If you're looking for a fun road trip, this will be the one!! When we arrived they had us all wait in the car while processing our cards for entry. We were greeted with a big smile and had the option to purchase food to feed the animals. When we drove in it took about a soils 5-8 min before we saw any animals. We were finally approached by donkeys and boy those donkeys don't play around with their food. While driving beware of all the potholes and bumpy roads. Highlight of the wilderness area was the camels robbing us blind and yanking the cups out of our hands. So make sure to hold on tight. read more

Oh my goodness this is my new favorite place!!!!! Went for the first time ever and loved every second of it. The girl at the front was so friendly and warm. The zoo was packed with many animals in wide open spaces. It was so nice seeing the plethora of donkeys, llamas, camels, bison, buffalo, horses, zebras, and ostrich. Don't let the ostrich in your car though- they are vicious animals. But everyone else is so cute! Beware - one of the donkeys will kick every other animal (including the 9 foot llama) just to get the food. So there's that. But the ride was literally amazing. Why on earth would anyone rate this low? I have been here several times and it's always been a delight. You get to see the animals in their natural environment. One time we had a group of camels follow us down the hill. Warning: hold tight to the cups of food! Some of the animals are very determined little things and they WILL try to grab the cup from your hands. But being here is adventurous and fun. I guess if your maybe not an animal lover or don't want to be cooped up in the car it maybe not for you. It DOES take awhile to see it all and drive through. I'd say a couple of hours. It's worth it though which is why I came back several times. But plan ahead and know you will be in your vehicle awhile. You will see all kinds of animals strutting around. Their website boasts a wide variety of animals, and when I called they said it would be about an hour or 45 min drive through. Once we arrived it's mostly donkeys the whole trip and it was a miserable 2 hour traffic jam. Will not be back or recommend. read more

The kids were bored, antsy, and ready to get home so I decided to stop here. It's like fossil rim in Glen Rose. Some of the animals were hiding because it was hot. I don't blame them. We were here about 20 years ago and it was a great experience. Not so much today. It's obvious they are not putting any money back into the business. Facility with the gift shop is very rundown. Bathrooms were awful and anything for sale there had been there for quite some time. Roadways were in dire need of repair. Although it was neat to see some of the animals still come up the vehicles, unless they put some money into the place, I wouldn't recommend stopping here. Also, not a one of the rides, go carts, etc. were working. Said it was due to a storm, but it looked like they hadn't run for quite awhile. So sad because this could be an awesome place!! read more

We have been going to Arbuckle Wilderness for years with the family. I also went when I was a teenager which was over 20 years ago. We always enjoy our visits. Today was a little surprised of how things seemed to have changed a little bit. When we arrived we purchased our tickets in the gift shop and decided to use the restroom before driving through the park. The men's restroom only half of the urinals were working. What I was told by my wife the woman's restroom was also in poor shape. Seems like the property really needs some work done on it to get it back to it's better years. Seems like their animal population has changed also. We didn't see the rhinos or giraffes or wolves. But we did have plenty of animals that came to our vehicle camels, donkeys, geese, llamas, alpacas, emus, ostrich, bison, cows, yaks, long horns, horses, deer, and more. These animals were majestic and beautiful to see in person. I really hope that management or owners can work on some of the issues but other then that I would return for sure and keep the family tradition going. Tip if you plan on visiting the park in the summertime try to get there early as possible. The animals will be out but the hotter the day gets the less interaction the animals will be and will hide under the tree line. read more

