We were in the mood for all-American food and stumbled upon this place! They've got all the regular diner staples (burgers, milkshakes, fries) with an Alaskan spin on some of their items. I wanted something Alaska-y, so I ordered the Halibut burger. It was a little greasy but soooooo tasty. It came with baked beans on the side, which were also tasty. I also got the Oreo milkshake, which did not disappoint in the slightest! The walls of this restaurant are lined with photos and stories of customers who have been loyal to the restaurant for 30+ years. It was really cool - I loved reading about these people. You definitely get a down home feel from this place. The interior probably hasn't changed since they moved to this building in the early 70s. However, you can tell they've kept having to add on to it, meaning the place probably has a lot of business. read more

I love their burgers, onion pieces (super greasy but better than the rings), and homemade milkshakes! The very basic Attu burger is my favorite. They season the meat just right and keep it fresh. The fish sandwich would be my second choice but still so tasty. Their condiments bar with extra pickles (spicy if you like), onions, and other items is a bonus. AR has a great outdoor picnic area on warm days by the creek. You may even see salmon swimming upstream while you dine. But the inside can be just as entertaining with all their loyal customer pictures and history. Their fireplace is great on cold days. Very Alaksan -- very cool. Their other location, actually on Arctic, does have a drive-thru. Either place give your order time to be cooked and assembled. This is semi-fast food. For a half hour lunch break it is an extremely tight squeeze. Note: AR only accepts CASH as payment - no exceptions. ATM next door at the Chevron station with a fee of course. read more

I've never been disappointed by a burger I've had here, and they price is fabulous for what you get. This is another classic example of just having a GOOD burger, not needing bells and whistles or anything out of the ordinary. It's good wholesome food. The onion PIECES are awesome, a bit oily for some but when you're already eating a burger it's what you want. The bun doesn't mush up on you, it holds up to a very juicy patty as well as the toppings. The ratios are on point too. They're sticking to what they know and it is working in their favor. We came here starving and left satisfied! Had the western burger and requested it medium. The lettuce and tomato on the burger were fresh, the lettuce crisp. For me, that's a vital part of a yummy burger. My patty was indeed cooked to medium! Got the onion "pieces" to share. Everyone on here refers to them as rings, but they are more like chunks and slices of onion battered/fried. We liked them, but I didn't feel like they were anything special. I went here for the first time in my adult life. I used to hate burgers but recently I've been a big fan. After having been ruined by the Cheesy Double- Double Animal Style at In-n-Out in LA, I was skeptical. Stepping inside I was already in love with the local-Alaskan theme. Arctic Roadrunner is definitely one of my favorite places to grab a burger in Anchorage! The burgers are delicious (my go to is the Arctic Cheese), and the onion rings are out of this world. You have a choice between frozen and homemade, go for the homemade! Not as much breading as your typical onion ring, but the flavor is all there. A bit of a dive, and I mean that in the nicest way. Cash only. No frills. They don't allow tipping, so I really hope they pay well, because I would have definitely tipped. It was busy, and we ordered cheese burgers with fries, and got a seat by the river. The decor is interesting....I'm not a hunter, so seeing dead animals on the wall while I'm eating wasn't appetizing for me in the least, so I concentrated on the river view. I gotta imagine in the summer this is a great spot for grub. The food came fast and hot. It was a great burger, not the kind you cut in half and eat, you grab the whole thing, and mow down! The Kenai Whopper hasn't changed in years and I rarely order anything else. Just a solid meal. I love the pickle and condiment bar. I miss the Arctic location but eating in the Old Seward location is like eating in a museum. Pictures of customers from the past grace every wall. I'm sure those folks would be glad to know the food hasn't changed much and neither has the point of sale system. I've heard a lot of great things about this place! So I figured I'd check it out. I believe this place may have been good at one time, but the quality is extremely poor all around. The atmosphere is homey, definitely has a 'mom and pop' sort of feel, which I really enjoyed. I ordered the French Dip, one of the daily specials. When I got it, the onions and meat were spilling out of the sides, though it could have easily been contained by the bun, it was served on a plate far too small, and the bottom bun was soaked. I speculate that the sandwich had been sitting for a while under a heat lamp soaking up the juices from the meat. It was also served with Auju sauce - which was watered down and tasted