This is a traditional tavern type restaurant with bar. It's near my office so I go "regularly". First two times were just ok. I had fish and chips, fish was average but the fresh cut french fries are DELICIOUS. Meatball Parmesan sandwich was meh; sauce very good, meatballs just ok. Nachos are really good, fresh ingredients, good chips and big portion. Then I tried them Bleu Cheese Delight sandwich. This ifs one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. Pumpernickel bread with a dijon spread topped with broccoli, shredded carrots and purple cabbage topped with provolone cheese and boy cured dressing drizzled on top with red onions. Looks like a neighborhood tap, but with dozens of fancy IPAs, with several of them on tap. Great music on the house sound - at decent listening while conversing levels. Menu is full of exquisite entrees, big nod toward vegetarian offerings. I'm a carnivore, but my go-to is the baked black bean burger (can you say BBBB) with waffle fries with both the cheese sauce and a side of their house raspberry/ginger salad dressing. also excellent coffee, and they bring the French press right to the table to let us watch it steep. My partner and I decided to try Boxer's based on it's PA-style sandwich menu and reputation for inclusiveness; as an LGBTQ+ family, we were tired of the stares and wanted to go to a place where we knew we'd blend in. The decor was cute, with a refreshingly socially conscious spin. The server was quick, efficient, and welcoming; we felt like any other customer and appreciated the attentive service. Score! My partner needed to use the restroom before we headed out, so she headed to the door marked "women", which is what folks who identify as such tend to do. An okder woman--who I later learned was a regular--wrong bathroomed my partner, which happens every now and then; some people are friendly, if presumptuous and misguided in their bathroom policing; this woman was hostile. Chances are, we were safe, but you never know who will hear such and defend the sanctity of the toilet from a gender inappropriate pee-er. My partner, who has experienced this BS too many times to count, brushed it off; I was pissed and scared. The twist? The restaurant staff MOBILIZED to tell this person that my partner was exactly where she belonged. They shushed the offender and checked on us right away. Neither of us has ever experienced such care and righteous, heartfelt concern during such an event. They were so kind and approachable. The owner was so upset that she refunded our lunch and invited us back any time. I have never been to an establishment that went so far out of their way to do the right thing. We felt safe, respected, and seen. Other customers saw that this establishment values its diverse clientele--even at the risk of losing regulars. So, thank you Boxer's for being an oasis for local LGBTQ+ folks, POC, and folks whose beliefs don't align with small town, conservative PA. We see you. We thank you. We appreciate you. And the chicken and cheese sandwich with a side of fries? It's worth a detour to Huntingdon. We'll be back! read more

Since moving to Huntingdon in the early 2000's, Boxers has been my go-to. Traditional pub food with some creative sandwiches, many vegetarian choices, an amazing and ever-changing beer list, and homemade pie - hard to beat. First time visiting Huntingdon PA. I check around the area and picked Boxer's Café for dinner. It feel cozy and nostalgic. It feels like end of the sixty and beginning of the 70's. I had the cheese steaks and my wife had the chicken something. It had fancy name but I call it chicken tenders. We had side of fries also. Medium fries but can't eat it all (way too much). The food was good but not great (Everybody calls me a "food snob". I like what I like). I really enjoyed the food and beer. Well, on my scale, I would eat here again. The background music selection was awesome (Thanks to bartender). Most of the beer was craft beer. If you like lite beer (Bud, Miller, Coors) , This place is not for you. They do have can beer if you really need water-down beer. I stuck with German and Irish beer. If you like to watch games or somethin on TV? Forget it. No TV, just conversation and music. read more

On August 30, 2022 - if I had not have been with family I'd have gone elsewhere after seeing the anti-straight and impeach Trump bumper stickers. Let's start with the good 1) Cheese burger and chicken zucchini sandwich were both good. 2) Manager reduced the bill by $3.00 (fries) Now the bad. 1) The fried food sucked... A) Hardee's, Zaxby's etc blew the chicken tenders away... No taste and tough. B) onion rings were nasty... Taste like fish oil and they cost $7.00!!!! C) French fries were not crisp and "limp". 2) I observed both the manager (twice) and bartender eating behind the bar. IDK about PA but that is a health violation in my state. 3) I needed a knife... I walked up to the waitress/manager who was talking to a patron (local) seated while she ate soup... After a few seconds of not being acknowledged, I went and got my own silver ware. 4) Not once did she come ask if we needed anything or to bring more water. After an appointment in Huntingdon today, we stopped into Boxers Cafe for lunch. This was our 2nd visit here, and as I recall, our first visit was a good one. The place is small and seems to need a thorough cleaning. There are beer bottles along the walls for decor, and they're covered with dust. I ordered the Reuben sandwich and a small order of hand cut fries, while my wife got the fish sandwich and crab stuffed mushrooms as an appetizer. The food was very good, but the appetizer didn't come out for 25 minutes. Our sandwiches arrived 10 minutes later. Overall, the food was top quality, but the service was very slow on this visit. The waitress didn't charge us for the appetizer because she knew it took way too long for them to be brought to the table. The Reuben was very good !! read more

