I ordered delivery so I can't speak to the service or physical space. However, the food was amazing! I ordered two empanadas- the choriqueso and the mixta with beef and cheese. I also got the tostones with cheese and the papelon con limon. It was all so tasty and really reasonably priced. Despite getting it as delivery, the food was packaged well and was still really hot when I got it. This will definitely be one of my new stops whenever I'm in the area. read more

Delicious Arepas, service was excellent and food came out hot, not warm!! Second time here and still great!! Recommend

This place is quite cheap and very high quality! From the outside, it does look like a small, hole in the wall place. The inside is pretty unassuming, too. However, this seems like a family run place which is always great. I ordered a shredded chicken empanada, 2 shredded beef empanadas, a cachapa, choriqueso empanada, and churros. I really quite liked everything! First of all, I account capitalize the value you get for this place. These empanadas are hefty and can make a decent meal in and of themselves. I especially recommend this spot if you are a student. The shredded beef empanadas were definitely my favorites. It was flavorful, filling, and the corn was not too gritty. In fact, it was more silky. The shredded chicken was also great. Neither of the meat based empanadas had chewy beef. The meat was tender and delicious. I took a risk with the choriqueso empanada, and had mixed feelings about it. If you like chorizo, definitely give it a try, since it is full of chorizo! However, I never tried chorizo, so it was an odd flavor. The cheese was great, though. The cachapa was a bit sweeter than I expected (comparing it to Cilantro and Ajo), but was still very good. It's a little small but also very inexpensive. I ordered the plain version and thought the cheese was delicious, and it had a ton of cheese. The churros were quite good as well (first time having churros). They made them right in front of me as I was picking up the order. You get 6 and a choice of sauce. They were still warm, but a bit too hard. There wasn't a whole lot of sauce on them, too, but they were still soft and tasty in the inside. Overall, this is a great value place and there is a decently large menu. Seems like an authentic Venezuelan place. I recommend trying the beef empanadas most! read more

Great place to grab a quick delicious bite. The arepas we got were so delicious. My husband was particularly happy with everything we ordered. I don't have much idea of a good vs bad arepa but was just happy that my husband and kids liked the food. I'd def recommend it and would come back here! read more

I'm happy Yelp led me to this tasty spot for a grab and go lunch near my hotel. Picked one of the beef arepas and it was stuffed with cubed steak, sauce, and cheese. Service wasn't very engaged, but I received my meal quickly and it came bagged with everything I needed to enjoy on the go. read more

This place used to be called something else but the food is the same and still delicious. It is so close to my work and the prices are so affordable for a quick lunch. So flavorful. Their guacamole creme sauce is just so good. Their tacos are amazing and a lot of different menu items. They are also on ritual app which is convenient. read more

Incredible! Five out of five! Tasty and delicious, filling, with great flavors and unique ingredients. The arepas come out steaming hot, but yet still crispy on the outside providing an amazing texture. There was a helpful team, answering questions and magically producing a vegan green sauce that made my day when I asked a question about dairy. There are a nice number of seats and tables that can be pushed together for a bigger group. The authentic music gives a festive air and made me feel like I was transported to Venezuela. read more

SO. GOOD. SC and I were walking around downtown and wanted to pick up some lunch before we headed back to the mitten. We picked Arepittas because of the positive Yelp reviews and we thought Venezuelan food sounded awesome. We've had arepas before but this was the first time we had it fresh (vs from the grocery store) and MANNN was it good! We ordered: Cachapas- sweet corn pancakes that are deep fried and filled with grilled white cheese. I've always loved sweet corn pancakes and these were AMAZING. It was crunchy, sweet, and warm and the cheese added just the right amount of savory balance Pabellon arepa- shredded beef, black beans, sweet plantains, and grated white cheese. There was everything to love about this- meat, veg, sweet and savory, all enveloped in a grilled cornmeal bread. It truly is a meal in itself (handheld too!). I got this with the cilantro sauce which was fantastic and added some creamy texture to the dish Marinera empanada- cornmeal dough fried and filled with shrimp, squid, octopus, mussels and scallops. SC thought this was well seasoned and full of seafood. Chicha Criolla- rice drink with whole milk, condensed milk, sugar, cinnamon, and spices. I got this because I love horchata and thought I would like this too. I liked that it wasn't overly sweet and had good flavor. It was unexpectedly thick, like between milkshake and milk consistency. I preferred it to be a little runnier so I waited for the ice to melt to thin it out a little. Papelon con limon- lemonade with brown cane sugar. SC liked this and thought it tasted a little like tamarind. It was tart and not overly sweet There's a variety of sauces you can choose from (one per item) including non-spicy (ie, cilantro, garlic, avocado, and a couple others) and a few spicy sauces. Definitely come check this place out if you haven't already- the food is homemade and so delicious. The family that runs Arepittas is also very friendly. Please support your local small businesses- this place is well worth it! We are looking forward to eating here again next time we're back in the area! read more

