I stopped in for the first time because of a challenge of a friend from Venezuela to try some of the local food. Yelp found this restaurant for me and within minutes I was sampling 4 different dishes and drinking a soda from Venezuela. The arepas were delicious, as were all the others. Being that I travel for work, I love to enjoy foods other than fast food. Visiting in Utah for a week and I've been able to find some pretty delicious food and Arempa's is one of those delicious spots that I'm so happy I found. From the greeting to exiting, the entire experience was wonderful! It felt like I was family! I loved the paintings on the wall. Gave it such a unique touch. I wish I could've taken pictures of it, but I didn't want to disturb the people sitting next to them. The paintings were of famous paintings of Salvador Dali with what looked like an empanada. This place has it all-ambience, service and tasty food. But that might not be enough to convince you-so let me say more. The entire restaurant is designed with Venezuelan décor, colors and theme. When I visited, it was Christmastime, and there was a giant decorated tree in the lobby. I wish I'd taken a picture, but I was too much in awe to pull out my camera. There's a full bar, which we didn't check out, but it's good to know that's an option if you want it. They also had a space for a live band and I hear they have dancing on the weekends. I can only imagine how much fun that would be! As for the food, it's absolutely top shelf. Everything we tried was delicious, authentic and fresh. I'll admit, I wasn't sure what everything was, but my friend who's much more familiar with this cuisine, ordered a sampling and I tried a little bit of it all. My favorite was the shredded chicken empanada. Yum! Like others have mentioned, there is ample parking outside, as opposed to the downtown location where parking comes at a premium. So so so amazing! I am so glad I know about this location now. I had only been to the downtown Salt Lake location prior. This location has a larger menu and a lot more space. We loved the way it was decorated and it looks to be set up for live music. Service was wonderful and we got some great recommendations. First of all, the aesthetic and atmosphere of this restaurant are a bar above most. They have a lot of beautiful art and pictures on the walls. What an amazing dining experience today at Arempas. We had our cousin visiting Salt Lake and she's never had Venezuela cuisine. So glad we brought her here as we enjoyed all the delicious food we ordered. Highly recommend their Picanha! This is a Venezuelan-based restaurant with many traditional dishes! They are obviously known for their Arepas but I found they had SO many amazing dishes. We tried quite a bit, and I can honestly say that every item we tried we absolutely loved! My personal favorites were the Patacon (which is essentially a plantain sandwich), the fried pork cachapas, parrilla mixta (a massive platter of meat, potatoes & cheese) & the pina colada! I really had a hard time picking a favorite item as the flavors are all just so delicious & unique! It is a great spot to go with a group of people - I definitely recommend ordering a variety of items and sharing! We went to the Midvale location which has a full bar (that is SO cute) and live music! But you can also check them out in Downtown Salt Lake City or in Orem. I'm a huge arepas fan and I'm so happy there is now a location a bit closer to my house and with a PARKING LOT. So nice not to have to stress about where to leave my car. The restaurant is cute on the inside. Lots of pretty art. So happy about all the gluten free options. I got the pabellón arepa and loved the sweet plantains and gooey cheese with the meat and beans. This place has potential, but has three major issues. #1. The food is expensive (about $20/person) #2. The service was terrible. No refills and they messed up our order. I can forgive these first two. The third reason is why I will never be back. #3. They charge our party of 4 an 18% tip and didn't mention it to us. Then they ask for an additional tip. So for their terrible service they got two tips. Apparently they always auto charge an 18% tip (even for a party of 1). Not only is this not standard practice for small parties I believe this is deceptive and dishonest. I will NOT be back and I hope you won't go until they change this policy. read more

I couldn't finish it. It was not restaurant quality beef. The ambience was less than great but there's not a lot the restaurant could have done, the table next to us had some very loud guests. We got the fried sampler, which gave us 4 arepas of different flavors, 4 cheese tequeños, 4 chicken pasteles, and 4 ground beef empanadas. It came with two dipping sauces. It had been a long time since we've been back and friends of ours said they've had good experiences so today we tried again, unfortunately...I ordered online and got a text that our order was ready so I went to pick it up and when I told them the name they were very confused and then told me it wasn't ready.