First visit for me and I can see how it was once likely a spectacular place. I read the mixed reviews and decided to take a gamble. I feel that in its current state it is overpriced. We still laughed and had a good time feeding the animals but do not feel as though it was worth what we paid to get in. Lots of donkey's, we even saw a couple of little babies. Ostrich was probably a fav for us just seeing how large they actually are. Our Toyota Highlander did fine on the roads but I could see a car having some issues. Visiting the area for a week and wanted to take the kids somewhere they would enjoy. When I looked it up, I was disappointed that they charge per person and not per car load. After spending nearly 2 hours driving through, I don't mind the price at all. There were more animals than I thought there'd be. Way more! My kids really enjoyed themselves and so did I. Well worth the price. The roads aren't in the best condition so drive very slow. The speed limit of 5mph is even a bit much for some of those roads. We've been to other drive thru zoos and this one is lacking. Roads need help as there were lots of potholes and bumps. Some areas shut down with overgrown trees and brush. Saw a description calling it a "premier" wilderness spot... So, drove in, first impression was, "is this even open? Looks abandoned." Ramshackle, empty parking lot. Not inviting at all. We did see another car go by so we followed it, determined it was open and entered the park. Roads - God awful. Hope you are in a big truck with fat tires because you are likely to break an axle in here otherwise. Condition - squiffy. Trash along the path from people losing or throwing out the food cups, over grown and empty enclosures. Overall feeling is just one of abandonment. Animals - saw quite a few varieties. Aside from the usual ostrich, varied bovine species, llama and roaming mini-donkeys there was one lonely looking white tiger and one rhino. Bizarre lack of birds. Saw some water fowl but the trees were oddly lacking in birds. Is it worth it? Maybe once but nothing I'd do on a repeat basis. They really need to step up their tending to the grounds and see if they can make the entry a little less like a haunted theme park. read more

AVOID THIS ZOO! We were trying to get out of the city and do a social distance activity, and we did accomplish this, but the park is extremely run down. First, do not even think about going if you dont have a truck or SUV...if you go in a car, you will lose it in a pothole...the driving path is horrendous. Next, the condition of the park is worn down and unkempt to the point of concern for the quality of life for some animals. For example, they have a rare white tiger in a rusted, super small, overgrown enclosure (see pics) next they had one giraffe in a small rusted enclosure...the signs are wooden, cracked, faded and hard to read. Next the variety of animals is minimum...lots of llamas, donkeys, cows, buffalo, and camels...some animals did not look healthy but I am not a vet. It cost us $57 for two adults and one child with three cups of food. Due to the worn out condition and how some animals are kept, I strongly encourage you to avoid this place. So as an animal lover I was super excited to come and visit this outdoor zoo. It's always heartbreaking to go to a regular zoo and see the animals miss treated and locked in cages. Unfortunately our experience was not that great here these poor animals are sick under fed and not taken care of. One of the animals we saw standing on the road for quite some time as we drove up to it thinking it was waiting for us it was just urinating on itself and salivating out of its mouth look like it was ready to fall over. The roads are not maintained so be careful even my husband was a good driver almost got stuck and we were in a truck. It was fun feeding the animals they do seem very hungry so I would suggest doubling whatever the lady offers you as the largest amount of buying there we still ran out halfway through the trip. It's pretty and the animals probably would love for you to stop by and feed them they are hungry but the owners could really spend some money taken care of this place and the animals. read more

Not worth it. It might be better in cooler weather but definitely miserable in the heat. My car almost Overheated several times. Animals are too hot to eat. Some would Stand by the cars but looked miserable. We had one excited ostrich and a few cows let us feed them. Most of the trip involved idling in your car for 20-30 min between each tiny group of donkeys/llamas/cows. It was super crowded. So loooooong line of cars and we each had to wait for the car ahead of each to try to feed the poor animal. Took us over 2 hours and maybe 15 min was actually feeding the animals. We ended up cutting around the crowd to just get out of there otherwise it probably would've been another hour or 2. There were two adults in my car. We bought 3 cups and used 1 1/2 cups. read more

