I was staffed at Neeskara school as a paraprofessional for Mrs. Staszewski(the k5-2nd deaf/HOA…read moreteacher) and I couldn't believe how blatantly racist she was towards the black staff members but also toward our black students at Neeskara. I literally watched her gossip daily with Ms. Jessica( the speech therapist) about black parents and giving her unnecessary ignorant opinions about the parents in front of the students ( I guess because they have hearing issues and they were young it's no big deal), she even discussed a black student home situation with other students in the class (completely inappropriate) asking him does he have a bed and does he eat. Utter nonsense. I'm shocked that we still have teachers like these working with our black babies everyday when MPS is around 60% if not more-black students. I was very disappointed in the lack of resources available to the students at Neeskara. I had a K5 student go the whole day without a coat in the winter time and no one thought to check with our school social worker to find him appropriate clothing for the winter until I got a hold of the social worker at the END of my shift to take care of that. I have seen teachers berate students of 5$ fees for snack boxes on good behavior trips when things like that should be free knowing that majority of MPS students live in poverty. As far as education, to be blunt most of the kids aren't learning anything we had students who slept most of the day or ran the halls throughout the day and just honestly didn't even understand anything the teachers were saying. It's down right pitiful that there wasn't one mention of black history in ANY class room during black history month nor was there a black history program that discussed black history even though mostly all the students are black... what an insult! Once I saw that I knew I wasn't coming back. But on the brighter side there were some hidden gems who I think had good relationships with the students and the students respected them a lot like Mr. Jackson, Dr. Pugh and Mrs Waszak and Mrs. Dressikie and honestly most of the other paraprofessionals. I wouldn't recommend this school to a black parent for their black child unless they were deaf/HOA. I can admit they have pretty good resources that other MPS schools don't have in regards to that.