Hands down one of my favorite lunch places in Pittsburgh! This place was walking distance to me while I was in town for a conference. I needed a quick option for lunch to go between sessions and this place hit the spot. Everything is labeled if not made directly with a gluten-free corn flour mixture. This was the first time since going GF that I could have an empanada! I tried the chicken and beef. Both were cooked to a great golden brown with lots of filling. Seriously, they did not skimp on the meat! I recommend the cilantro sauce. Get one per empanada to pour into it as you're eating. Get some extra napkins because there will be extra juices and drool! Next time: I'll try another kind of empanada. read more

Good food but portion sizes can be on the smaller side depending on what you order. Food can be a bit messy

Fantastic food! So delish! Visiting Pittsburgh for a conference -- will be back next time I'm in town!

I have only the highest praise for this restaurant. Everyone needs to eat here. It is amazing! It's very unassuming, but worth the stop in read more

Arepittas - a person holding a hot dog covered in toppings - Venezuelan Near Me - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

I FINALLY tried Arepittas at the Original Pittsburgh Taco Festival, and can't wait to visit their downtown location. First impression - the employees were SO nice. A man approached us in line and gave us large laminated menus and explained what their most popular dishes were. He gave recommendations for meat tacos/arepas and vegetarian. I really appreciated that because most booths didn't have a vegetarian option. The line was long, but we started looking over the menu while we waited. I ordered 1 eggplant taco: Grilled eggplant saute with house seasoning, caramelized onion, tomatoes and guasacaca chunky. I thought the eggplant filling was unique and was excited to try it. I also got 1 vegan chorizo taco: Soy vegan sausage, sauteed with onions, peppers and tomatoes. We also tried the tres leches cake. I loved watching them make each order since they all had many ingredients. The tacos were amazing!! I loved both of them and actually was concerned for a minute that the soyrizo was actual chorizo. It was cooked perfectly. The eggplant was my favorite though! Unfortunately the tres leches cake had been sitting in the hot sun so it was very warm when I took a bite. I didn't want to risk getting sick from the milk sitting in the sun all day. I look forward to going to the restaurant soon to try an arepa with vegetarian fillings and tres leches cake. read more

I initially had my first Arepittas experience at the Taco Festival and it was love at first bite and I knew that I would visit their actual location. Two weeks ago I had lunch over there and the food was reminiscent of the taste from the festival. It's cozy little spot with amazing food. Delicious dishes. The service we received was so amazing and I will definitely be back again (really soon). They made us feel welcomed and gave us an amazing experience. Be mindful of parking based on the location (which may result in you having to pay for parking). But other than that your taste buds will not be disappointed at all. read more

If you've never had an Arepa, you need to remedy that - and there's no better place than the unassuming yet accessible (by foot or parking garage) Arepittas. I work in the Grant Building, so it was an easy walk. Venezuelan food isn't terribly far off from Mexican or Caribbean, so if you've never tried it before don't be overwhelmed. All of the dishes are explained very well on their website and their menu by the cash register. Everything is made fresh, and you can expect to wait at least 8-10 min for your food when they aren't busy - it's worth the wait. The Pabellon Criollo (National Dish) is what I got, and it was a heavy lunch which was perfect for me on this day because I was HUNGRY. The plantains are slightly sweet and compliment the beef, which is so flavorful, and the rice / beans and arepa. There are so many menu options, I plan to go back soon and sample more of what they have to offer. The seating is limited and cozy, but works for their space. Everything was clean and the employees are very accommodating, kind and and efficient. The only thing I'm upset about is that I didn't find out about this place sooner! Oh, and the tres leches cake looks legit - I'll be grabbing a piece next time! read more

