07/14/26 Fresh off from our flight from California to Utah for a work meeting. We landed and ubered straight to Sagato's. This place was recommended by a family friend. We looked up the menu online and already had planned what we were going to order. lol As soon as we got there and saw all the goodies, we wanted all of it lol First off, the cafe is open and inviting. There is a beautiful mural on the wall of a Polynesian woman created by Wilford Aljay Fuimaono-Manusina Art. The cashier was so sweet - from California so we connected that way lol Now, about the food. I'm a huge fan of meat pies, and these were the best I've had in Utah! Located just off State Street, this quiet bakery really packs a punch. There's a limited staff, so ordering can take a little time if there's a line but it's absolutely worth the wait. The quality of the food more than makes up for it. I've only been in a couple of times, but that was a few years ago. My friend and I wanted to meet up here for dessert the other week, but unfortunately it closes at 7pm. Although we didn't go last week, I stopped through before going to my dojo for practice this past week. I tried their savory meat pies (steak and cheese) and some guava cake. Everything was yummy! It was the last hour of operation when O got there, so business was a little more quiet, and staff seemed to be ready to head out. We have been to NZ, and ate meat pies everywhere we went. The meat pies here are better than NZ, imo. Flake crust. Filled work delicious fillings. Some of the fillings are Indian like butter chicken or chicken curry. And the coconut cake is to die for. So good. It is clean, with a great staff. Give it a try. read more

We tried the chicken curry tart, butter chicken tart, steak and mushroom tart, steak and mozzarella tart, the pineapple hand pie, and the guava cake. The chicken curry tarts were tasty. Pastry was flaky and definitely someone has the touch - doesn't over-knead the dough. Big smile. The guava cake is an absolute do-over/must try. Everything seemed so fresh and delicious!! Nice and clean too. My fav was the guava cake and I never eat it lol It's the best cake I ever had, mind you I'm a red velvet girly hahaha what the heck! We tried all the meat pies and they were all delicious, too hard to choose a fav. If I had to choose maybe butter chicken just because. You can't go wrong with any of the pies. I did try the palusami w/cornbeef, I think I prefer my palusami as is but I still appreciated the uniqueness. Wish they sold palusami here. Koko Samoa Bundt cake & ube cupcake were good. Keke pua'a was good too, so was the portion size. We came as a party of 8 ordered a meat pie and dessert each plus some and left with no leftovers. That was the only sign I needed to know how good this place is. We'll be back to try the fish and chips and to get more guava cake, I think this time we'll just get a whole cake lol I won't fight the feeling. I'll be back. Don't order online, even with Payment pulled from your account doesn't mean anything to this business. I place my order before they opened today. Received my receipt for pickup later today. Little after 3 I received a phone call , we ran out of the pisupo pies and have only 1 mushroom pie left. My question was but I place my order this morning why would you sell something you already received the money for? Blah blah blah, come to find out they also sold the last mushroom pie. Talk about the best customer service ever. ‍Hopefully today was the only day they do this, because if this is a daily I'm glad I'm only here visiting. We got some fruit tarts , one of their little cakes, and a coffee. Terrible coffee, tarts were meh and overly sweet, strange aftertaste, cake was okay. There were other people there that had all ordered the meat pies, so that seems to be more their thing, but I can't vouch for them. The service was great, though - very friendly. Being that I'm Hawaiian and grew up also eating Samoan and other Polynesian culture foods, I definitely love to try these types of places when I do road trips. My wife found this place from someone else that made a video of it and I knew for sure we had to stop here and try not to spend all our money. The place is very clean and the person behind the counter was very friendly and patient because I was so indecisive because I literally wanted 4 of everything they had lol. I'm never like this but this place had me having a hard time choosing. It's so hard to explain how good everything we got here was because I was in pure food bliss while I ate our goodies. All I know is that as I'm writing this review I can't wait to come back already and probably spend a load of money to bring home stuff as well. read more

