Always wanted to try this place. It's much smaller on the inside than I expected. The music was loud but then again, it is a bar. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. The food was average. We had burgers and hotdogs and chili cheese fries. The chili was pretty yummy. Hotdogs were almost hot enough. If we go back, we will probably order something different. The loud ambience will probably keep us from a return trip. But if that's your jam, this is the place for you. Service was good. read more

Went there for a fish dinner. The service was great and fish ok but....they had a few gaming machines and the girl that was playing it was actually screaming to the top of her voice. It was so disturbing it ruined our evening. Spoke to management but they did nothing. So we will do nothing and never go back. Great little off the grid kinda bar that my wife & I like. We were here on a Sunday afternoon on a bike and someone told us to stop by and I'm glad we did. Ordered the special on Sunday of a chili hot dog($1.00) & ordered an order of Hog Wings & a blue cheese burger. Well let me tell you all was very good & my wife & I split it all. First time and it certainly won't be the last. I had the Danwood with hot peppers processed weekly onsite... oh wow. Friends had chicken enchilada soup....EXCELLENT and a chicken salad served in a retro pyrex serving dish...and he ate every bite! Decor is retro with astounding chalk artwork on opposing boards...you have to see it to believe it. Wait staff is beyond friendly and professional. The food is really good. The grilled fries, tavern ham sandwich, and salads are awesome! The bartenders are great, especially Lilly. Michelle does awesome chalk drawings and it adds a really cool ambiance to the otherwise "meh" establishment. The beer selection is lacking. Would love to see some more IPAs. Don't go for trivia. The owner assists teams in cheating. It really takes away from the fun of trivia when he's helping half the bar answer. The trivia master is really good, but unfortunately the owner decides who he would like to win. If you're looking for trivia, go to Champs on Tuesday nights. It's managed much better and a better prize. It's worth coming back in the future, just not for trivia night. read more

Absolutely love the Argonne! My fiancé & I don't get there super often since we live in Altoona but we do like to go in Sunday's occasionally. It is standard bar food but it's delicious food. They always have food 'specials' that are totally worth it and their standard menu is pretty extensive for a small bar. The artwork is done by one of their own waitresses and a local guy, which adds a cool touch. We always go in & admire how neat it is. They have good beers on tap and when I ask the bartender to make me something fruity, the drinks are alway bomb! I recommend coming here if you're looking to watch some sports and chill. The only downfall is how tiny the place is.. it doesn't make a lot of room for people. This isn't something that can be helped though so I wouldn't say it's a big downfall. read more

Great little bar/restaurant. Trivia nights are fun. The food is great. Service is always great. Not a lot of seating, but that never seems to be a problem. Although it has more of a bar atmosphere, my kids love to go here. It just has a comfortable vibe. I love spending my money at local places so this is on my list. read more

My husband and I live about a mile from the Argonne Cafe so we go here pretty often and have never had a bad meal. In fact, this is one of our favorite go to places. From the burgers to the salads to the home made soups to the FABULOUS homemade baked mac and cheese, it is a wonderful place to get a quality meal. The atmosphere is one of a small hometown hole in the wall bar, with a modern decor. Most of the diners are locals and the servers pretty much know everyone in the joint, which gives it that much more of a friendly feel. They have a few TVs as well, so we have gone there on Sundays to watch football or hockey games as well. They have a full bar and all the drinks are reasonably priced. All in all, it is a amazing hidden gem in Hollidaysburg that always hits the spot. read more

Every time we visit my wife's sister and her husband in Holidaysburg I insist we to go The Argonne. It's great bar food with some nice touches that set it apart. For example I love how the salads are served in a square pyrex casserole dish. Then there's the Danwood sandwich made with the owner's homemade hot peppers - with the heat just right. I recommend ordering it "Jim's Way" with extra cheese and hot peppers. They also have a great selection of stuffed burgers and the onion rings are fabulous. The portions are very generous and we always leave with leftovers. I have never had a cocktail there but they have a nice selection of craft beers on tap which you might not expect in a neighborhood bar. The patrons are friendly and it seems like it would be a great place to watch the Steelers on Sundays. I am always surprised with reasonable prices when we get our check. read more

My go to neighborhood bar. The beer list is good and always changing and the staff is friendly. Try the hog wings on Sunday's. You won't be sorry. A wide variety of customers and always a warm atmosphere. Stop in Thursday's for a great trivia night, but get there early cause it fills the place up! I wanted to try this place since it changed hands recently. I have to say it was rather disappointing. The service was sub-par as the waitress helped other (I'm guessing regular) customers first who arrived 10-15 minutes after we did. They got their order way before us and we got there 10-15 minutes before they arrived? Hmmmm... Our table was kind of dirty and the food was.... well... unremarkable. The fries and onion rings obviously came right out of a freezer bag and our sandwiches were rather bland and ordinary. I noticed after several bites that my french fries tasted like fish. Maybe they need to change the oil in the fryer more often?? I don't know, but it was kind of gross. On a positive note, the prices were reasonable and micro brew selection was okay. Prices aside, do yourself a favor and head over to Al's Tavern in Altoona instead. I don't think I'll be going back here. Sorry. read more

This is a great little local bar. The staff is friendly and the bar food is yummy. As a sometimes vegetarian, I like that they introduced a vegetarian sub not too long ago, and there is also a sauteed greens option (dish or side) which is tasty. The portions are quite large for the very reasonable price, and they always have interesting beers. Some of my friends and I are regulars to the trivia night on Thursday, and trust me, we can be pretty picky. read more

We were there the other night and I was impressed. You have the locals and they seem friendly enough but you can tell the people care about the "outsiders" too. The service was outstanding, I asked them to put a game on for me and they did which always makes my day. The food was a severe contrast to most in the area in that it was actually well done.