Walking around Pittsburgh and stumbled across this restaurant. I've had many Arepas but this one has to be the most flavorful one. I got the pork as you can see I started eating before I even took the picture lol. Service was quick, and the restaurant is nice in the inside and had good Spanish music. I'll definitely be back to try the chicken arepa! read more

I stopped by on my lunch break on a whim. It was busy inside. While I waited for my food to be made, I sat by two young professionals. They got to flirting. Chemistry was good, body language was positive. But as the conversation dragged, the woman's food was ready. I held my breath as she grabbed her food and turned to say "well, it was nice to meet you..." I feared the worst. However, thankfully, the man asked her for her number, to which she positively obliged. I had to stop myself from clapping. Congrats you two, I hope you get married. Aside from that, that was the best Arepa I've ever had. If you don't come here for lunch, you're missing out. read more

The arepas were good, I really liked the cilantro sauce. The sauce added a good savory flavor to the meat . I got the Reina and Shrimp arepa with the Venezuelan horchata (I forgot the name of it). I personally didn't enjoy the drink it had a different cinnamon taste than I'm used to, tasted like artificial cinnamon gum. Other than the cinnamon the drink has potential! It's really thick like a watered down milkshake. I paid about $24 for everything . Make sure you come with someone if you're driving because there's no parking lot but there is limited street parking read more

I stopped in Arepittas after arriving downtown mid-afternoon and needing a light meal. After a bit of wandering I ran across Arepittas and, knowing how delicious an authentic arepa can be, decided to give it a shot. It was excellent! I like to keep things basic so the arepa Pelua (shredded beef & cheese) was calling my name. In my view you can best judge the quality of a restaurant's food through dishes with a limited amount of toppings and sauces, and I'm happy to report my arepa was delicious! The corn cakes were hot and fresh and the beef had a very nice savory flavor...definitely on a par with arepas I had while traveling in South America. So, if you know how good arepas can be or want to experience them for the first time I'd definitely recommend Arepittas! read more

A decent spot for lunch! I stopped in for a quick lunch during jury duty - great location relative to the court house. I ordered two arepas - chicken and pork. It was wayyy too much food, but it was nice to try two types. Service was quick. The dining area is small and tightly packed, so I wouldn't go with a big group. read more

I had never had Arepas (pronounced a-rape-as) or Venezuelan food at all until I moved across the street from this hidden gem. If you like chalupas, you will love Arepittas! The "bun" is kind of a fried corn pancake that is split like an English muffin. The fillings are so savory and delicious you can't go wrong. I have to hold myself back from eating these every day, they are so good! The owner is super friendly and remembers your name. He even called me by name when we randomly saw one another on the street! If you are in the neighborhood before their 4:00 pm closing time, be sure to give this place a try. read more

The pabellon arepa was truly fantastic- authentic, fresh and went great with the sauce. Quick service and great empanadas. Tried 3 different ones. All were great. Convenient to convention center and nearby hotels.

Amazing food! Empanadas were to die for. Very affordable. Mom and pop type of place - wonderful find while in town for a conference.

Our yucca fries came plain with pink sauce on the side, they did not come with cheese or garlic sauce as advertised which was a let down. We got chicken tacos and beef arepas. Everything was okay, not amazing, and not a large portion for the price. The green sauce was delicious and stole the show. read more

I have had Venezuelan food before in Miami, but this is by far the best Venezuelan restaurant I have been too! The food is amazing! I was in heaven when I was eating their food. My favorite menu item are their arepittas, delicious! And they also have home made drinks, I highly recommend their guanábana drink, delicious, refreshing and sweet! Staff are also very welcoming and friendly. They were kind enough to describe their menu items to us. Their restaurant is small but very clean. Overall, delicious food and beverages, friendly staff and very clean restaurant. Definitely will be returning here in the future! I am excited to try the rest of their menu items. read more

Ok this place is BANGIN. I got the Susanna arepa and a Tres leches (because I'm a Tres leches snob and if they have it I'm gonna try it) and they both were so freaking good I could cry. Good lunch choice! The $10 best friend combo is a great deal. You get your choice of arepa, empanada, and drink. I had the shredded beef arepa that had plantains on it and it was delicious and fresh! I also chose the shredded chicken empanada, which had great flavor. There were 2 homemade drink options (you can also choose from bottled drinks) - homemade iced tea lemonade and coffee lemonade. The first one was sweet and refreshing. You also get to choose from a number of sauces. I did the garlic and the spicy avocado, the latter was not spicy.