Great tasting Samoan bakery. $7 per pie is a bit expensive but it tasted great! The staff told me the two most authentic Samoan dishes are the pork bun and the Corn beef meat puff pastry. The puff pastry (with corn beef and taro leaves inside) is made well: crispy, but not burnt or too dense or oily. The bun of the pork bun has a unique chewy texture similar to chinese pork bun but have more texture in a good way. The quality of the pork in the pork bun is superb!! I can't attest to the food's authenticity but to a novice it tastes exotic and tasted really good! (Separately I saw numerous Samoans coming in as customers which I guess means the food is authentic!) Glad to expand my palette to try something different. It is a little expensive for me to go everyday, coz I love bargain hunting but would love to go back again!! The staff are friendly. Inside seating are super comfy and the decor is beautiful. Everytime my family and I are in the SLC, UT (801) area we have to stop by here and get our fix! This is perhaps the closest you'll get to having New Zealand meat pies & sausage rolls. Absolutely loved our quick stop at this bakery before catching our flight! The customer service was outstanding. So friendly and helpful even though we were in a rush. The bakery selection was mouthwatering, with so many tempting options to choose from. We ordered the corn beef and palusami pie, and it was seasoned to perfection. The sausage roll was honestly one of the best I've ever tried. It was flaky, flavorful, and just delicious. We also got the steak and cheese meat pie and the curry chicken meat pie. Both were really tasty, though I thought they could use just a tad more seasoning to make them perfect. And I couldn't leave without trying their famous koko Samoa Bundt cake. It was rich moist, and full of unique flavor. The vibe in this bakery was welcoming. We took everything to go so we could make our flight, and I'm happy to say it was still fresh and delicious when we enjoyed it at our gate. Next time we're in Utah, we'll definitely be stopping by again to try the rest of their bakery items, especially more of that delicious koko Samoa cake! So...I've been excited to try this place for a while, but upon actually checking it out...I wish I had just gone to Paris Baguette down the street. Sleepy "cafe" with boxes down the hallway: think Paris Baguette, but without the energetic execution of quality. I went in mostly for coffee, but they only offer drip. I couldn't quite find it on the menu, so I asked "what coffee do you have," the response was "oh, we just have Verona." I could see the coffee - two pots sitting on burners...I was pretty bummed. It's called "Bakery & CAFE"...it's in the title. Oh well, I figured maybe the bakery part was okay...I ordered the sausage roll, and it was sitting in a warming cabinet, but it still took a while for the cashier to put on gloves, go pull it out, put it in a bag (that it didn't fit in comfortably- had to carry it sideways), and then pour coffee from the pots into a cup and hand it to me. As far as the add-your-own creamer station? Only French Vanilla coffee mate cups...the shelf-stable shake-before-opening kind...and I still got chunks in my coffee from the dry creamer cups that have clearly sat too long. In retrospect, it was too quiet, and felt a bit like walking into the memory of a bakery rather than a bakery. Eating the sausage roll felt like a home-experiment that never really got off the ground: someone took ground sausage and wrapped it in premade croissant, without a consideration for flavors, consistency...or cooking it well (I think it was all the way cooked, but hard to tell - the ends were burnt though). Some people scroll social media on their phones, others read a book, but I chose to go in search of a treat. Which is how I found Sagato Bakery nearby. I wasn't sure what to expect, but went inside curiously. I was met with an odd scent-both sweet goodies as well as fish. Strange, but I guess that's to be expected when a place touts themselves as both a bakery and café. I opted not to try the fish and chips, which is what I was smelling, but instead went for the fruit tart. I enjoyed it, although it was a little heavy on the custard. I love the meat pies here! They have a nice variety of them, they reheat well in the microwave and they have a buy 6 for $30 deal so you basically get one for free! Service is always good. It's more of a Togo place than dine in, but they do have a few tables if you want to eat there. The desserts a tasty as well read more

The lady behind the counter was sweet and engaging through my short visit. Plenty of chairs and seating available! Private parking lot with plenty of parking. Meat Pie - I was wowed by the intensity of flavors. It's best when it's served right then and there!! The crust was baked perfectly. I pre-ordered salads from Sagato, but because of my busy schedule I completely forgot to pick them up. To make matters worse, I never received a single call, voicemail, or text reminder. They claim to have a notification system to let customers know when food is ready, but I got nothing. When I realized what happened and called to see if I could at least get credit or a refund for one of the pans, the woman who answered was incredibly rude. She insisted they had called me (which I have no record of) and then hung up on me. If you can see that an order hasn't been picked up, good customer service would be to make every effort to reach out to the customer. Also no one could confirm whether there was an order or not. I still had family visiting from out of town and would have gladly picked up the food for our dinner, yet no one mentioned that my order was there and available so I know it was never made and why would they throw my order away after 1 day? I don't care if I was 1 or 2 days late, I want my order. To make matters worse, I never received a receipt or confirmation. I had placed the order with a young man over the phone who took my credit card information, but I'm not confident he even entered the order. Even if there was an issue, I feel the business could have reached out by call, voicemail, email, or text. Instead, I received no communication at all. If I truly ordered two large pans, I would hope they wouldn't just throw them away the very next day without ever contacting me. The entire experience came across as careless, dishonest, and extremely rude. I'm very disappointed in the lack of professionalism and customer service. This experience makes me question whether my order was even prepared in the first place. Just a warning if you forget your order, don't expect any flexibility, credit, or refund. Service was great. Conversation with clerks and other patrons was fabulous. The food is what will get me to visit this place when it is I ever visit this state again. Fusion with that island taste. The fish and chips was the business. Fries are crispy on the outside, soft and piping hot in side and seasoned perfectly. The fish is the star. I've been working on trying out as many bakeries in the valley as I can, and found myself here for a birthday cake. I ordered the haupia cake and was blown away. Delicious coconut cream in layers of moist cake, and yet somehow feels light. I also tried some of the meat pies, which had a great flakey crust and well balanced flavors. My order came out quickly, and the staff was friendly. The interior was simple, but clean and had plenty of seating. I came later in the day, and they were out of a number of items, so I recommend going earlier. I will definitely be back to try the guava cake and some other meat pies. read more

This place is so freaking bomb. I was trying to go to L&P bakery but they were closed for vacation so I found another spot to try out. Sagato bakery & cafe has polynesian cakes, food, and other pastries. I got a sausage meat pie, a steak and mushroom meat pie, a koko samoa cake, and a strawberry cake. The strawberry cake was so freaking good. Super soft, creamy, sweet and fluffy. I want to go back just for this cake. Late review- When in Utah, you must visit this bakery & cafe. It has a nice and cozy seating area along with tables and chairs. Beautiful vibrant mural. Clean, and welcoming. Great service by the staff and they greet you when you walk in. Meat pies- steak and steak & mushroom: It was homemade gravy with tender slices of beef with veggies, it was so tasty and yummy . I regret not getting more to go on the road. It gave me a homely feeling, reminiscent of a home cooked meal by mom or dad. We bought pineapple half moon pies and pork buns for our cousins.
