We came to Jack & Georges from Yelp! We were looking for a quick stop since we were traveling with a toddler and it was getting late. The place definitely felt like a local favorite. It was packed. We were greeted and seated immediately. Our server was wonderful even though it was only her second day. The food was exactly what we were expecting and overall we were happy with our choices. I did give this restaurant a 3/5 for how chaotic the restaurant felt. They made a couple take their drinks and belongings and move to a different table so we didn't have to sit at a high top with a toddler which we appreciated but aAlso, 3 different waitresses delivered 3 wrong food items to our table. read more

We stopped into Jack & George's when we first got to Altoona and it hit the spot. The dining area is roomy with a nice long bar and even a fireplace for colder months, which adds a cozy touch. We sat at a high top and had quick, straightforward service from our waitress, which we appreciated. We ordered a draft beer and a cosmo, both came out fast and were solid. Shared the small crispy chicken salad which came with two sides of Thousand Island, a nice touch, and the fries were piled on since we split them. I had the Cajun chicken sandwich and it had a good kick from the seasoning and chipotle aioli. It's definitely one of the highlights of Altoona if you're passing through. read more

I had the biggest bacon cheeseburger I have seen anywhere. It was immense. The fresh cuts and the onion rings were done to perfection. The service was quick and excellent The ambience is OK. The restaurant is in an older home set has a very nice bar and very nice dining room rooms. I have definitely put this place on my return to list my return to Altoona in the future read more

New to Altoona, Jack &Georges was on my list of recommended local eateries. Did not disappoint, my buffalo chicken salad was large and delicious. Blue Cheese dressing is definitely home made. Dad said his onion rings were the best he ever had. Looks like a great place to be during football season! . Service was very quick as we we there mid afternoon but the waitress was helpful and very pleasant. read more

The food and service are amazing! Made sure to save room for the homemade desserts! Love the bartenders as well!

Great food. Very nice atmosphere. I have never had a bad meal at Jack & George's. Lots of parking available.

Went to dinner here. Service was amazing. Dana the bar tender was so nice and caring. Had the wings and the steak salad. Both were OK. Steak was not very good. HOWEVER, the snickers cake was mindblowing. If this cake was sold at a Manhattan bakery, it would be all over instagram and there would be a line for people wanting to buy it. The cake was a 5 star. read more

This place is hit or miss. I tried the meatball sub twice here it the first time was cooked great but the next time it was barely cooked and barely any Marinara. Other times I got garlic parm wings but I got a whole clove or garlic in my wing basket. And the chicken tenders are always overcooked. The appetizers are probably the best thing to get here. read more

Absolutely amazing food! Was in town for a day, had Dr. appointment at 8am & got told I had to have another at 3pm. So I decided to find a good lunch. Boy did I! Staff, especially bartender delivered EXCEPTIONAL service! Food was delicious! I went with Cheeseburger sliders and 6 wings. Everything was excellent. Especially the Teriyaki Garlic wings! If you're in town looking for a good meal with excellent service, this is the best place in Altoona. Which if you've ever been to Altoona you know nice people are hard to find in that town!! This place was a breath of fresh air!! Food was 8/10 Service was 10/10 exceptional! I gave her the biggest tip I've ever given anyone. My bill was $26. Her tip was $20! read more

It's a seat yourself kinda atmosphere. I like how they play more than one football game do you have options! The wings I asked for extra crispy were still a little gummy. The mild sauce is more peppery than an actual mild sauce. I will say the service was good and the pepperoni rolls were sooooooo good!! I definitely recommend them as an appetizer! read more

You can't go wrong with this place!!! Everything is great! Service is quick and huge portions!!!

This place is off the beaten path and tucked away in a dense residential neighborhood near 17th street. We just recently stumbled across this place and were pleasantly surprised we've missed it all these years. It has plenty of offstreet parking areas adjacent to the building. It's similar to a lot of "hole in the wall" bar/restaurants in the Altoona area and that's a compliment. It was once a smaller restaurant in a house but it appeared to be recently expanded and remodeled. It has a great rustic sports bar aesthetic with tv's throughout. The bar area and entrance is separate from the main restaurant which makes it great for families with large seating options. The menu has a lot of "small" or "large" portion options. A small option is meant for one person and is a lot of food. The "large" portion has to be huge and I'm guessing it would feed the family. Service on our visits has been great. Fresh cuts fries are delicious. We typically try the wings, burgers or salads. They also have various in-house desserts. Prices are very reasonable. We've only visited a few times but we've really enjoyed the atmosphere, food and service. read more

Came here from Yelp ratings. Server was new and we honestly don't think she had ever worked as a server before. Nice girl but clueless. Food came out Helter skelter! Party of six, all getting meals randomly. I was nearly done eating, and we had asked several times where my husband's meal was. Finally sandwich arrived apparently cook had burnt the bun The food was good but holy cow! read more

Food was incredible. And the staff is always very attentive! Sometimes the parking is a little rough but definitely worth it.

