    Lebanese Plate.
    Karen F.

Based on the favorable reviews, my friend and I decided to have lunch here after working out. I ate here a few years ago, but never made it back. When we walked in, we were the only two in the place, but clearly they do a lot of to-go orders, because the two workers we saw were busy. I ordered the Lebanese plate which consisted of salad, two falafels, a dolma, hummus, baba ghanoush, and your choice of pita bread or pita chips. I love getting combo plates and trying a variety of the food a restaurant has to offer. We wanted fountain drinks, but their machine was out of order, so we went with canned sodas. The food took a while to come out. Not just ours, but pretty much anybody who came in after us waited quite some time for their food too. My platter when it came looked delicious. I liked the salad and hummus, but honestly, the falafel was terrible. They were so dense and hard I could barely choke them down. I don't know if they make them in advance and then just reheat them, but I would never have them here again. I also wish I had chosen the pita bread, not pita chips, because they turned out to be these tiny crunchy pieces that were too little to put any spreads on. The restaurant was relatively clean, but very warm. If I return, I think I'll try an empanada or arepas, because maybe that's where they shine.

My husband suggested that we stop in to check out this restaurant while In the area. We were greeted by a very nice lady at the counter....(Janet) She made some really good recommendations... I tried a few items and they all were delicious. We will definitely return!

ARE Pitas is a unique fusion of Venezuelan and Lebanese cuisine. The small resturant is located in a strip mall area offers casual seating and take out. The Venezuelan Arepa was packed full with shredded chicken, plantains and black beans. The Fish Empanada was surprisingly flavorful and flaky. The cashier who took our order was very pleasant and gracious to answer my questions about various menu items. I will definitely make a return visit the next time I'm in Tampa.

The service was nice the food authentic and the food seasoned just like they do it in Panama Ah, this place is a gem. Do not pass it by. My meal kept me satisfied until 4pm and I ate at 11am. Well worth the value and the lady who served me reminded me of a Latina Tia.

    I love this place!

I absolutely love the food here. The service is very friendly and the flavors are amazing. Every time I come to Tampa, I come here for my Arepa fix!

I really wanted to like this place. I went 4-5 times in a month. My order was always called ahead and never ready when I arrived. I order something and get something else instead thank God I'm not Allergic cause it screams lawsuits.Empanadas are over cooked. I expected to get better I tried morning, late lunch hours, afternoon and almost closing. Terrible.

    Arepas & plantains.

We were intrigued by a dual-National cuisine restaurant. Are Pita offers both Venezuelan & Lebanese food. Today we opted for the Venezuelan side of the menu. Empanadas & arepas filled the table. The empanada that stole the show was called papabellon. It was top-of-the-chart tasty. Inside were shredded beef, cheese, black beans, & plantains. It so worked, lol. Plus the garlicky, tartar dipping sauce added to the full orchestra of flavors. I also had a guava & cheese empanada. That's always a winning combination. My wife loved her arepas & empanadas & the side of plantains was cooked to perfection...sweet, tender, caramelized goodness. I must also mention the workers were very kind, polite, & personable. Next time I'll order off the Lebanese side so my life is complete.

Serving Venezuelan and Lebanese food, Are Pitas has a large variety of options. They have a counter serve set up but you can sit at a table and eat there, they have a large colorful dining room. Or take the food to go. They have arepas, pitas, empanadas, falafel, gyro, I had the gyro on pita with fried plantains. Very tasty but i haven't met a plantain I didn't like. They were pretty busy during lunch time and originally just had one person working the counter but eventually someone else came to assist. Friendly staff. Parking in a lot in front of the restaurant. Great combination and offerings. Located right at University mall in Tampa.

Stupendous! Fabulous! Phenomenal! Tremendous! Extraordinary! Remarkable! Exceptional! Astounding! PABELLON PABELLON PABELLON! Order the PABELLON EMPANADA! From the perfectly fried golden outer half moon shell to the favor-packed shredded beef, black beans, & plantains that grace the soft inside, there is no escaping falling in love w/ this Venezuelan culinary creation. Once you dip this delightful production into the delicious cilantro-laden yellowish sauce, the only thing you'll crave is a long, slow puff on a figurative cigarette:) Seriously, this national dish is ASOMBROSA! Check out the pics before heading on over to try this delectable sensation served w/ a free & GENEROUS side of VERY friendly service! The dining room is spacious & clean w/ its high ceilings & modern colorblock of bright orange & neon green. Order @ the counter then sit & wait for each dish to be prepared fresh. Some history: Owners Jesus & Carmen originate from Venezuela; in Nov 2014, they opened the doors to welcome hungry & soon happy patrons to this family-owned business. Chef Carmen, a former math & physics teacher, created the dishes which cross the cultural divide by fusing Venezuelan & Lebanese flavors. The results are EXCELLENT! What possibly is left to say about such a worthy eatery other than a couple of relatable Venezuelan sayings: When you are "Hungrier than a tick on a stuffed toy," head on over to Are Pita. RUN-- don't walk, because "Hungry love doesn't last." The PABELLON EMPANADA on your plate will not be there long. It's just TOOOOOO GOOD!

