On our way back from our clamming trip at ocean shores, we decided to stop by Olympia/Lacey area. The beautiful weather brought out a lot of activities. We happened to come across Arepas, which I was actually looking to try out. Thank goodness we found it!! The food was so yummy!! My favorite was the Puerco aka roasted pork arepa. It was really flavorful with different layers of texture starting from the pork, purple cabbage, tomato and the arepa. The shredded beef was packed full of meat and cheese. They did not skimp. The yucca fries and garlic butter/dipping oil was rich and delish. Sweet plantains are my faborito!! The young lady taking my order recommended the cute dessert to finish the meal and it was delish. My recommendation, this is a MUST TRY!!

Beef empanadas - way over fried

Came here on a whim after another food truck in the area wasn't open. I ordered the beef empanadas and the cubana arepa. Service was quick but also dead on a rainy Saturday afternoon. First off I dove into the empanadas that had nice flavor inside. Unfortunately, they were way over cooked and it was like eating chips there was so much crunch. Also very oily. I was so excited to try the cubana, again it fell short in my experience. Seriously lacked flavor, the arepa itself was dry. Cubanas are usually an easy hit, but not this one for me. For $22 plus tip for those items just not even close for me to want to return.

I have no idea what I just ate. A friend gave me a list of things to order and I filled his lead. Everything was a flavor explosion. The chicken Moderna was my favorite. The ingredients were all delicious. It was complex and simple all at the same time. Pure food truck magic! The bread on the arepa was so filling, I'm glad we split one. The carne patacon was later after layer of surprise flavors, was h one better than the last! Awesome dining experience! Great food, great truck!!

So flavorful, so fresh, so delicious! We ordered the Patacones carne and puerco and they were incredible - HUGE portions so I recommend sharing with at least one other friend! The service was quick and friendly, and the picnic tables were conveniently located for eating! Overall a fun environment with a few other food trucks if you want to sample a bit extra food!

So glad Arepa has made it, love their veg option. Full of flavor, healthy and filling. Love their plantains too! So good!

Great Latin street food truck in the three-truck plaza on Fourth. Friendly, tasty, well-priced. Be ready to wait.

I believe we got the cubano and it was so good! It was juicy chicken sandwiched between 2 perfectly fried arepas. It's quite a filling sandwich and the pricing wasn't bad either! They also have a very nice area to sit outside and enjoy your meal. One of my top favorite food trucks so far!

Venezuelan food? Never tried it before and definitely wanted to check this place out before leaving Washington. It's located in a parking space with 3-4 other food trucks on 4th Ave E in downtown Olympia. There's limited parking on the lot itself, but I believe there's more spaces further up... maybe. But there are street parking around the area. I got the Ropa Vieja Bowl which looked like an entire plate lunch with protein, rice, beans, and plantains. Super excited to try it out since it's a different cuisine! The plate didn't look much but when I opened it, ugh, smelled so good! The rice was kind of sweetish and savory from the beans and plantains (I think) which was really good! The meat was super tender and flavorful but kind of dryish... Not too sure if it's because the food was left in the container a bit too long. I'm usually not a fan of beans but these beans were soft and suuuper flavorful that I was able to finish the entire thing! My friend got the carne patacon which was basically the same thing as mine with avocado and cabbage and without the beans. There was a really interesting crispy thing (don't really remember what it was) that was added in her plate that caught us off-guard but delicious! The fries were good, but we both wished we could have had more of the sauce to dip with. Overall, I thought this place was relatively good. Definitely a popular spot among many people and a place to try!

Food: intrigued to come back for more, but not excited for the arepa. It's nice they are gluten free! Ropa Vieja Bowl $8.99- YEAH! Meat was juicy, tender, well seasoned. Goes well with classic beans and rice. The plantains are bomb! Moist, sweet, slightly caramelized. Wish I had some sort of acidic veggie to break the carbs, meat and flavors. Chimichuri sauce was good, next time I'll ask for more. Arepa Reina $8- ground maize used as buns with chicken salad and avocado. Simple as that. It's a bit plain for my taste. Chimichuri sauce was the saving grace. Service- standard, but they speaks with an authentic accent and felt she spoke fast. Fair wait time for food truck food 5-10min. Ambiance- came on a nice sunny day, benches around to sit and enjoy food. Or do take out for a nice picnic at any of the nearby parks and playgrounds (we went to Priest Point Park 5 min away) Location- on conner of 4th Ave and Plum. Look for Whitewood Cider Co (red building). There is some parking in the lot. They are with 2 other food trucks- California Taco and Nivennah Mediterranean food. Value- Fair. Standard food truck prices. Recommend- yes! If you're in the area for great flavors, quick grab, easy to transport to eat anywhere.

I go every time I'm down in Olympia for an arepa and it never disappoints. I always get the avocado chicken salad arepa (Reina Arepa). It's so good and I get the fried plantains (Tajadas). I have been on the hunt for Yuca fries so we tried those for the first time today. Friendly service!

Stopped by on the way back to Seattle area and got the ropa vieja bowl! The meat was packed with flavor and the sweet plantains were made fresh--delicious. Came with a green sauce as well that was so tasty! Super friendly service too. Glad to have found this spot and hope to be back in the area soon so I can pay them another visit!

    Carne arepa. Delicious and filling.

I'll start with the beef, as it was the primary component of the dish. Despite it being flank steak, it was clearly simmered for a long time - and displayed none of the traditionally chewy or dry properties associated with the tougher cut. The sauce also helped - it was very well spiced, and had a slight tomato-like flavor. Mixing this with the yellow rice yielded something that was really satisfying to eat. The combination of sauce, beef, and rice was quite enjoyable, even with mixing the vegetables in for some extra crunch. The portion size of beef was crazy. When combined with the rice, the total amount of food here was solidly enough for two full meals. It is around 20 dollars for the dish, but I would classify that as a good value when you consider how much food you get. On the opposite side, I swapped the maduros out for fries. These...were not good. The fries tasted stale, hard, and not appealing at all. While the portion size was high, the appeal was not. The sauce that came with these was interesting at least. Overall, I think this is a very strong core dish at an impressive portion. Would recommend sticking with the plantains as a side though. 8.5/10

The chicken arepa was great! At first I was a bit concerned because I saw all that cheese and wondered if that would smother the taste, but found the whole experience was super balanced. The chicken was marinated in this bright sauce that balanced the creaminess of the cheese. With the spicy sauce packet it added a punch that was perfect! Soooo good! Best churro I have eaten in King County as well. Crunchy on the out, soft on the in, and nice and cinnamon. Wonderful. All in all would highly recommend for fast convenient arepas.

Most Caribbean spots around Washington lean Jamaican, so finding a place doing proper Puerto Rican dishes felt special. The menu and quality reminded me of what you'd find back on the island, at least pre-pandemic. They had classics like chillo frito, mofongo, and pasteles, and it tasted like homemade small business cooking. Honestly, I thought it was even better than La Isla before the fire that shut that place down. A few pain points. It's far. The restaurant is south of Tacoma near I-5, so it's a bit of a drive whether you're coming from Seattle or even from the airport. It was also cash only when I went, though you could sit inside and eat. Last time I called it sounded like they were still mostly doing the to-go model and hadn't fully gone back to the way it used to operate. I haven't made the trip again yet, but it's still on my list. Also worth saying, after the pandemic when I moved to San Diego, I couldn't find an authentic Puerto Rican spot there either. That made me appreciate this place even more. After the Benito Super Bowl performance I'm definitely craving some Puerto Rican food again. Might have to make the drive soon.