My mom and I stopped here when traveling through Altoona in the spring. As non-locals we relied entirely on Yelp and the kind words of past visitors to help us pick a dining spot. Well, I'm happy to report that your reviews were right: this place was great! We ate here between the lunch and dinner rushes, so there was plenty of room to sit (and social distance). A waitress came over to get us settled almost immediately, and we didn't have to wait long for our food, either. Between the two of us, we sampled a burger, a roast beef sandwich, salad, and soup. We were both very happy with our choices. My mom enjoyed her mini sandwich and soup special, which was the perfect size for a traveler who didn't want leftovers sitting too long in her car. My burger was a massive and messy delight - and, to be clear, I mean messy in a good way! It had been so long since I had a good burger, so my meal was nothing sort of a treat. We also both loved Jack & Georges' fries - very fresh, very hot, and seasoned well while not overwhelming the natural potato flavor. Between the great food and great service, my mom and I would definitely stop here again while visiting or traveling by Altoona. And next time we'll try to save room for dessert, because the restaurant's desserts looked delicious! read more

To the point. There is no way that everyone who gave this place 5 stars is being honest (stop inflating reviews because people actually listen to these recommendations). I came here because of the high rankings. This place is a disaster. First, the place is unfinished and appears to just be that way (there is subfloor exposed all over and aging caution cones to warn customers of random uneven floors). The service is like a 3/10. The staff was nice but they just left my beer waiting on the bar and actually put dirty dishes like 3 inches away from it. The food was terrible. I ordered a chicken cheesesteak at the recommendation of the staff. I could not take more than a few bites it was bad. Like overcooked mushy food covered with American cheese and random lettuce and tomato. The fries weren't terrible. Honestly the best part of this place was the bathroom. My son had to go and I was expecting a horror show but it was surprisingly clean. read more

This was my third try since the last owners took over. The food each time was mediocre at best. Our server was great! She took back the crab cake sandwich (which was black, dry, and hard) and replaced it with homemade pot pie. It was better but had very thick noodles and could have had more flavor even though the ham was generous. The group I was with was about 50/50 regarding their satisfaction. That said, our group has decided to go elsewhere and not return. read more

Got a steak salad here in October 2025 and wow! Just wow! Best steak salad ever and I'm 69!

Folks highly recommended Jack & George's and i was really looking forward to a pleasant meal. I wasn't sure what to get so to be safe, I ordered a cheeseburger with a side of onion rings. Everything looked amazing but it wasn't. As other reviewers mentioned, the burger was overcooked and flavorless. The onion rings were hard and more batter than onion. I used almost a whole squeeze bottle of ketchup to soften the rings and ultimately left many untouched. My plastic cup had a heavily damaged rim and should have been replaced. I don't normally drink with a straw but had to this evening. Ashley, my server, seemed to have my table and one other but she still wasn't around much. When I asked for my check, I watched her go to her computer and eat for several minutes before bringing my check. Overall, I think most fast food burgers taste better and the onion rings were terrible. I noticed while I was waiting for my check that another server was collecting menus from a nearby table and also had a daily specials menu which I was never offered. Not having much luck in Altoona so maybe I'll try a chain place for supper tomorrow. read more

Listen, from the outside, this place is questionable. Once my family and I stepped inside, completely flabbergasted. This place is warm and welcoming. And on top of it all, the food is BEYOND STELLAR. My 2 year olds "7 inch" mini pizza was between 10 and 12 inches and tasted better than most NY pizza. My Beef Sandwich had about 2"-3" of meat across the entire sandwich. Like, how is this only $11?? Seemed like 1/2 of meat at least. The wife's sliders were outstanding. Fresh and nicely seasoned. I didn't taste the mini melt, but I think it was pretty well thought of by how quickly it disappeared. All in all, we would come here again 10/10. read more

Found this place right here on Yelp and it was awesome! My mother got the mozzarella sticks and they were different but very good! My wife got the "small" chicken salad and it was a good size portion! I went with the Philly cheese steak and it was very good! The waitress was very nice and friendly as well. The portions were big and the prices were very fair. If I am ever in the area again I would definitely come back! read more
