We stopped into Jack & George's when we first got to Altoona and it hit the spot. The dining area is roomy with a nice long bar and even a fireplace for colder months, which adds a cozy touch. We sat at a high top and had quick, straightforward service from our waitress, which we appreciated. We ordered a draft beer and a cosmo, both came out fast and were solid. Shared the small crispy chicken salad which came with two sides of Thousand Island, a nice touch, and the fries were piled on since we split them. I had the Cajun chicken sandwich and it had a good kick from the seasoning and chipotle aioli. It's definitely one of the highlights of Altoona if you're passing through.

Went to dinner here. Service was amazing. Dana the bar tender was so nice and caring. Had the wings and the steak salad. Both were OK. Steak was not very good. HOWEVER, the snickers cake was mindblowing. If this cake was sold at a Manhattan bakery, it would be all over instagram and there would be a line for people wanting to buy it. The cake was a 5 star.

Absolutely amazing food! Was in town for a day, had Dr. appointment at 8am & got told I had to have another at 3pm. So I decided to find a good lunch. Boy did I! Staff, especially bartender delivered EXCEPTIONAL service! Food was delicious! I went with Cheeseburger sliders and 6 wings. Everything was excellent. Especially the Teriyaki Garlic wings! If you're in town looking for a good meal with excellent service, this is the best place in Altoona. Which if you've ever been to Altoona you know nice people are hard to find in that town!! This place was a breath of fresh air!! Food was 8/10 Service was 10/10 exceptional! I gave her the biggest tip I've ever given anyone. My bill was $26. Her tip was $20!

It's a seat yourself kinda atmosphere. I like how they play more than one football game do you have options! The wings I asked for extra crispy were still a little gummy. The mild sauce is more peppery than an actual mild sauce. I will say the service was good and the pepperoni rolls were sooooooo good!! I definitely recommend them as an appetizer!

This place is off the beaten path and tucked away in a dense residential neighborhood near 17th street. We just recently stumbled across this place and were pleasantly surprised we've missed it all these years. It has plenty of offstreet parking areas adjacent to the building. It's similar to a lot of "hole in the wall" bar/restaurants in the Altoona area and that's a compliment. It was once a smaller restaurant in a house but it appeared to be recently expanded and remodeled. It has a great rustic sports bar aesthetic with tv's throughout. The bar area and entrance is separate from the main restaurant which makes it great for families with large seating options. The menu has a lot of "small" or "large" portion options. A small option is meant for one person and is a lot of food. The "large" portion has to be huge and I'm guessing it would feed the family. Service on our visits has been great. Fresh cuts fries are delicious. We typically try the wings, burgers or salads. They also have various in-house desserts. Prices are very reasonable. We've only visited a few times but we've really enjoyed the atmosphere, food and service.

My mom and I stopped here when traveling through Altoona in the spring. As non-locals we relied entirely on Yelp and the kind words of past visitors to help us pick a dining spot. Well, I'm happy to report that your reviews were right: this place was great! We ate here between the lunch and dinner rushes, so there was plenty of room to sit (and social distance). A waitress came over to get us settled almost immediately, and we didn't have to wait long for our food, either. Between the two of us, we sampled a burger, a roast beef sandwich, salad, and soup. We were both very happy with our choices. My mom enjoyed her mini sandwich and soup special, which was the perfect size for a traveler who didn't want leftovers sitting too long in her car. My burger was a massive and messy delight - and, to be clear, I mean messy in a good way! It had been so long since I had a good burger, so my meal was nothing sort of a treat. We also both loved Jack & Georges' fries - very fresh, very hot, and seasoned well while not overwhelming the natural potato flavor. Between the great food and great service, my mom and I would definitely stop here again while visiting or traveling by Altoona. And next time we'll try to save room for dessert, because the restaurant's desserts looked delicious!

    Bacon cheeseburger and onion rings

Folks highly recommended Jack & George's and i was really looking forward to a pleasant meal. I wasn't sure what to get so to be safe, I ordered a cheeseburger with a side of onion rings. Everything looked amazing but it wasn't. As other reviewers mentioned, the burger was overcooked and flavorless. The onion rings were hard and more batter than onion. I used almost a whole squeeze bottle of ketchup to soften the rings and ultimately left many untouched. My plastic cup had a heavily damaged rim and should have been replaced. I don't normally drink with a straw but had to this evening. Ashley, my server, seemed to have my table and one other but she still wasn't around much. When I asked for my check, I watched her go to her computer and eat for several minutes before bringing my check. Overall, I think most fast food burgers taste better and the onion rings were terrible. I noticed while I was waiting for my check that another server was collecting menus from a nearby table and also had a daily specials menu which I was never offered. Not having much luck in Altoona so maybe I'll try a chain place for supper tomorrow.

Reading reviews and some magazine articles, I was drawn to this place when visiting (a very barren…read moreand depressing, but historically important, downtown of) Altoona during the holidays. Cutting to the chase, the brown ale was good, definitely merits the 4+ ratings on beer sites, no doubt. Brewery part of the stop was well-executed. Food took things in a very wrong direction.... Concern being that I ordered a simple mac n' cheese (I guess "large" size - $13.50, what?), adding some "famous pulled pork," which ended up being $16.50 or something along those lines - I received a MICRO, emphasizing MICRO order of mac n' cheese in a small bowl that probably cost them $1.25 to make - great, flavors were just very average and they seemed to be all jazzed that it came with chopped jalapeno on the top. Fancy, y'all. Cost-wise, one pint of beer and this incredibly tiny meal cost over $30, post-tip (still hooked them up) in a dead downtown that frankly needs all the business it can get. Got gas one the outskirts and the strip malls are absolutely surging, which would usually be a major bummer for me, but honestly not in this case after getting econo-slammed. I was honestly shocked there weren't those neon signs in cursive that said stuff like "chow down, chug down," grass on the vertical wall, and other basic things, but I was probably too preoccupied by the fact that every table had "hold for reservation" and I wasn't pointed to sit places, with the bar being full and all, until I asked. Summary - MID, MID, MID food that's in small portions that is an absolute shill in 2025, in a community that's on it's downside economically. So frustrating that places like this are highly-touted.

The house brewed Belgian Blonde was one of the best beers I've had all year! We also tried two PA wines, Mazza Cabernet Franc and the house Chardonnay. Both were excellent. Schweety had the beef panini with fries. The roasted red peppers on the sandwich really made it special and the cheese on the fries was SO good! My pasta featured perfectly cooked pasta, grilled chicken, diced mushrooms and creamy sauce and also came with a wonderful side salad. So glad we found this hidden gem.

We sat near the window and waited for service for quite awhile until a manager (hat, glasses, tie) came over and apologized and sent a waitress to us. We ordered a margherita flatbread to share as an appetizer. This was good - I would have liked to have more basil on the top - whether more of the chopped or whole leaves. This really adds to the margherita style of pizza. Overall good - and highly quality cheese. I ordered the cacio de Pepe for my entree which comes with a house salad. The salad dressing was good - a light dressing and the lettuce had almonds and cranberries on it. The cacio de Pepe was very good - the pasta was cooked properly and the flavor was on-point. Very good take on an often-overlooked dish. For dessert, I ordered the blackberry cheesecake - which was good, but the bottom crust was way too thick and was hard to cut with the spoon even with me applying all the pressure I could. The waitress ended up taking the pizza off the bill for our wait at the beginning. She was attentive but there were some lulls in service where we could have kept the meal moving and cleared the table quicker for their benefit. Good place - worth a try!
