Unfriendliness + Unprofessionalism = Dampened Spirits During Wedding Weekend -Look Elsewhere for your Special Day
It pains me to write this review as I am an Ithaca local and once loved Argos. It's beautifully charming but after a year tirelessly planning our wedding, what we experienced on the business and customer service side of Argos nearly ruined our wedding reception. It's been a month and a half since the events below transpired and Argos has made no attempt to remedy the situation.
I began correspondence with Argos back in Sept. of 2015 for our July 2016 wedding. In that time they went through multiple event managers and front of house managers. I was looking for a place where we could not only stay overnight, but people could congregate the night before our wedding and after the reception. Argos was pricey, but we managed to secure a discount for reserving as a package deal. However, during this exchange, the interactions with the staff trended towards the dispensability of our business. We felt unvalued.
The first disappointment was the unfriendliness of the front desk staff. We were aware of the policy of no early check in but by the time we checked in, we had been met with multiple accounts of curt diffusion of our attempts to ask for small accommodations because of complications with schedules. The front desk attendant walked me to my room. The whole way to she complained about how many people had tried calling that day for early check-ins, which is a benchmark of unprofessionalism. That was just a primer of the attitude we received the rest of the weekend. I had several people ask me what the problem at the front desk was, that even the littlest request was met with annoyance and attitude. My photographer even felt personally snubbed at points. I came down shortly after, dressed for our big day. The front desk attendant pointedly ignored me; not a single word or congratulatory remark. I felt unwelcome and the vibe there was not fitting of a joyous wedding day. We headed off to our venue and had a beautiful, fun-filled wedding, that is until we returned to Argos for the after party.
From the very beginning of negotiations, it was agreed upon that the bar would close at normal hours (10 pm) the evening before our wedding (Friday) and have extended hours until midnight the night of our wedding (Saturday). We had our wedding guests RSVP to meet us for drinks on Friday as well as for the after party on Saturday so that we could let Argos know how many people to expect in planning for stocking the bar. Three weeks before the wedding I wrote to the events manager and reconfirmed the bar closing times and gave a headcount for each night. We left our venue on Saturday night around 9:30pm, shortly after the shuttle bus of our guests left for Argos. We began receiving frantic texts from guests saying they'd arrived at Argos and they were being turned away from the bar as it was 10pm and they were closed. I was fuming. I was told there was no record of the request for the bar to stay open late that night, to which I became very upset. It was embarrassing to have my wedding guests see me lose my cool but it was such a huge mistake, one I had taken the precautions to prevent. I was very disappointed by how our guests staying at the Inn had been treated the whole weekend. A quarter of our wedding guests had already made their way to other bars. Thankfully I knew one of the bartenders and he chose to offer beer and wine while things got sorted. Sure enough after speaking to the events manager and owner it was determined that I did indeed request to have the bar stay open until midnight and that it was their oversight. By the end of the process, the attempts at recompence were too little to late. It was 11:15 at this time.
Our wedding night was nearly ruined, and it certainly was forever tainted. I heard nothing from the Argos, even a week after. No apology other than the bartender who saved the night. The only logical next step was to talk directly to the owner. After emails and check ins, it's been a month and a half since our wedding weekend and it's just feeling like no one there gives a damn. I heard that one of the other bartender was accusing our guests of drinking all of their inventory, despite our confirmations and head counts many weeks out. We still have received no apology and no resolution. So much money spent and such inexcusable service.
During negotiations, the events manager complained about her job and her position. She tried to accuse me of lack of information from my end, to which I reminded her that I confirmed everything with her weeks before. She pulled up those emails and realized that she had ignored. The fact that Argos has done nothing to right this wrong is hard to believe. But is surely has tainted my desire to step foot back in there. Through my job, I used to send them lots of business but that will have to change. I wouldn't wish my experiences on any wedding couple. read more
