy sitting in the back, seems like he didn't know English The ambiance was weird, it was empty inside and he lingered at the bar until I turned around to signal him to take my order. I dont know, I was just ready to go. He took my order promptly and the hot sake for $6 was a good price. As I was looking at the menu, the older guy approached the table took them out of my hand and stacked them on the side. He did not say anything but i told him i was still looking. I then ordered the vegetable tempura and the Aloha roll. Vegetable tempura did not have much taste, I pretty much drenched it in the dipping sauce. Looking at the menu again, he walked up and grabbed them to stack on the side and im thinking dude, what is the deal. The Aloha roll fish was bland, not my favorite bite and Im sad I didnt go to another sushi spot. I had no desire to order anything further. Quick note, the drink specials depend on you buying food. We went in here and there was no one so we decided to sit down because it was happy hour. The prices for happy hour was only like $4 off the original roll price but I was expecting like half off. This place is honestly one of the greatest spots in mid-Wilshire. If you're lucky enough to be in the area, I HIGHLY suggest stopping in for their happy hour which is EVERY DAY. Unassuming spot. I lived nearby for 2 years but haven't been here before and finally decided to check it out. There's a daily happy hour from 3-10pm with a lot of options. We got the Sapporo pitcher and sake combo, chefs choice sashimi combo, the Ariyoshi crunch roll, and the yellowtail collar. Aside from those items on the HH menu we also got a spicy tuna salad and sweet shrimp nigiri. More than enough for two people. Quite full actually. Writing this 5 star review for the $1 sake but honestly it's worth the 5 stars even if they didn't have that offer. Ambiance is fairly quiet. Please be aware, they are charging $3 higher on every single item compared to the menu they have on the website and all online order forms. I placed an order via phone and they were very quick, said it would be ready in 15 minutes. I asked on the phone what the total would be just to make sure and she hesitated for a long time and then just said "the system is down" so she couldn't tell me the total. I guess that should've been a red flag. I can understand a little bit of price inflation for things like actual sushi, but 3 sad little egg rolls that were probably frozen and quickly fried should not be anywhere near $8. The specialty rolls were tasty, but very unevenly cut (not cut all the way through, and drastically different sizes) and fell apart right away. The salmon sushi was just slabs of salmon very oddly cut on small mounds of rice. It felt more like I was eating a salmon filet from a grocery store than prepared sushi. Maybe it's worth it to go to their 7 hour long "happy hour," but when I went to pick it up, there were only 2 tables occupied in the very quiet and dark restaurant. And a dog laying on the ground in the middle. If I'm going to pay $17 per roll of sushi, I'm going to go somewhere fresher. Sorry! read more

Right off the bat, I noticed that they do not list the price of the menu items on the menu. I ordered 2 tacos (Galbi and the Bulgogi) and OMGEE, my eyes were shocked to see the bill of $37.13. Anyway, since it's my 1st time here, I thought, "ok, let's just try it and see if the quality and/or portion justifies the price. 1. Galbi Tacos (3.5/5): Galbi is basically marinated short ribs that's diced up. The flavor of the meat itself was good - tender, flavorful and slightly charred. It is topped heavily with a bed of Cole slaw, onion, cilantro and some creamy, tangy mayo-like sauce. I think the amount of toppings outweigh the meat portions, so it's not well-balanced at all. 2. Bulgogi Tacos (3.5/5) Rating the bulgogi meat itself, I would give it a 4 out of 5 stars, as the thinly sliced rib eye was marinated well in the bulgogi seasoning, which is umami-rich, garlicky and nutty from the sesame oil & sesame seeds. Like the other taco, the ratio of meat to toppings (slaw, onion, cilantro) is off. Of note, the corn tortilla for the tacos were very dry and easily tore apart, so it made eating the tacos super messy and quite a pain since they do not give you any utensils. I ended up ditching the taco shells and just eating the insides. Lastly, the limes they gave me with my tacos were completely dried, rendering them useless to dress my tacos (smirk). Even though each taco order comes with 2 tacos, $18/order for street-taco truck quality tacos and where the amount of Cole slaw outweighs the amount of meat ... this is just a bit too much. Sorry to say, but I will not be coming back. There's too many other restaurants in the area competing for my business.

While many restaurants have come and go, Robata Jinya kept changing with the time. For example, they used to close at 2pm to get ready for dinner. Now they have extended their hours and this is my favorite spot to take a late lunch because their lunch specials and happy hour menu overlap. This lunch size servie of ramen and two spicy tuna crispy rice is less than $20 ($16 during the time of this review.) It is a bit harder to find that price for lunch in this area with the quality and amount of food you are getting. Food and drinks are still top notch here. There is a lychee martini that I highly recommend where they infuse it with lychee smoke in a bubble.

The lychee martini is a must try. It comes with a huge smoke filled bubble on top, and is not too sweet. The interior is nice with some interesting samurai artifacts and wood beam ceilings. Recommend!

I gave them a chance to right the wrong and they flat out rejected it. Definitely will not be going back. Waste of hard-earned money.

I've been coming here for the past two years, and their quality is stayed consistently high, if not even improving! They also have an amazing cocktail menu (which is more unusual for dim sum spots) and weekday lunch special menu from 12-3 PM, which features select dim sum and traditional Chinese dish combos at VERY affordable prices (all under $20). Honestly, everything I've tried on every visit has been AMAZING, but I highly recommend asking your waiter for recommendations and specials, since I've been able to try so many new dishes that I probably wouldn't have ever ordered.