very... not tasty. There were portions of the meat that was not cooked evenly. Some was cooked on the well done side, and other portions that was on the medium rare side. Overall, the dish was not aesthetically pleasing. The price was low, I guess I got what I paid for. Nice people, decent space, mediocre food. Tommy's Burger Stop is easily twice the price and 10 times the quality. Maybe a longer wait, but Definitely worth it. Come here in the summer time and eat lunch next to the creek or pop in during the winter time and cozy up next to the fireplace. At Arctic Roadrunner it seems term Old Fashioned is applied across the board. There is no call-in ordering available, there is no online presence of any kind besides Yelp, and they only take cash. I came down here yesterday with the parents for lunch. This location is at the corner of Old Seward and International Airport Rd. across from the Peanut Farm and next to a Chevron gas station. This Arctic Roadrunner has been a longtime favorite with the locals for many years and pictures of loyal customers, politicians, and public figures adorn the walls with Alaskan memorabilia all over the restaurant. The seating area is very large and spacious compared to the Arctic location with a country rustic log cabin look along with a large, wooded patio area. A nice view of a running river close to the tables complements the outdoor seating along with the sunny weather. The employees are quick to take your order and very capable of handling the rush of customers that constantly happen throughout the day. The burgers here are delicious but not as good as another burger joint which happens to be my favorite. (That distinction goes to a certain place off of Spenard Rd. which I mention in another review.) My parents decided to go with their usual Arctic Cheese which is your standard cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, onions, and mayo. I decided to try the Halibut Burger on a fellow Yelper's recommendation which had grilled halibut, lettuce, tartar sauce and American cheese served with a side of baked beans. I'm glad I ordered this. The halibut was juicy and full of flavor with the bun perfectly toasted. The baked beans were great as well with a good amount of bacon bits and a delicious brown sugar glaze. We also ordered fries and onion rings as separate sides. The fries were crispy and filling with just the right amount of salt added. We decided to go with the frozen version of their onion rings and I thought this was better than the homemade version. The last time I ordered the homemade version, the plate was a cluttered mess with the batter falling apart and having to use a fork to dip the onions in the ketchup to keep from making a mess on the table. We enjoyed our meal for the most part and this has always been a favorite for my parents when they want a burger. Other items I have tried on previous visits include the Kodiak Islander Burger (mayo, lettuce, onion, tomato, and mild chili pepper with a slice each of bologna, salami, ham, bacon, and mozzarella cheese topped off with an onion ring), the Smoked Turkey (sliced turkey, mayo, lettuce, tomato, mustard, and mozzarella cheese topped with an onion ring on toasted sourdough bread with a choice of coleslaw or beans on the side), the Salmon Burger (grilled Wild Alaskan Salmon patty, American cheese, tartar sauce, and lettuce on a toasted bun), and the Kenai Whopper (their largest burger with two 1/4lb. patties, mayo, lettuce, onion, tomato, mild chili pepper, and mozzarella cheese). The shakes are also another option you can't pass up. They are hand-dipped the old fashion way with a choice of chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, Oreo, blackberry, and peanut butter flavors along with a special Flavor of the Month selection. The reason I went with four stars rather than five is that they only take cash here and credit or debit cards aren't accepted. You also can't place a call-in order to avoid the lines and the wait if you decide to stop in for lunch. I used to love it here. Last time I went I asked for burger w no veggies. I got an Undercooked burger with literally half an onion smashed into the bun. I love a good, old-fashioned American cheeseburger. To me, it is the ultimate in comfort food. I love this location, due to it being situated next to Campbell Creek. They have tables and benches arranged outside in the summer time so you can enjoy the creek while eating some of the best burgers in town. I also love that old-timey, Alaskan atmosphere. This location is a log cabin-like structure and the inside walls sports a lot of old, Alaskan memorabilia. I've lived here all my life and I do not get the "tourist trap" feeling here, certainly not in the way some of the shops downtown have turned into real tourist traps. Their food here is great also, fresh and made-to-order. The menu is pretty extensive, specilizing in burgers, but also a number of other sandwiches and food items. Try their homemade onion rings for a treat! I also LOVE their milkshakes made with real vanilla soft serve ice cream. My favorite is chocolate, but my husband like the blackberry milkshake.
