Both of my sisters who are older than I am went here as well. This is a older school, but a good one. Hopefully, times have changed, as back then they did not have special programs for kids with ADD/ADHD and put everyone into the same category. The playground here is extremely old, that should be remodeled. They had really good teachers back in the days, ones that worked here for 20-30 years. My kindergarten teacher was Mrs Carrnot, or something like that. She was probably almost 60. My 1st grade teacher was Mrs Rice and my 5th was Mary Elm. She pasted away last year and worked at the school for probably 35 years. She was amazing. The lunch program here was really good. After I left and went to middle school, school lunch was a joke. Wow, I recall the blue milk tickets sold her at the book store for 5 cents. During the summer they have the walker school rummage sale, which is a cool event where locals sell goods on the school playground lot.

The issues I have fall in three main camps…read more 1- Communication! If you tell one staff member something, it doesn't mean they're going to write it down or share it with others. I spent so much time informing various staff about different things for my daughters care and would still get a call from the owner asking questions. At one point, surrounding the issue of why we were basically asked to leave, the owner Mary Lynn even told me that I should have called her back not her staff because as a childcare facility they do not have time to always be checking in with each other so if you talk to one staff member you need to follow up with that same person. But when I called during my workday her daughter was available and I spoke with her and she said she would relay that information to the rest of the staff. It is a huge red flag to me that they can't communicate, and I have examples of this over three or four instances. 2-Vaccine policies. To their credit, in their policies they are up front with the fact that, the owner specifically, does not agree with the vaccine schedule for children. The policies ask parents to be informed about vaccines, and they say if you choose to vaccinate that they have policies they ask you to follow. For example after regular vaccines your child cannot be at school for one whole day, for the flu vaccine they need to be out for a week. We knew this going into it, and I was OK with it because I can respect their stance however as a paying customer I expect them to respect my stance. About a mouth in my daughter had a small mark on her thigh, that was not bothering her was not infected or anything. I got a call in the middle of the day during my work to ask if my daughter had gotten a vaccine that I had not reported because of this mark. I was reminded to always be honest when she get vaccines and update the form. I said I know and that she is not due for vaccines until her one year appointment and that I would update at that time. Then when she did get her vaccines I made a second appointment to accommodate their policy, I informed three separate teachers that I made a separate appointment and my daughter was out for three days. I brought the filled out medical form on the day she returned. And I still got a call from the owner confirming the vaccines. Anytime she was acting tired, or when she had a blowout the owner said "this could be from her vaccines last week". It got very old very quickly. I'm sure some parents lie or don't turn in forms etc, but I never showed any signs of this yet I was still treated like a liar. I believe they do not want vaccinated children in their center and that they will find issues until you leave. 3. Meal plan. Their meal plan is very sad. Almost no protein, oatmeal twice a week at least for lunch and lots of jelly sandwiches. The other issue is they have a morning snack at 8:30 and lunch at 10:30. So if your child eats breakfast around say 7am- by 11am they've had three meals basically. The issue that caused us to leave is the owner believed our 1 yr old pooped too much. Mary thought milk was the issue- I wanted to time to explore, talk to a pediatrician because I didn't notice excess pooping when she was with us or with my our other childcare. We couldn't agree on a plan so we ended up leaving. Three or four days not being on the meal plan and eating so much my daughter's stools went back to her norm. I would not recommend this daycare based on my experience and though the teachers do seem great and the children are well cared for, my experience was less than positive.

We love Racine KinderCare! They have gone through several changes over the years but they have…read morealways been extremely helpful with any questions. They are very flexible and ensure we are kept aware of our children's progress or if there are issues with other children or with scheduling they are addressed right away. The meals are included as are lots of the art, crafts and activities. They have extra programs for reading, cooking, math, dance and lots more. The teachers, director and assistant director are always friendly, knowledge and really take the time to get to know our children. We feel Racine KinderCare is really setting up our children for success both socially and academically.

The past five months have been a nightmare for our family and our son culminating with us pulling…read morehim out of there this morning after threatening expulsion. He is 3 years old. It's a real shame to post this as the staff and teachers here are truly caring and knowledgeable. Since the change in directors a few months ago though our son has increasingly struggled without receiving the help he needed. He was branded as a problem child for not wanting to engage in activities all the time and for misbehaving. Again, he is 3 years old and when there are 20+ toddlers running around in a single room with just 2 teachers, I'm not sure what they expect. I've frequently seen other children pushing, biting, hitting, and engaging in the usual sort of behavior that young children engage in as they learn social norms. All of which is tolerated even though it is a safety issue. Our son was singled out though and it soon became apparent that the leadership was more concerned with documenting everything for purposes of covering themselves rather than coordinating with his pre-k teachers on ways to help him. We are now stuck in a very difficult position of having to separate our son from his friends and teachers. As a final slap in the face we were told that he could still visit for a week or so as long as someone was available to pick him up at any time. Now ask yourselves this question...why would anyone need daycare if they were already available to get him? We are reasonable people who love our son, and we can say without hesitation that the past several months at Growing Green put incredible stress on our son and family. Communication with parents is poor, and they will not hesitate to expel your child if he isn't able to conform easily. In short, research your options beforehand and don't make a decision based on a single discussion or tour. This decision can have a serious impact on your family as it has ours.

The teachers are highly qualified, hard working, and most do a great job communicating with parents --classroom newsletters, emails when needed, a schoolwide weekly newsletter. The curriculum seems good; my son has learned a lot. There's opportunity to go ahead if a challenge is needed (like taking a higher math level). My son has had small class sizes every year except one. Students have many arts options. In addition to regular art and music, the older grades can participate in choir, orchestra, band, or school play and these teachers do an excellent job. Sometimes there are after-school clubs offered, like Pokemon club or learning another language. The PTA (it's called Parent Faculty Council here) does a fantastic job and puts on fun events for the kids, pays for classroom field trips and school wide activities during the school day as well as hosting optional evening events (arts showcase, movie night, roller skating, trunk or treat, etc.) The PFC has a main fundraiser in the fall and your child (meaning you) will be asked to participate. It's for a good cause but if you hate fundraising, maybe just donate to it yourself. I feel that this school, like most schools in this country, could use more funding and the staff higher salaries -- but that's not specific to Orchard Lane. Our family hasn't needed to use more formalized plans or additional services for academic or behavior issues but I know they are available. The teachers have worked with us informally on getting behavior where it needs to be (trouble sitting still, overly talkative, blurting out answers and so on). I think there are plans in the future to add an outdoor/nature classroom and to update the playground. These may be expensive projects so I have no idea of a timeline -- but something to look forward to.

There are lots of different activities and after school events filled with parent and student volunteers. The school had two nice playgrounds and a good sized play area. We can't say enough about the school.