Wanted to go to Fossil Rim but they were sold out so fell back on this place. Not many animals and the animals that were there looked neglected. If you don't have an SUV beware of dilapidated roads! Mostly donkeys cows and ostriches. The place is clearly not well maintained. Probably needs to be shut down and animals rescued. Giraffe looked like he had a terrible infection in one eye but I am not a vet! Animals looked sad. Nothing like Fossil Rim. Not even a close substitute. 6 goats, some donkey, a few deer, one sad tiger, and a ticked off rhino. This place was horrible and it seemed to be in poor condition. The fencing was rusted and falling apart in places. There seemed to be "junk" lying around and in some of the enclosures. There weren't very many animals to see. They tried to beef it up a bit by adding some cows, bulls, and horses but those are not animals you come to an adventure park to see. I can see more animals in my neighborhood, we at least have coyotes and bobcats there. I have been here a couple of times years ago and it was so wonderful. I have been trying to convince my husband to go and telling him how great it would be and finally he agreed to go and....great big disappointment. So if you have not traveled to Davis Oklahoma and ventured through the Arbuckle wilderness safari ..it's is a MUST, just make sure you get a couple bags of feed...We got 2 which makes for 10 cups of feed for $10.00, they go through it fast so pace yourself. Also i was in a Nissan Altima and it sits pretty low to the gorund so I did manage to get around the pot holes and off roading adventures but best in a higher vehicle ...the roads are kinda bad but in a weird way that makes it feel more exciting and safari like, my poor car be ready for a cat detail after your track through the wilderness as they drool all over your vehicle abd feed gets everywhere!!! Try to overlook the negative reviews. It's a unique experience that is hard to find elsewhere, and one that my family enjoyed today very much. Yes, there are a lot of donkeys and llamas - but for most people, this isn't a regular occurrence. Throw in the fact that we also fed a giraffe, a bison, an ostrich and some other weirdly horned animals, and you have a grand ol' time on your hands. Plus we saw a white tiger, rhino & hyena. It was great. We bought three cups of food and had to ration a bit at the end. For reference - our group was 4 adults and a 2.5 year old (who LOVED it - but I wouldn't go much younger than that). The restrooms were very run down - which one would attribute to lack of income for the business. But they were operational and didn't lessen the amount of fun we had in any way. This was the 4th time I've brought the family on a "day trip" from Dallas as our youngest was eager to experience what his older siblings talked about. The last time we were here, was 6 years ago with my then, 7 and 8 years olds and a 9 year old niece. The previous trips were very entertaining, I have a pickup truck so we set up our lawn chairs in the back of the bed and as the wife drove, we sat in the back feeding the animals. It was fun for me and lots of fun for the kids with all the different types of animals. This past weekend, the parking lot was empty, we went inside to pay for the 5 of us and it was about $95. What caught my eye was the inside of the store was empty. They use to have animals (the monster python) on display and a huge assortment of "stuff" to buy. We also enjoy ourselves in previous trips to their mini-amusement park rides, go carts etc which was "Closed". Everything is empty inside the store which makes it seem as if they are barely staying afloat. The other thing that caught my mind was that in previous trips, they had bill-boards on I-35 as you headed north.. There are no signs promoting the spot so that made sense, it's really bad now. Once we drove into the animal reserve, it was even more disappointing, they no longer have lots of the animals they advertise and many of the large cages are empty. I vividly recall in previous trips, that you would immediately be inundated with lots of animals of all types when you drove in and as you progressed. This trip, the reserve is now inundated with donkey's, lot of donkey's... and much less of any exotic animals from previous times. For me to have gone 3 times previously and the "fun we had" to now write this review is a fact of how bad things have gone at this place. Would I go back, no, not at all. It truly was disappointing with how run-down the entire operation is. Many of the animals are not there. If you like donkey's, you will see 30-50 donkeys as the main animal that will walk up to your car. read more

We visited Memorial Day weekend and it was very disappointing. The area is beautiful but the park is so run down. It really needs some tender loving care. We saw lots of donkeys and several other animals, Not as many as I expected. None of the advertised activities were open. No petting zoo, no reptile exhibit, no snack bar, no fossil dig, no pony rides, no hayride, no go-carts. Cost us over $100 and a2 hour drive. Definitely not worth it. This is a difficult review. We had an excellent time with the drive thru area. We fed some amazing animals including donkeys, camels, llamas, bison, zebras and giraffes. The road is HORRIBLE. We used 4 wheel drive on our Jeep. If you have a low clearance vehicle it would be difficult to navigate the park. Great tip: don't waste all your food on the animals in the beginning. The walk thru area is not worth the time. It is run down and there is nothing open in the back. They told us there was a bad flood that ruined a lot of that area and they do not plan to reopen the rides or attractions in the back. We are giving it 4 stars for the experience, but because of the poor upkeep we are tempted to give it 3 stars. My family and I went to Arbuckle Wilderness. They have a variety of animals, and it's really fun activity to do. Use the bathroom before you go pay for your ticket. If so, you won't have to make a U-Turn, use the bathroom, and get back in line. Also, save some of your food or get more food because there are giraffes at the end, and if you don't save or get more food, you won't be able to feed the animals including the giraffes at the end. read more
