The feel isn't that of "kitschy touristy keepsakes", as the downtown market often is. These are all local businesses run by locals. In addition to lots of fresh produce, there are also lots of hip new businesses serving up great eats. And they have live music. They've also got "kiddie tables" for the little ones. We were chatting and watching her make the banh mi, and it just looked so satisfying to see her cutting the bread and see the steam rising. Perfectly toasted outside, fluffy inside, stuffed with meats and fillings. The bánh mì thit người was savory, with hints of sweetness, spice, and pickles veggies. You can request to not have those in the sandwhich, but all the flavors really meld together into a delicious experience. She sells tons of drinks there. We tried her Viet coffee, and her's is very rich and has a deep sweet flavor to it (be careful not to drink too late in the day if you're sensitive to caffeine). And the convenience of fresh produce coming to your door every week can't be beat, I've even added local milk deliveries (though I wish I could automatically have it come each week without having to add it each time). I get the harvest box which is perfect for my family of four. My amazing 7 year old daughter decided to become a vegetarian June 2012, since she has gone meatless the rest of the family only eats meat a couple times a week (I could probably give it up but my husband never could) so we go through a lot of produce. I also enjoy that the produce is so varied. There are so many things I've never tried and I love receiving items I wouldn't regularly buy because then I get to try new things. For example, I never buy any squash besides pumpkin and I've bee having fun preparing a variety of squash recipes. Also, I had never heard of Rainbow Chard before getting these deliveries and it is the most beautiful green and I love making Rainbow Chard Alfredo, sooooo good! My experience with Full circle deliveries has been awesome! Though I do think they could replace the box with reusable totes. I get milk in a cool pack I have to return each week, I wouldn't mind doing the same with totes.

Fred Meyer's employees put themselves at risk of infection every day. They are overworked and understaffed and underpaid. They, along with medical professionals and first responders, are keeping us alive right now. The only difference is that they are paid and respected much less by our society. To clear a few things up: Instacart: is not owned by Fred Meyer. If you have a problem with them, you shouldn't put that on Fred Meyer. Also: Instacart workers are also on the front lines, and need your compassion. It's a GOOD THING: that grocery stores are being strict about returns. THIS DISCOURAGES HOARDING, in addition to being SAFE. In times like this, we should only buy what we NEED. OK, so with that soapbox out of the way: Freddies is doing a great job, all things considered. Social distancing markers are in place on the floors. Employees are constantly sanitizing and/or changing out gloves. Food is getting re-stocked only days after the hoarders take it all. Despite all the added strain, employees remain cheerful and eager to help. Oh, and they are keeping alcohol sales going...essential indeed. Let's be nice, and keep it classy, Anchorage. We'll get through this.