Fries were a bit skimp i think it was 3-4 dollars .. smh

While taking a look of the menu, she mentioned again about not taking too long to order because the kitchen was closing soon, this was not even 5 min after giving us the menu ( if you are rushing to close just don't take more people and avoid having a bad attitude or experience ). Food 7 of 10 ( Venezuelan bbq was really good and tasty chorizos were delicious, sides were really well Cooked and flavory, Brazilian picanha was cooked perfect, chimichurri sauce was perfect but amount was very little, and cachapas were the weakest point.. cachapa had an old or musty aftertaste definitely horrible won't recommend it. After looking at reviews on Yelp, we decided to check out Alma Llanera in St Pete. We made the drive and were welcomed when we walked in. They have a great overall selection on their menu, a variety of authentic Venezuelan dishes you can dig in to. Really, we were craving empanadas - but we are eager to try more dishes next time. We ordered three carne mechada empanadas (shredded beef hand pies), one cheese empanada, and two mora natural juices. Each orderaccompanied with a side of their house sauces that compliment the natural on-going flavors of the empanda - a creamy, white garlic sauce (salsa de ajo) and a cilantro based sauce (salsa de cilantro). Several couples were waiting. While standing there, we heard a woman tell another patron she did not have a reservation, yet when the manager came out to seat guests, he seated a large group and then that party of three before the rest of us who had reservations. Shortly after, he loudly announced, "Reservations first," which was confusing considering what we all had just witnessed. When we were finally seated, we were initially placed at the worst table in the room by the kitchen and bathroom but were accommodated after requesting a move. We then waited 10-15 minutes before the manager instructed Daniel to take care of us. Daniel ended up being the highlight of the evening--professional, apologetic, and attentive despite circumstances clearly outside of his control. We ordered empanadas, only to find out the flavors we wanted were sold out. Daniel brought cheesesteak, four-cheese, and shredded beef instead. The cheesesteak had decent flavor but was dry. Overall, the empanadas were very doughy and the meat lacked moisture. We then ordered the All Beef Parrillada. When it arrived, my wife checked the temperature and tasted a small piece. Immediately after, a server returned and said the dish wasn't ours and took it back. We watched her walk into the kitchen and then bring the same tray out to another table seated two tables away--who had been seated after us. That was extremely concerning. To make matters worse, we were then informed that mashed potatoes were no longer available and needed to select another side--yet the table that received the dish we had touched was served mashed potatoes. We ended up with extra rice and spinach. The spinach was oily with no noticeable garlic, salt, or seasoning. The rice was plain white rice with peas and carrots and little flavor. The steak itself, however, was well-seasoned and prepared nicely. During our visit, we also noticed another Black couple seated next us who waited at least 30 minutes without being greeted or even served water. They eventually left. Shortly after, the table was seated with white males who were greeted and attended to within 10 minutes. That observation was very difficult to ignore after talking to them. Daniel did not charge us for the empanadas, spinach, or the sangria (which he made promptly so we wouldn't experience another long wait). The sangria was very good. His professionalism and sincere attitude were the only things that salvaged the evening. Overall, the service inconsistencies, food execution, and handling of dishes--especially serving a plate that had already been touched--were disappointing and extremely concerning. We came for a different experience, but unfortunately left questioning whether we would return. 2 stars for steak taste and season and Daniel's effort.

Luckily, while visiting a relative in St. Pete, we discovered we were just a block away from 11 Chicks Venezuelan Restaurant. My brother had been hyping this place up ever since he moved to St. Petersburg, so it was an absolute no-brainer to finally check it out. Wow -- I'm officially ruined for all other food. I ordered the Cachapa (a sweet corn pancake folded around a ridiculous amount of melted cheese), and because I have no self-control, I added chicharrón. Game over. That crunchy, porky goodness took it to another stratosphere. We also split the Chick #1 Carne Asada -- a smaller arepa absolutely stuffed with tender, juicy grilled steak. Don't let the size fool you; it was surprisingly filling and perfectly seasoned. The food alone would have been enough to win me over, but the customer service sealed the deal. Everyone was so warm and welcoming -- it genuinely felt like eating at a family member's house. Curious about the name, I asked the story behind "11 Chicks." Turns out the owners grew up in a house with 11 women (mothers, sisters, aunts -- the whole crew), and everyone pitched in to turn their dream into this incredible restaurant. Such a cool, heartfelt backstory. If you're anywhere near St. Petersburg, do yourself a favor and go to 11 Chicks. I'm already plotting my next visit... and maybe moving my brother closer to it isn't off the table.
