We've shopped at Paragon for decades and always had good to great experiences there. The staff is…read morewell-informed, has integrity and the merchandise is of excellent quality. Tonight l had another great experience at Paragon thanks to the sensitivity and good nature of Mike R in the upstairs shoe and boot department. As a rule, my 88-year old husband doesn't like to buy himself new clothes. But after what feels like weeks in this polar vortex, with him stubbornly trudging and slipping through the snow in old rubber rain boots and a cane, l stopped hinting and put my foot down: we were going to buy him some warm, waterproof boots with cleats. Knowing that he might only put up with one outing, I decided to scout Paragon on my own, first. Mike R. advised me he had only one style of boot that fit what l was looking for and not many sizes left. When he came back with a size in the ballpark, l asked if he could hold it for me. Mike was blunt: he couldn't do any 24-hour holds with the stock so low, but he could hold it for two hours. I thanked him, explaining that if l bought these and presented them to my husband as a done deal he would never even try them on. But we'd be back, within the hour. When we arrived on the floor, Mike picked right up on the dynamic: this was not a customer for a hard sell. And so Mike was the soul of discretion. He kept a low profile, talking quietly and only to me and showed up just often enough to be helpful. He was patient, kind and l got the feeling he was enjoying the challenge of selling without ever even connecting with the guy trying on the boots. And Mike's strategy worked! We made the transition from my husband's original reaction to the only boots in his size ("l hate them!") to walking out with four pairs of socks and that same pair of warm, waterproof boots with cleats. I am deeply grateful to and frankly in awe of Mike R, Paragon boots department. Thank you!

I walked around for over 15 minutes and not one sales person asked if I needed assistance. Also sizes and colors were limited. I don't know if this is the norm or maybe it was like this because it's holiday season. I left and ordered the Helly Hansen coat I wanted directly from the website. I don't know if I'll return to this REI location. The experience is so much different than NYC.

There is literally a narrow line to weave thru in the event there are say more than 7 people, aside from the staff browsing throughout the shop. A lot of the good picks can be hard to buy depending on the season (i.e. there was a dope fishing boonie that was neat and the perfect size for me however it was floor model only and likely previously fitted by many individuals). This is my first time to a physical MIL surplus store as I typically shop online for them and had no knowledge before my visit that this particular one was in operation for well over 50 yrs, kudos. One thing though is that if you plan on returning or exchanging anything you should discuss all the details PRIOR to purchase. For myself, def learned this the hard way as there was some gear I bought, accessories and tees (pd in cash) but changed my mind on some of them after a couple of days. Then I checked online and their store policy is 5 days with original receipt. So I returned with my goods, namely a T-shirt and was told it is NON-REFUNDABLE due to it being "underwear" and the fact it "touches your body". I was thinking "ok..." and my face def showed it, as this was the first time in my life that I heard of a business that bent their return policy. Maybe it was because of the fact that I paid cash for my gear, not sure and the owner did not want to refund me, but I got past it. But as a heads up, if you do think you may have any sort of wrinkle with a return it prob is better to put it on your charge card so you can work it out with the issuer/card company for any disputes. I had a pair…read moreof new ski boots that I was happy with, and knew I just had to change one thing - which was the footbed. I have super awkward feet and my right leg is also a bit shorter than my left. There was a huge experience change after I got my custom orthotic done. The simple array of detailed scanners and detailed tracing really did the trick in making something painful for me to something rather delightful. It was still about $250 though... Oh and at least for the custom orthotic, they make it in front of you, so you between measurements and getting the footbed installed, its about like 45 min or so. I'm sure if I went for the entire package of liners, I would have some extra comfort, but I'm happy with what I got.

It arrive today and there's absolutely no way it's a medium--I couldn't get my arms through it. I asked someone who wears a small to try it on and they couldn't either. It has to be women's sizing. Finally, it was advertised with a full price of $800, making the discount I received seem sizable. The full price on the garment tag shows it as $500, not $800. Just incredibly disappointed with my whole experience and will never shop here again.

Terrible customer service…read more Provided wrong stock counts on website for recent collection release. Refunded without warning or explanation after a considerable amount of time. For the stock that was available - waited over a month with no arrival, contacted the carrier but was referred to the 'sender' as the shipping label was created but the item was still awaiting. Meaning the stock was potentially lost sometime in-between leaving the store and arriving at the post office. Tried to avoid leaving a review but am receiving minimal clarity in their email responses. Slowly accepting will probably have to accept the loss. 10/10 will never shop here again. Hopefully Quiet Mountain Cafe will choose an alternative store to release through next time. Appalling.

My wife has never even held a rod before, and within minutes her casting was on point. I haven't cast in 20 years, and he had me going in just a few minutes as well. We feel confident and fully prepared for our upcoming days of fishing. Jon is thorough, and breaks down all of the equipment, mechanics, and physics in a few minutes so you understand the cast, rather than just learn a single way of doing it, and gives a fun lesson on how to cast, with more than enough practice time. Also.... Jon is a really great guy. Nice person to spend some time with, friendly and personable. The lesson was worth every penny and we will be loyal customers of his shop going forward. I had two items to repair, one was done in 5 minutes. The second I would get back in 6 weeks but I appreciated all the options being explained to me, and we were able to strategize on how to mend the item without affecting usability.
