I am just finishing up a project with Archstone and they were so horrible from beginning to end. My advice: STAY AWAY! FAR, FAR AWAY!
I wanted to replace the countertops in my guest bathroom and ensuite bathroom (both pork chop style). I first called Archstone and dealt with Erin, who was informative, pleasant and easy to deal with. I visited the warehouse to see larger samples of the slab and a few days later, I contacted Archstone to let them know the slab I had chosen. I dealt with Shell, as Erin was sick. In order to provide an estimate, I gave Shell the dimensions (in centimetres) of my countertops so she could let me know the number of slabs I would have to purchase. Shell's english was okay, but I was a little disturbed that she didn't understand the words "depth, width and height". Either way, I let it go thinking that Erin would be back and paid 50% deposit on my credit car. Shell advised that it would take 1-2 weeks to install the countertops and coordinated with Miao to visit my condo to take the measurements, which he did. Miao said I could purchase sinks for $100. When I chose my sink, Shell then said the price was actually.
After not hearing back from Archstone for a week, I followed up with Miao the following Tuesday and was advised that they would be installing my countertops later in the week but that they would confirm with me mid-week. After not hearing from Archstone mid-week, I then had to ask whether the installation was on schedule for the end of the week. Miao then confirmed that my countertops would be installed on Fri, Oct 9 between 1-2pm. I waited and when 215pm came, I called Miao who said that the installers wouldn't be at my condo until 330pm because they had to have lunch first. I wish they had contacted me earlier to let me know they would be late, rather than me having to follow-up with them.
When the installers came, they were not professional and I had to ask to ask them to take off their shoes when they entered my newly carpeted bedroom. Further, the installers had no idea they were supposed to install the sinks I purchased from them, which I had paid extra for. When the installers installed the guest bathroom countertop, I noticed the new countertop was at least 2" short in depth.
I called Miao to discuss the shortfall and he was very defensive, saying that the depth was cut to the "standard size". I didn't care that my countertop depth was not the standard size - I gave him my measurements (20cm) and Miao came to my condo after to take measurements after! How could he rely on the standard depth? He started yelling at me and finally said that he would check my file. He called me back, calmer this time, and admitted that he was wrong and that he would redo my guest bathroom countertop and hopefully have it installed the following week. Once again, I had to follow up with Miao the next week. When I called Miao to confirm the date and time of the second installation, Miao said that the installers weren't picking up his number because he "messed up" another project that morning and that he messed up a previous project last month. He then tried to garner sympathy by saying that he was at risk of being fired. I later discovered that Miao IS THE OWNER of Archstone and that this story was completely fake.
Miao said that I had a choice of the the installers coming on either Thursday evening or Friday morning to install the revised countertop for my guest bathroom. I chose Thursday evening, which came and went. At 9:30pm on Thursday, I called Miao and he confirmed that the installers wouldn't be coming. Friday morning it was.
The installers did come the next morning. The depth for the revised countertop was short AGAIN - this time by about 1"!!! My partner and I called Miao and Miao started yelling at us again, saying that we were difficult customers and always changing our mind about the depth! We said from the very beginning that we just want to use the same dimensions as our old countertops. He then said that he was relying on MY measurement of 20cm for the depth and that I WAS WRONG. He said that 20cm was 7.2" (incorrect-it is 7.87") and he kept saying that I should take responsibility for my error. After talking for nearly an hour, he offered a discount. I wanted an apology via email. He agreed. The installers ended up leaving WITHOUT CAULKING THE COUNTERTOP and I had to call them back AGAIN to do it right. BTW, I called in a plumber and found out the sink was installed improperly (the sink was partially covering the holes for the faucet). Had to call Miao again, he yelled and things went from bad to worse. We argued for our installation fee back. A week later, Archstone unilaterally charged my credit card WITHOUT my authorization and WITHOUT sending me an invoice. Honestly, this was the worst experience. I created a Yelp account just to write a review for Archstone bc I never want anyone else to go through the annoyance I've had to go through dealing with them. read more
