General Details I am currently attending this school in…read more2024. The teachers are passionate about your education and the majority of the counselors are trustworthy. The school however does have a bit of a workload, ESPECIALLY for Honors/AP classes. The school food is much better than middle school or elementary school but definitely still has its faults. As long as you aren't absent for anything crucial, pay attention, and ASK FOR HELP when you need it, you will understand your courses. AP Human Geography is an especially tough course because of its workload and the fact that your tests and FRQs are definitely challenging. But there isn't anything to seriously stress over. Student Life 90% of the students are chilled and just want to go about their life, so you won't have to worry about fights or conflicts unless they're clearly being instigated. Vending machines have quality food and sometimes you can even get two products when only paying for one. Navigation around the school also isn't bad at all, the elevators are handicap-only access but you have 5 minute passing periods and stairwells all not too far from each other. I will be honest though that there is an issue with students and vaping, but it is not widespread and it will not be forced on you. The #1 goal of the staff at Lakes is to make YOU feel like you belong and can be on the path to the career you want. There are after school events and clubs for everyone's tastes. There are also emails sent out every Monday for your missing assignments to you and your parents and emails of your grades on every Thursday to the same people. There are also plenty of original staff members still here or staff you'll see mentioned in other reviews, such as Mr. Rowells and Mr. Blevins. These teachers are absolutely top tier. If you're looking into anything that has to do with theater/theatre, this school has one of the most advanced set building thinga ma jiggers out of high schools in the state, plus the teacher ( Mr. Esquivel ) is a great person that is especially easy to get along with. Lengthy review, but its everything you need to know.

The past five months have been a nightmare for our family and our son culminating with us pulling…read morehim out of there this morning after threatening expulsion. He is 3 years old. It's a real shame to post this as the staff and teachers here are truly caring and knowledgeable. Since the change in directors a few months ago though our son has increasingly struggled without receiving the help he needed. He was branded as a problem child for not wanting to engage in activities all the time and for misbehaving. Again, he is 3 years old and when there are 20+ toddlers running around in a single room with just 2 teachers, I'm not sure what they expect. I've frequently seen other children pushing, biting, hitting, and engaging in the usual sort of behavior that young children engage in as they learn social norms. All of which is tolerated even though it is a safety issue. Our son was singled out though and it soon became apparent that the leadership was more concerned with documenting everything for purposes of covering themselves rather than coordinating with his pre-k teachers on ways to help him. We are now stuck in a very difficult position of having to separate our son from his friends and teachers. As a final slap in the face we were told that he could still visit for a week or so as long as someone was available to pick him up at any time. Now ask yourselves this question...why would anyone need daycare if they were already available to get him? We are reasonable people who love our son, and we can say without hesitation that the past several months at Growing Green put incredible stress on our son and family. Communication with parents is poor, and they will not hesitate to expel your child if he isn't able to conform easily. In short, research your options beforehand and don't make a decision based on a single discussion or tour. This decision can have a serious impact on your family as it has ours.

It was hot and humid this day so the shop was pretty hot but that is what was expected. The owner and the other glass maker were running the workshop. The did a great job of explaining the entire process, the equipment , and more ipmortantntly safety. It was easy to follow but rest assured, they will remind you about everything they reviewed. As we sat at the table, their were exampples of the products we can make. 3 od 4 selected a paper weight and 1 wanted to make a gazing ball. The forst thing we did as a group was pick colors that goes into the glass. Then we went one by one and and the glass makers were very thorough on the the process and helped along the way. There were times, we just handled the process. Hewas very good on safety and keeping an eye on us. The glass get as hot as lava. After you are done, they put in in an area to set.