This place is as close to 'local watering hole' as I've ever seen. I feel that is important to remember when visiting Boxer's. People are there for good conversation. Breaded Boneless Chicken Wings with Buffalo Sauce - The menu isn't clear that these wings come with the sauce on the side. They made up for it as it seems the buffalo sauce is homemade (although I didn't confirm with staff). I had plenty of wings but would have liked more buffalo and blu cheese dipping sauce. Jalapeño Poppers - very good, appears to be made in house as well. Only downside is that the whole pepper usually pulls out on the first bite. Half falling on your lap, the other burning your mouth. I'm not one for alcohol, but I'd recommend trying a Lindemans lambic beer. The service is average, as is the cleanliness. The space is small, cramped, and loud. Again, people don't come here for a pristine, spacious interior. It's all about good conversation with old & new friends. I'll be back time and time again. read more

A business that's been around for over 25 years, with great service, and alot of fresh, made from scratch food, this place is a great diner! The food is amazing, and the menus doesn't say anything about desert. However, you eat the food, realize it was AMAZING and then get presented with the idea of desert. This place is an old haunt. Great garden salads in the summer (get the ginger dressing). Black bean burgers are a must. Craft beer selection is very good. Service is excellent.... friendly and they make you feel at home. The fries are also very good. If you see Matt, Kennedy, or Kristy here you are going to be taken care of. I was sincerely starving last night. Like hunger pangs in an empty stomach starving. Thought my buddy and I would check out Boxers ( we are in the area for oil and gas work, so everything is new for us). As we walked up to the door there was one of those "all are welcome here" signs written in Spanish, Arabic, and English, you know the kind only white liberals who live in utterly non diverse areas put in their yards to virtue signal to their other white liberal friends how tolerant they are. I had second thoughts. I don't usually visit restaurants that are overtly political in nature because that's not what I'm looking for at the end of the day. I'm looking for a good meal and a good beer- not a moralistic lecture. But like I said we were starving. So in we went. Everything looked like an average pub, with stuff written on the chalkboard, and hodgepodge on the walls and tables, so we ordered two beers and looked at the menu, which was unimpressive. Within a few minutes my buddy, wearing a "make country great again" hat (not even a MAGA hat, it's a joke about pop radio "country) was getting stared at by the staff. A guy in the kitchen was staring at him and just shaking his head disapprovingly. My buddy looked up at the chalk board, expecting a beer list, but instead found BLACK LIVES MATTER written in chalk. Upon further inspection of the paraphernalia plastered on the tables, we found literature from the SPLC regarding "hate speech"(not a thing) and global warming pamphlets. Still getting disapproving stares from the staff, we decided to finish the beer and leave without eating. Today we heard from someone who knows the owners of the bar not to tell them that we are in town for the pipeline because they would kick us out. They would KICK US OUT for being oil and gas workers. We have been supporting this business for years any time we are in town. Great food, always consistent. We each have our favorites.

This was my first time eating at this establishment and it was a slightly mediocre experience. My sister and I came here after seeing pictures of the food and entrance way. Immediately after entering we were met with an amazing vintage rock atmosphere, the bar didn't take away from the ambiance or the good vibes this place gave off. I got the Cajun Burger on an English muffin and My sister got the buffalo chicken on a roll. We also got cheese fries and pickle fries. My burger was great, very flavorful and juicy, I would highly recommend. The sandwich was less adequate, mostly breading and sauce with very little meat. As for the appetizers, the pickle fries were amazing! Very crispy and flavorful. The cheese fries were not as good but were also very tasty and very very hot. The thing that lowers this rating the most though, was the rude and inattentive waitress. She was helpful in deciding between two menu items for me but other than that was slightly rude the entire meal. She seemed bothered when I politely asked for a refill for my drink and threw our utensils on the table as she was setting it. All in all I would recommend this cafe but be wary of the buffalo chicken on a roll. read more

Awesome food but I had a difficult experience my second go. On our second visit I was with some people and one of them was under 21. I am over the age of 25 and thus the person with me could have stayed at the table with us while I ordered a beer. The waitress preceded to tell us that was illegal under the Pizza Hut Law. Me being me, looked up this law and under section 3 it clearly states that under proper supervision a minor under the age of 21 can legally be around us. She also was making references to "Hun I don't care if someone shoots heroin around me as long as it's legal" while trying to tell me that it was ILLEGAL for me to order a beer. Then when I said are you sure? Can I talk to a a manger? The bar-tender came over and verbally attacked me "Is he causing a problem???!?" So I simply said sorry I'll go elsewhere, and walked out. At-least know the LAW that you are trying to tell me about. Oh and the first time we went, a beautiful waitress by the name of Megan had no problem with serving us thus giving me the idea of a double standard. She was cool and they tried saying "she was wrong". Anyone thinking I am wrong look up the PA state codes for this specific conduct thanks. read more
