I had recently spent $1932 at another repair shop to have a catalytic converter put on my honda crv so I came here to Ray's for my routine smog($40). It failed due to drive pattern being incomplete. I returned 5 weeks later and failed again for same issue ($40). I was outside of 30 day windows for a free retest. Anyway, I then did a super complicated drive pattern and according to my diagnostic testing tool, my car was finally ready to pass smog! So I returned for the 3rd time, about a week after my second fail, and this time, my experience was HORRIFIC and left me in tears. I am scarred from the incident. The guy in charge said I had to come back the next day because they don't do retests after 4:00pm. It was no big deal as I hate to be that person! As I was leaving they called me back and said they changed their mind. I was so grateful at that point as I have been through so much already. He gets my car hooked up then calls me over and starts reminding me that the retest is a complimentary service. I wasn't sure what to say but I told him that I had paid for two smogs already that this is the only retest I've been here for. He wanted to see my receipts so I started looking. I informed him that I had just gotten a bunch of work done on my car and it should pass this time. That was a big mistake. Now he's hounding me about what work I got done and why I didn't come there to do it. I told him I didn't know they did work like that. He points up to a sign and says what do you mean you didn't know we do work? What are you doing here if you didn't know? I really didn't know what to say, except that I was confused and I didn't know you do catalytic converters here. He smacked my hood down and told his workers to get my car out of there and for me to come back tomorrow because I rolled my eyes at him. I didn't roll my eyes I was trying to keep the tears from falling. I was in shock and I was scared of him. As soon as he saw me cry he yelled at the guy and told him to bring my car back in. At this point I thought this man was unstable. He hooked my car up and was looking around in there and called me over again to tell me he was going to fail it again because he couldn't read the number of the catalytic converter. I was still crying I could not understand why he was doing this to me. I was trying to call the shop that put it on but they put me on hold. I just thought forget it I'm going to take my car out of here and drive over to the other shop and tell him what's going on and get any extra information I might need regardingthe catalytic converter. Ray said aren't you going to wait for a receipt? So I waited and waited while he typed and then wrote stuff down then typed again. He gave me my paper and it said he was unable to verify my catalytic converter and that it was going to require one hour of Labor in order to hoist it up in their garage and get the number off of it. Everything on my vehicle passed smog except he added to a visual inspection that catalyst was "tampered" with. This was not necessary. He used his own words to Red Flag my vehicle. I showed up at my regular shop and he told me that this guy is rotten. He said lately he's been really messing with people and upsetting them. I'm still in shock by this happening to me. If you knew me, I'm always very courteous and respectful to people. This guy was mad that I didn't pay them to do my repairs so now he's trying to charge me for 1 hour more of Labor. The reason I gave them 2 stars, is for his other employees. A few of them that have helped me including the younger kid especially, are some of the most kind people. That man does not deserve to have them working for him. Please don't go there. I've never dealt with a worse business owner. I've now been referred to J&S smog on Olympic Parkway in Grass Valley. Wish me luck that this red flag doesn't create me more problems that I don't deserve. I will call the the Better Business Bureau and complain.

I have had a few different experiences at My Auto Surgeon and on both occasions I left feeling…read morerespected, treated fairly, and most importantly, had the right work done. I say this specifically because with auto repair becoming difficult for the home repairman, I know that some businesses might infringe upon the complexity and first suggest unneeded work and second, overcharge. In this case, I used the Yelp app, entered my information and received a quick quote from My Auto surgeon. I also received probably 6 other quotes. I chose my auto surgeon as they had treated me very well previously. However, their quote was not the least, nor was it the highest. What I thought was the issue turned out not to be the issue and instead they quickly diagnosed the culprit and had my vehicle ready when they promised, and at a cost that was well within reason. I cannot stress how important it is to a customer to receive fair and timely care for their automobile. I was braced for a ridiculous charge and instead what I received was the proper diagnosis and repair done. I recommend My Auto Surgeon and feel their approach to the business is deserving of commendation above and beyond what I have experienced at other establishments.

I've been here quite a few times before, I have always gotten great service, but I never did a…read morereview. My car failed. It's smog check up the road, and so I needed to drive it about 50 miles or so to "reset the car's computer, " before it would pass . I decided to stop here for an oil change before I did that, as the car was way overdue. I was helped by Mike. He's helped me before, he's always thorough, friendly, and helpful. He got me checked in, he told me the different options for an oil change, and I told him which one I wanted. They did the oil change, and I was out in about 15 to 20 minutes. The price was extremely reasonable. Everything was great. Before I left, on the side, I happened to mention that I had needed the oil change because of the smog check. He said, oh, before you take the car back to the smog shop, stop in here, we will do a pretest to make sure you drove enough to reset the computer. I said, no charge? Nope That was nice of him. I drove 45 miles "up the hill" to Pollock Pines, to look at all of the pretty new snow. I came back, it took less than five minutes to do the pretest, and he told me, "green lights all the way." I took the car back to the smog shop and passed with flying colors. As I mentioned, I've always gotten great service here at Danny's. Thank you, Mike, for taking that extra step for me. i am very disappointed with the service i received at California smog. I brought my truck in for a…read moreroutine diesel inspection, and the technician refused to test it based on completely incorrect assumptions. He claimed that my downpipe, intercooler, and wastegate were aftermarket, even though all components are 100% factory stock. He insisted that these parts required CARB EO numbers, despite the fact that they are original ford equipment. the only modification on my exhaust is a 4-inch system after the catalytic converter, which is fully legal in California and requires no EO number. This is easy to verify by simply looking under the truck and comparing the larger aftermarket tail section to the stock unmodified 3.5 inch factory downpipe. The technician did not take the time to properly verify anything. he was dismissive, rushed, and unwilling to listen or provide clear information. Instead of performing an accurate visual inspection, he refused the test. To be sure i went to another certified star smog station the same day. The technician there immediately recognized all of my components as stock, knew the correct regulations and passed my truck with flying colors . This experience shows lack of training, knowledge and professionalism at this location. Costumers rely on smog shops to understand regulations and inspect vehicles accurately. Unfortunetly, that did not happen when I went to California Smog.
