The practices used my so many dealers, both new-car and used, is not an enviable one and the well-deserved reputation brought upon this profession is an unfortunate and difficult thing to deal with for the few decent individuals and companies that do exist. And now the good news! Florence, Oregon is honored to have one of the very best of these few decent companies that I've ever come across. I've only been lucky enough to have lived here since 2017, but have done business with Johnston Motor Company a few times now regarding my trusty 2004 Ranger. And then last week, I found the exact used car I've been looking for now for a few months, and every one of the folks I talked to in the process of "making the deal" have been just amazing. My well-tuned built-in BS Sensor still works very well, and the needle didn't even wiggle the whole time! These folks are my friends and neighbors here and I was treated as one of them. On this particular car, a like-new 2016 Ford Edge, my out the door cost was nearly identical to the figure I had in mind would be my offer, so no haggling was involved. The whole transaction was a pleasant interchange. The staff (that I met there, about five of them) all live here on the beautiful Oregon Coast, some all their lives, they seem to know everybody in town, and when I left there with my new ride I felt more like I'd just shared a get-together with neighbors than having survived a car purchase. I've received the same level of performance from the service department, plus having my Ranger repaired there was the same kind of experience. So any of you folks, neighbors or visitors, Johnston Motor Company has my recommendation - in case I haven't made that clear yet! Skip Thomsen Florence

Someone at their store added 8 oz of weight to one of my rims , when had all 4 of my tires checked…read moreand bought a new tire. This past week as I drove around I kept hearing wop, wop, wop and knew something was wrong. Today I went back to them and wanted all 4 tires balanced. They found that someone put 7.5 ounces of too much weight on one of my rims. Remember they just worked on it last week . The tire manager , I assume said that that tire needed to be replaced soon , so I pay $330 for another new tire today . I took my car home and came back with my 4x4 to just get the tires checked and when speaking with the tire changer / balancer guy and talking to him about why 8oz of weight was on that rim( it only needed half a ounce,.... ) I asked why would there be that much weight on 1 rim , and I said , what a Tesla hater and he laughed....hmmmm So the reason for the 4 stars is that I normally have great service at this store ( as I've bought several sets of tires at this store and have bought from several other les Schwab stores in different locales for decades) that it surprises me that this happened at this store. Remember they checked all 4 wheels last week ... And sent me on my way , almost immediately I noticed the wop, wop, wop, but couldn't get back till today... When asking the manager about why the wop, he told me 8 ounces was put on but not by their store. Should my review be lower ?

My health insurance was expiring in a few days and I had to get home. Getting a mechanic in Florence was very difficult because they were in their peak tourist season. I was running around everywhere trying to see what I could do. The staff at Sportsman were very knowledgeable. They looked at my bike even though they were busy. I could not get the Yamaha part I needed. However, they send me to someone who might be able to help me. The people who work there know their stuff and are very kind. Now I just want to find the contact of the person who helped me get home, thank him and let him know I made it back. I do not have his number or his full name. All I know are the directions of where I would meet him. 1 mile heading south on 101 turn right on s Loftus rd and right again on s Lazy Lady ln. After a few minutes on the phone, we decided upon a set which he said could be delivered by the following business day. Perfect timing! The tires arrived as promised, he called when they came in and I headed down to get them installed. Not only did I receive a great price, but there was a rebate available too. They printed an extra copy of the receipt for me to make it easy to submit. Now, that's customer service. The inside, sales floor/waiting room is super cute! They've converted old cars into seating and it's decorated in 50's nostalgia. Overall, I had an excellent experience.

While there, I made an appointment for 10 am the next week. I arrived early, and the middle-aged employee told me it would take about an hour and a half for an oil change and radiator flush. I told them that I would take a walk and grab a coffee. An hour and fifteen minutes later, I returned to the shop and noticed that my truck was still exactly where I had parked it. The employee said that " he wasn't sure what was going on back there, but that they should get to it when the mechanic is finished with another job ". I asked him, wasn't that what scheduling an appointment is for? For which I received a shrug of the shoulders and a blank stare. Not only have they lost a car care customer for years to come, but I now will be buying my tires from Les Schwab. Maybe a little more money, but at least decent customer service.
